Power(s): Supernatural eyes (see Equipment)
Maye has a firey personality and is passionate in everything she does. However she has a very low tolerance for pain and is easily tortured into obedience. New Dawn used this weakness to force her into joining them. She's easily confused and completely clueless when it comes to New Dawn's ranking system and procedures. She's not entirely sure what she's getting into and isn't sure if she wants to know. If she had another option than death or New Dawn she would take it in an instant.
Her power is in her eyes allowing her to see different layers of the world.
Layer 1: Sharper Human Vision (this includes seeing in the dark)
Layer 2: Human Aura's
Layer 3: X-ray vision
Layer 4: Heat vision
The limitations are that she can only see one way at a time but she can quickly switch them with a thought. When she sees a human's aura she can see where they've been for at least a few days after they've been there, kind of like a left over mist. Aura's also fluctuate with emotions and personalities allowing Maye to basically see the person's soul. X-Ray vision varies depending on how strong she wants it to be and heat vision is exactly what it says. Her fifth layer apears black when she normally uses it and she has yet to figure out what it shows her.
She grew up with her mother and father who loved her dearly, as she was their only daughter. She had an older brother but he went missing when she was 10, he was barely 13. Her family hasn't seen him since. After that her normal loving family turned into a nightmare. Her parents grew distant because of the loss of their son. She began to see things, flashes of the different Layers, when she told her parents they thought she was going crazy. She would go blind some days, see everyone as blobs of colors with mist trailing them another day, and the next day she would be walking into invisible walls. Things started looking up when Maye had figured out how to control her eyes flipping between the different visions and fully understanding their functions. One day New Dawn had come to thier city and quickly took over forcing all the inhabitants to join, die, or be forced into slavery. Maye chose slavery but when New Dawn found out about her powers they forced her to join the groups used in fighting against the Sun Defenders, her power being very valuble for tracking the rebels and locating hideouts. Currently she is wandering the halls of Maligna lost and confused.
Maye could see Hailom clentch his teeth and stare Yuta down, meanwhile Yuta was still acting friendly, but it wasn't realy friendly it was more like he was toying with Hailom. Maybe he was trying to make Hailom break his emotionless state and provoke him? "Maye Flynn." She adds feeling this was a situation where using her last name would be appropriate.
May Flower and Hailstorm? what are these? Pet names? she wonders begining to understand Yuta's athority over Hailom expecially after he pushes him over like nothing. Hailom's aura tells her everything there is to know, 'don't trust Yuta.' the hairs on the back of her neck rise when he touches her hair, she pulls back. "No thank you, I'm perfectly fine where I am."
Maye decided it was time for her to stop being such a whimp, she had to help Hailom he seemed to be the only one on her side. "I don't think anyone here needs a lesson. So leave us alone." Maye aims at Yuta hoping he would stop bothering them and leave. She knows it's stupid but she want to believe that maybe Yuta isn't as bad as he looks.
Mayes heart beat picked up and she could see Yuta's sickening purple aura reaching toward her. She now realized she had done something horribly wrong but wasn't entirely sure what. Maye lets out a slight whimper as he gets closer. She didn't like the sound of this lesson but she had no way to fight back, she may have gotten him to leave Hailom alone but now he was going to hurt her.
Maye jumps seeing the needle stab into the wall right next to her head. "Hailom!" she yelps realizing it missed her but two of the needles hit him and were stuck in his sholder. If she had been hit it would have been like getting shot she realizes looking at the wall quickly again. Hailom must be in so much pain! she panics blaming it all on herself. "Why did you take that?" she mutters to Hailom.
Yuta was twisted, sick and twisted Maye decides seeing his reaction to Hailom's injury. She wanted him to leave, she wanted to hurt him, but she couldn't do anything. Maye wanted to talk back at him again since it was the only thing she could do but then Hailom would get hurt and she didn't want that. There had to be something her eyes could do to help she switched to layer 5, nothing still just blackness, switching back to normal vision she focuses on Yuta's movements, she could probably dodge a needle or two if she saw them coming first, but that was a stupid foolish idea and she decided not to risk it, that last thing she needed was having Yuta hurt Hailom even more. "Leave him alone please." she mutters barely audible.
Waiting till Yuta was out of hearing range, Maye didn't want to give that sadstic man more pleasure, she knelt down next to Hailom and watched him carefully seeing that he still had a pulse and wasn't dead. His eyes were much more peaceful when they were closed he might seem cute even. "Hailom? Can you hear me?" She says realy close to his ear. He had made a really loud noise when he hit the wall, maybe it was a snap she panics perhaps he broke his neck! And now he's dead! she jumps to conclusions not hearing an instant responce.
She sits there next to Hailom unsure of what she should do, after what seemed like hours he moved. His eyes opened and he looked at her, his eyes were that same piercing red as before still full of hatred. "You're alive!" Maye smiles wondering what she could have possibly done if he were dead. She sees the weakness in his aura, "Hey you shouldn't be moving so suddenly." She looks at him worried. "I can tell you're in pain you don't have to hide it." she says realizing that his aura was letting off way more pain than he was showing.
Maye didn't like how Hailom was ignoreing his pain and acting like he was dead and emotionless. She kept switching back to his aura which was showing almost every inch of his body was in pain. Maye whimpers in shock seeing him yank the needles from his shoulder. "There has to be something you'll let me do to help you." Maye begs wanting to stop his sad looking attempts of trying to get up.
Maye noticed Hailom was acting strange for a moment the red in his aura faded into another color with a lighter pink tint, but it quickly reverted to the red. She decided that he wasn't going to ask for help, but she didn't want to hurt him any more and moving him to the bed might do just that. She goes to the bed and grabs the pillow instead, "I'm going to move you a bit off the wall so you're supported by the pillow and you're not as uncomfortable, I don't want to move you yet incase it hurts you more, okay?" She asks not sure if he even wanted her touching him.
Maye takes that as a yes and slowly holds his good shoulder as she leans him forward a few inches and slips the pillow behind him. She slowly lowers him on to the pillow monitering his aura for any sudden jumps of pain. When he's settled on the pillow she backs up a little. "Better?" she asks trying to make eye contact. "I think we should clean up your wound too or at least stop the bleeding." She suggests looking over to the rags and bottles from earlier.
Maye wasn't getting the responces she wanted out of him, she wasn't entirely sure if he might have hit his head so hard that he didn't think he needed medical attention, or he was to stubborn to ask for help. She scoots over next to him and leans her head up against the wall. She could leave him there to suffer in silence, all alone and totally in pain, but she didn't have anywhere to go. She remembered someone was going to come find her eventually in order to get her situated here in Maligna, but she never wanted them to come and take her away. Hailom, though ridiculously emotionless and hateful was trustworthy and protective. "Do you want me to leave?" She asks now thinking his reasons for ignoring her worry and desire to help was that he didn't want her to be there.
"Okay I'll just sit here and wait then." Maye smiles knowing she was wanted. It was funny to think how childlike he was, refusing to get help, not speaking, not wanting to show weakness. Maybe that's why Yuta treated him like such a weaker childish toy, she wipes that idea right out of her mind recollecting the fact that Yuta was insane and sadistic. Maye just quietly watches his aura ebb and flow as he breaths with occational dissruptions in the steady flow when he felt intense pain. She winced a few times seeing the violent spikes in his aura where the pain was most evident.
"Okay!" Maye got up and grabbed the few bottles from earlier when he was helping her. She grabbed some of the rags too just in case and knelt down infront of him placing the tools gentally on the ground. She looks up at his face remembering there was that horrible bloddy smear of the same marking on his forehead. "Are any of these bottles water?" She asks wanting to clean the blood off his face first, before dealing with the hard stuff like bandaging his shoulder.
Maye takes the larger bottle and pours some water on the cloth, careful not to spill. Suddenly she hears the door close and she whips her head around instantly switching to X-Ray Vision but not seeing anyone behind the door. Disreguarding it as a breeze she turns her attention back to Hailom to find he had taken his shirt off. The two bloody spots were very easy to see they looked almost like bullet wounds only the bullet hadn't gone all the way through. She goes back to her work and cautiously goes to wipe the marking off his face. "What does this marking mean?" She asks realizing now that it must be significant.
Maye pondered what he said, everything made sense now, Yuta must have been one of his cruel masters. And that explains the tiny room, few belongings, and self reliance. She thought about how she would probably have that mark too if they hadn't forcefully taken her away from her home and dropped her off here to be a student. "Well the bloods off your face now, How should I deal with your shoulder?" she asks a little bit scared of tackling this injury.
Maye nods and carefully pours a little bit of it onto the holes. She remembers the pain from her wrist when he sterilized it, but he was probably in a lot more pain already. She quickly puts a rag over the wounds to keep the liqud from runing down his chest. "Is that okay?" She says not wanting to be putting too much pressure on the holes causing him further pain.
Maye takes the next one and pours it carefully on his wounds again, patching it up with the cloth. She takes the rest of the cloth and starts to figure out the right way to wrap up the awkwardly positioned shoulder wound. Holdng up the cloth just an inch away from his body she trys to figure out where the bandages would best protect the wounds while staying in place. she desides to put a patch over the two holes and then hang a long stripover his shoulder to tighten the strip holding the patch in place she wraps another longer strip around his chest. She awkwardly reaches around him in a hug like manner to get the strip in the right position. Tightening it all up it seemed like the patch would stay in place and he would be okay! "There all done!" Maye smiles proud of her work even though it still looked like I pretty sloppy job of bandageing.
Hailom showed minimal thanks, but she kind of expected it. She had figured out that he wasn't going to show any emotions, negative or positive. Something must of caused it but Maye didn't even want to know what would have caused Hailom to hate everyone. What concerned her the most was the thought that new dawn may have caused him to hate everyone. She knew she wasn't going to be a slave, the man she came with expected great things from her, he talked about her becoming a Seeker and maybe, if she trained enough she would be a Expo. She didn't know what these possitions meant and she didn't ask the man what they were for fear of getting hurt again. She picks at her bandaged wrist nervously, "Now that you're all fixed up, should I leave?" Maye asks thinking that her job was done here. She didn't want leave, Hailom was hospitable and she had no where else to go at least until she was hunted down.
Maye looked surprised at his sudden question, “Well the answer is simple really, I chose to live.” She sighs. “My city was invaded and a man from New Dawn caught me using my powers so he gave me the choice of joining or being killed right there. There wasn’t anything I could do.” Maye saddens looking at the concrete floor, she hadn’t realized how close to death she was earlier. That man would have killed her had she refused, of that she had no doubt.
She looked back up at Hailom, “I don’t want to be here.” Her eyes started tearing up, “I just want to go home.” She cries realizing she wasn’t ever going home, and she would never see her parents again. It was like her brother’s disappearance all over again, only this time it was her who disappeared.
Maye sat near Hailom curling her legs up and crying into her sleeve. Hailom wasn't helping, his horrible emotionless behaviour was scaring her, she didn't want to end up like him. She kept thinking about her parents and how they were probably slaves now and being hurt by Yuta's friends and partners. She wanted to be with them, at least they would be going through this together, but she was all alone. All she had was Hailom and her eyes to guide her, Hailom didn't even know about them yet. Through sniffles she desides that's an important thing for him to know, "My eyes are special." she manages to say, "I can see things that normal people can't, just thought I'd let you know." she wipes the tears from her eyes calming down a bit.
"Hunter of Hope?" Maye asks unsure of what he was talking about. She could see things and find hidden secrets, but a hunter of hope was a little out of her reach, at least in her mind. What hope was she hunting for? the hope of escaping New Dawn? the hope of restoring the world to peace? These were all options way out of her reach. And how could she hunt? sure she could probably see enemies from miles away and find hidden items but it's not like she could actually find something of importance.
Maye wasn't satisfied with his answer, he never said enough to answer her questions. Her head was now buzzing with interpertations of a 'hunter of hope' from a powerful warrior fighting for hope to a pathetic loser like her slowly crawling toward a final shard of hope. "Come on, tell me what you meant or I'll leave right now." She threatens to see if that will break through his emotional shield and get her a decent answer. However she felt bad using threats against him because it made her feel like she was betraying him.
"Wait?" Maye pauses a bit shocked, "They exist?!" She had heard the stories about them but they were so hushed in her city that people thought of them as a childrens tale, or super hero you tell your kids about at night. She knew exactly who they were, a rebel group fighting against New Dawn, they were secretive and very selective about members. If they were real she could find them with her eyes, without a doubt, maybe that's why the man forced her to join, because she could find them and... kill them? New Dawn was going to use her to track them down and then kill them she realized. That's why she was spared, to point in the direction of the rebels. She didn't want that though, she wanted to escape if anything she'd rather run away to get help from the Sun defenders.
He didn't say anything but he could see it in his eyes and aura, he wanted to escape more than she did. Run off to the Sun Defenders and help them crush New Dawn. "Let's run away! Security can't be that tight and even if it is I can see when people are nearby. You know this place, there has to be someway out." Maye starts out talking loudly but hushes her voice realizing people could be listening. She wanted the challange of running away and searching for the Sun Defenders. It sounded immpossible but the idea of searching for them made her feel like she would be going on an adventure like one out of a fantasy book.
