Introduction
The world ended on July 24 1999. World War Three lasted exactly 12 hours and 13 minutes. In that time there were over 400 conventional military battles on land, at sea, and in the air. Then it ended with a full scale nuclear exchange between The United States and the Soviet Union and there allies. It is estimated ¾ of the worlds population died in those 12 hours and 13 minutes. No one knows who started the Last War as it is called, but it doesn’t really matter because in the end everyone lost. Humans had proved them selves able to adapt and survive in almost any environment throughout there entire history. So when the last of the explosions slowly rumbled away, and the last of the Nuclear winter faded away the survivors crawled out of there bunkers and hideaways. What awaited them was a world of unimaginable hell.
Operation A.W.G.R.:
After War Government Revival
In the early 70s the United states government began to prepare to for a Atomic holocaust. So they started the construction of huge underground facilities which they called Redoubts, secret preholocaust military installations. With large stores of weapons, supplies, vehicles, and other goods there were meant to restart the government after a nuclear war. The U.S. government underestimated the destruction not just to civilian targets, but to there own organization as well. So after 25 years of nuclear winter most of the personal located in these installations were either dead, unwilling or unable to leave, or had never made it to the Redoubt in the first place.
( o.k. I know that it sounds to much like fallout, but how else am I suppose to get fairly large amounts of military grade hardware into a post atomic war wasteland? I would also like to point out that I want this RP to be very different from Fallout at least in story line if not setting.)
Post War Civilization:
In the year 2199, one hundred years after the Nuclear war humanity has some what rebuilt itself. There are no nations anymore, but there are many city-states. The largest ones have populations of around 1500, but most are in the 200 to 600 range. There are however many organizations that have many members across many different city-states. There are also different types of governments for these city-states. A few democracies and republics, with a few religion and monarchy controlled cities as well as a great many simple dictatorships. These city-states often control the surrounding country side as well as there city, and they usually do this with private armies called militias which enforce the will of the local ruler or at least until he is overthrown.
Technology Level:
The range of technology is different from area to area. With the most common weapons being black powder weapons, with a sprinkling of modern firearms and military vehicles added into the mix. Most places depend on fire, and muscle for there energy needs. Some places do have access to more advanced types of energy production. As time has passed by it has become harder and harder to find pre war weapons and tech as such the world is reverting to more primitive forms of technologies.
Fractions:
City States- Small (by pre war standards) cities that are across the former United states of America. They are at varying degrees of power and will often fight with each other for land, resources, of ideological reasons.
Raiders- Also know as outlaws, bandits, and cutthroats they are roaming groups of nomads who will kill and slaughter anyone for anything. They can be found in groups as small as ten or as large as one hundred. Do not often attack cities, but will kill anybody found out in the Deathlands.
Hammer Foundation- A large group of well organized people found in many cities and other groups. Originally were known as the Hammer Corporation before the Last War. They were a weapons developer and manufacturer. Located mainly out of Georgia they hold influence throughout former America. They are regarded with mistrust and suspicion by many people because no one other than there members really know what they do or how they manage to acquire there large amounts of wealth. What they are really dedicated to is discovering how the Nuclear war came about, many within there ranks believe that an outside influence was the cause of the Last War. As such they pay very good for any pre war tech or information that they can get there hands on.
Redoubt Personal:
The decedents of the original military and government personnel of the few Redoubts with surviving people left in them. They are some of the most advanced people in the Deathlands, but they do not often leave there underground bunkers for fear of the out side world. Although some do trade with nearby settlements.
Mercenary Company’s- Large groups of well armed and experienced fighting men that work for the highest bidder in times of war, and in times of peace (Basically when no nearby cities are fighting) they work as security guards for trade caravans.
Mutants- Many mutants roam the Deathlands they are the decedents of wiled animals and human beings. They come in many shapes and sizes. All of them are some what better that there ancestors in some way, but all are physically deformed as well. Normal humans (those with less radiation, so it doesn’t cause physical deformities as almost all humans have some degree of radiation poising) will kill or try to kill any Muties as there called on sight. Especially if they are of human origin.
Cults- Many cults sprang up after the atomic war. Some of them were brand new while others went back before the apocalypse. There are many different cults with many different beliefs and views. Some are friendly and some are hostile.
(All of the above fractions are playable and if you would like to make your own that would be great just post the idea here or PM it to me.)
Places:
Deathlands- the most commonly used name fore the former United States of America and nearby counties.
East Coast- The eastern coast of the former United States. It was heavily bombed during the last war and as such has many Hellzones. Many mutants live in the area and much wealth of pre-war tech can be found there, but it is extremely dangerous.
Mid U.S.- The entire middle part of the United states includes everything between the East and West Coast. Home to most of the surviving population and suffers from fierce Chem Storms.
West Coast- The western coast of the former U.S has some Hellzones, but a sizable population as well. Many new islands of the coast of former California due to earthquakes and tidal waves.
Natural Hazards- Other than radiation, mutant animals, and hostile locals, you will also have to deal with unnatural conditions due to the atomic holocaust.
Hellzones- Areas that suffered the worst of the bombings in the Last War. They still have lethally high levels of radiation and are extremely dangerous to enter. However there are many pre war cities that lay in ruins within them and they may hold highly valuable items.
Chem Storms- Due to the high levels of pollutants and radioactive dust in the atmosphere, seemingly innocent thunderstorms can be more deadly than they first seem. There acid rain can strip the flesh from a human within minutes. Should one of these storms come upon you, you should find cover as soon as possible.
(This RP would take place in the year 2199 which is exactly 100 years after the atomic Armageddon. Most of characters have been hired by the mysterious Hammer Foundation to head into the ruins of Chicago to recover a pre-war item of interest to them. Not all of the characters have to start out on this job but I would like most of them to.)

ViceVersus wrote:The title is very intriguing, and so is the tagline! The body of the introduction itself, however, unwinds a little towards the end, loosening what would have otherwise been a very tight package. Your first paragraphs work really well just listing straight facts. This is World War 3, after all. I expect to hear numbers listed of the dead and casualties, listed with a straight textbook emotionlessness. You can play off that a bit more, give us images of waitron streets and piles and piles of bodies. I was down with that, but then as the straight fact-listing went on you lost me. The reason that your synopsis was so interesting is because it personalized things. It said "you" and it made me stop, consider for a moment what it would be like to live in this reality. The rest of the introduction lost me because it suddenly no longer seemed personal. It was suddenly just a lot of information. Now! There's only one post and two submitted characters, so hopefully what I have to say is good. The post itself really sets a dark and gritty tone for this new world, so that I have to commend you on. I could follow along visually with the piece, but not so much when it comes to the mechanics and flow. Whenever there's a new bar of dialogue, you must start a new paragraph. When there's a conversation, words between two people you have to break between what they say! Don't just tack it all together in the same paragraph! The scene seemed to work as a few separate elements, but because of the odd formatting (when I say odd, I'm just talking about it being separated into three large chunks instead of broken up more naturally with flow of dialogue and progression of action) I was left at the end going .. "now what?" and that's still where I stand. I hope to read more of this roleplay, and I certainly hope it hasn't died already! Just remember to keep things personal. These post-apocalyptic stories work SO much better when the reader and the player feels actually personally involved. Keep ramping up the tone and the feel of the game, don't worry so much about the factions, elements, and nuts and bolts of the game. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!

OOC Notes
The main room was poorly lit from a large fire place in the left wall and several gas lamps around the room. Vic noted the place was a fire trap. They ordered some drinks and sat at a table near several girls who were advertising there services to the men in the establishment. “The man in Darringvile said you had some sort of retrieval job for me” said Vic. “That’s correct” said Roth “you see I belong to the Hammer Foundation and it has recently came to are attention that there is an item that could be immensely important to us in Chicago.” “The Hammer foundation?” said Vic “why not send one of your little armies up there to get it then?” “We did in fact we sent three” said Roth “and every single one of them died.” “Died of what” asked Vic? “Of what anyone dies of Raiders, Chem storms, Muties, and just plain bad luck” said Roth. “So you think one man has a better chance” said Vic “sounds like your item is unobtainable.” “We tried quantity, so now were attempting quality” said Roth “were getting individuals from all over the Deathlands and pointing them at Chicago.”
“O.K. I’ll bite” said Vic “what’s this item you want and what’s in it for me?” “The item we want is a black case with the numbers 344286 stenciled on the top of it, inside are several computer CDs” said Roth. “As for what’s in it for you, well once you hand over the disks we will give you a vehicle loaded with pre-war weapons and ammo” said Roth with a smile on his face. A vehicle loaded with weapons and ammo was a ticket to a better life and could set you up for good in the Deathlands. “You got a deal” said Vic “any hints on were to start in Chicago, it’s a big place after all.” “There’s a Redoubt under Millennium park, inside it somewhere is the case” said Roth “you’ll need this code to open the titanium door.” He passed Vic a scrap of paper with a series of numbers written on it. “So how many people are you guys getting to go get this thing” asked Vic? “Honestly I don’t know” said Roth “were getting people from all over the Deathlands.” “So the first one there and back gets the loot” said Vic. “That right” said Roth. With that Vic stood up and walked out the front door in the general direction of Chicago.
