Introduction
The Sinopian elder sent the most able-bodied villagers to go fetch some water, but since the nearest river was five miles away it was a futile effort. There was nothing to do but sit back and watch their home burn completely to the ground.
While the village could be repaired, their peace of mind could not. There was always that fear of waking up in an inferno; that fear of knowing the sun, responsible for sustained life on Earth, was out to get them. At the end of the ordeal there were 39 human casualties, and as horrible as this may be, they were used to it.
-------------------------------------------------
1400 years ago, the world was a dark and lawless hell overran by powerful wizards who used their magic with reckless abandon. One wizard in particular, Warlock Sinos, was disappointed with the world he was living in. He grew tired of the bloodshed and chaos and felt ashamed that he was part of the problem.
The man decided to leave the fray and seek refuge at the edges of the world. He met his wife there, settled down and had a son. Maintaining a peaceful life, however, was far from possible. It was difficult trying to raise a son in such a tumultuous environment and Sinos did not want his son growing up in such a world.
In an ultimate test of power, Sinos drained the magic from millions of beings around Flat Earth and used it to create a magic star to hover above the planet to provide light and energy for those who were also seeking peace and harmony. The Sun was unstable on its own, so Sinos sacrificed himself to pilot his new creation for as long as possible.
Many enjoyed the change of pace and decided to adapt to this new, simple way of life. Others, especially the magic-drained and bloodthirsty, were enraged. The Angered, as they were now called, did whatever they could to disturb the peace and upset the new Sun God. Sinos decided that if they were not going to behave, they’d be better off somewhere else. He banished The Angered to the Underside of the planet where they were free to continue wreaking havoc amongst themselves.
Twenty years later, an old warrior named Quemus (one of the Angered) and his son, decided to lead a revolt against the Sun God. He felt Sinos had no right to change the world for his own reasons and banish over half the world population. He also thought Sinos was an arrogant fool for thinking he could be a god. Quemus was a man filled with eternal hatred and rage and wanted nothing other than to see the death of Sinos and the destruction of his silly star.
Quemus, Jr. was loyal to his father but felt Sinos had some good ideas. He also felt cheated by Sinos, he was one of the last necromancers and his power was partially drained. He decided to go along with his father’s endeavors. The two led a huge army back to the Upside to challenge Sinos the Sun God. This infuriated Sinos, and as a punishment created another “super ball”, The Moon, to hover above the Underside and be piloted by his sick wife whose human body was fading anyway. This only made The Angered more upset and escalated their attack. It was one versus thousands and the Angered were still outmatched by the Sun God’s waves of solar fire. The plan would have been a complete bust had Quemus, Jr. not been there to continuously resurrect fallen soldiers and his general father.
Sinos’ biggest mistake was deciding to fight honorably. Sinos was a wizard, not a close-combat fighter. Quemus realized this and when he got close enough, he challenged Sinos to a sword fight. Quemus managed to disarm him and then struck him with his own Solar Blade, a killing blow. The Sun began to fade. Quemus was, for the first time in years, happy. His son, however, felt somebody should take over for Sinos and volunteered to be the Sun God. An argument erupted between the two and In a fit of rage the son killed the father. A true crime of passion. Quemus, Jr. put on the armor and became the new Sun God. It wasn’t until a bit later he realized the error in killing his father. To make it up to him, he swore on his life to do anything in his power to make Sinos’ relatives suffer.
Quemus, Jr. is the current Sun God.

This role play takes place on Flat Earth.
The Upside: The Sun shines 24/7 on this side of the earth. Flat Earth does not rotate and the Sun is always at a fixed position west of the world. The further east one travels, the less sunlight in the area; the furthest point seems like dusk. This side is the more civilized and tame of the two. [Click for map]
The Underside: The Moon shines 24/7 on this side of the earth. It is always night time here. It is a more hostile environment with unforgiving terrain. The further west one travels, the brighter it becomes. The area closest to the moon has the most light, and so it is only fitting that this area serves as an oasis in the world of darkness and danger. Much of this side is uncharted and home to the beastly and sinister. The Moon is not as powerful as the Sun and much of the Underside is in complete darkness. [Click for map]
*Note: although it resembles the real Moon, The Moon in this fantasy appears more like a less-powerful Sun. It gives off little light and even littler heat.
It is possible to travel between the two sides. There's the hard and borderline-suicidal way, traveling by a river that runs off the side of the earth. Then, there's the easier (yet still hard) alternative. The Great Rift is a huge tunnel in the ground that serves as a passageway between the two sides. Also, the maps do not show all villages.
Sinopia is a medium-sized village located on a desert plain.
-------------------------------------------------
For this role play to work we'll probably need at least three or four main characters (villagers) to embark on the quest. The more the merrier within reason. Other characters/villains will be created as needed and can be played by whoever. This and other stuff can be discussed at the OOC board.

OOC Notes
Two days had passed and the village was in shambles. Debris was everywhere, homes were collapsed , and the earth around them was scorched. Despite all of this, the Sinopians simply shook it off and started rebuilding. Unless one was very young or very sick, everyone had something to do or someone to help. If one wasn’t making water trips to the Sinopian River, there were homes to be rebuilt, crops to be replanted, and their tiny bit of infrastructure always needed repairs.
About three-fourths of the fires had been put out and most of the smoke had risen. Still, it was an awfully hot afternoon with no clouds in sight. Sinopia was in a desert-like environment so it was always very warm, but after an attack from the Sun the temperature would always rise for a few days.
---
Danjus and about twenty other villagers were in a trench right next to the Sinopian River. Instead of having to walk over five miles to the river, they wanted the river to come to them. They were digging out a canal with nothing but their makeshift shovels or bare hands. Progress was slow but steady, and Danjus would stay busy as long as he wasn’t distracted.
OOC Notes
The past two days have been the most heartbreaking in her entire life. She had watched her home and land burn to practicably nothing. Her brother and herself has dug four graves by hand to bury her father, sister-in-law and young niece and nephew. She tore her eyes away from the sun to glance at where the graves were. A marker had been placed on each. Lucina had torn long pieces of her dress to make small flags atop them that now danced in the wind. She felt another sting but no tears came. Her heart was heavy with sorrow that was quickly turning to anger. Why had this happened? What her family? What Sinopia? She glared again up at the sun, cursing it's very existence.
Her brother's voice interrupted her silent rage. Her had been gathering any salvageable items from their homes and land. Late yesterday evening, they assumed it would be best to leave their land and head into the village. Many other's would need help. Lucas needed to help. He needed to and wanted to stay busy, both physically and mentally. Luce however, couldn't move past the emptiness she now felt in her soul. Anger and hurt often led people to breaking points and she feared her's was nearing.
"Luce." He said gently, reaching out for her hand. As she turned to face him, he examined the bandages he had made for for. They were again pieces from her once beautiful dress. Offering a small smile, he grasped her hand. "We should start into town." She didn't reply, just simply fell into step behind him.
It was a quiet journey. Lucas kept attempting to make conversation, mentioning the village and it's state. Luce knew she should have conversed with her brother. She knew she should be comforting him in any way possible, but she just couldn't. She simply listened and walked. As they made it into town, they found it was as it always is after a disaster. People banding together to rebuild. Again the anger flashed in Lucina's heart. They shouldn't have to rebuild. These children shouldn't have to suffer. The sting came again as a thought of her niece running through the village paths crossed her mind. Something had to be done...
Lucas led them through the village to a location where others from the outskirts were gathering and attempting to set up a temporary camp. The two of them worked together to set up quickly before they headed off to see where they could jump in and help out. With the entire village being in total devastation, it wouldn't be a hard task.
OOC Notes
Tarik had entered the ruined village from the North entrance, or what remained of it. Buildings were in rubble, yet the villagers were not in despair. It was the opposite in fact. Every man, woman, and child was up and trying their best to repair what they called "home." Tarik motioned toward a boy who was busying running back and forth with charred bricks. "What has happened in this village, boy?" he asked, although his tone was that of a command.
The boy paused, turning a deeply burned and scarred face toward the man of which did not grimace toward the terribly horrible sight of burned youth.
"God," he said flat. The turned heel and was on with his work.
Pacing forward, the traveler made his way to the bar/inn/recovery area. It was less a building but more of a community area used to heal scarred hearts with alcohol. Having found an empty table, Tarik sat in a closed stance. Looking around, men and women could be seen drinking, sullen face. Tarik noticed the attention he was getting. He knew it had been some time since anyone had seen a new, non-scarred face in the village.
OOC Notes
Replacing the little item in the satchel tied about her waist, the young woman shaded her face with a hand and peered into the distant expanse. As a traveling healer, Kiella always kept her ears open for news of trouble, situations that might call for someone of her skills, limited as they were. Of course, any tales of Sinopia were whispered in hushed voices, with tone of disdain, as though the people in that place were somehow shameful, lowly.
The young woman herself never bought into it. Who was anyone to say that a village or a people was cursed? Maybe it was true, maybe it wasn't. As far as Kiella was concerned, even cursed people fought and bled and suffered, and she would not deny treatment to the injured. Any healer worth their salt knew that this was an integral part of their job, their credo.
Adja... the man who had taught her as much occupied her thoughts as her steady pace ate away the miles.
As she had heard, the town itself appeared to have been burned nearly to ruin, and many of the villagers were running about repairing masonry or structural framework. So it caught fire recently then. Kiella caught sight of several burn marks on a number of the people she passed, some fresh as she would have expected, but some much older. It was true then: this was not the first time the little town had seen the horrors of its own destruction.
The small half-smile that she usually wore faded from her angular face as she surveyed the damage. So many burns... I might be here a while. Hopefully, she'd be fed and housed. If not, well... she was used to making do, and there was no way she could abandon the area now, not while the children still walked about with red-and-black scorch marks on their faces.
She caught sight of a group of people digging some kind of trench, likely for the river, she decided. A line of bucket-passers deposited the sandy soil into a pile some distance away, and men in the trench itself filled the containers with yet more sand.
Putting the smile back into place, she approached a young man with a crooked nose and a sun-dark tan. "Excuse me," she said lightly, offering the man her waterskin, "could you tell me where you're keeping the injured? I'd like to help." She knew her looks would give her away as an outsider even if her question did not, but she held no real fear of negative repercussions. So few people could do magic that even her limited gifts would help her escape most any situation; her knives would take care of the rest. But Kiella didn't even think it would come to that. No, she doubted they would refuse help where it was offered in circumstances like this.
At least, I certainly hope they don't...
OOC Notes
He paused.
“Actually, I don’t think they’re there anymore… but you’re looking for a large sign next to a- “
…
“No wait, I think that was burnt down?” He stood up into a pose of deep thought and rubbed the hair on his chin for a moment.
“Yeah, that was definitely burnt down.” he concluded.
“Hey, tell you what,” he lifted himself out of the trench. “I’ll show you where it is. Besides, I could use a break, I’ve been out here for awhile.” He brushed the dirt and sand off himself, graciously took the waterskin and began walking toward the village.
“So you want to help us out?” he asked her. “Outsiders rarely come to help us. That’s probably because we don’t really need it. I don’t know if you know what’s been going on, but we’re constantly getting our village trashed by the sun. Sounds crazy but it’s true." He continued, almost bragging.
" Fortunately for us, we’re unbreakable... I'm Danjus, by the way.”
OOC Notes
Are they really so accustomed to this suffering that it has become as nothing to them? No, surely not. Perhaps this man did not lose anyone close to him this time... it seems certain that any who had would be more grim. Still, the attitude was refreshing, and when he offered to lead her to where she needed to go, she didn't even have to fake the smile.
"Well," she replied to his question, "unbreakable you may be, but uninjured you are not, and I'd like to do what I can." She took her waterskin back, and judged from the weight that she'd have to fill it again at the river. Ah, no matter. He clearly needed it more than I did.
Realizing belatedly that she had yet to reply to his introduction, she looked up at him. "It's nice to meet you, Danjus. I am called Kiella."
OOC Notes
Lucina solemnly followed her brother to the recovery area, where he stopped to face her. Again with a gentle smile he said, "Maybe you should go in there for a while. Rest a bit from our walk. I'll come by in a bit to let you know where I'll be." She replied with a nod and headed into the recovery area. Several were sitting around, most likely on break from work. The village tended to work in shifts, not wanting to overwhelm any one person. Lucia studied the familiar faces and listened as they exchanged tales of what they had each went through three days ago. In the past Luce would have sat down and joined right in, however it was different this time.
No one gave her a second glance. It didn't matter to the other villagers that she looked a mess, as most of them did also. She decided to take a seat near a group of elders, hoping to overhear anything that might be usual. As she sat, she noticed a face she did not recognize. A man was sitting a few paces over from her. Clearly he was not Sinopian, he was much to clean and also Luce practicably knew everyone in the village. She couldn't help but gaze at him. Wondering what his life was like. The anger in her doubted that he had ever scene such a sight as this and was immediately irritated that he was even here.
She was very seriously considering rising up and creating a scene, but thought better of it. Instead she simply glared at the new comer, her mind automatically thinking the worst of him.
Lucas
Lucas watched as his sister walked into the recovery area. He had never seen her like this and was deeply worried. She had barely spoken in three days. Seeing that she was safely sitting, he continued on down the path taking in the destruction all around him. It was nothing he hadn't seen before, but still it was disheartening, but at the same time he felt proud. Amongst the destruction were his people coming together. They were helping each other and working hard and no one was complaining. He gave a sad smile as he passed a mother breaking apart some bread for three children. He thought of Helen, his wife. She was always so calming and helpful after the fires. He wished she was with him now.
He pushed away the thought almost as quickly as it had come. He one again forced himself to stay positive. He most certainly did not want to succumb to the same state that Lucina was in currently. Refocusing on the task at hand, he was happy to see Danjus, a long-time friend who lived in the village.
"Danjus!" He greeted him with the traditional embrace. "Hello brother!" Danjus was not related to Lucas, but most of the villagers called each other brother and sister. "Luce and I have just arrived to offer helping hands. Where are you working?" He was hoping that working along side Danjus would keep his mind off of his deceased wife and children and his sister, who he feared may be loosing her mind. It was then he noticed Danjus' companion. "Hello." He bowed slightly, not giving the hug, due to the fact that she was obviously an outsider and he didn't want to offend her.
OOC Notes
Tarik turned and addressed his gazer. The look he gave back was strong. His gaze was stern but with no hint of hostility however it was a look that would intimidate, radiating the message that Tarik was a man would not back down from the challenging gaze . The rugged gesture of his face showed that he had good reason not to fear anything. as spoken from experience.
His chair slid backward as Tarik stood, his gaze still fixed on Lucina. His staff stomped on the floor as he walked toward her. In moments, he stood before her looking down. He gestured toward the bartender who was mindlessly cleaning an already clean glass. "Whiskey and a warm meal," Tarik commanded. He raised a purse of coins to show he was good for the purchase. The traveler spoke to the woman as he showed his coinage.
"I realize that you must have had a trying couple of days. However," he paused, looking down at her blue eyes, "this anger you are emitting should be controlled. I'm not like most strangers." Again, his tone was neither hostile nor humorous.
OOC Notes
Nevertheless, she rather liked these strange people, who did not seem to question her presence with the hostility she might have expected from a group so ostracized from the larger world. "Hello," she replied politely. Deciding that it might be best to just get to the point and allow Danjus to get back to his work and this other man to... whatever he was doing, she continued. "My name is Kiella. I heard you might be in need of a healer here, and I've come to offer my assistance." She returned the bow smoothly, with a careful, measured grace. It was not a gesture she was accustomed to, but she would not insult her hosts by refusing.
Upon looking closer, she noticed that not all about this man was as it seemed. On the surface, he appeared much the same imperturbable sort as Danjus, but it was as though there was something else, some great grief just beneath that. It was none of her business, so she would not ask, but that did not mean she would ignore the information entirely. Instead, she stored the little fact away, just in case it might become important later.
Now... where might the injured be, I wonder? don't tell me they're all dead? Or working... Perhaps it was simply out of necessity, but she had noticed several minor wounds on some of the villagers, the ones that were up and about their tasks. But unless the attacks killed all that they maimed seriously, there must be an infirmary somewhere.
OOC Notes
He redirected his attention to Lucas. “But to answer your question, I was working on the canal, but since I’m here I may as well take a break. I'm not sure what you've done today, but I'm sure you've earned a break, too. So what do you say?" he asked with an open arms gesture and a facial expression as if he were trying to sell him something. "Just for a bit? And then we could find something within the village to work on.”
He again turned back to Kiella and pleaded, “And Kiella, don't be a stranger! I know it looks grim, but we're good people I'd feel insulted if you couldn't find at least some form of comfort during your stay. The folks down at the infirmary are nice and we’ve got an inn and a town hall where many of us go to relax and take our minds off of things. It really helps. In fact, you should come find us later.”
OOC Notes
It wasn't terribly difficult to find the building with the hole in the roof, and she neatly dodged several of the people bustling in and out as she approached an elderly woman with an air of authority. After explaining herself, she was immediately set to work on the worst of the injuries. It appeared that the town itself did not have a healer, and so the people were making do with what she judged to be a rather impressive knowledge of herblore. I imagine they've had much practice, she thought grimly, approaching the first occupied mat in her designated area.
A small boy lay upon it, and her heart twisted painfully at the sight of the burn marks all over his body, most of them oozing pus. This is beyond my skill, but not entirely. She may not be able to heal the flesh completely, but she could take out the infection and nudge the skin on its way to healing.
She pushed down her light gray hood and knelt beside the boy, speaking soothing words of comfort as she passed her hands inches above his wounds, searching out the places where they were worst. Reaching inside herself, she felt the trickle of magic like a cool, refreshing spring to her consciousness, and called it into her hands, passing them once again over the wounds, fighting back infections and sapping the heat from the most damaging of the burns in an attempt to take away the brunt of the child's pain, using just a bit more to send him into a restful slumber, so that he might recover more easily.
She opened her eyes to find the old woman's brown ones regarding her solemnly. "You will still need to bandage him," she said softly, so as not to disturb the other patients, "but he will live, and the worst is over." She could not deny that a healing like this was draining, but Kiella felt much better knowing that she had truly helped someone.
Her task was far from over, though, and it was not until she felt a hand on her shoulder some hours later that she realized she'd been at it for longer than she probably should have. "Here," the woman said, pressing a waterskin into her hands, "drink this, and then rest. None of these will die today." Her tone sounded relieved, and Kiella smiled. She'd lost track of the number of patients she'd seen to, and her body was punishing her for it. She was absolutely exhausted, and doubted she had the strength to even lift her limbs at this point. Still, she'd promised to find Danjus and his friend, and so she forced herself to drink the water, then move.
Outside, the air was much fresher, if still unrelentingly warm. She replaced her hood and meandered through the town until she came to what must surely have been the inn area. Several people seemed to be drowning their sorrows in drink, but it seemed the more common occupation was simply talking. She looked around, but didn't spy Danjus, and so she chose an empty table and sat down with a sigh of relief, trying to steady her shaking limbs.
OOC Notes
Under normal circumstances and well really up until three days ago, Lucina would have welcomed an outsider with open arms. They were few and far between, most of them being scarred their friendship with any Sinopian would result in the sun's fury following them home. However from the looks of this man, he possibly didn't have a home. Lucina's glare faltered. She realized she had no reason to resent this man. It was the sun who deserved all of her anger and hate. Still she wasn't sure she could properly be polite and welcoming as she would have in the past.
As the man turned and suddenly acknowledged her with a look of his own, she couldn't help but furrow her brows even more. It simply hadn't occurred to her that he would even notice or pay mind to her. His glare was menacing but not one she feared or one that seemed challenging. As he stood and came towards Luce, her look no doubt turned to slight confusion. He ordered food and was was standing before her. As he spoke, she listened without a word. Trying.... Trying was putting it nicely. Anger again rose in her. He had no idea what she had been through. Why was he even speaking to her?
Looking up at him, towering over the table and herself, the anger turned to amusement. She actually gave a smirk and a soft laugh. Maybe Lucas' worrying would prove to be worthwhile. Maybe she was loosing her mind. Did this man see her as a threat? She was small in frame, bandaged, her clothes were torn, her hair was tangled, she knew she was covered in dirt and ash. Her smirk vanished as she realized she most likely did look like a threat. Maybe not a physical threat, but a mental threat. She probably looked like a which or some mad woman who roamed the village streets snatching children. Unsure of what to say to the man, she simply gestured for him to join her and hoped she had succeeded in erasing the anger in her face. At least the anger towards him.
Lucas
"Very pleased to meet you Sister." He offered her a very warm and genuine smile as she explained her visit to the village. "Your services will surely and truly be appreciated and welcomed." His smile faltered for a moment, wondering if her healing capabilities could heal the sickness that had seemed to settle in his sister's heart. He pushed away that thought for now.
He was actually great-full in Danjus' suggestion. "Luce is back at the recovery area. We could go there for a sit and a drink perhaps?" He wondered if he should explain to Danjus what had happened at home. Danjus will surely see the change in Luce as soon as he lays eyes on her. Waving goodbye to Kiella and backing up Danjus' invitation to join them, he watched the woman leave. As him and Danjus started out toward the recovery area, Lucas' smile fell. "Brother, I must tell you that only Luce and myself are left. The others have passed on." He knew Danjus would know this meaning of his words and that was all that would need to be said.
Loss was not uncommon in Sinopia and most people simply accepted as life and moved on. Really, what else could they do? Himself and Lucina had never had death strike so close to home and not under these circumstances. Luce was displaying emotions he had never dealt with.
OOC Notes
He kept his head down and endured the awkward silence for the rest of the walk. He shook his head in disbelief. I’ve known this man for how long now and this is all I can say to him?
It wasn't until they arrived before the inn when he decided to speak again. Before he opened the door he stopped, but he didn't take his eyes off the door. “You know what I think, Lucas? I think that sun up there has done quite enough damage and ought to be destroyed. Our village should not have to go through this. You and Lucina should not have to go through this… we need to get rid of it.” He explained his seemingly outlandish view in such a matter-of-fact way that most people would think he was joking. It was as if people casually just got up and removed suns as part of their daily routine. “I’m serious, Lucas,” he pulled the door open. “The sun’s never going to stop unless somebody steps up and does something.”
Danjus stood for a second looking back and forth scoping the crowd until he saw the back of Lucina’s head. “There she is.” He hesitated for a second before deciding to walk over. In his head he began rehearsing his condolence speech; his lips moved but he didn't say anything. He was no good with this kind of thing and while he really felt for them and their losses, Danjus’ only known relative was still alive. After goofing up with Lucas, the last thing he wanted to do was seem insincere twice.
OOC Notes
He returned his attention back to the young woman...
OOC Notes
Watching the man sit across from her, her body eased a little. She realized she should introduce herself and was searching for the words that in the past would have came so easily to her. Her thoughts were interrupted when then man asked, "What has happened in the village?" Death. Vengeance. Wrath. Fury. Loss. Sacrifice. Any of those would work as a simple explination. If the man was watching he most likely see her face fall. Whatever emotion it was showing, now had sorrow was written all over her features. She felt a sting and he eyes grew glossy. Her lips parted but she hesitated, searching for the words, "....." It was then that Lucas placed a hand on her shoulder. "Sister, I see you have found a guest?"
Any words that she was going to say disappeared instantly. She blinked away the moisture in her eyes and gave her brother a half smile as he introduced himself to the stranger. It was then she noticed Danjus was with him. Danjus has been a long time friend of both her and Lucas. Standing, she gave him a gentle hug as greeting, she felt for now this was enough. In the past she would have been jovial, teasing him about some maiden who found him attractive or the amount of her biscuits he could eat in one setting. Those days seemed an eternity ago.
Lucas
Lucas clenched his teeth and felt a pull on his heart as Danjus expressed him sympathy. A simple nod was all he offered, knowing that if he opened his mouth to speak, he would have probably broke down into tears. He knew Danjus was sincere and his condolences meant a great deal to Lucas. They continued their walk in silence. Silence that Lucas was grateful for at the moment.
They were approaching the inn and Lucas was eager to get inside and check on Luce. In the past he wouldn't have worried at all, but her strange behavior as of late, made him have concerns. Just as they were about to step inside, Danjus stopped. He simply stared at the man in shock. What he was speaking of was unheard of. Possibly even blasphemous. Lucas glanced up to the sun, almost in fear that it would send a flame at that very moment and lick Danjus up from where he stood. Lucas had no words to offer, he just stared in confusion and awe. Awe because he had never heard anyone say such and was impressed that it was usually jesting, Danjus who had suggested such a brave and indeed ridiculous deed.
Again, Lucas was grateful when Danjus didn't press the topic and continued into the bar. Lucas was still a little dumbfounded when Danjus spotted Luce. As they crossed the room, Lucas added from their earlier conversation, "Luce is not taking the loss well. She's barely spoke since the flames retreated." He barely got that out before they were at Luce's table. Lucas put a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Sister, I see you have found a guest."
Lucas did not hesitate to reach across the table and offer his hand for a shake. "My name is Lucas, pleasure to meet you brother." Lucas radiated a welcoming smile, much the opposite of what Lucina had showed the stranger. Lucas assumed that Luce had yet to introduce herself. He smiled as she gave Danjus a hug. "This is Lucina, my sister." He paused assuming Danjus would want to introduce himself.
OOC Notes
He held out his hand, which Tarik took and shook. The shake was strong and firm, Tarik's hand extremely rough and dry. "Greetings, Lucas," the traveler replied. "I am Tarik."
"I was talking to your sister," a pause, he looked back at the woman. "Lucina. She was kind enough to allow myself to accompany her." Tarik glanced at the man Lucina had hugged. He hadn't said anything as of yet, but he obviously part of their group. "I have ordered food here. Will you and your sister..., and your friend join me?"
OOC Notes
Danjus didn’t say much else. He sat back, twiddled his thumbs and looked around for a bit until he looked at Lucas again. "So, pretty good idea, right?" he asked. “Think about it. No more suffering, no more damage. I’m surprised nobody had thought of this before.” He kept his voice low.

She returned to her seat, thankful that Danjus did not mention what she was sure Lucas had already told him. Lucas and Danjus took a seat on either side of her and finished their greetings with Tarik. Again she realized she should also insert some sort of greeting as well, but she didn't. Lucas leaned toward her with a questioning look. She was sure he was wondering if she had in fact been conversing with Tarik, given she had barely spoke in the last three days. He asked her softly if she could eat, to which she gave a nod of her head.
It was then that Danjus spoke up but in a hushed voice. No more suffering? No more Damage? What could he be speaking of? She looked to him with curiosity lighting her features and she placed her bandaged hand over his to get his attention. Once his eyes were on her own, she asked simply, "What has no one thought of before?" Despite her recent silence, her voice was clear and no doubt would turn all the men's head to her.
Lucas
His smile was still broad as Tarik offered his greetings. "Luce can be quite an angel at times." At that he glanced toward her, not quite sure if this was one of those times. He turned back to Tarik and took a seat, "Yes, Brother! We would love to join you." He leaned into Luce, asking if she would like some food, figuring she wouldn't bother ordering for herself.
As she nodded Danjus' voice grabbed his attention. Not this again. He was hesitant of Danjus' brave suggestions. It was unheard of. He stole a glance at Tarik, hoping the new comer wouldn't think his entire village as crazy as these two were coming off as. Lucas was about to confide to Danjus his fears when Lucina spoke. His head immediately jerked toward her in a bit of shock.

Deciding that all this speculation was entirely useless if she was simply going to sit about, Kiella forced herself out of her seat and onto stiff legs. A few ankle rotations later, and she was sure she'd be able to walk as though she were unperturbed.
So the once-caravaner glided over to the group of them. Normally, she wouldn't interrupt, but from the looks on their faces, things were getting a tad awkward already. Kiella was fairly good at diffusing tense situations, and figured that perhaps they could use the help.
She heard Danjus say something about an idea he'd had, and then the woman appeared to call him out on it. silence reigned for a few seconds, until Kiella was withing range of the table.
"Ah, Danjus. I suppose I picked the right place after all." She looked around as though noticing the rest of the group for the first time. "Hello, everyone," she said brightly, but not so happily as to offend their grief, and inclined her head in greeting. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything? I just came to say that it looks like the patients are safe for tonight." This, she directed to Danjus and the dark-haired man, the only ones who would have any idea what she was talking about.

“Well, I was just telling Lucas that the sun is probably not going to quit unless somebody makes it –please correct me if I’m wrong- and it seems every few years the thing decides to burn up our village and take lives, yet nobody does anything about it. So, I propose that we go and get rid of it ourselves.”
He stopped for a second to gauge his audience’s reaction.
“Yeah I know, I know, and I still don’t know how we’d go about doing this. But think about it, if nobody destroys the sun, it’s just going to keep chipping away at us until we’re all dead; and you know it’s only a matter of time before it gets us.” He stared directly at Lucas and Lucina and pointed at each of them with one of his fingers. “Yes, us. We will all die and burn!”
He raised his voice a little on that last word, but then he reclined back in his seat and seemed calm again. He fell silent for a few seconds until he glanced at the two outsiders. “And who’s to say that once everyone in Sinopia is dead, it won’t target some other poor, innocent souls?”
By the end of his spiel, his tone had gone from nonchalance to one of anger. A woman arrived with a plate of food, but Danjus ignored both her existence and the appetizing aroma. He just sat there and didn’t say anything else until someone decided to comment.

A woman with his food came to the table and placed it in front of the stranger. Tarik was too tired and too hungry to be thinking of fantasies. As soon as the food touched the table, Tarik was over it instantly. It was some sort of meat and vegetables, but it was cooked and tasted delicious. Where the conversation was at this point, he did not know, but he would rejoin after his meal was fully devoured.

Lucas really didn't know what to be more baffled about. Danjus' crazy idea to destroy the sun or Danjus' crazy idea to destroy the sun or his sister, who had barely spoken to him in three days, taking an interest in the idea. Kiella's appearance was enough to jar him out of it a little. "Ah, Kiella. I'm so glad you were able to join us." He rose with a smile to offer her his chair beside Lucina. "Please sit and no you are not interrupting. Again, thank you for what your doing with the sick." Turning to find a new chair for himself, he turned back to her. "I'm so sorry! I just realized I didn't even give you my name earlier. We've been through... a lot over the past few days. I am Lucas and this is my sister, Lucina. We are very pleased to meet you."
He spoke for Luce again, assuming she wouldn't introduce herself yet again. He took a chair from another table and sat back down at the table between Kiella and Tarik just in time to hear Danjus tell his 'grand idea'. All he could do was look at him. It was so outlandish, so ridiculous, he believed even Tarik thought so. Danjus continued adding more drama to his words.
Again, Lucas had no words of his own. Danjus was right about it would never stop and eventually the three of them would end up like so many Sinopians before them. But that was simply the way it was, they way it has always been. The sun wouldn't quit no doubt. The food arrived and unlike Tarik, Lucas did not touch it. He was too filled with emotion.
Lucas kept his voice firm yet gentle, "Danjus, who are we to make such strong suggestions? We do not even know if such a thing can be done. We are but..." He was cut off by Lucina.
Lucina
Luce was eagerly waiting to hear what Danjus had to say when a female voice cut him off. She raised her blue eyes to a woman regarding both Danjus and her brother. Luce's eyes tore from the female to Lucas as he very warmly welcomed her and even offered the lady his chair. He was always polite, but she couldn't help but give him an unseen look of disapproval, thought she wasn't exactly sure at the moment what she was disapproving. As Lucas introduced her, Luce gave the woman a nod of acknowledgment.
Danjus barely skipped a beat and was back to telling his idea. Lucina refocused her attention on him, forgetting momentarily of Kiella and Lucas. Unlike her brother, Luce couldn't help but find reasoning in every point Danjus was making. She even found herself nodding her head in agreement.
For whatever reason, Luce could tell Lucas was not getting it. "Lucas." She shifted in her seat to look him in the eyes, "Danjus is right. Something much be done. No, we may not know exactly what to do, but you must be in favor of doing something. We can no longer sit here and act as if Sinopia has not be wronged. We can no longer act as if this is the way life should be. I, for one, will not stand for it any longer." Lucas at this time was trying to hush her, glancing apologetically to Kiella and Tarik. The pleading look in his eyes made her lower her voice and look toward Danjus. "This can not be the way we continue to live our lives." Again she felt a sting in her eyes and her voice faltered as she turned back to Lucas to hold his stare, "Olivia and Orion deserved something better... They deserved to live. We must try and find away to stop this nightmare."
With that she broke her gaze into her brother eyes and looked down. She sat back in her seat as if speaking took all of her energy.

When the food came, Kiella picked at a few pieces of fruit, producing a sturdy knife from beneath her light gray cloak to slice it. It hadn't been offered to her specifically, so she was hesitant to eat more than she could pay for if asked to. She kept a careful eye on the different people at the table as Danjus laid bare his proposal. Lucina seemed to be eating it up, as though this were something she'd been looking for- no, something she needed. Lucas himself was a bit more hesitant, apparently able to distance himself from the immediate pain and see the gravity of what was being suggested. The other outsider appeared to be at his food with no heed for the conversation, but Kiella could tell that he was listening closely. He had the look of others she had met, people for whom wariness was something they wore like a second skin.
The healer herself figured that she should be like that, but she simply could not bring herself to remain closed off from others in such a manner. The whole world suffered, these people worse than most; how could she avoid the desire to help in any way she could? The image of the burned boy flashed across her mind.
She sighed, allowing herself to be noticed once more. "I will not pretend that your plan is plausible, but if you choose to go through with it, there are some things you must consider." She paused, hoping they would at least hear her out. "Life on the road is a lot more dangerous than one in a village, even one whose fate is so blackened as this. There are no easy resources, no homes to sleep in at night, no neighbors to provide assistance. You would be leaving every measure of comfort you have behind." She shrugged, and fixed her eyes on each of them in turn, to emphasize her point. She was sure the other wanderer knew this, but how did you explain the hardship of constant travel to those who'd never endured it?
"You will need equipment, supplies, and the ability to replace them, which means a willingness to work for strangers, not all of whom will treat you with any respect." She suppressed a wince; sometimes, being clearly from the Underside wasn't pleasant. And with the reputation of this village, it wouldn't be easy for them either. She wondered how many times they'd be cheated out of a hard day's work for less than it was worth, how many times some merchant would be able to sell them inferior equipment for far too much before they caught on. She'd had the benefit of a caravaner's education. They knew nothing but the love of neighbors and family, no matter that they were subjected to the whims of a capricious, cruel Sun.
"And you will not go unharmed." She cast her eyes to the table before her. She hadn't meant to say so much, but something about these people bid her offer them the information. She knew not if they could accomplish what they discussed, but she thought at least that they had best decide with all the facts. They were really unaware of what they would be facing. No matter how stubborn in his earnestness Danjus could be, how desperately Lucina needed to act, or how kind was the expression in Lucas's eyes, it would not be enough to save them.

“You’re right Kiella,” he finally said, sobering his tone. “You know, I don’t even think I’ve been passed the marshes in all of my life. This definetly won’t be easy.” He leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers on the table. “But you’re a traveler, aren’t you? And I’m sure you are, too.” He glanced at the man he did not know. “Perhaps if you two went with us we would have an easier time travelling through the world. I’m sure you guys are better explorers than any of us are… and well, I have a pole weapon… and I’m sure we could find someplace to stop when needed…” It just set in that this would be the most difficult thing anyone had ever done. He slunk back into his seat and sighed.
No, this has to happen.
He pondered for a moment, then stood up and took a deep breath. “Friends, I know this will be quite a challenging task, but there is no other option. We’ve got to do this,” he concluded; his voice more assertive, yet reassuring. He began pacing back and forth and around the table, hand on his chin. He caught the attention of several inn-goers at surrounding tables. He ignored them, and most of them eventually went back to minding their own business.
“We’ve got to find someone to talk to, someone who knows about this sun. And I definitely agree that we’d need to prepare,” he went on, basically thinking out loud. “But we owe it to ourselves and our village to at least try; so are you guys with me, or what?” As he gave his ultimatum he made his way back to his chair, but did not sit. He started tapping his fingers on the back of his chair, anxiously waiting for his audience’s decision.
OOC Notes
"For those who do not know me, I am Tarik. I've traveled the world for years, and I must say, your goals, Danjus, are not an easy feat. That being said, man is capable of many extraordinary things. Take your village for example, the Sun has plagued you for years, yet every man, woman, and child rebuild. Now, I do not pretend to care for you or your people, but I will not ignore your plea for help." Tarik paused in his speech for breath and to reassure himself that this was the right decision.
"There are answers on the other side of the world, hiding in the darkness that is the Underside. Answers to questions - all questions. That is where I am headed now, for answers." Tarik looked around briefly at his audience's faces. "The Underside is my goal." Tarik stood from his seat and pushed his chair in. "I am leaving in the morning for the Great Rift," he said in a informative tone.
With that, Tarik bowed to the tablemates and walked toward the innkeeper claiming a room for the night whilst paying for the meal. In the morning, Sinopia would just be another village that had been hospitable to the hardened traveler.

So they've finally arrived at the Rift. I'm picturing the place as like... a Greyhound station if it were a very small town and full of guards, all around the ring.

Re: [OOC] The Earthen Plane: Sun of Fury [Open]
And I'm about to post a short intro/change of setting to the rift, and then I'll aim to post again in character tomorrow. I wrote it as if they see the rift in the distance but they are not yet up close.
Edit: School's delivering a beat down, might be a couple days before my next post.

I'd like to start again by next Monday, so that's when I should have my post up. But I'm flexible, in case interest rises or something.
