Introduction
Okay, so on one forum I am on, someone came up with a great roleplaying idea. Of course they already have that going... I just wanted to share it with you. This is basically where a bunch of characters, may be original or pre-existing, are thrown together into the same universe and must fight to get out. So they MAKE A WORKING GROUP that might quarrel occaisionally and have their differences, but can PULL TOGETHER AND WORK AS A GROUP. (DON'T FORCE THE GROUP TO BREAK UP OR FIGHT)
If you wish to speak with a member of the roleplay, discuss the rules, roleplay, or posts or just hang out, go here.
Now to begin...
Character Name: Brian
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Physical Description: has high cheek bones, blonde hair, and a strange eye in his chest and tentacles that come put of his back.
Description: Brian was once a normal teenage boy... once. Now has an eye in his chest that is a parasitic alien that increases his IQ, strength, and gives him tentacles that come out of his back.
And...
Name: To correctly pronounce it, your tongue must be cut out. English translation: Krischovük (Kris for short)
Age: 43,972.4 earth years
Gender: Male...?
Species: Alien of some sort
Physical Description: An alien eye. His pupil is a green slit. The whites of his eye/body are yellow. His blood is blue. He has six scarlet tentacles.
Description: A parasitic alien that lives in Brian's chest. He enhances Brian's strength and IQ, and allows Brian to use his six tentacles that come out of Brian's back. His pupil can fire a ray of green light, and also functions as a mouth. Can also turn Brian into basically a werewolf on command.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Are you sure this is the right way, Kris?"
"Of course I am. When have I ever led you astray?"
"Well, stealing this space ship WAS your idea."
"Dont worry, we'll be seen as heroes when we return. I mean, we discovered life on Mars and two other planets."
"Fine... but I don't think we're anywhere near Earth now."
"Look, a planet! That's our key to getting back!"
"You sure about that?"
"Does this eye look unsure to you?"
"It's kinda hard to tell... you're only an eye. When we get down there, pull in the tentacles, don't use me to talk, especially not in your voice, and I'm putting a shirt on."
Rules
1. Use a line of colored tildes (The squiggly line that looks like this: ~~~~) to signify a change between out of character and in character. Try to stay in character as much as possible, and if you must go out of character, put it at either the beginning or end of your post, not in the middle. If you make a post that is completely out of character, write "OOC:" or "Out of Character:" at the beginning.
2. Use a line of dashes (----) to signify a change in setting or character. (Ex. Since possession is apparently pretty popular, dashes would be used if your character were to change from possessed to normal within the span of one post.)
3. Use italics to show character thoughts (As in what your character is thinking to themselves without saying it out loud), as well as new settings (Ex. September 3rd, 2010, Somewhere in California).
4. Use bold words to show shouting or bold words surrounded by asterisks for loud sound effects. (Ex. *BOOM* *CRASH* *BANG*) Sound effects that aren't loud should just be normal type surrounded by asterisks.
5. Don't double post or force someone to post just so that you can post again. (Duh.)
6. Control only your character. If you ask someone a question, let them respond to it, don't respond for them. If someone is inactive for a while (Ex. Hours or days), you can take over minor control of their character if it's necessary to keep the thread open. Don't do anything that the person wouldn't do themselves, and don't do any major, story-changing actions with their character. If you don't want others to be able to control your character ever, just say so.
7. Don't write people into a corner. In other words, don't make it so that other people can't do anything to get out of whatever situation you put them in. Also, don't force them to take a certain action. Allow them to choose what they want to do.
8. Don't kill people (Unless they have some way of coming back to life). >_> This one should be obvious. How are they supposed to roleplay if they're dead? You can injure people, knock them out, break bones, etc. as long as they can continue their journey eventually, somehow. If you tire of your current persona and you want to switch to a new one, you can write the old one out (If you want to kill yourself, go ahead.) and introduce the new one.
9. Try to be understandable when you post. This means that you should at least make an attempt at making your grammar/spelling easy to understand. (If English isn't your native language or you have some other factor hindering your grammar/spelling, this probably doesn't apply to you.)
10. Don't spam or purposefully derail the story. Try to keep in with what other people are posting, and don't go off randomly changing the entire topic. (If you're separated from the other posters, then it's fine to have a different topic. Try to join with a large group as quickly as you can, though.)
11. You can write in 1st or 3rd person point of view. Personally, I prefer 1st, since you're the one posting, but it's your decision. If you're writing in 3rd person point of view, try to make it clear which person you are.
12. Posts can be as long as you want, but try to make it at least one complete sentence. One word posts are confusing, too short, and seen as spam. One sentence posts are alright, but try to keep most posts at around two sentences minimum.
13. If it isn't obvious who you are responding to in your post, copy and paste only the sentence(s) you are responding to from the other person's post and put it before your response. Make sure it is clear that the sentence was said by someone else. (This means that you should set it apart from the rest of your post by coloring their words or labeling it with their name.) Try not to quote posts unless you are out of character.
14. If you are going to be performing huge, story-changing actions in the story (Ex. Something that will disrupt the current task or affect a majority of the group), you MUST be a relatively active poster on the forums. (Ex. Checking the forums at least once every day or so to respond to posts) This will prevent future occurrences of people making important posts and then going inactive, forcing the RP to a standstill while people wait for them. You don't have to be an active poster just to post in the RP, but try to refrain from completely altering the story until you can be more active.
14a. Obviously, nobody expects you to watch the RP 24/7. If you will be going inactive temporarily (for a long period of time such as a few days or a week), post it in the OOC Experiment topic. This will remind us not to ask you any questions or do anything that relies on your response until you get back.
15. Romance with other characters is fine, as is sex. But please, with sex, don't go into the details. All we need to know is that it happened, and you may say that, but that's all we need.
16. If you want to join the story, try to wait until after one of the slower points where most of the posters are asleep or at school, in order to avoid getting ninja'd or ignored. You might also want to consider waiting until after any major action scenes end, but that's your choice. In your first post, try to integrate yourself with others in the group. Make sure to say the most important info about your character.
If you see someone breaking a rule, DO NOT CALL THEM OUT ON IT. This only serves to cause arguments and fill the thread with a bunch of unnecessary OOC posts, creating a bunch of confusion that could have easily been avoided. Instead of posting "HEY THIS BREAKS THE RULES" after their post, ignore the post completely.
OOC Notes
Faith looks around for some other person. She takes off her hat and clutches it close to her.
"Hello? Is anyone out there?" she says in her sweet girly voice.
She wimpers a little as she examines her surroundings. She then sighs and places the tophat back on her head.
"Wonder where I am..." she thinks outloud. She starts walking around.
She smiles a friendly smile.
"I'm Faith Leo!" she says in a joyful way. she grabs his hand and shakes it roughly, "Nice to meet you!!"
OOC Notes
Brian was surprised by Faith's rough hand shake.
"It's... nice to meet you too, I suppose. I think we should start to explore this planet, maybe some other people will begin to turn up. After all, it couldn't have been an accident we both got sent here, right?"
Re: [OOC] The Experiment
Hey Flame, I'm interested in your roleplay, and I consider myself to be a pretty intelligent gal (I never got lost during Inception), but I can't really do anything with your roleplay unless you give me more information.
How can they all co-exist in the same universe? Were they yanked out of their own?
What's going on?
What's the setting?
All I have is an intro to one of your characters, which tells me next to nothing and is misplaced.
You have a great idea going I think, but there's not enough information to go with.
1) No, you don't. But if you're referring to the unnamed character I made, ignore that please. That was an accident and um... I didn't want to "abandon" it so someone else didn't take it...
2) The antagonist... he's just a human with the power to take other people from their universes...
3) yes, but no one word posts...
<_< >_>Um... this wasn't completely my idea... it was mostly someone else's but I 1) wanted to share it and 2) change up events, characters, how you get off, and many other things... so people, I'm not a genius... I mean, I DID consider doing something like this somewhere but didn't know how or where... I just... got help.
