Introduction

Long ago, in the times before the three great kingdoms and the fall of the fourth, there was no magic within the world. But in a single day, Five Towers that each represented the basic elements of life emerged from the earth in various parts of Bael and suddenly magic was born into this world. The first many years were cataclysmic as various tribes vied to master this new power before others to use it as a weapon of war. Many people died in those days but what came from it were the first archmages, who discovered a great wisdom with this great power. Under them, they gathered up the others who were able to use the magics and built a great city around an even greater academy-and thus the second age of Bael began. In this age, there rose four great kingdoms that lived in peace with each other. These kingdoms were satisfied with their own territories and did not covet the lands that the other kingdoms controlled. But then the first of the fallen mages discovered the darker arts of spellcraft and allowed this shadowy knowledge to corrupt them. They were shunned from the academy and fled to the fourth kingdom where they would corrupt the leaders therein. War broke loose soon after as the fourth kingdom, now playing puppets to these dark wizards, and an age of steel and bloodshed began. As the fourth kingdom fell and retreated back into itself, a third age began-one of fear and contempt for magic....

The Lands of Bael is a continental archipelago, meaning that the continents of this world are separated only be a short span of sea that keeps them otherwise very closely knit together. These continents range from small to rather large in their sizes and play home to a wide variety of creatures and species that insofar have managed to live in relative peace with each other save for the war began by the fourth kingdom. Each continent is ruled over predominantly by one of the four kingdoms though there are area where tribal lifestyles still supersede any sort of more organized civilization. Following is a description of each continent and its ruling party.

The Continent of Argosh, Kingdom of The Alexios Dynasty
Argosh is perhaps the largest of the four continents and also one the most verdant within all of Bael. It is a land of great forests and vast lush plains that seem to never suffer from drought or decay. The people here are especially peaceful as The Alexios Dynasty has always been entirely satisfied with the land that they control and generally let the tribes that share their continent with them live without complaint. Its cities are few and far between as to not harm the environment around them and the land is speckled with many farms as produce and livestock is Argosh's primary export. The capitol city of Alexiosander is more or less a grand marketplace where few people who are not shop-owners actually live that surrounds a mighty marble obelisk that acts as the home to the ruling family of Argosh.
The Continent of Zimmera, Kingdom of Shard
Zimmera is a very tropical climate, warm and humid but yet lush all the same where many exotic trees and fruits flourish near the shores. The people here live as islanders would, surviving off of the waters around this smaller continent where fish are plentiful and as such, most of towns and cities here are near the shores. The kingdom of Shard is more of a counsel of various tribal leaders who have banded together to better their commerce and trade with the rest of the world. they do not have a true capitol city but rather meet in predetermined locations to discuss the future of their continent. Zimmera's primary export is exotic fruits and fish.
The Continent of Ra'an, Kingdom of Baltha
Ra'an is a land of deserts as far as the eye can see, speckled sparsely with various small oasis where the land tends to be exceptionally fertile and where many farming communities have flourished around. The lands themselves are very rich with minerals such as metals and precious gems and as such, mining is a very lucrative business here. Its cities have sprout up wherever there is large veins of ore or gem and the capitol city, Glitterholm, exists at the very center of the continent to make for easy travel from any of the other cities into this one. Its main export is metals and gems while it keeps anything its farms grow for itself rather than share with the rest of the world.
The Continent of Sabur, Kingdom of The Four
Sabur is a wasteland where little grows, its lands destroyed by dark magics and violent wars that have plagued it ever since the first fallen arrived on this continent and conquered its leaders. There are no cities or villages here, only one great stronghold where all of its citizens live as slaves to The Four Mages that rule over it with iron-fists. This land has no export and it is a great mystery as to how anyone here manages to survive as it does not import from the other continents.

A young girl watched as the winds shook the leaves of a nearby tree, smiling. Her hands seemed to be controlling the winds. Her chestnut hair lay perfectly around her back, but her icy blue eyes didn't match her pretty face. Something moved, and the winds fell along with her hands. She stayed perfectly still, in case she was hearing things. She wasn't. A rabbit jumped out from behind a bush, and she bent down to examine it. It was brown, but had a white patch on her ear. Roxi felt her own ears. A gold ring hung in each ear.

She sat down on the ground and crossed her legs. Only in Argosh, she reckoned, you could get this peace. She smiled, before uncrossing her legs, and leaving the clearing. A soft breeze blew as she left.

“ This constant spellcasting was indeed beginning to take its toll upon Aijua, who had used more of his own essence than he would have liked but there were no corpses within range that he could have borrowed from. The time for fighting was indeed over and Aijua announced this by uttering an incantation that would scab his palms up and seal the injuries away so that they would cease bleeding. With that done, Aijua leapt from the rooftop and more collided with the ground than landed on it. He did not move and it seemed that he may have died upon hitting the street below... ”

Dying was not what she wanted her new mage to do. Frowning disapprovingly, she quickly checked to make sure that the spikes had taken care of the guards who might have seen the jump/fall. Confident she would not be spotted by any figure of something approaching authority for the moment she dashed from behind her slave shield, skidding to a stop beside the collapsed pile of robes and reached down for a shoulder, "Come on before the rest of them catch up." She bounced with impatience, clearly expecting if he was dead he'd get up and run now just out of habit with her encouragement.

“ And suddenly, Aijua was reaching too, grabbing for Keaka's wrist as she reached for his shoulder. Should he have succeeded in this, He'd quickly stand and pull the girl in front of her with two fingers from his other hand pressed against her temple. His eyes would flit around to the crowd that would have no doubt gathered up around the entire scene. To finalize his point and express his desperation to escape, he'd begin shouting to the crowd. "Stand aside or I'll make blood spew from her every hole and kill you all with it!" ”

A squeak escaped when her her wrist was captured by annoyingly strong fingers. After a bit of attempted twisting she gave it up as uselessly painful. His words made her eyes widen and she mumbled, "You better not." Why he'd better not she didn't explain, beyond her rather obvious preference to not be dead. Especially in such an icky way. On the other hand the threat of death would probably keep them from doing anything... right? Maybe she should have just waited for another mage...

“ It was then and only then that Aijua began to creep his way towards a sewer grating. The onlookers happily cleared him and his hostage a path as he made for this means of escaping the prying eyes of witnesses. Upon arriving at his decided location, he'd release his grip on Keaka's wrist though his fingers would remain firmly planted against her temple. "pry up the grating or I make this street into a literal blood bath." ”

The girl allowed herself to be dragged over to the grating, though she didn't think that a sewer was a very auspicious begining to things. After a moment she supposed she was supposed to be the one prying up the grating since he let go of her hand. He could have saved the threat though. She bent slowly to curl her fingers into the grate and mumbled as if to herself, "I like bathing in water, and I'd better get to if we're going down here."

“ This girl was beginning to grind on Aijua's nerves and in fact, seemed to excel at being a complete annoyance. But for the time being, she was his best available means of escaping the streets before more guards and mages showed up to make his day even less entertaining. "As far as you all are concerned, you witnessed us drown in the sewers." Aijua added before giving Keaka's rear a kick to forcefully urge her into the sewer tunnel. Once she had entered, he'd leap down himself... ”

Keaka was indeed staring doubtfully down into the dark hole of the open grate, her expression indicating that she was not at all impressed with this escape plan. Were seers going to be afraid of the smell? She looked up at the curiously watching crowd of mostly slaves and then down again before she got her bottom kicked. Her arms did a classic pinwheel as she tetered on the edge and then there was a splash as his hostage vanished. Having forgotten someone was coming down after her, she was standing there saying, "Ew, ew, ew." Couldn't they have climbed down to the ledge? Naturally the mage's mighty leap ended up with her getting splashed more and she squeaked unhappily, realizing it was probably lucky he didn't land on her and squish her....
