Introduction

The city Nayara has long been a borderland of the Peoples United, a conglomerate of nations on the cusp of a long awaited utopia. The city resides in the mountains, near the flow of global consciousness, yet the Northern border has always been shrouded in a fog so thick even the weather generators cannot blow it back. Since the people of Nayara crossed the mountains, a primitive peoples called the Whisps have emerged from this fog, seeking refuge from the turmoil of living purely off of nature. The road towards assimilation for the Whisps has been long and full of injustices, but now, the Whisps live a more integrated life, some in the heights of Nayara, others in the small borderland city of Ne Win, where the white, ominous fog creeps through the city streets, obscuring the borderland in a heavy haze.

There is no main storyline for this RP, the direction and story will be a result of user interaction, not a main creator. Below are descriptions to assist in this process:

Nayara - Within this highly advanced, cosmopolitan and near-Utopic society, the Whisp refugees live under constant harassment by "nativist" groups and surveillance by the state. Nayara is a city of towers and tentacle-like ‘pipes’ with lit, ornate and colorful flashes. These pipes carry the city’s trash, which leads down into the depths of the city where it is vaporized into a steam that carries back up, polluting the highest parts of the city. All cleaning and household chores are automatic.

There are many districts in this high-rise city, the highest being "The Hole" named so by residents to cynically demean the rapid growth skywards for better and better views, which backfired when the sun’s glare overpowered higher residents (and pollution of steam from below). Once the richest part of the city, The Hole is now scorched w/ cold and abusive sunlight, and was abandoned by the richest residents either when the sun was too annoy/abusive or when the Whisps minorities began moving there, as it offered a spiritual connection to the mountain. In the Hole, all is glitter, flashing lights and neon colors, filling the sky and leaping from the clouds of steam, down to the fog in the valley below. There are everywhere spotlights and pink outfits, musicians, paintings and glass sculptures, girls and guys in underwear offering services to all passerbys.

In lower Nayara, “The Center,” residents casually hook up and shop, constantly, amid the mess of lights and rising steam. While everything in The Hole grabs for attention and distraction, here life is focused, here it doesn’t want your attention, you are not worthy of giving it attention, it moves incapable of being understood by you, insists always on your exclusion and incapability. Everything comes in a ‘pod’ form—seats at restaurants, spots on trains, pews in church, walkways, one is either with business friends or on a cellphone. Difficult to find the entrance to anything.

Culture:
-A Child’s life only begins when they first speak, as language defines their humanity, and they are then taken from the raising-machines into the arms of the family. From then on, each child is considered to be given a fair chance, and the natural progression of life becomes a race to the top.

Technology: Extremely sophisticated, implants are necessary except to religious sects that believe them to be harmful.

Values - It is always better to be 'on the cusp' of something rather than totally in it, a better to be a "plunger" than a "digger" or a "dipper." The worst is a hider.

‘Whisps’ – According to the 2nd History of the Peoples United: "No certain physical trait could be agreed upon to identify them, except that they are too lazy when work needs to be done and too efficient when work is scarce, too spendthrift when it is best to save, and too cheap when it seems for every reason reasonable to buy. Though their color can not be pinned down, whether of the eyes, the hair, the skin, the lips or the palms, one could perhaps identify an overall spectral effect in which, taken as a whole, in all their gradations, nuances and predominating features, points to a darker demeanor. Though even this was suspect when there occurred the discovery of a whisp with all features considerably lighter than our own, but such a seemingly simple breach of logic is easily explained by the best scientists: that for Nayarans, the lighter qualities are predominant upon the horizontal axis of our four-limbed bodies, while for the Whisps, they are lighter vertically but not horizontally, so that their feet and head are easily at times lighter, but when one exposes the limbs upon the horizontal axis, the truth behind the body can be easily distinguished. At any rate, this author never attempted to ask a Whisp to expose his arms and chest so that I could put this theory to the test, and anyway a Whisp is a Whisp, one would be blind not to see the difference.

Slang:
‘niang’ – casual word, ‘just,’ ‘whatever’
'wiser simians' - smart thing, but from an idiot.
'trancin' = 'transcend, transcendental, 'trance' music, high'
‘ugly’ and ‘disease’ are good, sickly good things.
Residents will always using phrase ‘on the cusp.’
'Whisping around" as in, "monkeying around"
