Earth...
...is united, for the first time in history. Despite the efforts of many terrorist groups and rebel governments, the new NATO has spread throughout the world and created the Earth Defense Alliance. The EDA has made it's mission clear: To protect and serve the people of Earth, whether against threats which are foreign or domestic. This revelation, of course, has come after many expeditions to the edge of our solar system. The threat of interplanetary war with a foreign species is more real than ever.

The Net...
...is a new, updated version of the internet. New protocols, security measures, and codes have been put in place to promote the development of a safe, powerful online community. This has spurred the development of new ideas, new creations, and most importantly...new forms of entertainment.

With the development of The Net and modern computers, it is now possible to create virtual worlds that can immerse all five of the user's senses. These games have evolved into everything from actual online sports domes, to war within the safety of one's own home. However, the most thrilling of these new games, if they could be called that, are the fantasy games. Minotaurs, Dragons, and Faeries now exist, and are as real as one could ever perceive them to be. The brain children of writers, poets, and scientists the world over are now being brought to life for the public to see and experience first hand. There is a powerful new set of worlds out there, with exciting possibilities.

The Problem...
...is that there are always criminals. Recently, a world called Aldrea was crafted using this fine technology. This world is beautiful, filled with crowded cities and pristine plains, massive mountains and glistening glaciers, and crazy creatures with the newest artificial intelligence technology. All of this wouldn't be a problem, except the developers came up with a sinister use for this new world. While Aldrea is beautiful, it is a prison. Once one plugs into this world, it seems the only way out is by dying in the game, as you would in real life...and then dying in real life as you exit.

This world is the problem. It is the first stab at a powerful new kind of virus, one that can only be deconstructed from within, one capable of killing mercilessly, and it makes the future look bleak. That is why the EDA Peacekeepers called you, gamer. They called you to bring this new virus to justice, from the inside. Since survival in Aldrea is key to finding the solution, they need the best of the best. They need the hardcore, stay-up-four-days-straight, never sleep, never drop the monster can, RPG gamers that have come to rule this virtual society, and they need them now.
