Introduction
The Golden Realm
For many ages, the land of Hyrule had known peace and prosperity after the creation of the world by the Golden Goddesses; Din, Farore and Nayru. Upon completion of their work in creating the realm of Hyrule, the three goddesses also created a parallel world which they connected to Hyrule which would come to be known in time as the Sacred Realm. And upon completion of their work, the Goddesses departed the world from the point atop the Temple, leaving three golden sacred triangles representing each of their essences behind that combined into a larger triangle that would come to be known in legend as the Triforce. Although the Triforce became the basis of the world's providence, there was an old rhyme that made the Triforce all the more desirable to those who heard it:
In a realm beyond sight,
the sky shines gold, not blue.
There, the Triforce's might,
makes mortal dreams come true.
The Triforce would grant the wishes of he or she who touches it with a wish in his or her heart and would grant nearly unlimited power to he or she that mastered it. If that one who touches the Triforce gains it in its entirety, that one will gain the True Force to govern all. However, there was also another stipulation regarding the Triforce: If the heart of the one who touches it is not balanced between Courage, Wisdom and Power, the Sacred Triangle will split, leaving only one piece for the one who touched the Sacred Triangle representing the force that one most believes in. The two lost parts would be held by two other special people chosen by destiny, who would bear the mark of the Triforce on the backs of their hands. For he or she that holds the completed Triforce, their wish will come true as the Triforce’s might has the power to make mortal dreams come true. So says this legend from the Book of Mudora, a descriptive book of Hyrule’s history put together by the great historian Mudora.
In this book, it is stated that a war of sorts between Ganon's army and the army of Hyrule broke out, presumably years after the Hyrulean Civil War, Ganon learned of the mythical Triforce and began recruiting an army to seize control of Hyrule and steal the sacred relic. Learning of this, the King of Hyrule called upon the Knights of Hyrule and Seven Wise Men to protect the Sacred Realm. To do this, the wise men began searching for a hero to wield the Master Sword and ultimately protect the land of Hyrule. While they were doing this, however, Ganon attacked. The Knights of Hyrule fought him off vigorously, and the Seven Wise Men arrived just in time to finish him off; sealing him in the Dark World, Ganon no longer posed a threat to Hyrule.
Here is the Knights tale…
<- The Imprisoning War ->
In this story, your character can be one of the many Knights of Hyrule. To be a Knight, you must be a Hylian (see below for details on Hylians). These are the people Link is descended from, so you can take it a little overboard… so long as you realize that your character /will die/ by the end of this story. Most of the Knights of Hyrule died defending the castle, but they managed to keep the enemy at bay just long enough for the Sages to seal Ganon in the Sacred Realm.
Getting over that fact. There are a few things I’d like to push past you, that being the play of the game; Realistic combat. There will be blood. There will be decapitations. There will be gruesome gore. This is war. Enemies do not simply disappear after you kill them. That is a game mechanic in the Zelda Games, but it doesn’t /work like that/.
Civilians are allowed. Common foot soldiers are allowed. If you don’t want your character to die, chose this group here, since it is plausible that these would survive the war, as they wouldn’t see so much carnage as the regular army (the Knights). Well, the foot soldiers might. Will, probably. Don’t pick them, actually, that’s about asking to die, innit?
We all know the available races for this, but I’ll state them here to be sure.
Gorons:
"I am one of the Gorons, the stone-eating people who live on Death Mountain."
— Goron
Gorons are physically intimidating, as their height and sheer size are almost double that of an average human, at least in some games. They are presumably silicon-based due to a strict diet of rocks and, possibly as a result, they develop rocky growths on their backs as they age. The apparent immunity to drowning would also stem from this, as the silicate minerals and rocks are extremely common and contain oxygen. Due to their enormous density and weight, likely from high muscle-mass, they are unable to swim, but they do not respire like others do; presumably one who reaches the bottom would be able to make it back out. Some Gorons grow much larger than average, but this is very rare.
Hylians:
The chosen race of the gods, the Hylians are bound to carry out the will of the Golden Goddesses and preside over the other races of Hyrule. This is mainly the reason why the Hylians are for the most part considered superior to other races in Hyrule. Hylians are an elf-like race of people who first established an ordered civilization in Hyrule. Physically, Hylians resemble humans, in which the only difference appearance-wise are their elf-like ears. The Hylians have long, sculpted ears that supposedly enable them to hear special messages. As the chosen people, they are also given unique psychic and magical abilities. This has been demonstrated in several different ways over time.
Zoras:
"The Zoras come from Zora's Domain in northeast Hyrule. An aquatic race, they are longtime allies of Hyrule's Royal Family. I heard that only the Royal Family of Hyrule can enter Zora's Domain..."
— Kaepora Gaebora
While still visibly humanoid in some cases, the Zoras resemble various marine creatures in their body structure. Most of them wear no clothes, but certain members of their species do wear clothing, or, as shown by the Zora guards in Twilight Princess, a helmet that completely encases their head. They are generally covered in silver scales, which give them a pale blue sheen from a distance, and they have dark blue spots on their extremities. Where humans sometimes have long hair, average Zoras have rear-hanging caudal extensions of their heads shaped like the tails of dolphins, perhaps as a cephalic form of dorsal fin. These tails undulate periodically, which gives a Zora's head the unique semblance of a fish.
Kokiri:
"The children of the forest, the Kokiri, live here with me. Each Kokiri has his or her own guardian fairy. However, there is one boy who does not have a fairy..."
— Great Deku Tree
The Kokiri are a cautious, child-like, and secretive race native to Kokiri Forest. The Kokiri believe that they will die if they leave Kokiri Forest, and therefore, they never leave the forest and know nothing about the outside world, only the safe haven that is the Kokiri Forest. They resemble human or hylian children, often with green or blonde hair.
Gerudo:
"Gerudos sometimes come to Hyrule Castle Town to look for boyfriends."
— Gossip Stone
A tribe of thieves that consists entirely of women, save for one man that, according to legend, is born every hundred years, who is destined to become the king of the Gerudo. They have dark tanned skin, golden eyes and red hair. They are known to have relations with Hylian men, with whom they form relationships or simply use for procreation.
Deku:
The Deku are a race of humanoid plant-like beings that often co-exist with other races. Very shy. Unplayable.
Fairy:
Fairies are usually depicted as young women with wings and, sometimes, a wand. They appear in a large variety of sizes, from very large Great Fairies to minute Fairies that appear to be no more than an orb of light and clear insect wings. As shown by these smaller variations and even Great Fairies as they appear, some, if not all Fairies can give off their own light and even change its color if so desired. It seems that Fairies are a species that has evolved beyond any formal government. The closest thing resembling leaders are the Great Fairies and Fairy Queen, who seem to be superior to other Fairies, and more spectacular in appearance.
Humans:
Look in a mirror.
Goblins:
The backbone of Ganon’s dark army, favoring spears over swords. Unplayable.
Sheikah:
"Have you heard the legend of the "Shadow Folk"? They are the Sheikah...the shadows of the Hylians. They say they swore allegiance to the King of Hyrule and guarded the Royal Family..."
— Shikashi
The physical appearance of the Sheikah is similar to that of the Hylians; the only known difference between Hylian and Sheikah biology are their red-colored eyes. It can be presumed that the Sheikah are related or evolved from the Hylian race, due to their distinctive pointed ears and their ability to use magic. Little is known about their lifespan and other details about their lives. There is no statement of there ever being any male Sheikah.
Skull Kid:
"Is this what happens to kids who wander into the forest? It looks like he doesn't like grownups."
— Navi
Skull Kids have bodies made of wood, glowing yellow eyes, and some have a beak instead of a mouth. They also are known for wearing red clothes with straw or feather adornments. Unplayable.
Magic:
Now the good stuff. Magic is present in the Zelda universe. You may have magic, though it is purely 'elemental', if you would, and hard to use. If you’re a Zora, you could say you have the power to call a mist. If you’re a Goron, you could say you can 'smell' the ore in the rocks (Which you eat). If your Kokori, you could seem to 'disappear' from other races if you’re in a wooded area. Hylians have holy-like magic, used to create lights or heal small cuts. Gerudo's can control the wind, creating sandstorms'. Human have no magic whatsoever. They are exactly like us.

Some notes about the Knights of Hyrule:
You are Knights. Not just any Knights: You are the best of the best, leaders, fearless men and women not afraid to stare death in the face on a daily basis. You will give your life for this kingdom. You would give your life for anyone of its civilians. You took oaths, to defend the people of this land, through thick and thin. But you are also mortals. It’s okay to make /some/ mistakes.
Lastly, I'd like to state that we will be starting BEFORE the war actually starts. I'll bold this so people notice it.

Re: [OOC] The Legend of Zelda: The Imprisoning War
<cough>
So I'm triple-posting. Sue me.
I just thought about it, and looked it up, and I think that Ocarina of Time may create /three/ separate time lines; one where everything just doesnt happen, one where Ganon is stopped before he can enact, and the one where Link gets him in the end.
I just frankly don't know. Its all confuzzling, don't you think?
Timelines, bah. All we need to know is this is an event that happens before.
Also, Ganon is not actually present in person; rather he has corrupted the Sacred Land and sends his armies through the corrupted portal. Which I'm guessing is at what was the Temple of Time in Castletown, since that was where it was in Ocarina of Time?
Hrmm. So we may have a start with Castletown's fall? I must research this more.
Cheers, Serly.

Re: [OOC] The Legend of Zelda: The Imprisoning War
To clear up a few things.
The Imprisoning War is something mentioned at the beginning of A Link to the Past, a game I'm sure we all love. The Hyrulean Civil War is something that happened just before the events of Ocarina of Time.
Now, good die-hard fans of Ocarina of Time would know that it actually creates two timelines.
How does it do that, lesser beings might ask?
Well, in the game, there is one ending. But also two. By going forwards in time, and then leaving to his own time, Link created two separate dimensions. One would go on to be destroyed completely by Ganon, that being the one he left, eventually ending in the events we see in Wind Waker.
The other, where we are, ends with the events in Twilight Princess.
But lets not get to far ahead of ourselves.
In the world this is based on, namely the 'child' timeline, Ganon is never truly defeated. He never learns the location of the Triforce. That is... until now.
And so we find ourselves here with this war. Ganon has found out the location, gone and desecrated the sacred Triforce with his wish to rule the galaxy, turning what was once a world of Light into a darker realm. He now seeks control of Hyrule. That is the army we will be facing, and eventually, destroying.
You know, at the cost of our lives.
But some will live, dont worry. Just, you know, not us Knights.
I'm including the Kokiri, Zora, Gorons and other races not actually found in A Link to the Past (except for Zoras, but they show up as fire-ball spewing monsters..) because I want a bit of variety. These races wouldnt have just died off; they are a critical part of the world. And they are present in Twilight Princess, which is technically the future of this timeline.
Anyways, its all confusing but it all makes sense if you get past the confusing bits.
Questions ? Ask away.
