History

Ernest Wilkes was born in a village on the coast mainland Grimnard. His parents were elves from the foreign land of Tearengarde, where they had been persecuted as monotheist heretics among the polytheist elves. In human lands, they happily embraced the more accepting Grimnard culture and gave their son a human name; Ernest, the name of the ship captain who had transported them away from Tearengarde, and Wilkes, after the town they settled in.

As a child, Wilkes spent many hours wandering about the forests of Grimnard, which his Wood Elf parents thought perfectly normal. He became affluent with the flora of Grimnard, and at some point aquired an interest in alchemy. At the age of sixteen, he went to the monostary of Duchran to study alchemy. At twenty-one, he became a paying member of the Alchemists' Guild and opened a shop in Duchran.

Wilkes often felt out of place among the humans of Grimnard, and eventually decided to visit his parent's homeland of Tearengarde. After spending two months there, he returned, but would not discuss his experience with his friends other than saying that he was "disgusted." From then on, he refused to identify himself as an elf.

At last, Ernest Wilkes had found it: the legendary nexus between worlds. He had not expected it to take the form of a seedy-looking bar, but whatevs. The elf's heart raced as he reached out to open the door and go inside. Who knew what would be on the other side of this door? He slowly opened it, and slipped inside. Such wonders he beheld! All manner of beings from every world imaginable! All here, in this bar, sipping ale and getting into pointless fights! Ernest walked up to the bar, clutching his magic staff confidently. "Barkeep!" he shouted.

Ernest Wilkes Ernest glanced over at where a group of people appeared to be preforming some ritual. He sat on a bar stool and watched intently. He came here to gain occult knowledge. Whatever this ceremony was (perhaps an exorcism?) looked worth learning about.

's oversized ears perked up. That knight-looking fellow seemed confident that he could expel the demon from the boy writhing on the floor. Ernest had no use for demons -- but those who possessed the lore to expel them might have other information that would be useful to him.

Ernest Wilkes stood up and walked over to the templar. "Well, I will help. I hate to see an innocent suffer." He held out his hand.

Ernest Wilkes Ernest bowed his head and closed his eyes and followed along as best he could with the knight's prayer. Giovanni spoke in an accent that was strange to him, and he didn't understand ever word, but he got the gist of it: the god they prayed to was an enemy of the demon possessing the boy, and they were attempting to persuade Him to intervene. Sensible enough.

"Amen," mumbled Ernest. He smiled as he saw the boy stop writhing. Sure, he was a sorceror on a quest for power, but it still felt good to help people here and there.

"I must say, stranger, I am impressed," began Ernest. "In my own world, victims of possession are rarely cured without being killed."

"I'll keep that in mind, warrior," said Ernest, "Thanks." Mom? Ernest thought silently. Now that is interesting. "Sorry, uh-" he began, turning to Timothy Callahan. "Did you just say that our friend here is your, uh, mother?"

"Ah, I see," said the elf softly, nodding. Darn, I thought I had a lead there. If she had been his biological mother, and still look so young.... he did not finish his own train of thought. It was pointless. These people could not help him.

Ernest Wilkes quickly stumbled back away from Bumble and Connor. Whatever they were doing, he didnot want a part in it.

rubbed his temples. The noise and smell of the bar was getting on his nerves. He went to a barkeep to ask for a room. The price was hefty, but the elf expected no less from the Legendary Portal Between Every World. He climbed the stairs to the renter rooms and took a rest.
