Description

Jamie is fairly tall at 5’7, with a slight farmer’s tan to her peaches and cream complexion. She has honey brown hair that reaches a few inches past her shoulders, and round aquamarine eyes that are often described as ‘being filled with stars’. Her clothes wouldn’t be called high class, but she’s a skilled enough hand with a needle to fix up the dresses. Now at the age of thirty seven, Jamie has aged, but has always retained a kind of youthful glow about her that has kept her looking young for her years. As her mother Sorcha puts it, graceful ageing runs in the family. The biggest sign of her age, other than her eighteen year old twins, are the maturing of her features, that are much more womanly than her eighteen year old counterpart.

Personality

Jamie is generally a cheerful optimistic soul. She can be quick tempered at times (a trait she supposedly gained from her mother) and doesn’t always think things through being a very ‘live in the moment’ kind of person, but her intentions are generally always good. She has become a much more pragmatic person though after having children, and while she will be the first to admit she's not the perfect mother, she tries very hard to be a good mother for her children. For all her faults, Jaime is an extremely warm hearted person, despite her job (or perhaps because of it) and has found herself to be a somewhat iconic character for the Vinarinni gambleing circuit as a light hearted and charming hostess.

History

Jaime was born in Southern Alabama to a casino queen mother and fairly well off banker father from New York. Her mother, known as the ‘Dice Queen’ to the local casinos in Alabama, fell in love with the mild tempered merchant from New York, Kenneth MacDowell, during his business trip down south (from which he didn’t end up returning), and after much coercion on his part, married him. Using most his savings (resulting in his disinheritance by his parents), he brought a house in southern Alabama to raise the child it was by then obvious they were going to have. The marriage however, was doomed from the start, as Jaime’s mother was the non-commitment type, and before Jaime even turned four, was rumored to be last seen running off with the milkman to New Orleans.

Heart broken, but determined to raise his daughter, Kenneth MacDowell ran a cheerful farm house as well as job on a fishing boat. Jaime spent most her time working on the farm with her black nanny Clarissa, and learned plenty of skills like sewing, cooking, roofing, as well as having a fairly nice right hook from years of playing around with the other boys in the town. Jaime lived this happy life until she was sixteen, when her father was killed in a boating accident, and then was sent to live with her father’s mother (Granny Heather) in New York City.

When she was eighteen, Jamie met and fell head over heels for an enigmatic red headed gambler she knew only as “Cards” and entered into a passionate and complicated relationship that ultimately resulted in his return to Boston, and a heartsick Jamie finding out a month and a half later that she was pregnant. Having children out of wedlock brought about a certain kind of stigma in the neighborhood Jamie lived in, and Jamie learned to simply no longer care much for the opinions of neighbors. She raised her two twins with the help of her grandmother and Mother, who under interesting circumstances she had reunited and reconciled a relationship with, as well as her best friend Jenny who would soon become the New York crime boss known as Madame Vinarinni. She now works, and has been for sometime, as the ‘manager’ of the Vinarinni owned gambling establishments from the higher end ones for richer clientele, to the rougher more bar brawling ones.
