Kane Roth sat rather nonchalantly near the entrance of one of the town's humble chapels, his bulky form hunched over, though if he were either sober or conscious he would admit that it is quite easy to be this calm when you passed out. Whether from the fire-belly or the lack of sleep it didn't much matter, all that did was that the bench felt damn good and he was damn tired. Besides, he was inside the walls, not like anything too bad could happen.

Kane Roth was startled out of his nap rather suddenly by what seemed to be a rather obtrusive splash of light emanating from the gardens attached to the chapel, which lay across the cobblestone street from himself. His head throbbing with the sudden light, he shielding his eyes rather clumsily with his right arm, muttering only the unintelligible noise of "Mah." in response. Soon he reached for the brown, woolen cloak hanging about his shoulders and slipped its hood over his head, tugging on it as he laid down on his side, shielding his eyes from whatever caused the light.

Kane Roth grumbled yet again from underneath the hood of his cloak. He'd figured he'd scored a pretty sweet spot and all, a nice quiet chapel by some serene gardens, not like anyone would disturb him here. Besides, it's not like Slick Nick the Hand would be around these parts, besides, he'd won all the florins he owed him back. Whatever the case, it soon became evident to Roth that this place simply sucked. Flashing lights and random roars, if there was anything this man didn't need right now it was happening in this place, already he'd begun considering heading back to the tavern to relax with a pint and a buxom maid, at least there he'd be safe from distraction.

Rising with little enthusiasm, Kane sat up on the bench for a moment before deciding to stand, striding over to the garden on unsteady legs to investigate the source of his disturbances only to find a rather prim noblewoman and her entourage. No wonder, weird things always happened around their type. But, to be sure of such things he leaned against a nearby column for support and waited, no need to wander back to his bench before finding out what was going down.

Kane Roth could be found in the arboretum, slumped over in a most pitiful fashion with the brown woolen hood of his cloak over his head, as such was his preferred locale for when he was trying to sober up. It seemed that his weekly cycle of working, getting boozed up and running out of money was coming to a close. Sure, being a Knight was good and all, but it didn't exactly bring in the big bucks. Nor did it help with the hangover, all the nagging and pleading... He blinked for a moment, listening to the soft voices of nature, combined with the occasional conversation on the edge of the place, and considered his options; he could go troll the bar for work, but that rarely provided him with the types of jobs he was interested in, and more often than not wound up drinking because of the conversations that took place... but there was also just freelancing. Glorified do-gooding, but some cash is better than none when it comes to getting some drink.

Kane Roth was rather startled by the young woman's sudden appearance, having not paid the footsteps much heed as she approached. Leaning back for a moment, Kane hesitated as he drew back his hood, reluctant to show his face to the sun which the gardens enjoyed. Allowing his hands to rest in his laps, brushing against his flax tunic as they did, he turned his attention to her, offering a warm greeting, if not through squinted eyes, "Greetings. Nice day today... isn't it?" Kane was paying the other man little heed, though he couldn't place the tune that he was humming, figuring him to be simply enjoying the gardens like himself.

Kane Roth nodded and returned with a smile himself, speaking after she had seated herself on one of the garden's walls. "Oh, quite so. I greatly prefer the locale to that of... well. Gambit's." Rubbing his eyes for a moment, he addressed the other issue she mentioned, his smirk still present as he stared at the back of his eyelids, "Not at all. I'm just getting over last night." Blinking several times once he'd finished, he looked to her, curious. "I don't think I caught your name?" It was actually rather pleasant to talk to someone, when no one was yelling in the background.

Kane Roth introduced himself as best he could, pondering her name as he did. "I'm Kane. Not as odd but not really average either." Though his attention was soon divided by another who made his presence known, a tall man with dark features and a rucksack on his back. Gesturing to one of the benches much like the one he found himself on, he invited him to sit, "Please, take a seat. Your name, friend?"

Nodding in thanks, he looked about at the gardens, shifting his gaze slowly as he did. "They're really the only part of the place that I find interesting anymore. More and more I find myself much more suited to the wilds than to this place." Turning back to her, he soon asked, "And what of yourself, Torture?" Smirking at the use of the name, he mentally admitted that the name was rather odd.

"As am I, Reis'tiray, as am I. Can't say I've run into many bards in this city of cities, where do you play?"

It really isn't that much of a leap, he thought to himself, that was the same reason that I come to the place. Perhaps it was just that Kane enjoyed the company of nature, even in the of times from when he boozed it up. "Interesting, though it's no surprise that I haven't heard you there, what with the din of that place." Looking back to Torture, Still an odd name. he spoke, "For such a rowdy city there's barely any work to be had."

"Aye, just last night I went through the last of my pay for the past two weeks." Drawing his lips across his face, he thought on the matter, and came to the conclusion that your money probably went pretty fast when it was all just a booze fund.

Sitting up from his spot on the bench, he rubbed his face once more, his brow wrinkling in thought. Of course, it was nice to have some company here in the gardens, but company didn't exactly buy him some booze... that is, unless they'd a line on something going down. Finishing with his mock grooming, he asked the woman, "This might seem an odd question, but do you know of any work that might be available here in the city?"

The place had changed, that was for sure. The days his parents told him of, where nearly all the city was still forests and farmland, were gone. Smiling to himself, Kane spoke, though not terribly audible, "Well, usually my work involves violence, and my down-time liquor. I doubt that most public institutions would like to take me. Hell, I might try and book passage to some 'primitive' backwater for a while. Besides," he slapped the hilt of the longsword at his hip, "firearms have pretty much neutralized this tool."

Kane Roth shrugged at the notion of teaching, though it was an idea. "I don't know if I'm much of the teaching type. Besides, most people these days prefer eastern blades to these clumsy things." He glanced about as he responded to her quip on the sword, "I've had a bit of experience with it, though I'm no professional."

"Aye, it's a fine blade, but it is simply one among many. It has no weight to it, but... you probably don't want to hear me rant on blades." Dismissing the issue with a wave of his hand, he changed the train of thought, but not by far. "So just what do you do?"

Intriguing, at the very least. She held a purpose to her life that few, especially Kane, lacked, who simply survived on daily or weekly sustenance, with little regard to long term goals. "Well, I would offer you my best wishes for you in your task, but my curiosity is piqued, and I could understand if this would seem odd," he pondered momentarily on whether to ask it or not, and came to the conclusion that anything was better than rotting, sitting around, even without pay, "but might you require any aid?"

Chuckling in reaction, Kane spoke, "Mages are odd birds, but I've no quarrel with them. And yes, I'd like to, for as nice as these gardens are... I can't stand being idle without work or drink." A foreshock of a growl soon wracked Kane's stomach, and another thought was injected into his mind, "All I would ask is every now and then some meager funds for food... and perhaps a bit of hooch."

Kane Roth nodded in appreciation, "You're more than kind, Torture." Still a very odd name. Listening as she finished, he took in what details she could provide, his eyes widening at the mention of the scythe... well, at least as much as they could. "Quite impressive, any ideas on where or when to start, or would you prefer I take another task?"

Interesting, he hadn't heard of this individual, of course, he hadn't heard of a lot of individuals. Wing City was, plainly put, big. Very big. Regardless, he could drop a line out or two, there could only be so many healers named Rahal. "Well, I will do my best, most certainly. We'll eventually track him down, given that he doesn't flee off-world."

"Well, such provides us with an advantage." As she thanked him, he could muster any response save a raised palm and a shake of his head, "It is not a problem, rather I should be thanking you. And I understand, the welfare of those we care for tends to override most other priorities."

Offered a rather odd looking smile as the young woman hugged him, but took it in stride and stood as she offered to show the way to his living quarters. Though the mention of one named War piqued his interest further, if it was in fact a reference to an individual. "War?"
