A benevolent, cautious elf who is skeptical, and sometimes cynical. He serves as Captain of the Watch.
Appearance: The elf stands at a medium height for his race, a normal 6’5” or round-about there. His hair is auburn colored, and is cut to a somewhat short, finger-length. He commonly brushes his hair back, so that it has a slightly ‘spiked’ look, but really looks like the hair is let to do what it wants. He has, on first glance, rich blue eyes. When one takes a closer look, you can notice hints of gray (or grey for you Brits out there. I can’t ever decide which way to spell it...) color intermixed with the deep blue. He has a pronounced nose, and besides that no outstanding facial features. He is usually clean-shaven. He is not bulky or “muscled up,” but has a lean frame. His skin is fair and almost creamy.
Lerix is a benevolent man. His parents raised him to always try to help people who were in need of aid. He took this lesson to heart. He is a skeptical elf, and this causes both problems and good things to happen. He is usually a happy person, and understands that all things have an end. He reveres all forms of life, and attempts to protect everyone. This comes from his magical training and his father’s teachings; they made him realize that, even though death is a natural occurrence, there is so much more for people to live for. He prefers to act within the law, but if necessary to do the right thing will ignore them.
Equipment: Lerix wears comfortable fitting leather armor. His leather armor extends along his torso, abdomen, legs, and along his arms only to the elbow. Under his armor he wears light long sleeve shirts, usually of tan, grey, or some other earthly color, and light trousers of various earthly colors. He wields a rapier, and a dagger, both of which are kept on his belt. Even though he protects against being disarmed, he keeps a knife in his boot just in case he is ever surprised. The rapier is of special make; he had it designed and crafted when he entered into guard duty. The blade is made of an alloy composed of silver and steel. The hilt is intertwined with black steel, and gold steel. The rapier also features a silver and gold hand guard. The rapier has no magical effects, but it is of very fine make. (Gold steel is simply an alloy of gold and steel that gives the steel a bright and partially yellow look. A good offset for the black steel which is merely steel mixed with various materials changing the color black.) When needed, he carries a backpack with various survival items.
Lerix Cleocal was born to a loving family of three: his father, Verin Cleocal; his mother, Sarah Cleocal; and a sister, Isara Cleocal. His mother was the daughter of an elven couple who overly enjoyed humor. One of their ‘jokes’ was naming their own daughter with a human name. The family lived in a small, almost exclusively elvish, town that was located many, many leagues away from Terra Primus to the South. The town, known in common-tongue as Westerwood Point, had everything a thriving town needed: a tavern, known as the Merry Crossroads; a blacksmith who was a friendly, rough fellow who always knew where his anvil and hammer were despite his smithy being an absolute mess; stables ran by a family of halflings, not a mixture of races, but hobbits; several shops; and an inn named the Sleepy Dwarf, which was separate from the tavern. Two forgetful elvish brothers ran the tavern, and the inn. They had planned to build one building, but forgot to include an upstairs in the tavern for the beds, and were forced to build a separate building.
Lerix’s father, Verin, is a long time merchant. But it is only been in recent times that he has began to accumulate wealth. Lerix’s sister was many years older than him, and married before Lerix began his formal training. His mother worked as an ordinary seamstress, and made many of the clothes that were sold in the town where he lived. Lerix lived his youth without much need, as are common amongst elves. He was trained in an understanding of magic, and rudimentary control of it. However, he was always more interested in the blade, and how one could defend yourself with it. Forsaking his magical training, Lerix studied with an elven blademaster for many years. After he received his master’s blessing, and came of age as an elf, Lerix apprenticed under his father as a merchant-in-training.
As a merchant, Lerix travelled with his father on various excursions to a myriad of places. His father dealt mainly in food stuffs, but traded an occasional weapon, or exotic item. Lerix gained a lot of useful information during these travels, and not to mention a sizable number of contacts. During this time, Lerix gained his unique, and successful haggling skills. After assisting his father sell and buy goods, Lerix started off as a merchant on his own. He dealt mainly in tools and other such goods. He was known for selling cheap, but reliable tools to people who needed them. With this reputation, Lerix made several contacts in the blacksmithing field, and especially of several fine weaponsmiths. After gaining a sizable sum of money, he decided that he should attempt something that helped people in more direct ways, than selling cheap goods. He handed his business over to a young elf his father had finished training, and searched about for something that would allow him to help people.
He met a an older male human in a tavern late one evening. As Lerix and the man, now known as Eziak, talked and shared drinks, Eziak informed Lerix that he was a Watchman. This wasn’t the first time Lerix had heard of The Watch. Eziak began explaining what the Watch was. “‘The Watch,’” he said, “is an inter-city organization that supplements local town guards. We supply experienced guardsmen to different cities in order to maintain peace, and cut down on crime. These guardsmen are usually referred to as Watchmen. They do not always remain in one city, and are transferred about in order to keep impartiality and guard against corruption.” He also informed Lerix where to go in case one wanted to join. “The Watch holds its guild hall in Terra Primus,” Eziak explained, ”and the leader is elected every five years by a vote of the Captains of The Watch.” With this new information, Lerix set out for Terra Primus, and once there spoke with the Captains of the Watch. He was accepted into the guild as a Watchman, much to the disdain of his family who wished him to continue helping people by selling cheap goods. With this, he spent a good portion of his money on his rapier, specially crafted by a close friend who happened to be an excellent weaponsmith. Lerix did a round of duty in various cities, both small and as large as Terra Primus.
After serving for many years, he was promoted to a full Captain. With this came great responsibility, for now he would help choose where Watchmen were placed, and vote upon the leader of the guild. He served for several years at his office in Granz, where he oversaw the placement of Watchmen in the Southwestern portion of Aeolus. During the time he has served as a Watchman, Lerix has seen his fair share of fights, arrests, and even deaths on both sides of the law. His skill with a blade, and his cunning have come in great use here. His skeptical outlook on life has saved several of the guards under his command from certain death. But, it has also caused several more villains to escape. Lerix’s sometimes cynical view on people was the main reason the new leader of the guild has requested he be transferred. The place that he is to arrive at is the city of Retha, a city that has refused to have Watchmen placed there for several years. Here, the leader and other captains think that, with Lerix’s cynical view, skepticism, and long experience with the guild, he will be able to assess the situation in Retha, and possibly help the people that live there.
