Mason Giles's Story

# Gambit's Bar, 2010-08-12 00:31:28, as written by Music
Mason Giles was in a rage as he slipped into the bar, anger sparking in his eyes. He sat alone at a bar stool and muttered his drink order to the bartender.

Mason Giles finished his drink in silence, ignoring the vampire-related shenanigans occurring mere feet away. "Bloody vamps..." he muttered darkly, then called over the bartender for his second shot.

He glared sharply at the vampire fixated on Khalek. Whirling on his barstool, he did something that was probably very stupid: tossing his entire shot at the vampiress.

If Mason had not been in such a bad temper, he might have been able to answer the vampiress's question with a touch of humor. Honestly, he didn't know why he'd done that, just that the poor guy who was being threatened probably needed a hand. But as it was, he was pissed. "I don't like you," he said bluntly, his spare hand straying to his sword. This was the dumbest thing he'd done in a very long while.

Nothing could have cheered Mason up as much as did the sight of Khalek knocking the vampiress onto the ground. His face stretched into a smile, which was a strangely unfamiliar gesture for the eighteen-year-old. "What do we do now?" he asked the other man, who obviously had more experience in dealing with his least favorite kind of creature.

Mason called over the tender again. "He said it's on him," Mason said, pointing at Khalek as he spoke victoriously to the vampire. Then he hesitated slightly. "And... get one for him too, I guess." The youth was noticeably inexperienced at the whole "drinking" thing.

Mason Giles shrugged nervously. "Honestly, I don't know what I was doing. I think that was one of the dumbest things I've ever done." He perked up, eager. "I'm Mason."

He sipped at his drink, letting the cold liquid soothe him. "So you're a necromancer, eh? I haven't met many of those."

If Khalek didn't know how to deal with the vampire, then Mason was surely lost. After all, he was just a kid. "Can we kill it?" he asked bluntly, ignoring the piercing glares she was giving him.

"Ah!" Mason yelped as the vampiress jumped on top of him, going straight for the kill. Fortunately, his military reflexes prevented her from sinking her teeth into his neck, but her momentum pushed them both onto the floor in a complete mess.

Mason Giles was powerful, but he had human muscles and human reflexes. After just a few seconds of actually trying to brawl with the vamp, he gave in to his foolish instinct and tried to hold her off by grabbing her face with one hand and her hair with the other. "Help..." he muttered, too tired to cry any louder.

Slowly, as if by miracle, the vampiress began to relax within his grip, almost causing his forearms to slacken once more. Mason sat up straight, gently pushing her off of to one side. "Thanks," he said shakily.

Mason Giles walked into the bar, clearly exhausted after a long day. He looked around, appearing to be avoiding someone - or something. Then, determining that the coast was clear, he trudged up to the bar, almost looking depressed. "Coke, please? Heavy on the caffeine." He wouldn't even be able to do anything until he got some energy - and a soda fix.

Mason, normally exhausted at this time of day, smiled faintly. "Hi there, miss. No, I'm okay. I just finished my training at the military base for the day, so I'm sort of out of it." Not wanting to talk too much about his training, as the mere memories wore him down, he said, "I'm Mason. Who are you?"

Mason Giles looked at Kisa with apprehension. She looked like a normal girl (not as normal as the other girl in the bar, however), but what else could he expect from someone in Gambit's? "What exactly do you mean?" he questioned, his face turning with confusion.

Mason Giles grimaced. Another vampire, and this time his friend wasn't there to help him. "Uh... A, I think." It was the truth. His hand strayed to the sword at his waist. This time, he would be prepared.

Mason Giles did not like the way that the vampiress looked at him, as xenophobic as he was. Not trusting her, he merely nodded greeting. "Mason's my name. Sorry, but I don't think you can have my blood." Unfortunately, he didn't know how to end the conversation, so he only looked awkwardly across the room at the only other seemingly normal human in the place, Mei.

"I'm human," Mason said defensively. "It's probably the stupid military minerals they make me take for my health." Even thinking of the military made him dread returning to the base.

Coward, something in his mind said. It was probably true, but at least he wasn't stupid. He didn't know anything about this vampire. For all he knew, she could be lying; they tended to do that.

Mason Giles was torn; after all, he feared and hated vampires above all other things. He sort of regretted not accepting the energy from the girl Kisa earlier, just because her species - whatever - it was seemed tame in comparison. And the vampiress from before... well, she had been insane, if Khalek was correct...

"Fine, take my blood if you care so much. Unless, of course, those minerals are too much for you." He once again looked at Mei, who had definitely returned his interest. Should he go talk to her?

# Gambit's Bar, 2010-08-20 21:28:31, as written by Music
Mason Giles cocked his head. "Why are you still talking to me if you don't want my..." Just then, Kisa approached and said her bit. Mason immediately felt bad. "Damn... why am I such an asshole?" He looked over at Claire, who seemed a bit skeptical of his presence. "Tell me that, eh. What is it with me and this xenophobia?" It was a bit surreal that he was almost afraid of Claire's answer more than he was of her, since she seemed rather benign.

Just then, Mei approached. "Hi there... uh... hi." He stood there, not sure what to do. He didn't want to offend the only other normal person in the place...
