Personality

Pietro Maximoff's personality is in many ways defined by his speed powers. Even before they manifested, he showed a tendency to live in the fast lane so to speak. He was aggressive at an early age, not taking kindly to authority or any such obstacle that would slow him down. He was never content to just live quietly. He had a powerful desire for new and exciting sensations. It was the only way he felt the world could keep up with him and that helps develop a very rebellious and arrogant persona.

Originally Pietro was arrogant and sarcastic, showing little to no regard for the emotions of others and using whatever people he can get his hands on to achieve his personal goals. Throughout the years, Pietro has learned to be more socially acceptable by operating on several metahuman teams and task forces; though he still retains the arrogance and frequent use of sarcasm. He is capable of love, nobility, loyalty, and selflessness, masking the most intense of his emotions to spare himself from seeming weak, but expressing just enough to draw in a very small circle of friends.

Equipment

Speed Physiology:
Pietro's body is adapted towards the rigors of high-speed running. His cardiovascular and respiratory systems are many times more efficient than those of a normal human being. He metabolizes an estimated 95% of the caloric energy content of foodstuffs (normal humans use about 25%). The chemical processes of Quicksilver's musculature are so highly enhanced that his body does not generate fatigue poisons, the normal by-products of locomotion, which force the body to rest. Rather, his body constantly expels waste products during his accelerated respiration through exhalation. His joints are smoother and lubricated more efficiently than those of a normal human being. His tendons have the tensile strength of spring steel. His bones contain unknown materials significantly more durable than calcium to withstand the dynamic shocks of his feet touching the ground at speeds a human could never achieve or withstand. Quicksilver's practical reaction time is several times faster than a normal human's and the speed at which his brain processes information is heightened to a level commensurate with his bodily speed, enabling him to perceive his surroundings while traveling at high velocities. Quicksilver's lachrymose is more viscous than normal, thus preventing rapid evaporation and replenishment of surface fluids on his eyeballs under the influence of high wind velocity to occlude his vision.

Superhuman Speed:
He was originally capable of running faster than the speed of sound (770 miles per hour). He had sufficient energy reserves that enabled him to run at this average speed for an unknown amount of hours before reducing his speed to replenish his body's store of energy. Quicksilver has used his powers of acceleration for various feats. He has plucked an arrow out of the air from a standing start, and has dodged machine gun fire. He has created cyclone-like gusts of wind, which are able to knock a man off his feet. He is able to run across the Atlantic Ocean and to oversea continents without having to stop, run up the sides of buildings effortlessly, and also seems able to use some type of energy, comparing it to "his father's power". After being captured by the High Evolutionary, where his powers were upgraded by Isotope E, his speeds have been increased until he was capable of reaching high supersonic speeds up to at least Mach 4 (3,080 miles per hour), the true extent of his new speeds are unknown, though he has been observed outrunning Thor's lightning bolts, running from Tibet to Indonesia in a few seconds, and covering half the Earth's distance in 92 seconds. No explanation has been given yet for his recent increase in speed. Quicksilver is also immune to the effects of friction, reduced oxygen up to a point where a human can no longer breathe, and impact upon his body while moving at super-speeds. He has traveled around the world by running on top of the ocean water and even ran all the way up Mount Everest without slowing down and went flying above cloud level as a result. He has recently shown the ability to shift his molecules through solid objects, and transport people at speeds greater than the speed of sound without injuring them.

With the application of the Terrigen Crystals, Pietro is capable of moving at speeds that exceed Mach 10(7,680 miles per hour), though he limits himself to this speed since anything faster would be catastrophic to the environment.

Molecular Destabilization:
Through the course of his life as a mutant, his super speed has granted him numerous abilities. One of the very peculiar ones was being able to vibrate his molecular structure at high speeds. He has demonstrated the full effect which enables him to destabilize atomic matter by accelerating its molecules often causing it to fall apart or explode usually by touching it.

Superhuman Strength:
Pietro possesses superhuman strength in his lower body as part of his body's adaptations for running. With his upper body he can lift (press) approximately 1000 pounds while his legs can press approximately 1 ton under optimal conditions.

Enhanced Durability:
He is capable of resisting tremendous impact forces that could easily crush and kill a human without suffering any serious external or internal injuries.

Pre-molecular Chronokinesis:
Pietro has the power to vibrate his atoms so quickly he travels forward in time. His molecular speed that he generates displaces him out of the mainstream time/space so that he can propel himself into the future. He can leap from an hour to up to twelve days, and remain for several minutes to several hours before being recalled to his present time once his body tires, or he can return at will before his time is up. As he returns from his trip, he returns the exact moment he left so as to appear that he had been gone for half a nanosecond. He is able to bring inorganic objects from the future back to his correct time, although it is not known what would happen if he attempted to bring organic objects with him. Using this power frequently seems to have a negative effect on his health, prolonged use can kill him.

Temporal Duplication: By leaping only mere seconds in time, he learned to create an indefinite number of "temporal dupes" that could be controlled with a certain amount of coordination.

After spending weeks in the presence of the stolen Terrigen crystals, relying solely upon them for sustenance, Pietro transformed even further. He was able to make greater leaps into the future. Moreover, Terrigen crystal formations started to grow out of his body.

Powers Gained Through constant exposure to Terrigen Crystals

Decelerated Aging

Speed Share[Locked]: The ability to 'lend' velocity to people are objects of his choice.

Speed steal[Locked]: He is able to "steal" speed and/or momentum from anyone or anything. Also can steal speed from bullets and other fast moving objects thrown at him or at others.

Protective Aura: Pietro's body is surrounded by an invisible aura. This aura protects him and anyone who is running with him or carried by him, from the effects of using his speed. This includes friction and airborne particulate matter. It also protects him from injury from high speed impacts such as punches he delivers and receives from his opponents. With this aura, he is able to absorb kinetic energy.

Quick Intellect:
Pietro is able to think at great speeds, contrary to his impulsiveness. Because Quicksilver has a high speed of perception, telepaths often have difficulty using their abilities against him.

Skilled Combatant:
He has been trained in martial arts and other forms of combat by Captain America making him an excellent fighter.

History

Pietro Maximoff was the son of the mutant called Magneto and the gypsy named Magda. Just prior to Pietro's birth, Magda fled from Magneto, terrified of the bizarre powers he suddenly manifested and his intentions of world domination. Seeking refuge in the scientific citadel of Wundagore in the Balkan Mountains of the tiny European nation of Transia, Magda was taken in by Bova, a humanoid cow evolved by the genetic engineer called the High Evolutionary. Magda gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, with Bova as her midwife, and named them Wanda and Pietro. Still afraid that her husband might find her and learn of the children, Magda left Bova a note explaining her fears and walked into the frozen mountain wilderness to perish.
Feeling that it was not right to raise two seemingly normal babies amid the evolved animal-men of Wundagore, Bova was relieved when, several nights later, an American couple, Robert and Madeline Frank, also came to Wundagore seeking assistance. The Franks were former super heroes active during World War II known as the Whizzer and Miss America; Madeline was now pregnant and about to give birth. Bova intended to give the couple the days-old twins to raise along with their own newborn. Unfortunately, the couple's child was stillborn and Madeline died from complications in giving birth. Bova presented Robert Frank with the twins, claiming they were his own natural children, in the hope that it would assuage his grief. Instead, Frank fled from Wundagore upon hearing of his wife's death, nearly insane with grief. (Years later, the children would come to believe for a time that Frank was their natural father).

Bova then presented the twins to her master, the High Evolutionary, who agreed to find foster human parents for them. He chose Django and Marya Maximoff, a gypsy couple camped nearby who had lost their own twin children, Ana and Mateo, during World War II. The Maximoffs accepted the strange gifts from the High Evolutionary and cared for the children as if they were their own. (Years later, the aging Django would mistakenly believe that Wanda and Pietro were his natural children Ana and Mateo).
As adolescents, Wanda and Pietro discovered that they had unusual superhuman abilities. When Django began to steal food to feed his starving family, enraged villagers attacked the gypsy camp. Using his phenomenal speed, Pietro fled from the camp with his sister. The circumstances of their separation from their family were so traumatic that not until well into adulthood could they remember anything but the barest details of their childhood. For the next few years Wanda and Pietro wandered central Europe, living off the land.

One day, Wanda accidentally caused a house to burst into flame through her hex powers, which she could not yet control. Superstitious townspeople began chasing her, thinking she was a witch. Despite Pietro's attempt to defend her, they were soon overpowered and were about to become victims of mob violence when Magneto came to their rescue[1]. Unaware that he was their natural father, Magneto pressed them into service in his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, costumed them, and named them the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. For months they served Magneto out of a sense of obligation and fear of his reprisal. As members of the Brotherhood, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch aided Magneto in his terrorist campaigns against humanity and helped him combat the original members of the X-Men[2][3]. Magneto did not realize Wanda and Pietro were his children, nor did they know he was their father.
When Magneto was defeated by the overwhelming powers of the alien Stranger, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch quit the Brotherhood; the Stranger transported Magneto away from Earth, and the Maximoff twins returned to Transia.

Pietro and Wanda sought refuge with the Avengers, a world-renowned team of super heroes. They were inducted along with Hawkeye to take the place of the charter members, who wished to take a leave of absence[4]. This foursome was nicknamed "Cap's Kooky Quartet". At first it was looked upon as less capable than the previous roster, but defeating Kang the Conqueror[5], Doctor Doom, and other threats quickly proved their worth. Although the hot-tempered Quicksilver and Hawkeye often both rebelled against his orders, Avengers leader Captain America molded them into valuable team members.

A loud skidding noise could be heard outside the bar, followed by the sudden trigger of a car's alarm when Pietro slammed into it. Seconds later, the metahuman Quicksilver stepped into the bar. He was brushing speckles of paint and car pieces off his clothes while he walked in. Pietro was wearing his casual clothes, which consisted of simple khaki pants, a gray shirt, a black zip-up jacket and matching shoes.

"What is that god-awful smell.." He said to himself once inside, scanning the interior of the bar for the source of the foul sulfur odor. His eyes fell on Kurt, inciting a sigh. "Of course.."

Pietro chuckled upon hearing Kurt's remark, "Well yes, but your teleportation would make things interesting."

He leaned over in his chair to grab a nearby menu and unfolded it quickly before addressing his second and third question. "Well you see, through some detective work I've come to realize that this world, whatever it is called; is connected to all others through a series of random doorways."

"I'm being chased by a horde of sentinels one day, step into what I thought to be an abandoned warehouse, and boom! I end up here. As for the reverse aging dilemma, I have no idea." After he finished speaking, Pietro tapped the holographic menu on the table-top a few times to order his desired meal.

"Tis the danger of teleportation, never know where you're going to end up or what places you go through to get there." He shrugged while waiting for his baked salmon to be brought to him. "So, how does it feel to be in the late stages of puberty again?" Pietro chuckled, "And did your powers get a downgrade as well? Since your body is no longer in its prime."

"Well," He said while clenching and opening his hands, "Since the incident with the Terrigen Mists, I'm stronger and faster than I've ever been before."

Pietro nodded in thanks to the waitress when a large platter of various foods was brought over him, sliding a few bills to her to cover the cost. He began to scarf down the food at a blur, knowing it would only be like an appetizer because of his superhuman metabolism.

"So..since I'm feeling generous.." He said in between chews, "How's about getting your powers restored and then some?"

"Nothing now, but I may need to call upon your services later on down the line." He said with a booming belch, followed by him waving to the waitress for a second round. "You see I like this world, there is no prejudice against mutants here. I intend to make the best of it."

He picked up a napkin and wiped his face of any crumbs and food sauce that dirtied it. It was then that he noticed Cryoface, prompting him to chuckle uncontrollably. "Who knew, Frosty does exist."

"Sure, this place is getting boring anyway." Pietro shrugged, then lifted the second platter of food into the air. "Where to Kurt?" He hoped he'd choose somewhere with lots of room for sprints.

"Sounds like a plan, see you there." Pietro gave a quick wave, then vanished from sight, leaving a visible trail of the color's that made up his clothes behind him. The last thing that could be heard was the door closing behind him.

Pietro Maximoff arrived at the Dojo mere moments after his initial departure from Gambit's Bar. He enjoyed short bursts like that, it gave every portion of his body a quick supercharge. Once there, he leaned against the exterior of the building while waiting for Kurt to arrive.

Pietro shook his head, "Not really, but my perception of time is different from everyone else's." The Silver-haired Speedster turned around, pushed the large doors to the dojo open, and headed inside.

"Trust me, some of the things on this planet make us look like the humans of our world." He said, "Everyone is given an equal opportunity here."

Well.. that was surprising. Of all the people to wind up here he didn't expect it to be Gambit. "Well, I wasn't expecting that." He replied, "How is ol' Gambit nowadays?" Well this explained why he suddenly went missing during the Mutant Hunts, everyone thought he died.

Pietro was somewhat relieved, Remy was one of the few people that he actually considered worthy of being called a friend.

In midst of the rising tension between the two patrons, Pietro managed to slip into the bar. In his hand he held a small rectangular device with a glowing screen, which uttered a beep with rapid repetition now that he was in close proximity to another mutant.

Once inside, the little gadget erected a holographic arrow which pointed directly at Ivanna. He tucked it into his pocket, and leaned against the nearest wall with his arms folded in front of his chest. The speedster kept an observant eye on the woman, and the man he was fighting. For now.. he would just watch.

"Oooh.." Said Pietro as he winced comically as the table leg pierced the woman's chest, though it didn't appear to last long. A healer? This could be interesting.. He thought to himself. He wondered what other powers she had at her disposal.

Pietro blurred to his right, avoiding some of the debris kicked up by the ongoing fight and putting himself closer to the bar. "That's a shame." He said as he peeked behind the counter-top only to see the now deceased bartender sprawled out on the floor.

After hopping behind the counter and heading over to the mini-fridge, he fetched himself a jar full of strawberries before turning back to the quarrel.

Pietro Maximoff turned his head to Miku when she hopped onto the counter, quirking a brow at her cat-like mannerisms. "It's not stealing, I was going to fully compensate for the strawberries." He replied before popping one the vermilion fruits into his mouth, savoring the sweet juices which seeped out when he sunk his molars into it.

"Not like I have to explain myself to a child." He chuckled lightly, pushing a few more strawberries into his mouth before fixing his gaze back on Ivanna and Ragna. It didn't look like he was doing so well.

"Excuse me." With that, Pietro was up and over the counter in a flash; then suddenly standing just to the left of Ivanna, standing between her and her now popsicle of an opponent. "I think that's enough, I think the humiliation of being bested by a woman is enough for him." Oh how arrogant he was.

"Guess not, then." He shrugged lightly before moving back to his previous position in a burst of speed, which put him right next to Cain. Pietro leaned his back against the wooden counter and ate a few more strawberries. He figured he would just wait for one of the combatants to get tired.

Pietro took a nearby spoon and placed it into the jaw of strawberries, using his super-speed to essentially blend the fruits into a fine juice; which he then sipped a few times. "Needs sugar."

"I planned on saying the exact same thing, there are bigger things out there than petty bar fights." Said Pietro, having to raise his voice to exceed the volume level in the bar; what with the fighting, shouting, and energy attacks.

Pietro Maximoff kept his eyes on the man that attempted to intervene. He seemed to be recruiting supernaturals, but for what purpose? Perhaps he could use this man to further his own goals involving the supernatural community. He stepped over to Cain and the downed mutant, shaking his head in disappointment. "Everything was in her favor, but she let her anger get the best of her. It's a shame to see my people act in such manners." He said to the man beside him, his gaze fixated on Ivanna.

He then heard the status update about the quarantine at a place called Verinotte Hollow.. prompting him to make a mental note of the name. There would without a doubt be mutants there, mutants capable of being recruited.

"I'm glad." He replied with a smirk of his own. "My question is, why did you kill him in the first place?" Pietro asked, "I'm sure he had done nothing to provoke such barbaric behavior." He had a problem with talking down to people, it was in his nature.

Pietro reached into his pocket and pulled out the small device from earlier, holding it up so that the back was facing Ivanna. It beeped a few times, then a horizontal pillar of light shined from the small camera-like piece, scanning the woman from head to toe as she recovered. After the scan was completed, the light retracted back into the device.

After reading the information that popped up on the screen, Pietro tucked it back into his pocket. "It seems you are an Artificial Mutant, interesting." He said.

"Please," He scoffed, "You couldn't lay a finger on me, let alone decapitate me." Oh how he loved being a Speedster, there were very few individuals who could keep up with him, especially now that his powers got a permanent supercharge due to the Terrigen mists.

Pietro then turned his head to Cain as he prepared to leave. The Aschen.. he heard of them before, some empire that's been controlling this planet for a while now. "You have a contact card or something? Going to be difficult to find you if I don't know your name." He replied.
