River Arrowheart's Story

# Gambit's Bar, 2009-10-17 21:05:29, as written by Riverstyx777
River Arrowheart drifts in through the alley door, a peculiar smile playing across his face. A wink of a particularly icy blue eye at several patrons, and a tip of the hat, before he traipsed over to the bar itself, taking a seat. "A spot o' whiskey, my friend, if you please," the pirate said, tapping the hilt of his sabre casually. It was not a threat to anyone at all, just something for him to do with his hand.

River Arrowheart takes a deep swig, then turns to the winged girl pointing at him. "Excuse me, Miss?" His eyebrow quirked, he stared at the woman strangely, an equally strange smile playing across his face. "You are talking to me?" Laughing slightly, he takes another swig of his whiskey, this time finishing it.

River Arrowheart merely laughed at the 'weirdo' remark, staring through his glass at the man who made the comment. "Mate, weird I may be. Predictable, I am not," he muttered coolly, launching the whiskey glass at Jasericholas' face. Without another moment's hesitation, he leapt forward, drawing his sabre at the last moment and placing it on the man's throat. "And Miss, I am River Arrowheart, at your service."

River Arrowheart chuckled deeply, and removed the sabre from the man's throat, not caring how rough he was. Sliding the sabre back into its sheath on his right hip, he turned to the winged girl once more. "I'm sorry, Miss, I don't seem to know your name," River's voice was calm, gentle, as if randomly threatening people was normal. Indeed, that self-same trademark crooked smile played across his pale face once more.

River Arrowheart grasped the girl's hand gently and politely, and his smile seemed to widen even more. "Aye, 'tis a shame that most take life so seriously. Me, I don't really give a shit what happens to me, as long as I'm ready to handle it..." He trails off, opting to watch the small scuffle that seemed to have broken out.

((If that isn't god-mod, I dunno what is...))

River Arrowheart laughed pieces of the ricochet bounced harmlessly off his trenchcoat, having lost much of their force after ricocheting. He slid his pistol from its place in his belt on his left hip, and spun it nonchalantly in his left-hand. "Heh, I prefer to use blades, but I do have this."

River Arrowheart spins the pistol once more, then slides it back into his belt. Smiling as he stared down at Skyler, he chuckled a bit more. "Yes, Miss, something like that."

River Arrowheart smiled a bit more at the salute. Her words embarrassed him slightly, but he played it off with another laugh as he sat back down at the bar. "Why would you worry about lil ol' me? I am naught but a stinking pirate, worthy of nothing more than a slit throat and a pistol ball to the head..."

River Arrowheart laughed and slapped the bar. "Another whiskey, if you please," he spoke loudly, before turning to Skyler and dropping his voice a little. "Well, now, lass. I en't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, but I still notice things. You do worry, beneath that hardcore facade."

River Arrowheart kept his smile, although the rest of his face became softer. "Aye, lass, I know exactly what you mean," his voice even grew softer, the years spent at sea seeming to melt off his face. What remained on that pale face was the look of a seventeen year-old boy who felt lost at being an adult. "Sometimes, I dunno what it is to be human, though..."

River Arrowheart smiled a bit more, though the lost look remained on his face. "Me? More than human? That is almost laughable, Miss," he began, sighing slightly. "I don't think anyone who hasn't experienced long, agonizing months at sea would understand what it is like to someone who hates it and loves it so much..."

River Arrowheart laughs slightly as he leaps to the nearest bit of ruin nearest to Skyler within reach. "It's nice out here, I'm glad you dragged me from that bar," he started again, sighing a bit more. "Do you understand what it is to love the sea, yet hate it at the same time? Do you know what it is like to become less than a human, and slay others without hesitation or worry for your own existence?"

[[Yes, he is a bit bi-polar.]]

River Arrowheart allowed her to help him up to the top of the ruin. Noticing her shiver a bit, he slid off his trench coat without another thought, and wrapped it around her shoulders. "I think you need that more than I do," he smiled down at her, although his face remained clouded with torment. "Maybe we are not so unlike, after all, Skyler." Another smile played across his face, as the cloudiness lessened, and he addressed Skyler by her name for once.

River Arrowheart stared out over the ruins, his smile seeming to broaden. As the breeze picked up, he didn't seem to notice. "Fate? Fate has nothing to do with this... It's chance, and the individual's own volition that makes anything happen. I could have continued drinking myself into a stupor, ignoring you and your friend's comments, but I chose to respond," he said softly, finally turning back to face her, his face much lighter, and this time, it was that of a seventeen year old. "I don't normally get so down on myself though... Maybe it is because I don't have time to think."

River Arrowheart stepped forward slightly, not quite understanding what she meant. "What do you mean, I wanted to be seen?"

River Arrowheart smiled a little more, staring down at her with his icy blue eyes. "I guess it was because I truly did care what people thought of me, why I acted so indifferent. But my actions were my own, not for anybody but myself."

River Arrowheart continued to smile, despite the countless emotions murloining within him. After many years of introversion, all it took was this little girl and her similar problems to help him become himself once more. "Well, milady, our situation is that simple thing we call life, an embodiment of all psychotics and crazy. I dunno why it happens, but if we don't use it to better ourselves, then who are we to complain when we die a sad life?"

River Arrowheart reached down and stroked her pale cheek, ever so lightly. This was all overwhelming for him, doing what he was. A tiny voice in the back of his head was telling him to stop, that he'd only be let down once more. He ignored it, and he leaned down so his face was level with hers. It was a wonder he didn't just pass out from the amount of butterflies in his stomach, and it was also a wonder that he wasn't visibly shaking. "I think the use of said encounter is to take it as far as we can with happiness..."
