Name: Sanina Lessard
Age: Appears 20
Height: 5'5
Weight: 130lb.
Race: Human
Species: Vampire

Sanina was once a woman of beauty, and some might still think her it if they looked past the insanity in her eyes, and the stench of decay that clings to her form. She has a pale complexion, befitting one who sees very little sunlight, crimson eyes and long black hair. She is often well dressed and leans towards old fashioned styles of gowns and dresses. At her throat she wears a silver cross.

Sanina is cunning and cautious by nature, and rarely will she take part in a physical conflict. Her less than socially acceptable behaviors she keeps to dark alleys or behind closed doors. Her personality can be variable depending on her current level of lucidity and awareness, anywhere from whimsical and motherly to viciously violent and cruel.

Her history prior to her family's arrival in Wing City is a matter of speculation, and should one ask into it she'll probably just lie. That and her perception of actual history is skewed. Insanity can make remembering pesky historical details quite troublesome.

  • Shape shifter: Sanina can assume the shape of either a wolf or a bat, as well as a hybrid bat form, complete with wings.
  • Hypnosis: With direct eye contact, Sanina can lull a victim into a state of passiveness.
  • Seers vision: Sanina is a seer. This is a passive ability, and not one she can call at will, though it grants her visions of the future. Due to the future being an ever changing place, these visions are often vague, and can take time and effort to properly interpret.
  • Raise Dead: Raises the deceased body of a creature into a zombie or skeleton. Can be adapted to create wraiths and ghosts in instances where the soul failed to move on after death.
  • Control Undead: Seize control over an undead creature. The stronger the will power of her target, the harder it is, though physical contact or access to the victims blood increases the potency of the spell.
  • Ghoul Touch: The ability to inflict localized paralysis and decay with hand contact.
  • Drain Life: This ability to drain the life from a living target or object through maintained contact.

Sanina has a large number of undead minions at her disposal. Most are simply your traditional skeletons and zombies, though she has a knack for creating hybrids, in which she summons forth demonic entities to possess her creations, which remain thoroughly bound under her control through their undead nature.

  • Zombie Wolves: Her undead wolf pack numbers at about thirty.
  • Pack leader - Wulfric: Wulfric is a demon hybrid, and he serves as pack leader over the zombie wolves, granting a sapient head to unify their numbers and to keep the pack acting as a cooperative unit without Sanina's direct attention. This allows the pack far more efficiency in a group than the mindless undead would normally be capable of, without Sanina needing to tax herself to direct them individually. Anyone attempting to wrest control of the wolves needs to overcome both Wulfric, and Sanina's control simultaneously, making it a difficult process. Wulfric's abilities are very much an extension of Sanina's own, and his necrotic bite inflicts her ghoul rot affliction – localized paralysis and decaying of the flesh.
  • Dire bear - Ursa: Ursa is a demon hybrid and for all intents and purposes, the tank of the lot. Ursa relies on brute strength in combat, lacking any magical or demonic abilities offensively, though its undead nature, and regenerative qualities make it very resilient to absorbing damage.
  • Demon cat - Scamp: Scamp is a demon hybrid best suited for ambush tactics. A permanent displacement effect over Scamp leaves him always appearing to be standing approximately two feet from where he actually is. Scamp can breath an all consuming demonic hellfire, as well as travel in and out of the infernal plane through fire.
  • Bat swarm: As individuals her undead bats are likely the weakest of her numbers, though in groups they can create a great deal of chaos. The swarm sits at about two-hundred strong.
  • Raven - Carrion: Carrion is Sanina's eyes and ears, lurking and spying where Sanina could not otherwise go.
  • Zombie Kitten - Patches: Does this one really warrant an explanation?

So begins...

"For a time," Sanina replied whimsically. "Did you mourn?" she asked with a thoughtful tilt of her head.

It was difficult to say what had driven the rift between them all those years ago. Sanina was adept at looking into the future, but the past remained lost to her.

She sighed.

"I need to get to Issunar... I need your help."

Casper pointedly ignored her question this time. He moved away from her and swiped his drink up from his desk, swirling the wine methodically around the rim of his glass.

"Need my help?" Casper almost sounded amused, "that's curious." He assumed a seat in a nearby armchair. "I would have assumed that a woman of your..." His pale lips quirked briefly into a grin. "...capabilities... would have no trouble procuring passage between continents." A dry, cold chuckle escaped his throat. "What's happened, matron? Has the Lessard family fallen into hard times?"

"My father's dead," Sanina replied quietly.

Vincent Lessard had been the one responsible for leading his family from Issunar, to their new home in Wing City, and he had served as Patriarch of the family.

"Kyle's dead. The children are dead or missing... the manor's gone..."

Her voice was uncharacteristically lucid in that moment.

"They were your family too, Casper."

Casper's grin disappeared in an instant. His eyes paled over and he looked away from Sanina towards the floor.

"I am..." he swallowed, "...sorry to hear that." Something ripe and human tugged at his voice. His brows set deep into his forehead and his jaw, for one single moment, trembled.

He swiftly swept his drink back to his lips and drank deep. When his glass came down he was restored to his usual melancholy. "Yes, I'm sorry to hear that." He nodded. "But I will not-" He shook his head. "-CANNOT help you. I live a very different life than what you remember. Smuggling you to Issunar would pose certain substantial risks to my person and my career." He shook his head. "I can't afford those risks. Not now." He nodded coldly. "I'm sorry Sanina. There's nothing I can do for you."

"Do you remember when we were children, in Lutetia?" Sanina asked. Her father, Vincent, had been more of a father to Casper than his own had ever been.

She returned to Riaze's side and seated herself on the edge of the sofa next to him.

"My father's dead, but I can keep his legacy alive... but I need this-" she hesitated at the various words that came to mind before finally settling on his name. "Riaze. He's important."

There was something almost akin to compassion in her eyes when she looked at the slumbering werewolf. Granted it was the same look one might have for a stray dog that they had brought home.

She lay down next to Riaze, a fact he likely would be none too pleased with when he roused. She had haunted his sleeping hours for nearly a year now, but waking up smelling of vampire was something he hadn't yet endured.

She made no further plea of aid from Casper, seemingly content to let him stew over his own thoughts for the time being.

"Of course I remember," Casper said quietly. His childhood in Issunar held many happy memories - filled with love, unity and familial affection between himself and his various cousins and uncles. He recalled his time spent with Sanina - how they would explore the city together after breakfast and (often against the wishes of their parents) the dark forests to the south of the town walls. He recalled as well the many hours spent in the care of Vincent Lessard - even as a boy his uncle cared for and mentored him as if he were his own son, giving him all the guidance and empathy that Casper had so craved to receive from his own father.

Sanina's point had come in loud and clear - Casper owed much to Vincent. He owed much to his family.
Whether he involved himself in their affairs now or no, surely he could at least do Sanina this small favor...?

He turned silently towards her, his brows knit tightly together in an expression that Sanina would be familiar with - the begrudgingly humble face Casper always made when he was about to admit someone else was right - when he looked at Sanina cuddling affectionately up to Raize on his sofa. The sight banished all compassion from his features. An inexplicable rage suddenly overtook him.

"I will..." his jaw grit. His fangs slid seamlessly out of his gums. He drew a quick, ragged breath and barely kept his anger from entering his voice. "I will not help you, Sanina Lessard. I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do for you." He turned from her towards a nearby door.

"I want him gone by morning," he said plainly as he moved, "both of you. Gone by morning." He opened the door and would step quickly inside if unhindered.

The next morning, Riaze cracked his lone eye open, freezing as he failed to recognize his surroundings. A groan escaped him as the throbbing aches of yesterday's wounds made themselves felt, gritting his teeth as he shifted. Only to find something draped around him. The sensation of necrosis prickled his flesh, and he rolled from the couch, grunting as he hit the floor. The face he saw invoked equal measures of loathing and grudging appreciation, but the lycan checked his actions as he looked to himself.

Where silver had torn holes through him, there were mostly healed scabs, a phenomenon unheard of in most of his kind. That he was still standing was a testament to the resilience that the Nightroads had bred for. Actual, restful slumber had aided in that healing, though he still felt exhausted, weak. Used.

He glared at Sanina a moment, before taking stock of his surroundings once again.

Sanina didn't need to sleep, nor had she since the night she had been turned those many years ago, but she could pass the hours in a near sleep like state. It was more of a trance than true sleep, where her gift as a seer could roam freely. Reading into the future was a path not easily followed, and some had oft speculated that Sanina's efforts to do so with regularity was one cause of the woman's less than lucid mental state.

Riaze's movements roused her though and when she opened her eyes, they had taken on a milky white hue.

All around her the room swirled hazily as if viewing it through a misty grey veil. She saw Riaze turn towards the sounds of dogs barking before the door splintered open from its frame. They had tracked Riaze to Casper's building. She saw the police start to flood the room, and she saw the explosion of gunfire as Casper entering from the side hall to be caught by a stray bullet.

She sat up slowly, languidly almost, and in that moment she very much reflected the predator that she was beneath that whimsical exterior she so often portrayed.

The moment lasted only a few seconds though as her eyes bled back to their usual crimson state. There was no one in the room but her and Riaze.

"We must go," she told him.

Casper's refusal to assist them was a setback, but there were other roads available to them. She offered a hand out to Riaze, an invitation for him to help her to her feet.

"They're coming for you."

Rested and rejuvenated, Sanina had no doubt that Riaze could more than handle the police this time around. But a blood bath was best avoided.

"Who's coming?" Casper appeared at the nearby door, tying the knot off on his silk dressing gown. He walked suspiciously around the couch, glaring daggers at Sanina before giving the now-conscious Riaze a quick once-over. He wrinkled his nose at the pungent scent of werewolf that had infected his living room.

"Casper Lessard," he offered the Nightroad a curt nod, "charmed to meet you, truly." He looked back to Sanina. "Tell me that the police aren't about to storm into my home."

For a moment, Riaze scowled, struggling to remember the events of last night. And in a flash, it all crashed down on him. With a snarl, the lycan rose, disdaining Sanina's offered hand. From the slight gaze he gave at it, it was somewhat clear Riaze might be hesitant to take that touch for some time yet.

"That little bastard." Scowling at the memory of the male vampire, he shook his head. "How soon?"

A glance at Casper, measuring up and down, then slid his gaze away with disinterest. "Riaze."

"Soon... we need to leave now," Sanina told him.

She didn't answer Casper's question, but the look she threw him was almost sympathetic before she rose to her feet and moved to open the front door. She waited for Riaze to follow should he choose to.

"Sanina," Casper reached forward. He would make a grab for her bare hand and turn her towards him, looking her directly in the eye for the first time since she'd arrived. Contrary to the intimacy of his actions, there was nothing but ice in his voice.

"Put me to sleep," he said, "it will help with the police."

Restraining the instinct to put Casper to sleep his way, Riaze rolled his shoulder, looking at Sanina and nodding slightly.

He was ready to leave when she was.

Sanina turned as Casper grabbed for her hand, but her eyes seemed unfocused as if they were staring right through him while he tried to make eye contact. Her free hand moved up to rest against the side of his face, and her expression fell to one of sadness and mourning.

"You've become so lost... you don't even know what you are anymore," she murmured softly.

The spread of necrosis from her touch darkened the skin on the side of his face, but his undead nature and regenerative capabilities would prevent any lasting damage. The skin would likely return to its healthy state once the contact was discontinued.

Despite his intent to cast her out, he was still family, and Sanina never had been much good at refusing her family. She closed her eyes as she began to hum softly, and Casper would feel his anger and animosity fading to a calm complacency as she opened her eyes to meet his own. How could he hold onto his anger with her so close, and with her hands upon his skin... How could he hate her when her gentle melody filled his ears.

He would find himself sinking into the crimson depths of her gaze, until all conscious awareness of his surroundings faded beneath the the sirens call that was the soft lullaby upon her lips.

"You..." Casper's eyes fluttered as Sanina's hypnotic power overcame him. He'd been under her influence before and knew what to expect. "...have no idea..." He felt his posture slipping. His eyes fell from her own to the ripe red curve of her lips. Her words misted into his brain, shutting down his consciousness one light at a time.

"...what I am..."

He surrendered herself to her embrace, a peaceful expression on his face as he fell into her arms.

As he sank to his knees, she knelt with him, pressing her lips to his forehead lightly.

"Rest now... and forget all of this..."

She would guide him to the floor as the hypnotic nature of her humming lulled him into a deep slumber before she rose and moved after Riaze to leave the apartment without a look back.

Following Sanina out of Casper's home, Riaze turned, viewing the door with a sneer. A swift kick hurled the door inward, splintering the frame, snapping a hinge clear, and sending cracks through the panel itself, coming to a kilted stop on the floor, hanging twisted.

Turning back in the vampiress' wake, he walked away.

It had been a long time since Illisius had thought about his friend Vincente who had long since passed. Vincente had supported and accepted Illisuius in his violent days. And felt it only right to do what he could to help his family..

The time came when he fulfilled his debt yet he hadnt heard from anyone since.

He never found the manor unattractive and as he was passing through wing city gardens, he decided hed stop by for a brief moment to view the full extent of a recent fire on the building.

A distinct smell of charred remains, filled the air, as he traipsed down the path and all that was left were the ashes and metal remains of several unsalvagable belongings.

Further walking took him around, what would have been, the back of the manor... it was here he stopped as a small object caught his view

The faint sound of a distant lullaby came to Illisius on the night air, so softly that for a time he couldn't be sure it was real. Should he give pause and listen though, he could distinctly hear the words of it carrying to him from the gardens of the manor grounds. It held an eerie note to it, but at the same time called to him to seek out its source.

"Sleep my child and peace attend thee... All through the night guardian angels God will send thee. All through the night, soft the drowsy hours are creeping, hill and vale in slumber sleeping, I my loving vigil keeping... All through the night."

What should have been a gentle lullaby held a tone of mournful sorrow to it as Sanina sat quietly upon a bench among the dead gardens. Around her the plants had wilted and begun to die as a sickness had taken root in the once green foliage. She didn't look any different than when Illisius had first met her six years ago.

Illisius picked up on the soft sorrowful tone and somehow recognised it. It wasnt as if hed heard it before or recognised the words but the energy or frequency behind it was something known to him.

He turned to face the source, the dim light casting shadows everywhere, making it hard to distinguish shapes or figures.

'Hello?!' he called hesitantly as he cautiously stepped forward a few paces.

He could smell something nearby, a decrepit, rotting odour, it filled his nose so easily, too easily perhaps. He took a moment to desensitise himself to it before a figure emerged on a nearby bench...

A young woman sat there in what looked to be long flamboyant black clothes... two wild eyes were looking in his direction... and a sickly sweet face, pale as the moon itself, glowed in the mildew-laden air....

'Can i help you?' he asked politely still unsure as to the figures identity. His senses had clearly been hindered, whether it was his age, or the fact that he no longer feasted so much on blood, he was still unsure .
