Sera Brenden let her calm, compliant, and pleasant demeanor slip for just a second to expose her fear as she clutched her hand, looking at the scar and the weal of red. Her own fingertips rubbed over the wound before she looked back up to Menax. If she had the capacity to be angry, she might have been in that moment. Instead, she looked perplexed and dismayed--a silent question writ all over her features: Why had he done that to her...?

Moreover, why was he singing like that? What did that question mean?

Here she was, trapped in this booth--the only way out to be to crawl over the back of the booth, under the table, or try to get passed Menax. She bit her lip. Hadn't she walked right into this? Now she was in...possibly deep trouble. The man had been vague about what he was--

Her ears pricked to Ike's screams, immediately banished any concerns for herself. She stood up abruptly--her heart racing and sending the vicious toxin surging through her system... She wanted to help Ike--but soon enough, she would be giddy incapable of really helping anyone...

Sera Brenden hesitated and cast a hard look over at Menax as she stood in the booth still. Then...she suddenly burst into a fit of giggles at what he had said. It was ludicrous, wasn't it, the way that Sera always sought to be helpful to anyone and everyone? Her laughter wasn't so much that it would be heard outside of the booth--Menax would be the only one to see her realize that she was a joke. It took a great deal of effort for her to stifle her amusement as she tilted her head at Menax, a lop-sided grin on her face.

"What have you done to me?" Even though she continued to grin and her tone still held bubbles of laughter, there was still a remote sense of self awareness in her. She took a step toward him, one of her hands reaching to rest on his shoulder. "I can't...I can't figure myself out. My...my avatar...even my avatar is distorted. Can't tell what my pattern looks like..."

She paused, wavering on the spot. "...I might need to sit down." At this, she shook her head in mock woe. "I feel...terrible and wonderful and..." She stared into the single eye, her puzzlement and elation growing as her pupils did.

Sera Brenden pressed her knuckles to the door of Gambits's to push it open. Unfortunately, the door is a pull from the outside... After a few seconds of frowning, the modern-day mage sighed in mild exasperation before she corrected herself and pulled the door open. Hazel eyes swept over the establishment, determining after a few seconds the quickest means to get to the quietest booth. It wasn't that she was antisocial--she had simply learned to fear any contact with most of the patrons here.

With quiet steps and a focused look upon her toes, Sera strode toward one of the booths that lined the left wall of the bar. Settling into one, she turned her attention to the holomenu near the wall. Her fingers stretched beyond the length of long sleeves to delicately move over the display.

At length, Sera made a decision--and shortly, a Bloody Mary would be headed her way. Briefly and quietly she fretted over whether or not she should have ordered a Cosmopolitan--that was what girls ordered, right? This was precisely why she hated going out--she could manage to be socially awkward in her own mind. As she waited for the drink to be automatically dispensed to the port at her table, she laced her fingers together and took another, more concentrated look about the bar. As much a part of the setting as the furniture, she nonetheless noticed a physical conflict. As compassionate as she tended to be--and as much as she winced at the sight of injuries inflicted--she opted to remain excluded. Wing City had swiftly enough taught her that there was no reward for kind intervention...

Instead, an idle curiosity prompted her to stretch her awareness about the bar. Expecting nothing, she bowed her head and expelled a soft purr that seemed to resonate from her chest and throat.
"Zamran." She made an effort to keep question from her tone--she knew that this particular focus required a tone of conviction... With this utterance, she allowed her awareness to wander the bar, sending it out like a meandering hound to sniff at various people and objects to determine--if vaguely--their persuasion. The best she could glean from this was whether or not anyone in the bar was extraordinary at all... It would require more focus to determine who it was.

What messy magic it would be to more self-aware entities; her own naturally curious resonance thrummed through the minor effect.

Sera Brenden blinked once as her wisp of an effect did its work for all of a heartbeat before it was abruptly halted in its tracks. For a long moment--long enough that her cocktail slid from the impersonal port at the end of her table--she puzzled over just how her effect had been canceled, who would have done it, and why... In its cancellation, there had been one thing that Sera had managed to determine before it was snuffed out--there was someone significantly stronger than she present in the bar.

As though to confirm this, a strong whiff of energy--just reeking of blatant resonance--struck her rather pointedly. Being as she wasn't prepared for the effect, the message resounded quite loudly in her mind. Between her own naturally heightened awareness for such things and the fact that Altion's effect practically howled to be traced, her eyes lifted from the table to uncertainly level upon the other mage.

There was more than a hint of hesitation in her. From what she could perceive, he did not seem to be a kind teacher merely wishing to impart his knowledge freely upon the astute... After a few seconds of internal discussion, a woefully inquisitive Sera lifted her Bloody Mary from the table with one hand, clasped the front of her hoodie with the other, and strode across the floor toward Altion's table.

With a gingerly obedient air about her, she sat down in a seat across from him, set her glass down on the table, and stared at him with the faintest frown. Words were caught in her throat for a few seconds before she managed to speak...

"...you wish to teach me?"

Sera Brenden crept reticently through the front doors of Gambit's, opening them only just enough to slip her small form through them before. As she walked toward the booths, her fingers gently tugged at the edges of her long knit sweater--as though she were cold, but the manner only succeeded in making her look uncomfortable. In between brief glances up to make sure she didn't run into people or furniture, her hazel eyes remained fixed on the floor. It was only when she set herself down in the booth that she took a proper look around her.

She had a great reason to look a little nervous; the last time she was here, there had been awkward, uninvited flirting...followed by chaos and shooting. From what she read in the newspapers, that was not all that uncommon... It was just unfortunate that she had a vicious craving for the greasy fare here.

She slipped back the length of her sleeve just enough to expose her fingertips so she could slide them over the holomenu in the table before her.

Sera Brenden made her selection with a few pokes of her finger against the screen. She settled back into the booth, lacing her fingers together in the folds of her sweater. Looking out over the bar again, she forced herself to relax a few notches. It wasn't as though people with guns stormed the bar every day, right? The likelihood was low...

...she took a deep breath as she tried to convince herself of that, and slipped into her habit of people-watching.

Sera Brenden glanced up at Isaac as he passed by her booth. Realizing that looking at someone usually required some kind of facial expression or acknowledgment, she offered a faint and awkward little smile before she looked back down at her fingers.

Her knee began to bounce slightly as she began to grow impatient, despite her best efforts to reduce her nerves.

Sera Brenden stepped through the front doors of the establishment with that reticent manner that was her signature. Her hazel eyes swept the bar briefly before she bit her lip, bowed her head, and made her way to one of the empty tables along the wall. Granted, this young lady was by no means a frequent patron--but she had come here enough to know full well that avoiding eye contact and remaining ever vigilant of her surroundings was the best course of action...

The young magess set herself down at a table meant for two, immediately and pointedly directing her attention to the holomenu before her. Her fingers appeared from the depths of her sleeves to slide along the panel as she sought something that struck her fancy. For some reason, she wanted a smokey-sweet drink this evening, and ordered a cocktail comprised mostly of whisky. The moment after she had made her selection, she glanced warily toward the booths, shuddering visibly at what she remembered happening in one of them. She rubbed absently at the back of her hand, frowning without considering the fact that--few as those that were present were--someone might be watching her...

Shortly, the cocktail arrived and Sera stared at it appreciatively for a minute before she drew it to her with a small and warm little smile. Lifting it in both hands, she took an indulgent sip. Her shoulders relaxed visibly, and she settled against the back of her chair with a small, contented sigh. Typically, whisky wasn't her drink--but the smoke and sweet mixed with the subtle hints of chocolate and sage were such a combination that--despite the fact that she had seen gunfights go down in this very bar--she could not help but relax. Her eyes scanned the establishment once again, but this time she took a little longer to take in detail...
