Sera Brenden blinks, and looks up from the food, frowning deeply. No, it's not okay that her quiet, hidden life of exploration has just ended, at least as she knows it. She can't blame him, though--not really. She did follow him out of the bookstore. She sighs, and looks back down. "...well. I guess there's no reason to be mad at you for it. I'm in it now." She pokes around her plate with her fork, her appetite all of the sudden gone... And there's no amount of politeness that can make her scarf down a whole plate of food for the nausea that now twists her stomach. "...you were in Houston?" Still not looking up. "I was, too, a little while ago. I escaped." She mumbles quietly. "There were demons, nephandi, and..." Her eyes flicker, and she stops.

Sera Brenden mumbles. "Good idea." She seems kind of lost for a moment as she remembers everything about that fucked up little chantry--the schizophrenic werewolf and her nephandus love; the demons that tortured her and basically bartered for her avatar... The fomori who pressed a hot metal cross into the back of her hand. She feels it bother her for a second, and she pulls the sleeve of her hoodie down over it. "I...ah...I should..." She fidgets, wanting to run home and curl up with a book or a pillow or her cat or something to alleviate her discomfort and uncertainty. "...I'm sorry, Ves. It's a pleasure meeting you, but...I..." She speaks quietly and meekly. "...I want to go home. It's been a bloody weird twenty-four hours."

Sera Brenden stands but frowns as she sees he misunderstands. "Oh, no. I'll be back, Ves." She hesitates, then reaches out to pat him on the shoulder lightly. Being a recluse, she's never sure what kind of gesture she should make--but she does try, at least, to figure it out. "I have several reasons to maintain your acquaintance. It's a plus that you're a good person." She nods faintly, even though she's wondering if that's the right thing to say. "I just need to go home and wind down."

Sera Brenden notes the flinch, and she deflates a little. Wrong move. Fiddlesticks. She reaches into her pocket, looking down as she does so she doesn't have to see that expression anymore. She really does intend to come back, and so she wants to leave a token to ensure it. She procures a slightly marred business card--marred because it was in her pocket when the classroom rained--and hands it to him. It's the business card for the bookshop she works at, and it just happens to have her phone number written on it in small, neat handwriting at the bottom, along with her position there: Clerk. "Call me anytime. I'll pick up when I'm not at work. I'm usually...at work, though, so, best to call in the evenings or really early morning." She turns to go, waving shyly. "Sorry for leaving. Um. ...g'bye--" And she flees, ashamed at herself and not even understanding why. It's not like she's betraying him--she just wants to go home more than anything.

Sera Brenden squeaks at the surprise. Literally, a squeak, like she's a mouse. Her eyes widen, and at first she's rigid. Then she relaxes, though, she only starts to hug him after a moment she has to take to recover. He's already poofed back into his apartment before she can get her arms halfway into the position of a hug. She stands there for a second, confused--then resumes scurrying on home, wondering when she'll be good enough to do what he can...

Sera Brenden wonders at the fact that she's wandered into a bar in the middle of the day. Sure, she walked here of her own volition, with the decision in mind... But... Still. She finds herself at the bar, and orders something appropriate for the middle of the day--some milk--and takes it with her back to a table to take a seat and watch the strange, straaange patrons at their antics, sipping at her milk, holding the glass in both hands.

Sera Brenden 's eyes widen at the shooting of what appears to be the ugliest, most neglected, possibly undead just she has ever seen. Strangely enough, she feels bad for it. Her eyebrows slant back as she tries to figure if there's anything she should or could do... Probably...not. She hides her dismay behind her glass of milk.

Sera Brenden squints a bit at what she sees. No. The child definitely doesn't need help. But the marines do. She fidgets a bit. She really doesn't want anyone to get hurt, but she's afraid of the backlash...

Sera Brenden fidgets uncomfortably at watching a child--even if it is a cannibalistic, ichor-filled mutant--get shot so coldly. It's strange how she feels sick at not doing anything, rather than the stench or the appearance...

Sera Brenden looks thoughtful a moment, then...gulps down the milk, setting the glass on a nearby table. She rummages in a pocket for some money, procuring a few bucks for a tip and leaving it under the glass... Before she scurries to the alley door to get out of here.

Sera Brenden meekly sneaks through the alley door, stopping there at the threshold to check out the place and make sure bullets aren't flying everywhere, that there aren't zombie children trying to eat people, and there isn't an excessive amount of cheek-burning romance.

Sera Brenden nods faintly to herself as she determines that there is no immediate danger to herself or her conscience. She treads lightly through the tables and patrons towards the bar, where she perches on a stool, waiting hopefully to be acknowledged by the barkeep. As it turns out, she is almost never acknowledged by barkeeps--she sits so quietly, and looks on so hopefully, that they never notice her... 'Til, at length, she looks less and less hopeful, and she slides from the stool to find herself a seat at a table to drum her fingers and wonder what to do to get herself a glass of something...

Sera Brenden fidgets a bit, as she lets her mind wander and gently touch against each person present at the bar. It strikes her that plenty of them are of a certain persuasion of reality manipulation that she might associate with her forces sphere... She doesn't look up at them, although she vaguely knows where they are. Her fingers knit together and she wrings them lightly, nervously. If they are broadcasting so--if they can't help it--perhaps they can feel her, too... And it makes her nervous. She looks back towards the bar, wondering if she'll be acknowledged, but doubting it so that she looks back down at her hands.

Sera Brenden turns her attenion to Riuku. Her eyebrows slant back. There's something...bad about that one. Her fingers untwist from each other, and she spreads them on the tabletop, watching him quietly and carefully.

Sera Brenden is force sensitive. And damn uncomfortable about it. She starts...playing an odd little thumb-war game with herself, though, as she watches Riuku and Konner, wondering, once more, if intervention is worth the backlash.

Sera Brenden sits up a little straighter as she feels something else of the kith of these others enter the bar. She fidgets just a bit more, before she stands up and moves purposefully to the bar. She raises her hand--I mean, how else is she going to get the bartender's attention? The bartender looks at her oddly, and she smiles awkwardly. "...sc...screwdriver?" The bartender shrugs and gets this for her. As soon as it's set before her, she stares at it regretfully. Oh. Alcohol. Um. Why did she ever...?

Sera Brenden finally takes the glass up to her lips to sip the sweetened poison. After taking a mouthful, her face screws up at the unpleasant taste, but, still, she swallows it down with a little gasp. She raises an eyebrow at the glass, wondering why or how people enjoy this.

Sera Brenden takes a look around at all the other people here that seem to be sitting alone. Suddenly, she doesn't feel all that weird--and at the same time, wondering if she can conjure up the courage to bother one of them into talking to her-- The thought actually makes her shake her head in a silent but physical disagreement. No, no one would talk to her, and she wouldn't ever go up and talk to them, and tonight will be like every other night--she'll end up going home having changed anything.
