Description
This is Tyli
Tyli says Hi
Tyli's got a fluffy tail
She can also fly
"Nice to meet you Gareth," Tyli responded, glancing a bit nervously to the commotion that had taken over the bar. She had come in far too late to understand what was going on. Then again, flying squirrels were not meant to know what was going on either. They were dumb creatures, concerned only with nuts and keeping warm in the winter.
But Tyli was no ordinary flying squirrel.
"How is it that you speak?" she asked, sitting back on her rump, and wrapping her tail around her toes.
"I've always been able to speak." The squirrel giggled. "I'm not just a squirrel you know. I'm a girl too, but I wasn't cursed to be this way, not at all. I was born a girl who could turn into a squirrel."
She watched Gareth a moment, her tail freezing in its motion. "Um..." she murmured. "You alright?" She waved a paw in front of his face.
"Come on, in my pouch." She revealed a messenger bag that had been slung to the rear of her, opening up the lip as she walked toward the rear exit of the bar, away from Irahel.
"We'll go someplace private okay?" she murmured to him, smiling the whole while. It seemed that there wasn't very much that could disappoint this young lady.
The city gave way to cool paths and shadowed landscape. She let the flap open on her messenger bag so that Gareth could have a good look around, pausing only when they were deep enough in the woods before setting the creature down. Immediately, she jogged away from him, disappearing from sight behind a larger tree.
A moment's pause...
There was a burst of foliage, and Tyli was rocketing toward him on all fours, tail wagging, whiskers twitching before she skidded to a stop, sending a spray of twigs and leaves and dirt his way.
She was shivering with excitement. "That was fun!" she chirped. "I felt like a hero! What was I rescuing you from, Gareth? Or whom?"
"A troll?" Tyli asked, moving a little closer. "You had mentioned a witch's curse. Why did she turn you this way? Not that I mind you as a groundhog. I think it's neat, but still. To be human once only to discover that you've been trapped in another form can be very disconcerting!"
Her tail twitched, and she was leaning forward to sniff at him again.
Tyli watched him for a long moment. If she had a brow, it would have furrowed, and her little arms extended to give the groundhog a small, yet warm hug. "Can I help?" she asked with a chirp. "Help you find this Helyn? No one should have to stay like this forever you know, especially when one does not deserve it."
She looked over her shoulders, then up at the trees. It was dark out, and something was beginning to make her nervous. "We should find cover." she told him in a whisper, then gestured to a bush that lay not far from where they were.
"Night creatures are about at this time, and they eat things like you and me. So let's hurry..."
"I'll help you in the best way I know how." she promised. Her eyes were closed, her breathing becoming softer, more even.
"That's what...friends are for."
And then she was asleep.
Tyli had removed herself from the hovel just an hour before dawn, changing to her human self so she could sit at the base of one of the trees and watch the sunrise. There was only so much time she could spend as a Squirrel, since her natural form was human.
So she sat, dozing lightly, her arms lying across her belly and her chin tilted towards her chest.
Tyli twitched, drawing her foot back as her eyes slowly opened. Stretching her arms over her head, she shifted to smile down at Gareth, shifting so that she was lying on her belly with her chin resting on her hands. "Morning." she said a bit tiredly. "Sorry I left you like that. I get kind of cramped in that form sometimes. Needed to stretch out a bit."
She blinked, pausing a moment. "How did you sleep?"
She blushed a little. "I slept alright." She rested her cheek on her hand, idly shrugging her shoulders. "I'm always tired though. I burn so much energy running around." She giggled a little, reaching over and idly stroking his side with the side of her finger.
"What sort of adventures do we have planned for today, friend?" she asked quietly, her chestnut eyes glittering almost mischeivously.
The girl reached over, plucking the dandelion for him and setting the shaft in his little hands. She then returned to resting her cheek on her arm, gazing at the little creature with a slightly furrowed brow. "We could head back to the bar," she suggested. "See if that woman is still there. I could ask a few questions if you like, perhaps even suggest that I'm looking for someone with magical capabilities to help me with...something."
She pondered.
"Perhaps to remove my ability to turn into a squirrel?"
"You can stay here at the hovel then." she replied with a smile. "I'll be alright to go on my own. What could go wrong? She doesn't know of me, so there shouldn't be any issues with me asking about her abilities."
She, of course, was speaking as if she were going to waltz straight up to Helyn herself. She reached over and gently stroked his side with her fingertip again. "I wouldn't worry too much. Can't have some level of success without risk right?"
"Alright," she murmured, pulling back and patting his shoulder with her little paw. "I'd best be off. If I'm not back before late afternoon then you can send a search party." She smiled. "And I'll be careful. Don't get into too much trouble alright?"
With that, the creature turned, abruptly taking to the trees, and began to glide from limb to limb, progressively making her way closer to Gambits bar.
Tyli walked into gambits in her human form, clasping her messenger bag as she looked around the establishment with a thoughtful expression on her face. It seemed empty, which was a disappointment, but she was a very patient girl regardless. So she walked to the bar counter, pulled out a stool, and sat down with her legs crossed beneath her.
Tyli perked, watching the pair that walked in with a curious expression on her face. Mm, worth a shot, she supposed. Leaning her chin onto her hand, she idly stared at the ceiling, huffing a sigh through her nose.
"Man, I wish it was easier to find a witch who could help me with this...cosmetic issue." she mumbled, just loud enough for Helyn to hear.
Tyli Novalee kept to herself, rolling her jaw and emitting a dramatic yawn. Helyn was looking her way, though the girl had no way of knowing whether or not this woman in particular was the Helyn she was looking for.
"I mean," she held out her hand, glancing down at them in mock disgust. "Who needs to turn into a flying squirrel? I sure don't."
Come over and talk to me, she thought. Because there's no way I'm going over to you..."
"I mean, I heard talk of that Helyn. They said she was as powerful as she was beautiful, and pointed me in this direction! Surely if anyone could help me, it would be her." Tyli adopted a disappointed look, even tearing up a little bit.
"Just my luck that she wouldn't be here now."
She sighed, her lips pursed. "I'm looking for someone." she said quietly. "I was told to come here. Her names Helyn. She's a witch I've heard can help me with my...problem."
Glancing away, she closed her eyes, her fingertips pressing more firmly against her knees, turning the knuckles white.
Tyli looked in the indicated direction, her eyes widening as a smile grew on her face. Sure, her heart was beating in her chest, and she probably would have had a shaky voice if she spoke, but she didn't. She just smiled, then waved to Helyn eagerly, as if she knew nothing.
It would be best to pretend that she knew nothing.
She half-smiled. "Alright then," Sliding out of her seat, she hesitated, waiting for Dyrmuc, before walking almost shyly over to the lovely woman and the troll.
"Hi!" she chirped when she approached. Now that she was here...what should she do? "I'm Tyli. You wouldn't happen to be Helyn would you?"
