Setting

Castelia is a sprawling seaside metropolis located in south central Unova. It is the heart of business and economy of the Unova region. Most of its city streets are crowded with different people rushing around, trying to get to work, home, or other places, creating a hustle and bustle scene for city life. You can find just about anything in this majestic city, including a primitive spaceport for off-world visitors. More notably however, Castelia has an entire building dedicated to teleportation based transportation, utilizing pokemon to allow people to instantly travel to and from the city from many places across the galaxy. (There is a building in Ridgecrest City on Terra with corresponding pokemon to teleport to and from, for instance.)

Valorie was nursing an ice cream cone near the docks, leaning over the railing and peering out to sea. She appeared to have something on her mind. She was thinking about a certain boy, and how he had tried to convince her to battle again--to try and become the champion again. It was a daunting task, especially after she had lost most of her team in a decision that had nearly killed her. For now, the sound of the ocean helped to distract her from her thoughts and keep her from getting too anxious. She had time... plenty of time to deliberate on this.

A young man walked towards Valorie and stopped a few meters away, hands in his pockets and his weight shifted to his right foot. He had green hair, yellow eyes, and an outfit that resembled the pattern of a Rayquaza'a scales. In his green hair were yellowish lines that resembled the pattern of yellow circles on a Rayquaza as well. A canine poked from between his lips. "So. How's it going?" he asked his trainer calmly.

Valorie was startled out of her thoughts by a slightly familiar voice. She stood up straight and turned to face Nathan, her magical eyes glowing with the texture and color of the northern lights. They would offer him a pleasant sensation upon looking into them. For a moment, she didn't seem to recognize him and seemed slightly confused. However, recognition flashed across her features and she smiled lightly. "It's... going well." she replied in a somewhat calm yet hesitant tone.

Nathan Miles smirked. "Good, good. I had heard about what had happened a while back. I kinda feel crappy for not being there to help." he said, looking down and scratching the back of his head in slight embarrassment.

Valorie smiled slightly at this. She didn't seem to mind. "...It's alright. Y'know, someone once told me that all things happen for a reason. Experience is... valuable." she said, vague hints of unsureness in her tone. However, she seemed to want to believe what she said.

Nathan Miles blinked and gave a small smile. "Those are good words to understand, but with you sounding unsure like that, you won't get much done." he said calmly. "You need to be more confident with yourself. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have caught me if you were so unsure of yourself or your other pokemon." he said, stepping forward and placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

Valorie jumped in her boots slightly as she was touched, perhaps unused to the affection. She hadn't really recieved a whole lot of that since she left her parents--Recently things had been changing however. She couldn't deny that she enjoyed the change. Hugs were much more guilt free than alcohol. "...Thanks--I just... I spent /years/ trying to become the world champion before..." she said, her brows furrowing. She seemed to be remembering the past.

Nathan Miles chuckled as she jumped at his touch. "No problem." he said to her thanks. "Sounds like you were dedicated. What happened?" he asked, doing his best to radiate a calming aura, which he couldn't do anyway because he wasn't the type of pokemon who could do that.

Valorie gave a light smile but averted her gaze downwards, a sad expression dominating her eyes. "...Years passed. Champions trained and got stronger. I trained and got nothing." she said, a slight tone of bitterness seeping into her voice as if she felt she had been cheated.

Nathan Miles frowned a bit. "Hey. Cut that out." he said, tilting her chin up gently with his hand. "What happened in the past is done. You need to move on and do something else, or accept the past, and get stronger from the experience." he said calmly, and soothingly. "You have got to be better than all the other champions in some way. After all, you did catch me, and then trained your pokemon to their current power. Besides, it's lonely at the top. Both metaphorically and literally." he said with a chuckle. "That's why I came down to the world, instead of being in the Ozone layer like I usually should. It get's boring and lonely up there." he explained.

Valorie flinched slightly when he grasped her chin, but she wasn't exactly in a position to resist. A frown had creeped onto her expression and she found herself attempting to avert her eyes. "...I just don't know if I can /do/ it..." she said in a rather depressed tone. Nope. Not cured yet. She had to wonder about legendary pokemon being depressed, though. She had always assumed they lived with other pokemon. She guessed the ozone wasn't exactly a popular hangout spot for a reason, though...

Nathan Miles furrowed his eyebrows. "If you keep thinking like that and you'll never be able to do it." he said bluntly. He took another step forward, poking her forehead gently with his other hand. "Set your mind to do something, write that something down, put it where you can see it every day, never stop thinking about it, and eventually, it will happen." he said calmly. "For example..." he started "I want Kyogre and Groudon to quit fighting and get along. I think about it all the time, and each time I break up one of their fights and lecture them both, they go a longer time without quarrel." he said. "You may not achieve your goal at first, but you may take a step towards it." he explained. "The moral of this story is this:" he took a breath and leaned in till his mouth was a few inches from Valorie's ear. "Perseverance." he whispered in her ear quietly so only she could hear it.

Valorie looked up to meet Nathan's eyes. Hers were full of worry. She seemed a bit frustrated by what he proceeded to say. Well, if she'd already failed in his eyes then... She banished the emotional thoughts from her mind. Did it really have to be this way? To try again where she had given up? She had tried for so long! For a time she had thought to seek her own goals rather than those set by society, but was this what she had to do? To earn people's respect, did she have to keep trying past the point of breaking? ..."Fine..." she said in a rather weary tone.

Nathan Miles kept his frown. "Your expression in your eyes, they basically lead to your thoughts. Your voice does to." he said. He backed away and sighed, putting his hands on his hips. "You're not the same girl that caught me. Your determination, your fighting spirit. It's gone." he said. His voice then became a bit harsh. "How do you expect to train me if you can't even believe in yourself?" he asked her. "I have faith that you can overcome this..this...attitude and go on to be whatever you want to be." he said. He looked her straight in the eye, piercing through her cloud of emotion and power with his own determination. "Show me that you are worthy to have me as your pokemon. Cresselia saw something inside you, which is why they gave you your life and powers. Prove that you are worthy of the gifts." he looked down, letting out another sigh, his arms hanging at his sides. "Do it for me, if anything." he said. "I would not even have come to talk to you today if I didn't like you...if I didn't respect you...or if I didn't unconditionally love you as my Trainer." he let out another sigh when he finished talking, and looked away.

Valorie quivered slightly. She wasn't sure how she felt about being read like a book. Probably not good--She wasn't used to her own pokemon judging her either. That was a bit of a harsh awakening for her. But what had he meant by that? Fighting spirit? As she recalled, she had been in the midst of crippling depression that entire time! ...It was almost slightly frightening to have him peer through her like that, his body language a bit domineering. She didn't know what to say either. But wait--What had he said? Cresselia? She didn't recall telling him anything about Cresselia... It was at this point that she knew what she wanted to ask. "...How did you know that?" she asked, not quite sure what to think.

Nathan Miles looked at her. "Your eyes are a big give away. Only one being has made me feel the same way I feel when I look into your eyes. And that was Cresselia." he said calmly. "I don't remember when I met Cresselia, but I met her a while back. Don't remember how either. She was just...there." he said. "Anyway, her very presence had the same effect on me as your eyes do when I make eye contact with you."

Valorie seemed to think about this for a moment. So... he recognized the abilities of the sandman pokemon. She guessed that made sense? She wouldn't know anything about that. "...A long time ago I--...I died." she said in a thoughtful tone, calling up memories. "It was in a sandstorm. I couldn't breathe..." she continued, shuddering slightly. Suffocating via breathing in sand was not all that pleasant. "...She said something just like that--Before she brought me back." Valorie finished, reminiscing. "I haven't aged a day ever since that day." she explained. Wait, how old was she again? "I--... She also said... I couldn't do it alone." Valorie finished, leaving that to hang in the air for a brief moment before adding in one last thing. "...She says hello." Valorie commented in a matter of fact tone. It seemed to implied that Cresselia was not truly dead. She had merely been assimilated into the body of the girl that stood before Nathan. Perhaps Valorie's powers were a result of this assimilation.

Nathan Miles glanced at her. "Yes I remember witnessing a sand storm at one point. Don't remember if anyone was there." he said. "If you can't do it alone, then I'm here, if you need me." he said without really thinking. He blinked after he said it, then blinked again after Valorie stopped talking. "Uh..tell her I said hi as well." he said not really sure what that meant completely though he had a pretty good idea.

gave Nathan a somewhat funny look. Surely there was a discrepancy there. That entire war with Team Eclipse... There had definitely been a rayquaza there, but that couldn't have been him could it have? ...A voice in the back of her mind quoted a familiar passage. Death is not the end for pokemon. They are merely reborn anew to start a new life. It was quite possible this applied to legendary pokemon as well. The legendary pokemon she had seen back then may very well have been Nathan's ancestor, considering the large time gap. Perhaps she would ask him another time, about Team Draco and such other things. "She hears you... through me." Valorie clarified, placing a hand on her chest as if to feel for her heartbeat. "I don't really know what happened... but I feel like...--Like we're the same person now." she explained. "I hear her--She hears me. We hear through the same ears and taste with the same tongue." she continued. "It's kind of weird." she finished, decidedly not mentioning the fact that pokemon had become 'friendlier' towards her since the fusion. That was, in fact, a euphemism for the fact that male pokemon sometimes seemed to be flirting with her as if she were a potential mate.

Nathan Miles nodded. "I understand. You two are fused. Two souls, one body. I can constantly feel her presence when I'm around you, whether I look into your eyes or not, I feel that she's around." he said, leaning against the railing as if to sit on it. "Soon after the sand storm...I ... don't remember much else. Just...a bunch of people wearing lab coats, robotic arms...and a lot of pain." he soon said. "Since then I've had a constant fear of humans, it didn't matter if I was in my human form or not." he said. "I absolutely feared the thought of being captured. Feared it so much as to become violent." he muttered, shaking his head and moving past those memories.

Valorie nodded slowly, silently. It made sense to her anyway, and the part of her mind that belonged to Cresselia didn't disagree. She remembered waking up from what was supposed to be eternal slumber, surrounded by her teammates in the deathly cold snow. ...Needless to say, they had been quite a distance from the original site of death by the time the decission had been made to revive Valorie. There had been a small controversy over the matter. She only knew this because Cresselia had known it. She never had qutie been able to look at Zweilous the same way.

"...Why'd you let me?" she asked, curious. She seemed plenty convinced that he had in fact let her. She had after all given him the option to protest.

Nathan Miles shrugged. "There are a couple of reasons as to why I let you catch me. One is that I was too weak from my battle that I couldn't resist. Another is that I was merely upholding my end of the deal we made. But I think the main reason was that you are different from any human I've met, even my past trainer, who caught me because she fell in love with me and didn't want to loose me. You were definitely different from her." he said with a small laugh.

Valorie blinked, and then gave Nathan a rather skeptical look. "She fell in love with you..?" Valorie asked curiously, attempting to rationalize this. Cue flashback. Valorie recalled Evrir, a Zoroark, taking on the illusionary form of a beautiful woman. It had very much created sexual tension between them, though the experience had been rather uncomfortable for Valorie. She knew what she saw was not real, and could never have acted upon her urges. The connection? Nathan stood there before her with the vague appearance of a man. "...I guess I could see that." she said with a note of distaste. Personally, she would prefer to fall in love with someone over what they /were/, not an illusion, and quite frankly... her love for dragons was platonic! "I guess you're right though... I... /shouldn't/ give up." she said, only mildly hesitant to utter the words.

Nathan Miles laughed again and nodded. "Of course the human form she fell in love with looked more human than this one." he said. "Anyone who knows pokemon could easily tell that I'm a Rayquaza, just by the rings in my hair or by my hair color." he said, laughing again. "I can't remember what I saw in her that made me so ... tame around her." he said a bit lost in thought. He shrugged and smirked at what Valorie said. "That's it. Never give up. And not hesitating could help a bit too, but I'll nag you about that at some other point in time." he said with a chuckle.

Valorie Ryder smiled lightly. "Thanks..." she said, and reached up to abruptly embrace Nathan again in a mildly affectionate manner. But.. affection aside, she kind of needed to get to work didn't she? She had half a team to replace and an entire team to train. She had a lot ahead of her if she actually wanted to go through with this.
