Introduction

The Multiverse is, in essence, a writing game in which all players have equal input into the story.

There are no statistics or win conditions, and instead, the constant overarching goal for each player is to explore the extensive possibilities that occur when there are no limitations on the scope of reality.

Rules

  1. Regarding writing style:
    • The Multiverse is to be written in past-tense third person.
    • Post length should follow the current activity of your current location:
      • Don't write massive essay-length posts when the current activity is in single-paragraph posts. Conversely, don't interrupt essay-length interaction arcs with something much shorter.
      • Do help increase the post length if you feel it is too short; but do it gradually.
Why? In a real-time setting (for example, the chat), the players get more chances to interact with one another if you write between 2 and 5 sentences per post, and split out your longer posts into individual chunks so people can read them much sooner. On a more static medium (like the Activity Wall), longer posts work well because people only check for new posts a couple times per day, or even less--and a sudden short post might completely ruin the post they've been working on for hours, or more.

    • Every post should be at minimum, a complete grammatical thought with both a subject and verb.
    • Proper writing technique is to be observed; correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation is expected.
  2. Regarding Etiquette:
    • Avoid using public OOC wherever possible. Any metagaming that is necessary should be directed to the specific player using /msg <username> (a chat-only command), the Multiverse's OOC forum, or via Private Message. Metagaming destroys immersion and is often considered cheating!
    • Do not force the outcome of your character's actions. You cannot, without express permission, force the outcome of your writing on another character. The Multiverse operates entirely on cooperation, so you should write all actions as your character performs them, but let the affected characters write the results of those actions as it pertains to them.
  3. Regarding chat:
    • Use the different chat modes ("Saying" vs. "Doing" (i.e., /me <action>) to maintain a consistent, readible format.
      1. Try to make your "Do" message make sense -- start them with your character's name, and make it a complete sentence.
      2. Don't "Say" what your character is doing. It looks silly, and it reads worse!
      3. If you're using multiple characters at once, open multiple clients or switch between them when you post.

    • Images are not permitted in any IC rooms, even if you're talking OOC. They are, however, permitted elsewhere on the activity tab and on the Multiverse's OOC forum.

Gambit's Bar - watering hole and premier destination for all sorts of entertainment, drunken revelry, and roughhousing. Located on a nexus point of countless overlapping realms, the building itself is outside of any individual world, though doors to it can be found all across the multiverse. The magical nature of the bar has been reinforced by technology and investment, leaving its structure about as difficult to break as the core of a dwarf star. Though fights and explosions may tear away the trim of wood, glass and wallpaper enough to reveal the ominous black material beneath, in the history of the bar it has never truly been destroyed, though representations of it in other worlds have fallen, Gambit's remains. Aiding its staff is the fact that, for those which the bar has accepted, the drink or in some cases weapon that they need is always to be found in the first place they look. Nobody has ever been able to explain why, but it's universally acknowledged as bloody useful.

A square-shaped conference table sits in the center of the room, and chairs are pushed in all around the table. Even so, there is little space available for standing or milling about. This is the central communications room of the highest echelons of the Terran National Government, complete with satellite access, direct lines to all Ministerial heads and the Grand General of the Terran Armed Forces at Fort Veritas. Within seconds, contact can be established from here to outlying planetary systems, bases across Terra, orbital vessels, and government offices anywhere.

The Borealis Garden Thumbnail

0 postsThe Borealis Garden

The Borealis Gardens are filled with exotic plants which seem to move when one is not looking directly at the foliage. They are brilliantly colored and a sweet scent touches the air, almost intoxicating for those who are not Promethean. They dim the senses in order to help protect the precious manor which lies beyond the elaborate and luxurious garden. A cobble stone pathway leads toward the home while something slithers through the grass unseen. It leaves most with an unsettling feeling in their stomach and perhaps a twinge of fear.

The Borealis Manor Thumbnail

0 postsThe Borealis Manor

Against the horizon is the Borealis Manor which stands three stories high with vines crawling up the natural stone walls. A balcony over looks the gardens and juts out from the western side of the manor on the second floor. Pillars stand to either side of the entrance to the manor and a large black wooden door awaits those that would knock or ring the doorbell.

The Foyer Thumbnail

0 postsThe Foyer

Dark wood panels decorate the walls which contrast starkly against the marble floor as well as the white statues. Many famous paintings hang from the walls of the foyer with their own lighting. The room gives off the air of an art exhibit rather than the entrance into a home. A luxurious pair of stairs cascade down on the western side of the room which leads to the upper floors of the Borealis Manor.

The Borealis Manor (Second Floor) Thumbnail

0 postsThe Borealis Manor (Second Floor)

The second floor of the manor is just as luxurious as the rest of the Borealis home. A hallway runs perpendicular to the stairs, running east and west. Soft carpet lays on the floor and a mural is painted on the ceiling depicting several Promethean gods and goddesses. The stairs continue up to the top floor.

The Hallway Thumbnail

Finally the hallway is discontinued with a large, beautiful, stained-glass door serving as the exit to the balcony beyond. Black doors still run north and south of the hallway providing privacy for the rooms the Canum Venaticorum reside inside.

The Balcony Thumbnail

0 postsThe Balcony

The balcony is a breath taking and peaceful place of solace. Lounging furniture is littered all around the stone veranda. It over looks the gardens and even allows a good view of the neighboring house; a mansion of another Wing City's prestigious families. Plants are scattered around as well while vines still crawl up the outside walls of the third floor. A small pool glitters happily on the balcony and adds the sound of ambient water splashing about.

The Living Room Thumbnail

9 postsThe Living Room

The main living room of the Borealis Manor is enormous and encompasses most of the first floor. Large and expensive rugs lay on the floor beneath cozy, designer, couches and arm chairs. A hearth is the center piece of the living room built into the northern portion of the room. It is made from stone and above it shows the Borealis Family tree in an artistic fashion. Book cases are found here and there as well as an entertainment center cleverly hidden inside an armoire.

The Dining Room Thumbnail

0 postsThe Dining Room

A long table made from dark wood runs down the middle of the room with several chairs pushed beneath it. A red banner with the Canum Venaticorum's Family Crests runs along the top of the table beneath shining silver dinnerware and candelabra. A chandelier with glittering gems hangs from the ceiling completing the extravagant and formal dining area. A smell wafting into the room from the south makes the mouth water around the hours when meals are prepared.

The Kitchen Thumbnail

The kitchen if filled with servants running to and fro in order to complete the orders of the Borealis Family and those associated with the Canum Venaticorum. Fresh vegetables of a foreign nature as well as fruits, breads, and fresh meats are scattered on different cutting boards. The appliances are very advanced and are mat-black as if made from cast iron. Pots and pans dangle from the ceiling on racks over an island in the middle of the room.

Pictures of the family hang from the wall with the Australis twins being the center piece of the framed collage.

Abominations of life and death. The murky waters of the bog stretch on for many miles, with only the few sparse trees sprouting up from the muck below. And endless night seems to have fallen upon the place; perhaps a long term effect of the eternal fog it is hidden in.

A cool rush of air blows from the depths of the tunnel. The dim light carries down a winding path and into the depths. A soft blue glow comes from the end of the twisted tunnel. It is the entrance to an ancient temple, older than the lake itself; or so it would seem.

These mountain peaks create a dominating and nearly impenetrable border that extends well into the northern cold plains.

Mountainside Temple Thumbnail

2 postsMountainside Temple

Roughly hewn from the earth of the mountain-side itself, the temple entrance is little more than two rugged pillars of stone standing sentinel at either side of a small cave opening, just large enough for two people abreast to fit through without stooping. Runic wards have been placed over the entryway to allow passage only to those with benevolent intentions, however at the moment they seem to be in disrepair and there seems to have been a recent rock slide in the area.

Dimly Lit Stairwell Thumbnail

0 postsDimly Lit Stairwell

This stairway is roughly hewn from the stone of the mountain itself. Descending into the darkness, the acoustics are such that even the smallest sounds of passage are loudly echoed down into the temple proper.

The Altar Room Thumbnail

0 postsThe Altar Room

The temple proper stands in direct juxtaposition to the humble facade of the temple entrance. The walls are lined with black marble columns and intricately carved scrollwork while the floors are tiled in black granite with varying runic symbols etched in gold leaf. Lining the walls between the columns stand tall statues of gods and goddesses long forgotten and at the base of each statue resides a small altar. For lighting extravagantly adorned candelabras ring the room. Further passageways open out from either wall of the room, though the east tunnel is collapsed and impassable.

Portal Room Thumbnail

0 postsPortal Room

The portal room is a large circular chamber with half a dozen stone archways positioned at intervals along the wall. Resting atop a pedestal at the center of the room is the crystal orb used to activate the portals. However, a deep crack runs through the crystal and several of the archways have been destroyed beyond repair.

Forge Thumbnail

0 postsForge

Outside of the temple proper is a small but functioning forge room. The east side of the room opens out from the mountainside, offering a view of the icy peaks outside, though due to the sheer cliff face there appears to be no means of entering or exiting the temple that way other than by air. However, the lengthy western tunnel has been collapsed, preventing passage between the temple and the forge.

Vestibule Thumbnail

The vestibule serves as a nexus to the other areas of the temple. Though less ornate than the altar room, the walls here too are lined with extravagant candelabras and marble pillars with granite tiling along the floor.

While seemingly humble in size, this library serves as an excellent source of historical information. Though, primarily mythological and religious in nature, the temple library's resources are impressively vast. Warmth and color have been added to this room, setting it apart from the rest of the temple proper. Along one wall rests a fireplace and several cushioned arm chairs for reading and the granite floor has been overlain with a richly colored red oriental carpet. The remaining walls are lined by rows of bookshelves containing ancient texts and documents and at the room center rests a large mahogany table.

Flora Thumbnail

Welcome to Flora- the run-down city just beyond the outskirts of Wing City. The paved, cracked streets look scummy and old, much like the buildings, and there is a distinct smell about the air. Back alleys and hidden paths from the streets are notorious, and often-times safer than the roads themselves. Keep a weary eye, because crime and mischief and flat-out danger run amok. There are few locations to go here where you'll be safe or even comfortable, but don't worry- once you're in Flora, you shouldn't plan on leaving anytime soon- despite the environment.

Steelie's Apartment Thumbnail

Small and cramped- like most any apartment in a decrepit brick building and built above a diner. It has a total of three rooms; a cramped bathroom with an even more cramped shower, a bedroom just large enough to hold a queen size size bed wedged against the wall and a dresser opposite it- no closet, and a studio room complete with a sofa as old as time and a TV to boot, a messy kitchen, and a two-person dining table stacked to the limit with papers, packets, magazines and books. The owner of the diner has been known to, on rare occasion, allow customers to stay here in times of extenuating circumstances.

Dark and foreboding, the trees seem older than time itself. Larger than life, and equally as imposing, they stand distanced as if politely ignoring each other. You have officially entered the castle. The ceilings are high, and grand mahogany doors grace every wall, leading to other presumable grand rooms. Gargoyles silently scream down on all who enter, daring them to vandalize the place, and a wide spiraling stair case goes both up and down. Large tapestries inlaid with gold hang from the farthest walls, and large vases housing dead roses sit in each corner.

Room of Reason Thumbnail

Leading off to the south from Castle Vankoryth's Entrance Hall via a heavy, wooden double door, is the Room of Reason. Inside the room cuts away from the more polygonal layout of the rest of the castle to become almost perfectly circular. The walls are lined with various tapestries and the only window, little more than an arrow-slit, is often covered by a miniature pair of crimson 'curtains'. The centre and main attraction of the room comes in the form of the large, round table carved from stone that sits in the middle. Monstrous tools are strewn around and levers and chains line the walls and hang from the ceiling.

Carved into the granite face of the mountain are idols from through the ages. The two largest portraits, one man and one woman, flank Mount Playmore. With wise eyes, they watch over the Valhalla Valley. Between them are many, if not hundreds, more portraits. Some may recognize the smirk of Remy LeBeau, whose bust is carved two faces to the left of Tersan Rogut's stony glare. Up over there, to the right of that carving of some old wizard, many will notice Skuld's portrait lurking among the rocky surface. Lady Une herself is represented right there, near the middle of it all, two faces up and one over from Chaos himself. Evana Daybreaker's head marks the point at which the sun rises over the mountain. Most of the faces appear to hold no name, their stories dwindled away with the passing of time. Strangely enough among the carvings are pictures of trees and clams, and if you stand at a certain angle while viewing the carvings it would appear that the woman carved next to the infamous Nicci has the ears of a cat.

An interstellar hinterland, the Razorbacks are peppered with bok globules and nebulae and have often been the neglected corner of the Coalition. The Core Worlds Thumbnail

The heart of the Belkan Empire, commonly referred to by its subjects as the Core, is easily one of the most secure locations known to exist, and possibly one of the most dangerous. Here one finds the opposite ends of the urban spectrum: from the shining domes and clean air of Tannhäuser to the filthy grime of the Neu-Lumen skyscrapers. The Belkan military, though it maintains a presence here, has long been outdone by the Landwächter, who police the realm hungrily, eager to strike at whatever quarry they can find.

The Inner Empire Thumbnail

The Inner Empire is, with the exception of the Core, where a great deal of the Hegemony's revenue originates. Home to most of their industrial capacity, industrial waste-worlds are quite common, as are hellish space-factories, spewing out arms, ammunition and vessels for the never-ending war effort.

A world known for its culture and bustling trade, Neu-Lumen is a place for those who want to live life on the edge, that is, if they don't mind being shot by civil protection once they've gone too far. TekOpera resounds around the room, Devika's voice entrancing all into a delightful state of absolute pleasure. A bar lays as the main center piece, made of black marble and is filled to the brim with the finest inebriating drinks and substances. Stairs, sleek and carpeted give passage to the VIP lounge upstairs where only the most prestigious citizens of the Hegemony are allowed, including the one and only Diva Devika. It is built into a large mesa that has somewhat been shaped into a large cathedral-like mountain. Atop the insane heights of the main sandstone spire glitters one of the greatest treasures of Gaia: An immense sapphire almost a hundred feet in width set into the very top of the spire. A little ways off to the right is an island made of stone holding things like cutting boards, knives, pots and pans, and cups that sit upon hooks within the wall while there is also basic prep work that can be seen here. Right across the exit to the tavern itself sits a rather large over and to the right is another door that appears to be an office of some kind while over to the left is the doorway to the cellar were some of the brewing takes place and several wines and other beverages are stored. In a sense this place was inspired by Tieglis Orgost for the tidiness and the order that has been placed within this kitchen.

These once proud Crypts served as a burial ground for some of this world's fiercest warriors, proud scholars and worthy leaders. However, due to the Crypt's legends, so too did the Crypts fall into legend themselves. As the years past, these stone halls began to crumble, the altars ruined and the energies of that mystical place became fouled by time's cold embrace. Recently, the crypts have become opened by two different factions. One Such cavern has been taken over by Necromancers, further dececrating this once proud place by raising the honored dead as servants to their evil schemes. The other is a lone being cloaked in shadow and bearing a strange black stone bow. Be it threat or friend, these caverns hold gold, gems and ancient weaponry ripe for the taking. Armax and Vixi have a symbiotic relationship, in that Vixi provides its moon with easy access to the a massive trading hub, and in turn Armax protects Vixi's pacifistic inhabitants. The moon is ruled by a council of eleven members. Their laws are not slavish or unreasonable, but they are strictly enforced. The carrying of a weapon is legal, but firing of it is strictly prohibited save for firing ranges and self defence, though the latter is a very rare occurance: to attack someone in this stronghold is to ask to be caught.

It is divided into four major areas called quadrants: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta, each of which compose one-quarter of the galaxy.

OOC: Anyone from the Multiverse can go to this area. It's basically a place to chill out and eat, as well as to travel between worlds, and sometimes interesting stuff will happen- after all, ANYONE can come here.

To keep some order, I've got a squadron of Defenderobos equipped with various weapons. All of them have Hold Rays, Stun Guns, and Snoozedust Launchers. And sometimes there will be some pretty famous and powerful characters here. So don't even THINK about conquering the place.

The Duel Corner can be used to settle any grudges. Many nice utilities for any character, such as Repair Robots and Healing Machines (now capable of maxing your mana!) are present as well.

""Okay, guys, open the gates." A strange cloaked guy riding on a mechanical bird thing pulled a lever. Instantly, portals from all over the Multiverse opened up. "Now, ready the kitchens! Open up the Duel Corner! Fire up the Repair Robots! Plug in the Wiis! Let's get this party STARTED!"

"Sweet, this place is open!" Tobarr Twohammers jumped out of the portal. "An' looky there! Repairin' constructs that can repair this armor." Tobarr had no clue what some of these people where, or why they were here, but he knew the place was way ahead of his time. He decided to sit between this weird thing that looked like it had a mushroom on its head and a somewhat large sentient metal construct. Tobarr began to examine the menu, and he overheard the two talking. "Get this. I was over in the Volcanic Depths, at the "Safe Zone", and the lava was above the "Safe Line"! Safe... right!" "Yeah, well, get this. I was in this old prison, and believe me, I didn't know what was going on- just that a bunch of Dragons and Titan Golems were appearing out of nowhere! The Mage with me understood it and was actually enjoying the place, but I never want to go there again!" "I'd be guessin' it's got somethin' fer mages and wizards an' the like." "Yes, I suppose you're right, Dwa- oh, there's my food."

Tobarr would never understand why constructs liked that toxic stuff that was called "Plasma", but then again, he wasn't a construct."

OOC: In the Multiverse, you don't have to make profiles. You just go in and start roleplaying with a character. That's apparently how this place works.

""Man, this plasma is good." The gigantic robot was chowing down on his bowl of plasma. "And to think it's high in Iron." "Was tha' a joke?" The robot and the Toad laughed. "Not at all!" "I didn't plan it to be a joke." "Whatever. Waiter, I'd like- wait, d'y'serve homestyle Bacon-Tater-Three-Che-" The waiter laughed. "Yes, we do serve those. This place was built with Dwarves in mind." "YAHOO! How much?" "About 3 silver for you."

"I'm gonna go watch those duels. That little robot is tanning that stupid Troll's hide." "You do that.""

Ember walked into a portal that had entered her world. She felt a weird sensation throughout her body. Everything was spinning around in circles and finally it stopped. She walked out of the portal and saw a resturant. Nice, she thought. She saw a duel corner and walked over there. This should be intresting, she thought to herself.

"Ugh..." Slannon fell out of the portal. Glancing around him he casually walked over to the area where there seemed to be lots of fighting.
He abruptly had to duck as the latest loser, a troll, was flung out of the area. The crowd turned to jeer-and Slannon got pushed into the corner. Immediately the robot charged at him. He leaped out of the way and hit the robot on the back with a jolt of electricity erupting from his hand. In an instant it was over. The robot lay on the ground and Slannon stood there, bewildered. He hadn't even tried to do that!
He got down before another challenger could approach. Casually, ignoring the crowds confused stares, he walked over to a table and ordered his favorite: pure lemon juice mixed with honey.

A portal opened in the USS Nostromo , it was during a fight between Ash and the crew.
They tried to kill a vital specimen, Ash wasn't going to let it happen.
He hurtled inside the portal, a normal human would have screamed.
Ash, the android that he is just shrugged it off and brushed the dust off his knees as he stood up from the ground.

"Intresting, a bar on the other side of an interdimensional portal with a fluxation of 42897 Joules per hour." The android cracked his neck.

"Weyland-Yutani standards are now Vull and Noid-------- Null and Void.... Intresting." The Android approached the bar.

"One of any kind of vodka you have on the rocks... and if you can some sort of electrical welder." The android sat down and looked around the bar.

Crystal had wished for some peace and quiet but even that calm looking guy ordering pure lemon juice mixed with honey didn't resist from a fight. She wondered when her training would be completed and maybe then she could win a fight but then again she was too kind-hearted and meek to be a fighter, it was her father who had got her into this. She slowly sipped her coke and wished that all these wars and fighting could stop but just as she thought of wars, like a flashback it came back to her how before her own eyes the assassain had killed her mother and just then a tear-drop rolled down her cheek.

Crystal's mobile started to ring a funny tune and all the people at the cafe started to stare at her. She blushed a deep crimson and quickly answered the call,"Hello...yes...really?....thank you so much....okay....thanks,bye!"
Her training had been postponed for today, she could do what she wanted, she smiled to herself and took out a white rose from her backpack, smelling the sweetness and enjoying each and every peaceful moment but just then she noticed her hankerchip fallen on the ground, she went to pick it with the coke still in her hand but while going she suddenly tripped and the contents of her coke fell out on to a man with a black hood.
"So..sorry." she managed to stammer.

Station Sixteen, Section Eight

Andropov was waiting. As Sectional Chief of Security, he was tasked with escorting foreign nationals and diplomats. He was built for the job; and his preference for muscle shirts served to enhance the image. "This way." he said, leading the three Ahrainian representatives through Station Sixteen's labyrinth of passageways.

The three foreign diplomats and their guide stepped into a cavernous circular room. The conference room was obviously designed for large meetings, albeit not opulent ones. The walls were polished chrome, as were the floors and gently sloping roof. A single windowless metal door, marked with Senior Diplomat Nika Akrevdev in white block letters, stood opposite Andropov. A circular metal conference table, measuring twelve feet across, completed the room.

Andropov nudged up to Alaron's ear and grumbled, "Here's Nika," before strutting across the room, and leaning his elbows on one of the room's cushy, chrome swivel chairs.

Their representative would be Nika; he was lithe, clean shaven, ruggedly handsome. Rectangular horn-rimmed glasses framed gaunt face. He smiled mirthlessly and clenched his folded hands. His three aides acted likewise. All four were dressed identically in black military day wear, with the exception of the maroon beret which hid Nika's curly brown hair.

Nika seated himself at the near side of the table, and his aides followed. Andropov sat on Nika's left, and Nika's three aides sat to his right. This left two chairs of space between the foreign diplomats and the technocratic representatives. Nika absently tapped the tabletop before him, causing a holographic screen to activate. He keyed in several commands and then folded his hands in his lap.

"To business, shall we?" he began, but was abruptly cut off by Andropov's forceful interjection, "Would you like something to eat or drink? I apologize for not having anything on hand. Our mess' cooks can make anything you want." The Security Chief flashed his trademark three-quarter smile to Alaron, awaiting an answer.

Alaron smiled "A bite to eat would be good, Chief, thank you. " he said with a nod, remembering Jade's earlier comment. "But as for business, it would be good to get started." he said, sitting down in the middle of the designated seats, Alliandre and Jade sitting to either side.

"Firstly we should make sure we clearly understand what sort of agreement we each looking for. The Ahrian Empire is largely interested in trade and in either a peace treaty, or a mutual defense pact, depending on which you are willing to enter into. As you are aware, our empire is a lot smaller than your own, and as such it is understandable if you find the latter a non lucrative prospect." Alliandre said

Alliandre finished speaking, but Jade took up where she had left off almost as seamlessly as if they were one person, "As far as trade is concerned, the main export we believe you would be interested in, is a compound gas unique to our home world of Ahria. For as long as we have used it, it has simply been referred to as the source, but the composing gases are in fact a variation on the common gas, Hydrogen, and a gas unique to Ahria called Aelfin. The two combine to create a gas that can be used as a powerful source of energy. For example," at that point, Jade pulled out a small vial from her sleeve "This much of the gas is enough to power an average home for a month." she said, before taking out another, slightly larger container that resembled a small fuel cell "This is the standard fuel cell for a light aircraft, and can last several hours without need to refuel. There are also scaled up versions we use in our spacecraft."

Alaron waited for Jade to finish speaking before pitching in himself "We also have relatively advanced cloaking technology, and these." he said, gesturing to a device that resembled a wrist band that he was wearing. "With these 'manipulators', a user can have limited control over gravity in a small area. If I may demonstrate."

The councillor gestured towards one of the spare chairs, and it rose up into the air, spinning around several times "It takes a lot of practice to control properly, and most people will find themselves limited to this sort of thing, but with enough time, one learns to do things akin to this." he said, and the chair crumpled in on itself, dropping to the floor a mangled mess of metal. "Well, I believe that we have shown our hand now, as they say. Let us hear you out."

"Can do." said Andropov, rising from his chair and sauntering for the staff kitchen.

Nika waited patiently through the Ahrianite's presentation, wincing as they totaled one of the good chairs, and he began expounding on his point, "That's all very interesting and promising. And unlike some nations, the Technocracy is always interested in mutual trade. I'm certain something can be arranged."

"Interesting, I was expecting the normal spread of exports; perhaps, considering that the Technocracy is in a glut for a fuel sources right now, we could arrange a simple trade? You supply us with this gas, we maintain refining operations there, and we'll provide protection and security for your entire empire. Does a battlegroup, say, fifty-five ships, per planet sound good?" elaborated Nika, gesturing wildly with his hands, as was his unintentional habit.

"Moving on to your gravity device, It's impressive, I'll admit that much," Nika said with a saccharine smile, "But the Technocracy already possess that kind of technology; in fact, our 'effectors' can manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum as well as gravity. They're wonderful devices, really."

Nika was blessed with a keen eye for details; no facet of the Ahrianite's flawless interpersonal communication went unnoticed by him. He pursed his lip, thinking, and then he calmly asked, "I hate to be intrusive, but do the Arhianites have any form of telepathy? I've noticed the," he said the next word cloyingly, "flawless way you merged conversations."

Space Runaway Setup. Type Moon"According to our own diplomatic team, there are vitally important suspects within the range of your system. We would like to hold them for trial." A Trantor Medium cruiser was nearby, but it would not enter Red Technocracy space, as that would not be a smart choice. They wanted to capture these people, and send them all to the Black Hole for eternal confident. However, it was the Red Technocracy's decision, after all. The Medium cruiser made a jump back for Trantor space, to wait out the situation.

Alaron nodded "We do indeed possess the ability to use telepathy, it is inherent to our race." he confirmed "It is limited to communications though, I might add, I cannot read your mind or that of any other sentient being to learn anything." he added "Your protection and security is greatly welcomed, our fleets are untested in the harsh realities of war, training exercises can only do so much to prepare one for conflict. Our weapons and tactics are sound in theory, but in practice we can never be sure. The gas is in abundance on our planet, and is easy to create from other elements, so supplying you with it should be no trouble at all."

"We do of course offer all the general exports in addition to this, but that can be easily dealt with by the traders themselves." Jade added, "Your effectors certainly sound interesting, I would be interested in seeing one at some point if I could, just for my personal interest."

Alliandre nodded briskly, before blinking as the Captain's voice spoke in her mind "High Lady?"

"What is it? I told you we were not to be disturbed." she snapped, frowning

"My sincerest apologies, High Lady, but we just received a transmission, a distress call sent out to the general area. It's the Azerians, ma'am. Their ship is damaged and they are requesting aid from the Technocracy."

"Well I am sure that the Technocracy will respond appropriately, and have already received the transmission. I will mention it though. Thank you Captain." she finished, before turning back to Nika "I do apologize, I was just contacted by the Captain of our ship, there is an Azerian ship nearby sending a distress call out, though I am sure you already know." she explained

"Azerian vessel, we are dispatching a tow squadron to your location. Your request for temporary asylum has been granted. You will be boarded and searched, however. This is f-comm, over and out."

The tow squadron, comprised of three squat tugs escorted by two comparatively spindly destroys, dropped into realspace three-hundred kilometers away from the disabled Kapahanuhalulu. The unfortunate result of this was that the already damaged ship would be bathed in a spasmodic, but incredibly strong, burst of exotic radiation. All five technocratic ships, properly shielded and undamaged, were unaffected.

The first destroyer's captain hastily hailed the Kapahanuhalulu, politely asking, "Is your ship still intact? Our radiation wake might have damaged things even more."

As the radiation wake subsidized, the tows moved into position along the dorsal, port, and starboard hull plates of the ship. They clamped into position with electromagnets and remote-guided tow cables attached to vernier thruster packs; and they gunned their engines. It would take days for them to reach the inside of the system, so they would guide the foreign vessel to the nearest military drydock and search the occupants en route.

Of course, the military elements of this operation had other things in mind. The cruisers, their bows pointed directed at the Azerian ship, engaged pinpointed communications jammers. The Trident AI controlling the second destroyer hailed, "Please prepare yourself for boarding."

At that moment the first destroyer broke formation and banked alongside the Kapahanuhalulu. It was close enough for the Azerians to see the closed port weapon awnings through whatever windows their vessel might have; they would also notice the extended docking umbilical through which the marines would arrive.

The Technocratic response was short and concise: "We are going to process them before extradition. The situation is under control."

Parabola

"Great, great. And, I'll show you some footage of these effectors - oh, that's all under control. We get stuff like that happening all the time around here." Nika rambled, quickly keying in a command to display battlefield footage of a cruiser-mounted effector array. It was fearsome, its user combing gamma radiation and magnetic field manipulate to rip apart and atomize a space station.

Captain Jalulaha sighed as he activated the communication channel to the boarding ship.
"I don't see the point, you won't find anything board the Kapahanuhalulu."
He shut off the panel and activated a few controls on the holo-deck.
'Kapahanuhalulu's memory is now erased.'
Said the fragile female AI.
'Goodbye commander, it was nice working with yo-yo-you."
The AI's communication hissed and glitched, until finally it was gone. The ship's power shut off and is now completely inoperative.
Jalulaha switched on his portable communication-array.
"I am bringing armed personnel aboard the station. I will assume that is okay... Technocracy."

Jade's eyes widened at the display, and Alaron and Alliandre, though less obviously, were visibly impressed. "Such destructive power." Alliandre breathed "I suppose that is what happens when one uses science itself as a weapon against their enemies." she said, "A most impressive weapon, though I am sure you have more to dazzle us with."

Alaron nodded "Our people will learn much from the technocracy, which handily brings me on to the next point. The Ahrians have had contact with other races, as you know, but the first race we encountered before even the denizens of some of our own planets, was the Voidkeepers. Their name is rather ominous, and ill befits their nature, they are a peaceful people who dwell in the void of Limbo, an alternate dimension in which there is nothing but they, and what they choose to bring into it. They have the ability to transfer themselves, as well as sections of space ranging from an individual, to a ship, to an entire Solar System, depending on how many of them there are, into Limbo. Limbo is timeless, and so a year can pass in there while a second passes in our realm, depending again on the Voidkeepers themselves. They are based around gaining knowledge, but we have an alliance of sorts with them, where we gather them knowledge in return for their support in any troubles." he explained

"Of course, I am sure they will want to meet you themselves at some point, they are fickle in some ways, and it could be mere days or several years before they decide to make contact." Jade added.

You can create and play anything that you like in the Multiverse. There is no acceptance or review of characters, just create the character and start RPing!

Re: The Multiverse: The Official OOC (uber)Thread

Hello folks! I'm currently maybe two-thirds of the way through the planned Family Pictures sequence, which can be read here, and am posting one last announcement looking for folks who might still want to become part of that. There are opportunities! They abound, in fact! (Yes, I was looking for an excuse to use the word "abound" in an internet forum post. I successfully created one.) Nothing is completely set in stone, as this, like the rest of my work 'round these 'ere parts, focuses on the development of the individual characters, so if you have vague ideas or would like to learn more, I do not mind sharing information and such. I anticipate working towards a conclusion by March 2012.

Re: The Multiverse: Where Do We Go?

Um. Okay. Bear with me. I read through what posts I saw, and took note on things that were said to the best of my ability. Here's where I stand on the Multiverse, where the Multiverse is to me, and yeah. I guess.

I agree that there needs to be a set baseline. For instance, the name of the bar. The name of the world that the bar is on. The name of cities, nearby things like that. There can be a set system of government, the Wing City Police Department, but their "jurisdiction" only stretches so far. Some of the most interesting roleplay I've seen/participated in has involved characters coming from other worlds and having to either deal with, work around, or confront the system of government set in the Multiverse.

Alternately, some of the worst and most frustrating MV roleplaying I've seen has been .. involving characters coming from other worlds and having to deal with, work around, or confront the system of government set in the Multiverse.

I've always seen the MV as a hallways connecting various rooms. The rooms are your own story, your own ideas, your own canon, your own characters; it's where your friends gather and you control things. When you're out in that hall, however, all bets are off. That isn't to say you can pull things out of your ass, but you accept and understand a certain amount of handicap.

For instance, my character Liesha Kennicot is a Special Agent in the United States government, from her Earth. She's aware that there are other Earths, and that she doesn't had any control when in the MV. That's fine. However, when someone else walks up to her and starts trying to give her orders claiming that their faction has taken over mine without a single bit of IC content, that's when things start to go awry.

Reading back over the original post, it seems that the Multiverse has as much substance as you give it. It's a sandbox location where you can freely interact with new characters that you might not get a chance to. For a while, I used the MV as a way to try and test out ideas with people before making a roleplay out of it. You get your circles of friends (as Patch mentioned, his crew of eight) and you go at it. Sometimes you meet in the middle, and sometimes you don't.

And at the risk of ranting, that is all I have to say about that.

Re: The Multiverse: Where Do We Go?

Oh dear gods. (facepalmer)

All of you and your wall of text. ALbeit all of them are thoughtful, insightful posts that share your views to everyone.
That's just not my style.

I don't know. It really has been ages since I last logged in or even joined the chat. Moreso with my job, my time has effectively been reduced to null. But i still recall the days.....

Joy in roleplaying. Let's narrow that down. Take note that the list below are different, different things.
A) Joy in creating worlds through words.
B) Joy in interacting with other characters.
C) Having fun.

Let's take a small look at C) and stare long and hard at a solid fact.
What someone may find enjoyable will be viewed as UNenjoyable by someone else. That's a fact. Since 'someone' and 'someone' is undefined, what i'm trying to say is that what you like may not be what others like.

Let's look at the multiverse or rather, let's look at the spirit of the multiverse years ago, when i first joined.
The multiverse. Where multidimensions collide! where anything and everything can happen.

I feel like playing romance. giant robots attacking the bar? Screw the giant robots, i came here for romance and i shall have my romance and i'm perfectly elligable to do so under the law that says multidimensions exist, and so, the two situations are at seperate events.

So why remain in gambit's bar? Because it also allows me to read on the other situation and find enjoyment in it. 2) allows me to see friends, and friends to see me and 3) allow others to take note of the roleplay i have going on, and if they are interested, ask me/the rp people if they could join.

And so the romance was broken by the girl's husband appearing, and punching the daylights out of my character.
That aside...

Let's look at the newbies....... na wait. I don't think i even want to talk about newbies and how they would react to 'canon' multiverse. I'll end my post here.

Re: The Multiverse: Where Do We Go?

Oh, please don't ask about Skullstuki. Temper tantrums result. He declared, without a single IC battle fought, that not only had his nation taken over Terra it had taken over every single nation in the entire galaxy. Had this been acknowledged as canon, it would have essentially destroyed an RP some of the players have been working on for upwards of five years. Five years of playing!

After five years, of course they are protective. For some of the players. their nation has become their baby. Let them play. They've already said that they don't care if you don't acknowledge their canon. the only thing is, if you interact with any of the nations in that canon, than you must acknowledge said canon. That's just manners!

Manners hold the world together, you know.

I want you, for half a moment, to consider how very super duper large the multiverse is.

There are around 332 rooms. Assuming I counted correctly, and with that number I tend to have an error margin of 1 or 2, than that is still a huge lot of rooms. These rooms, since the archives first begin around 2009-08-17 around 16:00 hr or 4 pm (which is after, you know, the multiverse actually began as an RP). In that time, they have an average of 4004.9428 posts, with some rooms having non, and Gambit's Bar, by far the largest, having 1,010,188 posts. There is a total in the visible rooms of 1,329,641, and I know I've RPed in rooms not on that list, using the move commands to get to hidden warrens. This is hardly the truth, as some of the newest or most convoluted rooms don't have any posts. Hence, we can assume an even greater number of posts than listed since mid August, 2009.

With some posts lost, not recorded due to glitches, or some rooms not recorded, I'd say over the three year period a modest estimate of extra posts is 500.

Are we supposed to assume the canon of 1.3 million posts? What about where players have gone back, and chosen to 're-write' their characters history? What then?

Now, you may claim the numbers don't matter, the people do. Not all of the too-many-to-count-and-besides-I-can't-find-a-number players still RP at all, much less RP in the multiverse. Some of the thousands of characters used in the multiverse haven't a single post to their name, because the planned plot failed, or what have you.

So if we go for consensus based, than there is no NRP any more, because, trust me, the consensus is wildly against them. In a multi-verse which assumes multiple dimension, and multiple versions of the same planet and the same bar, than how fair is it to say 'Oh sorry, I know you've been working on this for several years now, but all that effort, all the writing, the planning, the knowledge learned to best deploy this and that, it's all in vain'?

Here's the thing.

Let me make if very clear.

The Multiverse as an RP assumes that multiple dimensions exist.

Again.

The Multiverse as an RP assumes that multiple dimensions exist.

I could repeat myself again, but I think twice ought to be enough.

In other words, why do you want to enforce a canon on an RP where multiple canons exist? There's no need to pick and choose what to keep and what to throw out. Frankly, it can all happen at the same time. The planet can be glassed and not be glassed at the exact same time. A character can exist, and can not exist at the exact same time. It can, in fact, be day and night at the exact same time.

Multiple dimensions. Ha! Aren't they fun?

Harlequin Smile wrote:So... what would be the difference between doing this in the multiverse and/or basing this in your own Tab based RP chat area? See, this is what I was going for with the why bother RPing in the multiverse at all bit. If you're only including eight other people, and wouldnt be happy with anyone else dropping in and trying to be included, then you may as well not RP in the multiverse at all? I'm not saying that what you're doing is a bad thing, just that from the sounds of it you could quite easily make it a private RP elsewhere and change absolutely nothing about it.

Maybe I haven't been clear. In this plot of eight or ten people I have recently found myself sacrificing character development because I was so busy trying to manage scenes in the plot. Its not 'I don't want to RP with more than eight people' it's a literal lack of ability to manage the plot with any more players. I haven't picked these eight players and then said 'Your characters may now only roleplay with other characters involved with this plot' and in fact there are many side plots running that do contribute to character development that are not overall directly connected to my plot. Additionally, this plot is open ended. At the finish I expect there to be half a dozen loose ends which will lead to continued roleplaying with these people and others.

I'm not trying to cut myself off from the greater part of the community, I'm at my limit of GMing ability.

In fact, this roleplay spawned from interactions with another player, and the effects they had on my character, along with my own desire to have a more epic plot and to make something really big and special and involve a bunch of people. Why the Multiverse? Because after its over I can continue using the characters involved and continue seeing the characters involved. The end of the plot is not the true end. The beginning is not the true beginning.

If at this point you're still saying 'Why not do it in your own RP' I think you're missing the general spirit of the Multiverse.

Alright, let's look on it in a different light. If everyone agrees with something except for me, does this mean I have to deal with it or does my opinion override everyone elses? And when this happens, what if it is significant to my character? Like, by cause and effect my character would be dead?

Re: The Multiverse: Where Do We Go?

I am currently packing eight skilled roleplayers into the plot. On active days I am dual RPing with them and don't have time for any other roleplaying. I tried to include as many people as I could, and I found that as a GM in a chat scenario this is about my max.

So... what would be the difference between doing this in the multiverse and/or basing this in your own Tab based RP chat area? See, this is what I was going for with the why bother RPing in the multiverse at all bit. I'm not saying that what you're doing is a bad thing, just that from the sounds of it you could quite easily make it a private RP elsewhere and change absolutely nothing about it.

As for visiting RPG's chat, and knowing you. No. Not anymore. Used to, but that was a while back, under a different mien. I've changed my face since then and havent been into the chat since. I'm going to field the obvious question now, which is 'So how the hell can you have an opinion on this.' Handily, it also ties in with Arceius's statement that you cant have a universal canon.

I'm currently involved in another site with several thousand members, several hundred of whom could be called regular users. The site is almost entirely chat based, as in 95%, with the other 5% user created media. It has a sitewide canon, enforced by the player base, updated as and when events happen. And major events do happen. Factions spring up, break down. Major places get annihilated. People die.

It works. Because everyone knows what's expected of them. And because everyone self moderates. If someone turned up and started, ooh, lets say glassing planets with space bombardments, then the regulars, at least those with the power to oppose them, would be able to oppose them.

Arceius says
So, in the end, this isn't a question of adding canon to the multiverse. It's a question of what canon would you like to upkeep for users to interact with?

See, this is essentially what I'm on about. It's a question of what's kept. And that's down to consensus rule. If you've got a strong, estabilished player base then they can and will maintain the canon. They have a vested interest in doing so.

With this a lesser skilled player could, say, go back in time and say they were the original creator of the world, or establish that they own a city or some other convulutance. Establish a long lost lineage to an important established character. And that's fine, if its one person, but if it becomes a group of four or eight? There comes a point where enough roleplayers make it count, and then what happens to the other people in the canon? Do they just have to accept it because the player played it? It becomes a matter of how far does it go.

Here's the thing. Not everything would have to be kept. All these world shattering events you seem to think would happen would and could be controlled and opposed. You've got to realise that for every mookle who'd think that springing back in time and turning themselves into the de facto ruler of the universe ultra awesome gary stu, you'd have ten more who'd think that was ridiculous and oppose it. It's group rule, and with so many regulars here, so many estabilished people, the ability of one person to drop in and screw everything up is almost nothing, unless all the regulars just sit on by and let them do it. Would you, if someone dropped in to this RP you've been running for so long, worked so hard to create? If you wouldnt, then why wouldnt everyone else?

Re: The Multiverse: Where Do We Go?

One player did something particularly horrifying which was generally acknowledged by the community was glassing Terra, with space lasers, y'know? The outrage that someone would do this was immense, and it was politely and canonically moved to an alternate Terra. (It was canonical as the nation roleplay scene basically is). I think this works in your favour of a sort of 'User moderated canon'.
