Introduction

A few notes on this COMPLETELY ORIGINAL (*cough*Watchmen*cough*) roleplay.

Set in the year 2025, this is set in a universe alternate to our own, different in only one key manner. In the year 1985, the first Age of Heroes began, resulting in a flood of vigilantes and would-be protectors flooding the streets to battle against crime. Unfortunately, given these heroes were horribly amateur, and not very powerful to begin with, many of them were killed outright within less than a year, with others being arrested for criminal negligence and endangerment.

The few dozen that remained, however, were the best, either because they were the most prepared, the most powerful, or even just the luckiest. These few heroes actually proved more effective than the hordes that came before them, and before long the government rather grudgingly decided to support them in their efforts. Law enforcement branches began to share information with them, and people even began to cheer the most public when they spotted them on the streets.

In time, this led to the creation of the first official Team of vigilantes, the Sentinels. Founded in 1997 by a group of nine superheroes, the Sentinels began as a simple information and coordination network. Over the next couple of years, however, the members of the team began to draw closer, forming friendships and the occasional relationship as they began to work together more and more. Their public image only improved as they presented a unified front against the crime cartels and superpowered villains that roamed the cities, and though other Teams formed soon after, they were often considered the front-liners. As the founders began to take wards, sidekicks and pupils from the ranks of new vigilantes, the Sentinels grew in number and power until, by 2006, they totaled fifteen active members.

But then came the Fall.

It started with the development of Supremacin, a performance-enhancing drug that could increase a normal human’s attributes to Olympian levels. With the creation of this drug, two things occurred; upper-tier criminals became much more dangerous for vigilantes to face alone, and regular law enforcement became much more capable of dealing with street crime on their own. While not at the same level as a vigilante, a Supremacin-enhanced soldier was still a noticeable improvement over the garden-variety bunch.

This led to the second, and perhaps most damaging development; Suppression Prime. A team of soldiers, enhanced with Supremacin and outfitted with the best in weapons and technology, Suppression Prime was essentially designed to replace vigilantes, and the government was more than happy to accept it. After all, between a disciplined, loyal, controllable army and a group of mysterious independents, congressmen leaned towards the former far more favorably.

The heroes found themselves being shunned, ridiculed, and sometimes even actively hunted by the people they had worked so hard to protect. Unable to fight a war on two fronts simultaneously, many heroes chose to hang up their tights and fade into the night. In 2014, the Sentinels, amidst inter-member bickering and the death of several active heroes, disbanded.

Some heroes chose to continue the fight they had started, but like it was before the Age, they worked in the background, often having to evade Suppression Prime while bringing justice to the criminal element.

Now, in the year 2025, the world is essentially falling apart. Crime has reached record highs, both mundane and super-powered; this is hardly helped by the fact that large chunks of Suppression Prime, entire cells in fact, have defected, forming their own cartels. A sudden flood of mutation and technological advancement have led to a new stream of amateur wannabe heroes which means, naturally, a new stream of stupid deaths.

In the midst of this chaos, a few hardened veterans will finally choose to step back out from the shadows. From the best in the amateur ranks, they will find successors to carry the mantle they’ve had to bear for so long…

After a little training, of course.

I’ll probably write a more detailed synopsis later; to be honest, I’ve written a more detailed synopsis TWICE, but two freak accidents caused me to lose them both times, so by now I’m pretty much fed up with it. ><;

For now, only accepting hero applications. This roleplay is intended to focus more on character interaction than ‘crash, bang, bash,’ so there won’t be very much in the way of PvP at first. When everyone’s settled, we can start introducing our own secondary characters as villains.

There are, essentially, two ‘types’ of heroes you could make, each with a different style. The first are the ‘newbie’ heroes, who are less experienced than the veterans who came before them but, due to a higher level of mutation, have flashier and more unusual abilities. Think Human Torch, Martian Manhunter, etc, etc. But, since they’re new to the game, they don’t have much of a support network, or much experience. They probably rely on their powers a little too much, operating more on raw power than skill and cunning.

The second are Veterans, minimum age 30, (i.e. they’d start their ‘careers’ in 2013 at the latest, in their mid-late teens.) As hardened fighters, most of them will be fair hands with melee fighting, even those who don’t normally rely on close-quarters fighting. Think Watchmen, obviously, with the difference that these heroes can actually have powers. They’d just be a little less extensive than the newer heroes, probably something simple, like fast healing, simple cryokinesis, etc, and usually with enhanced physical or mental attributes thrown in. However, they do usually have access to a wide variety of criminal and law enforcement contacts, even in the wake of the Fall.

Of the Veterans, I am looking for two other former Sentinel heroes, probably second generation (i.e. Sentinels who were trained by one of the founders prior to the fall.) Given my character will be male, at least one of these two characters must be female. Additionally, I’d prefer if at least one, or both, of them were the one(s) to come up with the idea of re-banding the Sentinels, given the character I have in mind for myself isn’t much of an idealist. X3;

Oh, one last thing, a request really; for the sake of my own self-assurance, if you are interested in roleplaying here but will take awhile to assemble a profile/get online to join, a quick PM to let me know of your interest would be appreciated. Mostly it’s so I’ll know the difference between ‘People Lurking and Ready To Leap In’ and ‘Nobody Whatsoever Wanting In Ever.’

(For the record, include your character's powers and skills in the 'Equipment' section.)
