Dusk

"You never know how much you appreciate something until it is taken away"

0 · 1,763 views · located in Anywhere but the Lab

a character in “The Outside”, as played by ShanĂ©

Description

(Will add sample of my writing tomorrow, that is if you aren't sick of it from The Lab, Quarantined and Beneath Our Feet. ;) lol)

Name-
Was once Sasha Marten, however now that she has changed she prefers Dusk.

Age/Gender- 18, Female

Mutation-
Dusk is now a feline mutant. Due to her cat abilities, she now is extremely flexible, and stealthy. She can move about a room almost with no one noticing her. She also has night vision and enhanced hearing. She does not have the ability to morph or change into her animal. Also due to the experiment her previously brown eyes turned an extremely unnatural green. She also has a mind ability and can feel the emotions of those closest to her, though only the main ones. Re-tractible claws are a new enhancement

Weaknesses:
Dusk herself is very weak physically, and her nature makes it hard for her to react violently. Also due to her ability to feel others emotions any pain they are inflicted with also hurts herself. This also affects how she defends herself, she can't hurt another person without hurting herself.

Descripton-
Dusk is very slender and is quite weak physically. Her skin is very pale and it's porcelain colour stands in stark contrast to her jet black hair. Her hair is dead straight, and is very long reaching down to her hips. Her eyes are her most striking feature. They are a dark, yet slightly luminous green, and always seem to be seeing more then just what is visible, but more into your soul. This is partially due to her mutation. When it is night her eyes also change and become more green, and intricate lines of green curl around them, this is only when she uses her night vision however. Her lips are quite slender and are a pale pink colour. Dusk's face is also very narrow and almost all her features are quite delicate, with the exception of her eyes. Dusk is also known for her style in dress. She usually wears dark colours, and when she was caught she was wearing a long black dress, in a almost gothic style. It has no sleeves and reaches to her ankles. Her figure was almost hour-glass when she arrived however now she is very thin and you can see a few bones.

Personality

Dusk is usually a very quiet person and also very gentle. She prefers to be an observer rather than someone who imputs. She can also be stubborn when something is going on that she finds obherently wrong. This often gets her into trouble. Dusk also has a soft spot for broken people, and finds herself alligning herself with those she deems to be strong characters with a sense of mercy. She is quite a complicated personality and can be two different people to those she likes and those she hates. While she is shy and gentle around those she loves, Dusk can be a silent, stony figure when angered. Rather then lashing out with a tongue, Dusk contents herself with piercing looks and stony expressions to those who anger her.
Dusk also has touble forgiving those that hurt her badly, she has had bad experiences in her past which make her like she is.

Fears:
Dusk is naturally a rather fearful person, so she has many fears. Obviously her main one is for going back to the lab, however her second and probably main one is also the fear that Amp will get hurt. She has a soft spot for him, though she is not sure if he is interested. Another fear is of being locked up. This is not limited to the lab, any situation she can't get out of will scare her. Probably her most unhealthy fear is that she will not be good enough, or useful when her friends most need her, which naturally she fears will be soon.

History

Dusk only came to the lab after escaping from one of the richer houses in the town. She had come desperate for food, and her dress already ripped and torn in places. After arriving she was shot, and that is the last she can remember.
Her family ras one of the wealthier, though being wealthy did not mean happy. Her mother was usually too busy organising affairs to be too bothered with her daughter. Her father, she never saw. While she was at home, she fell in love with another, yet he left her for another girl. With a broken heart and an unhappy past, Dusk decided she would leave, and search for another life. Unfortunately, being rich she had no clue of survival, and was forced to beg the neighbouring facility for food...
That was to be her last mistake.
After that she was taken to the lab. There she was given cat DNA and turned into Dusk, rather than Sasha Mortan. After briefly escaping the guards, she met Amp. From then on, Dusk stayed close to him. Soon they met up with another group of mutants, Kyra, Nudge, Ash, Matt, Cannon and Emvee. Cannon went missing during the escape, though the others made it out of the Lab. Out of the lot of them, she is closest to Amp, and also to Kyra who saved her life on a nunber occasions. Dusk also quite likes Nudge, finding him quiet and also finding that she can half speak to him through emotions. As for Matt and Ash, she doesn't know them too well, though she certainly counts them among her friends. Emvee however she doesn't know what to think of and Fang...well she doesn't like him at all.

Carmine stalked forward and gave Dusk a harsh slap across the face. The breath was knocked out of her, and her head rebounded against the wall. She let out a soft cry as fire seemed to explode across her face. She could already feel her face swelling and she was sure her face was already bruising. To make matters worse, Carmine split her skin, giving her a narrow cut down her cheekbone. Her fear started her breathing in rapidly, and her chest rose and fell faster as panic set in.
”Don’t speak that rudely again to anyone here or next time it will be worse than a bruised cheek you will get to your pretty face.”
Dusk remained silent, refusing to give in, yet not mustering the strength to rebel which would ensure a harsher punishment. Carmines hand whisked out and gripped Dusks chin painfully, jerking it upwards and forcing her to look into Carmine's cold eyes.
”We found them all little kitten, running for their lives. No one escapes; no one like you will get out of here unless it’s in a body bag. Each one of them is being punished for running away, they’ve been told for years it’s bad to do that.”
Dusk let out a sob, her small frame shaking from terror and worry. Her eyes glazed over slightly as she thought about the others...each being tortured.
Please...no.
She couldn't get the words out, her face on fire as it was. She felt her wrists grabbed tightly, before she felt herself dragged out of the white room. Dusk felt numb, she didn't bother struggling. All of them, back. She couldn't bare to think of all of them in cells, each being tortured for a crime that simply included surviving. Mat, back in the arena, Ash subject to watching his pain, Nudge back to being beaten with Faith, Amp

The tears started to roll down her face, as she squeezed her eyes shut. In all her time at the lab, she'd avoided tears, thinking herself stronger, but not, with imminent death and torture for everyone she was close to, she didn't bother holding them back.
The further down they went, the more the screams echoes through, and sharp stabs of pain filtered through her flexible web of emotional turmoil. Every now and then, her body jerked as though a knife went through her hand, or a whip down her back.
Her back hit the stairs they went down as Carmine continued to drag her to her future...Dusk was sure she didn't want to know.

She continued down the halls, the screams echoing around her actually felt calming right now. She was starting to feel better, knowing that someone was causing pain to the mutants here. She dragged Dusk into the closest empty room and shoved her inside, letting her fall to the ground and closed the door. She took a few steps towards Dusk and the center of the room. She grabbed the chain that hung from ceiling and gave it a small yank to bring it down. Bending down to the girl on the floor Carmine grabbed her by the hair and pulled her harshly to her feet and swiftly chained her wrists together. Stepping back she went to the other end of the chain that was latched to the wall, she pulled on it until Dusk’s feet were barely touching the ground.

She knew by the way she talking back in the testing room that she was protective of someone, which one of the mutants she wasn’t sure. She remembered the ones Eriyk had told her about that were at the hospital and the ones Camelion told her escaped the Institution, it had to be them. She just wasn’t too sure exactly which one was the one would be the best one to make her break. ”You’re so new little kitten, don’t yet know all the rules here.” She walked over to the rack of various supplies and pulled down a silver colored whip. ”So I think you’ll get a lighter treatment than the others will, they know the rules after all.” She uncoiled the whip and brought it down hard against Dusk’s back, the silver metal tearing off strips of skin like her custom glove would do. She smiled as blood started to run down the girl’s back almost immediately. ”How nice to think, that they will suffer more than you will.” She brought the whip down a second time, and a third.

Dusk
Image

Dusk felt herself dumped onto the floor. She lay there limp and unmoving before Carmine started to come back. Panic rose and Dusk backed up before the woman grabbed a large chain that hung from the ceiling. The chain came tumbling down, and Dusk felt a sharp pain on her scalp as Carmine lifted her by her hair. She let out a soft sob before both wrists were jammed in the thick, black shackles joined to the chain. As her hair was released, Dusk stumbled forward trying to regain her balance before a harsh jerk upwards caused her whole body to be forced upwards. The black shackles immediately dug into her thin wrists, and the pain caused Dusk to desperately try to stand, dragging the tips of her toes into the concrete. The attempt failed, she was just too far from the floor to allow her to relieve her wrists, her toes uselessly moving across the cold floor. Her efforts only managed to sink her further into the shackles, as her hands desperately clawed at the above chain so she could hold on using her hands rather than her wrists. It was no good, her body wasn't made for strength, and her grip on the chain slipped, causing her to sink jarringly back into the cuffs.
She let out a strangled moan as the metal cut into her wrists.
”You’re so new little kitten, don’t yet know all the rules here.”
Dusk shivered, as she hung vulnerably from the chain, trying to awkwardly twist around to see what Carmine was doing. She regretted it, she automatically let the chain swing her back to facing that wall, trying not to think of what was about to come. Her breath came in shallow gasps, her position making it difficult to breath properly. The image of the silver whip refused to remove itself from her mind, her terror was plain.
”So I think you’ll get a lighter treatment than the others will, they know the rules after all.”
Suddenly the soft whistle of the whip came towards her and a sharp explosion of pain tumbled down her back. Dusk let out a tortured scream, yanking down on the chains in her pain. Her body trembled at the aftershock of the blow, her head fell forward allowing her dark hair to hide her face as it contorted in a mixture of horror and fear. She could feel hot blood running from the lash down her back as the pain settled to a dull roar.
”How nice to think, that they will suffer more than you will.”
Her head jerked upwards, her green eyes now misty with pain and guilt.
"Carmine...please" her voice rose to another scream as the whip laid open her back for a second time. Her wrists jerked again causing the cuts to start realise blood down her slender hands. She opened her mouth to beg again when the whip whistled down again, causing the words to lodge in her throat and another cry to fall out. Her eyes rolled back into her head as her body jerked once again.
"Please...let them go" she managed to gasp "I'll do literally anything just don't...don't
"
Her words wouldn't form properly, she knew it was futile, yet she had to beg. Her mind couldn't cope with the thought of anything worse than what she was going through. She hung limp in the chains, pleading Carmine with her eyes, imploring her to spare the rest of them.

Dusk’s screams from the whip were like music to her. She could tell the girl hadn’t gone through serious pain before. Her screams contained a mixture of fear, and agony that she only heard from many of the newer mutants. The ones that had been in this situation many times didn’t have the same type of scream, which mainly had defeat ringing through it, and muted agony. She found it a bit frustrating that after awhile they stop screaming as they figure out it does no good, and find ways of blocking out what was being done to them.

She chuckled, ”You think I need your cooperation? I can do anything with you that needs to be done. Bargaining isn’t going to change anyone’s situation.” She brought the whip down again upon the girl’s back, watching the line of blood appear and slowly slide down her slender back. ”Remember little kitten, your punishment is less than theirs.” She brought the whip down one more time making sure the sharp silver cut through fabric, skin, and muscle. She brought the whip up sharply so it nicked at the girl’s cheek before she rolled it up in her hand. He went over to Dusk, running her finger along the thin line of blood on her cheek. ”Red is a nice color on you.” She laughed and turned to the wall of weapons, hanging the still dripping whip on the wall and went to the door to leave.

_Eriyk_

He did bring it upon himself; he just didn’t expect the man to be so well trained. He came at him full force and put all his weight into each punch that he threw. He hadn’t had an opponent this good in some time and he was a little rusty with his defense, but he seemed to be doing well as he wasn’t hit too badly, and his defenses weren’t faltering. He was actually having a bit of fun, and watching the man’s movements, looking for any kind of pattern and lapse in his technique. He was caught off guard once again at his proposal, three good hits, and he would train the others for a week. It seemed like a pretty good deal to him, he had nothing to lose, and three punches would be achievable enough.

He would take it, nothing to lose, only gain. He waited for two more punches, then caught the man’s wrist with one hand, blocked the next punch with his own wrist of his free hand and drove a full weighted punch to his side. He knew it wasn’t strong enough to do too much damage, but might leave him breathless for a few beats. In a few quick steps he was out of reach and let him regain his stance. ”Sounds fine to me, would you rather get this over quickly or are we going to draw this out for awhile longer?”

She left the room, letting dusk just hang there. She knew that she wasn’t going to let the girl’s punishment end there. But she wasn’t too sure exactly how to continue. She headed down the hall, rubbing Dusk’s blood between her fingers. She was most likely splattered with the red crimson, and she brushed at her cheek smearing some of it. The guards she passed all gave her a wide birth, not getting close when she was covered in red was a smart idea as she could turn on them too if she wasn’t entirely focused on what she was doing. She walked a bit blankly down the hall towards her office, not entirely noticing the crowd that had gathered around the doors and were looking inside.

Two guards were dragging out a third that was whimpering and mumbling to himself, he looked close to the mutants that were broken in the cells. The guards stopped and stared at her, looking nervous at each other. ”What are you staring at and get him strapped down in one of the rooms.” The guards nodded and hurriedly walked away. She shook her head and went to her office and saw Camelion standing in front of another woman, and the color was drained from her face. She sighed, ”Camelion, leave my staff be, they have jobs they need to get back to.” With the second half of her sentence she shot a glare at the woman who then rushed off quickly like a frightened rabbit. Carmine sighed again and shook her head. ”They need to learn to be more emotionless, some emotions can be such weaknesses.”

Dusk
Image

”You think I need your cooperation? I can do anything with you that needs to be done. Bargaining isn’t going to change anyone’s situation.”
Dusk let out a painful gasp, her body hanging limply in the chains. Her hands were going numb as the blood drained from them. Suddenly the whip laid open her back for the fourth time. She let out another exhausted scream, her throat aching from the sound. A choked cry left her mouth straight after, as the aftermath of the pain bore down on her. She could feel the blood slowly trickle down her back.
”Remember little kitten, your punishment is less than theirs.”
Dusk couldn't even muster the strength to reply, instead allowing tears of pain and guilt to role down her features. The whip bit into her flesh for the fifth time, the pain echoing deeper than before. Her hoarse scream followed, her throat becoming husky and raw from screaming.
The whip flicked up, cutting open her cheek. Dusk waited for another lash, but none was forthcoming. Carmine's face suddenly appeared in her view point. The woman ran her finger along the cut, causing it to sting, though the pain was easily drowned out by her back and wrists.
”Red is a nice color on you.”
Carmine's mocking laugh rang in Dusk's ears as she was forced to endure it. Then Carmine left.
The shock registered in Dusk's green eyes. A mixture of relief and worry flowed through her. On one hand Dusk had been sure her punishment would be drawn out as long as Carmine could think of, and the realisation that she'd left gave Dusk a small amount of hope that she'd been forgotten for a while. This however bought a fresh stab of fear. How long would she be forced to hang by her damaged wrists? She let out an involuntary moan as the pain continued to set in. Then what was Carmine doing now? This also gave a fresh stab of fear. What if she was finding some other instrument?...and what of the others?
Her thoughts started to run out of order, and eventually she gave up thinking. It wasn't as though she would be able to change anything. Dusk hung limply, as the chains dug further into her wrists, her weight slowly forcing the metal into her wrists. She let her head fall forward as she squeezed her eyes shut trying to block out the thoughts and sound. Whilst the punishment had gone on, Dusk had been oblivious to the pain around her, however now the emotions were back, battering themselves against her mental shield.
The guilt of the others being punished far more severely than herself started to overwhelm her, and in a sudden flash of pain, Dusk gave herself over to the emotions, no longer caring. Silently, each of the mutants around her shared their pain, as Dusk removed the thing protective web around her mind. The pain was starting to get unbearable, but she forced herself to grit her teeth and bare it, for all she knew one of those people was her friends.

She watched Camleion change his appearance into a small boy, making himself look small and with a nice whimper. He then smeared blood from his side onto his face to finish it off, putting the whole disguise into place. She smiled darkly and nodded, ”Oh yes, that’ll do. Let’s see what we can do with the little kitten.” This was the best idea she had had in a long while. She was used to just getting the desired results from having exactly what she needed for the specific job. This time she didn’t have the needed but having Camelion here would help out with that and probably make things a lot easier in the future to make sure things moved along faster. She wasn’t too used to having a thinking mutant helping her, she wasn’t sure she could even consider him mutant by how he acted and actually had conscious thought.

She pushed open the door, grabbing Camelion but the scruff and pulling him in roughly behind her and shoved him down to the ground. She hoped he didn’t think of struggling against her, she didn’t what Dusk getting any kind of hope that she would be able to fight against her. So it was best that he just let what happened, happen. She wouldn’t hurt him roughly but he had better be a darn good actor, he didn’t seem to mind pain that much so hopefully he could imitate what he had seen.

She went over the side where the chain holding Dusk above the ground was and released it. Not enough for her to try anything, but enough to give the girl’s damaged wrists some relief and give her just enough walking room maybe to reach where Camlieon was. ”Now little kitten, maybe you can talk some sense into this one. Maybe he won’t have to suffer more than he needs to, as long as one of you tells me something that I need to know.”

Dusk
Image

Dusk remained hanging , broken, her mind struggling to cope with the pain emanating from her back and wrists. She'd since put up a thick webbed barrier between her emotions and those around her, no longer able to cope with the pain. The web gave her temporary relief from the feelings around her, but also stopped her mind warning her of those approaching and their intent. A sudden scuffle outside, made her lift her head in new fear before the door smashed open.
The sight made Dusk gasp in a mixture of joy and horror.
Carmine dragged a thin, broken figure in by the back of his neck, before shoving him into the concrete floor.
"Amp?" Her cry was barely a whisper, one filled with both longing and terror. She'd wanted so badly to see him, yet the final realisation of where he was and who had control of them both was enough to bring tears to her eyes. She could also see that his side had been badly wounded, along with his face which was covered in blood, his dark hair falling over his eyes.
Abruptly the chains holding her slackened, causing her to fall to her knees. She'd been so wrapped up in what had happened to Amp, she'd failed to see Carmine behind her. The fall jarred her back, sending another bought of pain through the already raw nerves. Her wrists automatically felt some relief, the metal no longer cutting into her hands. There were deep cuts in both of them, and metal was slick with her blood. Even so, she didn't allow the pain to get to her too much, as she stumbled forward, half standing and half crawling to where Amp's limp form was. Her chains stopped her from getting to far, but just enough to reach out and touch him.
She gently laid his head in her lap, his hair still falling over his eyes.
"I'm so sorry" she whispered, gently cradling his limp form. Tears started to well in her eyes, and she failed to hold them back as they gently slipped down her face in silent sobs.
”Now little kitten, maybe you can talk some sense into this one. Maybe he won’t have to suffer more than he needs to, as long as one of you tells me something that I need to know.”
All the rebellion went straight out of Dusk at the sight of Amp. If anything happened to him because of her, she would never forgive herself.
"What do you need to know" she whispered, her voice barely audible. She didn't look at Carmine, instead focusing her attention on the limp form in front of her. She gently stoked his head, trying to remove herself from the situation. Carmine had her right where she wanted her. There was nothing Dusk could do to get out without putting Amp and the rest in danger.
"I promise I'll do anything
"

She smirked at the façade that Camelion was putting up, it was perfect, a simpering boy whimpering in Dusk’s lap. This would play out perfectly as long as she didn’t figure out the truth and see through Camelion’s disguise. Either way she had Dusk right where she needed to be, completely cooperative and in her control as long as she had some leverage against her. Now Carmine got an even better idea than before, she was just going to make sure Dusk was cooperative through anything else, and maybe have her emotionally broken as well with the help of Camelion in this form. But now, there was a chance to do even more, make sure Camelion’s information stood true and that maybe she could get this one to turn on the others, no longer feel the need to help them or care for them.

She went over to the pair swiftly kicking Camelion in the side, not hard enough to do more damage but enough to make it look like she broke a bone or two and sending him a few feet from Dusk. She reached down and pulled the girl up by the hair, making sure her fist held firm along the dark strands. ”I want the truth this time. No lies about who left with you and what they can do. As you can see, I wouldn’t be here if I knew. We only caught this one here..” She turned Dusk slightly so she could see Camelion, still in disguise as the boy. ”Because the others left him behind so they could get away. Don’t you think they should pay somewhat for leaving him behind? Looking out for only themselves?”

"Dusk
"
She felt Amp tighten in pain closer to her, and she gently held him.
Suddenly Carmine came over and gave him a hefty kick in the side, sending him rolling away from her.
"Amp
" her sharp cry was cut off as Carmine grabbed a handful of her hair, pulling her to her feet. She cried out at the sudden pain.
”I want the truth this time. No lies about who left with you and what they can do. As you can see, I wouldn’t be here if I knew. We only caught this one here..”
Carmine forced her to see Amp, curled up in the corner.
”Because the others left him behind so they could get away. Don’t you think they should pay somewhat for leaving him behind? Looking out for only themselves?”
Dusk's head was filled with a mixture of anger, confusion, pain and sorrow. Surely they wouldn't have...she knew them. Carmine could easily be lying...but what would she do even if she was lying? She couldn't stay silent and let Amp getting killed in front of her...and what of Blast? She'd almost forgot about the second consciousness in Amps mind. Amp seemed currently beyond able to tell her anything.
Her face creased in pain as Carmine continued to hold her up by her hair.
"Blast?" her voice was strained to keep her from crying out. "Tell me it isn't true
"
But even if Carmine was lying...Amp/Blast were in danger of dying.
She was tempted to beg Carmine, implore her not to ask, however the futility of the action was already clear from Carmine's previous questions. As the tears fell thicker and faster she managed to gasp out the answers

"One controls fire and shadow
" her voice dropped to a pained whisper, she refused to say their names, it hurt to betray them like this "another can't feel pain, controls the wind
"
Her voice rose to a sob. Her guilt and horror of her giving up the information snapped. She found herself retreating into her mind, desperately trying to hold back hysteria. The mixture of the lashes, torn wrists, seeing Amp back, ready to be tortured and betraying the rest of them was quickly breaking her down, beyond healing.
She had been a fool to believe she'd hold out...to think she'd avoid that broken look in the eyes. No doubt her own now held that un-healable pain etched into their green irises.
Her hands raised to her face, hiding her tears as her body continued to rack with sobs. Carmine couldn't possibly make her loose more...the thougth was cut short as she realised just how much worse the whole thing could get. Currently the rest were free and now she'd just given the information to capture them. Amp was still alive...
She refused to think of the end of the sentence as she gave up, haning limply in Carmine's house, completely drained from her previous rebellion.

Carmine’s mouth lifted into a smile, hand loosening on Dusk’s hair just slightly. The girl was breaking, she could see that in her eyes, as she saw in almost all of the mutants she had here and had broken many times before. They all got that hallow, broken looking in their eyes that most would see and knew they couldn’t fix if they tried. Dusk was close to that, by the way she was crying and her sentences stopped with more sobs that shook her body told her that she wasn’t likely to get anymore answers out of the girl. She let go of her, letting her fall to the ground and gave her swift kick in the back along the whip marks she had made earlier. ”See, things would have a lot easier on you if you had cooperated the first time. Maybe you’ll learn its best not to defy me.”

She went over to Camelion who had put up a nice show the whole time and grabbed a hand full of hair to bring him to his feet, satisfied that he had is eyes closed as If in pain. She pulled him with her to the door and opened it, shoving him through and ignoring any protests from Dusk, shutting the door in her face. She smiled to Camelion, pulling him along out of sight of the window and finally letting him go. ”Excellent show, thank you for your help. Hopefully when we find the others it will be just as easy.” She headed down the hall towards the healer's quarters.

Dusk
Image

In the midst of her grief, Dusk felt Carmine's hold on her hair relax slightly...just before she suddenly let go, causing Dusk to fall hard into the harsh concrete floor. Suddenly severe pain exploded across her back causing her to let out a scream of pain, as Carmine kicked her already damaged back. The scabs that had begun to form immediately ripped open, each of the five lashes replaying the previous episode. The blue, purplish tinge of a large bruise already forming under the thin, blood soaked grey dress.
”See, things would have a lot easier on you if you had cooperated the first time. Maybe you’ll learn its best not to defy me.”
Carmine's words went straight over Dusks head, as she struggled to comprehend the new pain. She failed to move, no longer able to muster the motivation to get up, when Carmine moved over to Amp. Dusk watched in horror as Carmine yanked Amp to his feet by his hair. Dusk scrambled forward, a sharp cry of protest as Carmine dragged Amp out of the room. She hurried forward as quickly as her physical state would allow, before the door was slammed in her face.
"Amp!" The scream tore from her already hoarse voice as she pelted the door with her fists, damaging her wrists further. Eventually the pain stopped her, and she slumped against the metal door, before holding her head in her hands. The tears refused to ebb, mixing with the blood on her hands. Her back now bruised and cut open continued to pain her, and lack of blood began to slowly drag her already failing mind into darkness. Her mind was no longer awake enough to move her out of harms way of the door being opened again.
As her consciousness began to gently fade, all Dusk could think of was the others. The ones she had betrayed. Amp/Blasts silence on the matter only confirmed to her that Carmine had lied...and she had betrayed them. Matt back tortured and in the games, no longer able to protect Ash. And Ash. No doubt the lab would find a way to hold her, and force her to relinquish her freedom. Her last thought was of Amp. The horrendous look on Carmines face only increased her fears. No doubt he would be tortured, and all Dusk could pray was that Carmine had be wrong.
Please don't let him suffer more than me...Her fears only increased, at the realisation that he well might not make it. He'd survived around seventeen years here, to finally get free before being dragged back. How could a mind cope with that?
She let out a sob before the darkness finally took over, dragging her sweetly away to unconsciousness.

Kyra
Kyra was still inside Camelion's head. She had watched Dusk give in and tell the truth about everyone.... A mere whisper of Kyra's old self came back and then.... A pain exploded inside her head, throwing Kishan's mental walls and barriers aside, letting everything rush back in like a tsunami wave. She remembered the scientists weren't her friend, Matt, Dusk, Ash, and Amp were her friends. The games were where she killed many others, where she was treated like an animal. The gaurds were killers, people who weren't people at all but mindless bodies that harmed her.

Dark boiling rage filled her, made her want to destroy anything she could get her hands on. Made her want to sink her teeth into Camelion's jugular and watch as the life drained painfully from his limbs. She wanted to kill! Kyra felt herself slipping out of Camelion's head and into Dusk's.

Kyra felt and saw through Dusk's head, as the human girl was starting to fall asleep. No! No! Wake up! Dusk! Kyra roared into Dusk's head, hoping, wanting, needing the girl to stay awake. Dusk! Please! I remember now! Please... She felt Dusk's pain. It was wrong, and it hurt Kyra 10x worse. Dusk's pain only fueled her, making her angry. Kyra paused for a moment, and then tried a different tactic. She gathered up Kishan's old barriers and threw them into Dusk, using the barriers to block the pain, rerouting the pain into Kyra.

She felt the pain and used it as fuel to take more pain, and to hopefully wake Dusk up.

Dusk
Image

Just as Dusk was on the brink of slipping into unconsciousness a presence slipped into her mind
No! No! Wake up! Dusk! Dusk! Please! I remember now! Please

She found herself continuing to slip away, the pain dragging her down when suddenly barriers were thrown against them, causing the pain to stop. The sudden pause allowed Dusk to finally have clarity of thought.
Kyra...The thought was a mixture of longing, fear and guilt. All at once she wanted Kyra, the Kyra that had saved her life back, yet the remembrance of her in the hallway sent fear through her...and then the guilt. She'd just betrayed the rest of them.
She could feel Kyra's rolling anger, though she could tell it was directed at the guards.
Kyra. The others...I betrayed them. A wave of utter terror and guilt went through Dusk at the confession. They have Amp
The familiar warmth of tears flowed down her face.
Kyra, you have to get him back. Her thoughts were tainted with pain and sorrow. I'm so sorry.
The door behind her was suddenly pushed forward, jamming it into her back, the sudden added pain breaking through the barriers. Dusk let out a cry as the pain came rushing back.
She found herself falling onto the floor, face pressed into the cold floor. She glanced up finding a female healer in front of her.
She must look a mess to her. Her sliced open cheek, lashed back, torn, bloody wrists, knife wounds in both hands and ankles as well as the bandaged and damaged sides. Dusk didn't bother getting up, instead allowing the pain to wash over her as she took in each ragged breath.
The healers found me Kyra. Get Amp out of here.

Kyra and Kishan
Kyra was trying to contain herself from pulling out of Dusk's mangled form and into her own. She wanted so badly to destroy something, anything that she could get her hands on. She knew that Dusk was guilty and she wasn't going to have it. Dusk, pull yourself together. I know what happened. Kyra's anger seemed to cool for a moment. You didn't betray them... You DIDN'T. I'll come for you... Just hang on a bit longer. Kyra pulled out of Dusk's head.

The first thing Kishan did when he saw Kyra's eyes open was let out a sigh of relief which was quickly followed by fear when he felt the anger and energy rolling off her. Kyra snarled, baring her teeth and punched Kishan in the jaw. She heard a sickening crunch and knew she had probably shattered half his face. Kishan pulled away and morphed into the white tiger, gnashing his already healing jaws. He knew she wasn't under his control anymore. Her eyes weren't baby blue anymore, but a feirce glowing type of gold.

"You son of a bitch!" Kyra spat at him as she ripped the collar off her neck and threw it at his face. "Lying, murderous, idiot!" She was shaking with anger. Her fists were clenched, and dripping red from her own claws. I should rip you apart! Tear you limb from limb! Gut you like a catfish! Tear your eyes out and stuff them down your throat so you can watch as my claws rip you apart! She shouted the rest into his head, forcing him to listen to her screaming rage, and from the looks of it, he wasn't at all happy with it.

Kishan was trying to move, to slap Kyra and force her to listen as he used his power on her, but he couldn't. Kyra was controlling him, making him stand still, making him listen. His cobalt blue eyes were shining with determination and anger, but that did him no good.

Kyra's eyes were flashing from golden to green, constantly changing, never staying the same color for more than a second. She wanted to kill him, but she needed to get to Dusk. Dusk. Dusk. Friend. Friend. Not enemy. The tiger side of her was surfacing but she pushed it back down and... She changed.

Kishan tried to change shape but he couldn't, because his stomach was burning. The blood in his veins felt cold, and strange, painful, while his insides were burning. It hurt so badly! He felt the need to vomit and to claw at his stomach to rid himself of this pain, but he stood frozen, transfixed on Kyra's changing eyes. I want you to feel this pain. Feel it, and live with it. Until one being finally cares about you will the pain stop and the one who cares will die. The voice in his head was magnetic, compelling and yet, filled with so much sadness.

Kyra released Kishan from the stiffness she placed in him and watched as he kneeled over. She watched him writhing on the ground, clawing at his stomach and smiled at the blood that he cut free himself. Her eyes were a deep black abyss, nothing in them to show. Giving a nodd of approval she walked down the hallway, toward Dusk's location, beheading anyone who got in her way with one quick blow.

~Carmine~

Now that she was mostly done with what she had planned to do she knew that she had to fallow through with her deal with Camelion, she would have to find a way to get this spider mutant from inside the Institution. But who to send
she got an idea, as many were searching for the lost mutants, she could find another use for Peter Tykwer, send him in, looking like a scientist, amsk or not he may be able to blend in, and be able to bring the mutant back.

_Eriyk_

Eriyk smiled, the man could bring a, and had a great defense as well, but he had been in enough fights and been trained well enough to see the holes in all of it, granted he had some himself, no one could be perfect. He got back in his stance, guess it was his turn to be on offense, test out this man’s defenses. He went forward with a flurry of jabs and punches, just simple things so Eriyk could learn this man’s defenses well and find the chinks that he could get through. Once he found a repeated drop in his defenses, he went for it and sent a hard punch right to his shoulder, which caused him to falter and his arm lowered. He hooked his foot behind the man’s and yanked back, so he would lose his balance and stumble, with this he hit him one last time, a hard punch to the face, enough to give him a bloody nose but not hard enough to break anything, though it was quite noticeable that with the tremor of his arm that he held back greatly in order not to hurt the man farther. ”Seems that’s three

Healer

The woman looked down at the girl in front of her, she girl was badly wounded, back cut open, cheek cut, wrists badly damaged and it looked as if older wounds had been reopened. She knelt down, gently patting the girl’s untouched cheek, it seemed that was the only place she wasn’t hurt or covered in red. ”Wake up child, don’t sleep. You’ve lost a lot of blood, stay awake for me, just for a little while then you can rest.” Her gentle voice was probably out of place in here, but she knew that the badly wounded needed some kind of gentleness to off balance all the pain that they went through. She couldn’t stop what happened but at least she could lessen the pain and help them to heal best she could. She very carefully lifted the girl, careful to make sure not to hurt her too much and headed back to the Healer’s area, she would make sure the girl stayed there until she was better, maybe even fed if she could get her hands on some decent food.

Dusk

Dusk, pull yourself together. I know what happened. . . You didn't betray them... You DIDN'T. I'll come for you... Just hang on a bit longer.
Kyra! I did...I don't want you to come, get Amp out of here. He can't die. Kyra? Kyra?
Her mind almost howled Kyra's name, but the presence was gone, and the pain came rushing back. She wondered briefly if her mind had simply snapped, imagining Kyra's voice to try and get her to stay alive. Quite frankly she didn't want to live. If Carmine had Amp and was about to get the others, why was it even worth living.
The woman in front of her gently touched Dusks clean cheek, trying to rouse her.
”Wake up child, don’t sleep. You’ve lost a lot of blood, stay awake for me, just for a little while then you can rest.”
Dusk was shocked at the gentleness of the touch and voice, half expecting to be beaten again.
Her eyes visibly dimmed at the mention of staying awake. Why should she bother. Her face was smudged with blood and the grime from the floor, and her whole demeanour should a lack of interest in staying alive. She felt herself gently lifted, but couldn't hold back an involuntary cry as her back was touched. She didn't bother struggling allowing herself to go limp in the woman's arms. Every movement was painful, the slightest jolt, simply stabbing into one of the damaged areas. Her hand hung down as the woman picked her up, carrying her out of the torture chamber.
Without Kyra's presence, Dusk found herself once again at the mercy of the beckons of sleep. She couldn't care less what the nurse said. Living simply meant more pain here.
"If you really cared you'd let me sleep and die, or kill me yourself" she whispered, before closing her eyes, letting her consciousness drag her away. The pain was too much.
She felt the pain dim as her mind started to stray...

_Eriyk_

He was truly surprised when his fist didn’t connect with a head and instead met the open air. Jeeze this man could move fast, he was unprepared when legs came up and wrapped around his neck, and pulled him forward. He saw the ground come up fast and he was going to roll forward to stop the fall but he knew he was too close and would snap his neck that way. He hit the ground and blinked a few times, his head ringing. But he was far from helpless, true he hadn’t been brought down in a long while, but that didn’t mean he was just going to stay on the floor. He saw a foot coming right at his head and he lunged his body to the side to avoid the blow and grabbed the man’s leg once it planted on the ground. He tugged up while he quickly forced himself back on his feet, causing the man to fall flat on his back. He brought his leg up behind him to deliver a hard kick to the man’s side and hopefully cause him to fly out of the ring.

scientist

He walked along behind the guards, he had learned long ago not to walk in front because the mutants seemed to get more feral around him rather than the guards. He found that reasonable, he changed them, and made them they way they were, the guards just disciplined them or beat them for fun. He motioned to a room and the guards dragged the squirming mutant in and to the table in the middle of the room, strapping down her legs, arms, and a strap went across her chest. The guards left the mutant alone and stood back, staying on the inside of the door incase the mutant somehow got out of the bonds. The scientist went over the counter that ran around the room, and wrote something down on a clipboard. He picked up a small flashlight and a few other tools and went over to the mutant who seemed to be trying to avoid the bright light above her. He held her head firm and opened one eye, shining the light in it, and then opened her mouth, placing one of the tools inside to keep her jaws open.

Healer

The woman frowned at the girl’s response. She glanced around making sure she was out of hearing range of guards or scientists, she hated they way the mutants were treated, so beaten and broken, and she knew that they were probably nice children and people. ”I’m sorry child, I won’t let you die. Help you heal yes, let you die no. There are others that need that release more than you right now
” She took her to the back corner of one of the Healer’s quarters, the woman liked having one of the back corridors, she could make sure the mutants stayed there, got well, fed regularly and untouched, seeing as the guards weren’t allowed to stay longer than dropping someone off, and the healers usually went and brought the mutants back anyway.

She gently laid Dusk down on her stomach on one of the cots in the room. A few others were occupied, as a few found out she would let them stay a bit longer than it took for their wounds to heal and regularly found ways to be sent back here without the continual beatings. The woman got a rag and a bucket of warm water and slowly started to clean out Dusk’s wounds.

Kyra
Kyra took in the bloody scene before and smiled, her black eyes sparkling evily. Headless bodies layed in the hallways, blood splattered on the floor and walls, and the heads rolling on the ground. She would have killed many others, had it not been for Dusk, she would have kept killing. None the less, she had to go and retrieve the human girl, which meant she had to grab a hold of her lust for death. Retraining herself she opened the door that would lead to the torture room Dusk was held in.

Gone. Kyra's black eyes blinked but knelt down, touched the blood on the ground and smelt it. Dusk's blood. A low growl started in her chest as she smelt another scent in the room. A healer had been here. And had taken Dusk with her. Kyra would destroy this Healer and cause her so much pain, she would be glad Kyra killed her. Kyra stood, her hands clenched into fists she turned and followed the Healer's scent trail to the Healer's Qaurters.

Dusk
Image

”I’m sorry child, I won’t let you die. Help you heal yes, let you die no. There are others that need that release more than you right now
”
Dusk stiffened involuntarily at the words, the pain raw in her eyes. The others were in a far worse condition too. Her chest felt like it was constricting and her whole body felt lethargic and slow at the thought of what was happening within the other chambers. Her small frame shook slightly as she tried to control the on slaughter of emotions. All she wanted was to have the others free and out of this place...herself too, but they had gone through far worse than she had. She wondered briefly if they thought about her too. The thought made her eyes water again. No they shouldn't think of her, she'd been the one to betray them and cause them more pain.
The slight jostling movement stopped, and glancing around Dusk realised they were back in the healing hall...for the second time that day. She felt herself gently laid on her stomach on one of the cots.
"Did you see were they took the boy with the deep blue eyes and dark hair?" Dusk whispered, ignoring the warning of the previous healer not to talk to them.
That was when the woman started cleaning out the wounds in her back. She let out a cry at the contact, before quickly biting back the sound. She clenched her jaw, struggling to keep the urge to scream or cry out. Her whole back was tender, and she tried to avoid thinking of the pain all the others would be going through.
She wondered briefly of Nudge, still lying back in the cell, and Faith. Praying that perhaps Carmine wouldn't put the two together. If either of them died because of her she would lose it further...if Carmine hadn't already pushed her too far. Dusk mentally cursed the woman, fear and sorrow running through her at the thought of the pain she would cause to all the others.
