Description

Rank: Deputy Chief Medical Officer
Species: Jakyu
Age: 26 in Earth years.
Gender: Female
Description: Virjok Ru is of a humanoid species from the L class planet known as Jakya 3 to most other species as the real name is difficult to pronounce for outsiders, the planet being mostly desert with little water and is smaller than Earth. The lower gravity has allowed Virjok, like all born on her planet, to grow to great height, standing at roughly 6 foot 2 with a thin, athletic frame. She has tough, dark reddish-purple skin, completely black eyes and medium length, maroon 'hair' which appears quite quill-like and is highly sensitive, similar to a cat's whiskers in function. Her bones have a similar structure to humans though they are not composed of calcium but rather a much stronger metal (she has a hard time getting through airports ;P), the key difference is that she possesses a smaller second pair of arms a little less than a foot below the normal sized ones with 3 fingers on each hand. Lieutenant Ru wears no shoes as none of the standard ones provided accommodate her clawed feet, her hands having only sharp nails but the main pair with 4 fingers. She speaks English well but her native language comprises mainly of odd clicking sounds (many of which are inaudible to humans), some pheromones and complex body language, thus having superior hearing and smell in addition to her heightened reflexes but a very... strange accent. The Doctor requires more light to see and higher temperatures than humans because of her species, she is fairly good looking as far as Jakyu go.

Personality

Lieutenant Virjok Ru is a very excitable alien, friendly and eager to learn like many of her species despite the harshness of their home planet, Jakya 3's deserts. Still, even by them she is considered eccentric, overly curious and often conducting strange experiments on herself, she has a habit of hypothesizing the chemical composition of her food before eating it 'just for fun'. The Doctor has always had an aptitude for biology, like many of her species, and is not terribly good with much complex technology but is very intelligent and cunning at times. She is a little hyperactive, having a hard time sitting still for long periods of time, is playful and loves to make jokes with a very upbeat demeanor, finding new diseases or medical conditions interesting and exciting unfortunately often informing her patient of her interest which is unsettling at the best of times. Still, she is very caring and affectionate towards others, always helping her patients to the best of her ability and then some but doesn't take bad news about them well. She dislikes violence unless it is necessary and alien body language confusing, often misinterpreting what others mean because of it. She prefers to be called Doctor rather than Ensign as it makes her feel to much like a soldier and is often seen working out or otherwise exercising. Fears the dark and cold but loves fast paced music and sport as well as science.

History

Virjok Ru was born on the desert plains of Jakya 3, her intelligence and enthusiasm for science being recognized at a young age, beginning her basic schooling earlier than most and excelling in it. She studied biology and medicine intensely, fascinated by species other than her own especially those from other planets and was quickly becoming an expert doctor, her species reaching adulthood at 17 though relatively long-lived. Finally she was presented with a chance to study new species and their physiology when her race made first contact with humans whom landed on her planet. At first they were treated with some suspicion as the last warp-capable alien species which landed on Jakya intended to take control of it, resulting in a 20 year long war between them which destroyed much of the already sparse native life. But once they learned of the Federation and its purpose they quickly opened up to the outsiders, intrigued by Star Fleet and eventually seeking to join it. Though many years ago they were a caste-based civilization the strain of the 20 year war dissolved this segregation and they were accepted as part of the United Federation of Planets.

Curious to find more about all the new species of Star Fleet, their physiology and, to an extent, their culture Virjok decided the best course of action was to enroll in their academy on Earth. At the time there were no official transport vessel between the two world but she managed to stow aboard a trade ship and arrived there with little more than the clothes on her back. Her achievements as a biologist made on Jakya 3 were not recognized and neither was her adulthood for that matter but she took the entrance exams for the Academy after her application was grudgingly accepted, not wanting the Jakyu government to feel they were being left out for any reason. Vir's natural talent and practiced skill allowed her to pass beginning her initial training and eventually moving onto the Star Fleet Medical Academy. She graduated as the valedictorian for her year and was quickly assigned to the U.S.S Pandora as the Romulan threat became apparent to be the Deputy CMO.
