Introduction
But the Federation weren't the only ones to come out of the war with their fleet relatively intact. There are now two superpowers in the Alpha Quadrant, the Federation and the Romulan Empire, and the Romulans are trying to capitalise on the weakness of the other fleets. With the fleets pushing into Klingon and Cardassian territory, the pleas to the Federation are numerous, but even with their fleet relatively intact, they just don't have the ships to deal with every plea.
The drydocks are a flurry of activity, building new ships as quick as they can. The academy is graduating any that they deem suitable for it, rather than just those who have completed their training. Those being graduated early are given vocational training on board their starships, supervised from a distance by Academy lecturers. Promotions are rife, and not always well advised. Ships are running with less crew than they used to, leading to harder workshifts.
Among the new vessels being built is the Prometheus class. It was never tested properly, as the first prototype, the Voyager disappeared without warning, but the designers are adamant that it is the best option in the current circumstances, able to act as a single ship and crew, but if the tactical situation demands it, able to fulfill the role of three vessels. The new Multi-Vectored Assault Mode (MVAM) however, is not perfect, and has been known to have issues in its operation.
The first Prometheus class vessel to be completed is the U.S.S. Pandora, NCC-1903. Captained by James Carnis, an experienced Captain with several vessels in his repertoire.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STORY SO FAR:
The Federation is in trouble, the Romulans are pushing into their territory left right and centre, in response, Starfleet started constructing a second prototype Prometheus class vessel, the U.S.S. Pandora. The project was kept under the utmost secrecy, and the crew that were chosen for it knew nothing of their new assignment until they reached the Utopia Planetia spacedocks. The ship is due to launch in a fortnight, and the crew are rapidly being introduced to their new ship and the other crewmembers.
The Department Heads have been invited to an informal dinner in the Officer's Mess, set for the evening after Captain Carnis' arrival.
What will happen next? Where will the new vessel and her crew be sent? What dangers and adventures lie ahead for them? Find out soon!

"That's Ensign Masato, sir. " Andrus responded. "He's fresh from the acadamy, probably having trouble with the new system architecture. I'll go check if he needs any help."
Andrus walks over to Masato who was busy working on his console.
"Do you need any assistance ensign?" Andrus gently asked.

La'Piri pointed to the first Vulcan, a tall, pale skinned male with short black hair who appeared to be in his thirties (Earth speculation). "This is Ensign Serith, he served with me on the U.S.S. Synergy." The Vulcan flashed the traditional Vulcan simple and nodded to the other Ensign.
The Vulcan next to him stepped up, extending his hand. He was the shorter of the two. His skin had a blue tint to it that showed in his black hair as well, giving him an otherworldly look. "Ensign Y'Tu*." He blinked and waited for her to shake his hand.
The human pipped up from the back, walking to the woman, "Jacob Williamson." He smiled and extended his hand.

Kouji jumped at the sound, not expecting anyone to be behind him. He turned around suddenly and with a panicked voice, said "I-I-I wasn't slacking! Er, Sir! Just um, just making triply sure I got the systems down!" Kouji had his hand raised in solute. "Th-there were several bugs and kinks in the system, so I quickly resolved the problem! At least, I think I did..." He glanced back at the console. "I wasn't sure if I had gotten rid of the problem completely, so I was just checking the systems a fourth time, to make sure it really was resolved, but then I keep finding other bugs and kinks to fix, and..." Kouji continued to ramble without realizing.

"My apologizes, I often forget humans and other life forms do not share the bond Vulcans commonly do. Your duties, Ensign, at the moment, are to get settled in. I suggest you proceed with caution, don't make enemies - this could lead to a swift downfall." She nodded to him and went back to examining a large row of needle-less syringes.
Jacob nodded to the Deputy and took off towards his quarters, eager to see the new ship in all its glory.
Piri looked to Dr. Ru, "Once we're done examining these, we'll retire to our quarters for the night, I suggest you do the same. We'll convene in later, when time permits." She moved on to one of the beds, smoothing out the sheet on it. She had to keep busy or she'd slip. Life seemed to be zooming by her quicker than she had thought it would; she was already a Chief Medical Officer. Her hands moved over the lines of bottles, like Klingon soldiers, lining up for battle. The universe seemed infinite to Piri. To her, it wasn't something to be conquered, but rather, something to be cherished and molded - not beaten into shape. Violence wasn't the way to win. That's why she became a doctor, to help save lives so that maybe this war would end, and peace could return to the universe.
She snapped back into reality when Serith walked over to her, looked into her eyes and said, "Be careful. The road you travel on is steeper than you may have first judged."
She nodded and straightened, walking out of the bay, towards her room. She needed to meditate.

"Your doing a fine job ensign, don't worry too much." Andrus said, trying to calm down Kouji. "I can finish up here if you could go and check the Replicator on deck 8. Reports are coming in that it's not replicating correctly."
Everything in the engineering room is going fine, he had to find someone to go fix that stupid replicator. Ensign Kouji seems to be the right person for the job.
"If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask another engineering officer or myself." he added.
OOC Notes
(sorry for short post, I'm tired)
OOC Notes
Kouji went to counseling for this kind of obsessive behavior of course, but the therapy sessions didn't help much at all. So now he was still the obsessive maid he saw himself as since childhood. He reached Deck 8. He felt his anxiousness come back, as people came and went. "Hey uh... where's the broken replicator?" He asked one of the officers. Once he got directions, he went to down the hall, and past the crowd of rushing workers, until he reached the replicator.
"Let's see what's wrong here..." He ordered a cup of regular coffee. He got the coffee. Just not the cup. "Hmm...maybe the problem here..." He opened up the hatch on the bottom of the machine, and looked into the machinery, and had assessed what was wrong with it. He picked up his tools and quickly went underway with the repairs.

Kouji had found himself gaping a bit, but quickly stood up and straightened himself out. "Th-the uh...the mess hall?" He stuttered. "Boy, um...I'm not sure exactly." He looked around, like he'd find it just lying on the ground or something. "Probably deck 7. Or 6...was it 7? No! 6! 6!" He nodded quickly. "Definitely 6!" He then turned around, then did one final thing before closing up the panel on the replicator. "Actually, the replicator here should work just fine now!" He turned to the machine. "At least...I think it should. Maybe... I dunno actually." He kept mumbling to himself in a worried attitude.
OOC Notes
La'Piri pulled herself from meditation, distracted by the overwhelming emotion seeping from someone outside her door. She stood up swiftly and walked to the door, opening it quietly, not surprised to see a messenger human, looking more confused than ever. "Yes?" Piri blinked at the messenger, awaiting his message.
The Corridor
He spluttered slightly, "Uh.. Erm... Well..." He coughed and fidgeted, "You're supposed to administer the vaccines before take off." He looked around wildly, hoping he hadn't said anything wrong.
Piri nodded and stepped past him, her door closing behind her. She stopped and turned around, looking at the messenger, "You may leave now." With a worried look in his eyes, he scattered quickly, still intimidated by the Vulcan. Piri closed her eyes, turned around and then opened them, only to be face to face with Serith. She stopped and looked at him, "Yes, Serith?"
He pulled a box out of his pack and handed it to her, "I already retrieved the vaccines." He looked at her intensely as she took the box.
"Thank you, Serith. Do you need anything else?" She returned the look, her blank face never showing emotion.
"No." Serith bowed slightly and stepped backwards, then turning away, walking back to his quarters.
Emotions didn't register with Vulcans. They didn't feel. It interrupted with logic, and logic ruled all. What Piri wanted to do, it wasn't logical. Pon Farr wasn't near; she had no reason to be attracted to Serith. She had no mate, and no need for one. Having one at such a time seemed irrational and illogical. Then why did she want, only moments before, to embrace Serith? Her brain searched for an answer; obviously the humans were affecting her. She needed to meditate later, cast out the emotions that scratched at her mind like cats at a closed door.
Engineering
Piri looked at the vaccines and wanted nothing more than just to sigh. Instead, she began walking towards the engineering deck. She ran into an ensign on her way there who seemed to be blabbering on about a replicator. "Ensign?" She watched him carefully, waiting for his reply.
OOC Notes
"I'm sorry Sir, but no civilians are allowed on the bridge, whether you helped build the ship or not." The security ensign said, with a little more force than was necessary.
"But there are some jobs in the Ready Room that need finishing yet." The civilian pleaded.
"I'm sorry, but the ship has become an operational vessel now, even if it is still in Spacedock, if there are any jobs that need finishing, they will be completed by the engineering department."
The discussion went on for a while as the Carnis looked around the bridge, it was definitely designed with the ship's tactical role in mind, there seemed to be two tactical stations, and the layout was such that from his seat he could see all the necessary combat stations unobstructed. It wasn't designed in the way of the cruiser bridges either, it was harsher, in a metallic scheme, and yet, he felt at home here. Maybe it was his tactical training, but it suited the style of the ship, and yet it seemed like it could be lived with. He turned his attention back to the two men that were arguing.
"Excuse me sir, what is your name?" He asked the civilian imperiously.
"Uh, Michael Sanders." The man turned to face him.
"Michael Sanders? And what do you do here at the shipyards?" Behind the civilian, the Ensign had seemed to relax, looking relieved that someone had taken the burden off him.
"I'm do the finishing touches, the uh décor I suppose."
"Interesting, I was under the impression that all the finishing touches had been done before the crew were allowed onboard Mr. Cable." This wasn't the first time the two of them had met, though clearly the man didn't remember him.
"Wh-What? Who's Mr. Cable?" The man replied, glancing furtively around.
"You are Mr. Cable, freelance journalist. I don't know how you got onboard my ship, or how you even knew it existed, but you have no business here, and you are in violation of far too many laws for me to state. Ensign, please escort this man to the Brig and tell your chief to contact the shipyards about him, I'm sure they'll be very interested in him."
"Yes Sir." The Ensign replied, pulling out his phaser, with a small smile of satisfaction crossing his face briefly. "This way please." He said to the journalist, guiding him off the bridge.
"Captain, if you don't mind me asking, how did you know who he was?" The Commander asked.
"He used the exact same story last time we met, during the refit of one of the vessels I served on, clearly he didn't pay much attention to a lowly tactical officer back then. I wonder what he was after, just a story or something more?" He mulled this over as he settled into the Captain's chair, he didn't even realise that he hadn't cast his eye over the staff on the bridge.
OOC Notes
As Kouji was muttering to himself, another officers happens to pass by. "Ensign?" Again, this catches him off guard.
"Ah! Er...I-I mean, Sir! Er...madam! Lady! No...woman? Gah no!" He tripped over his own words as he tried recollecting himself. "M-ma'am! How can I help you??" He said, his hands shaking. This woman may be the Chief Medical Officer, judging from her blue uniform and the number of badges on her collar.

[Bridge]
Ingus rubbed his temples. Everything was just so dull right now. There was nothing interesting going on. He was listening to an ensign chastise a civilian for being on the ship, even though he insisted that there was still a job to be done on the ship. Lord almighty, just leave him alone... He thought. No one cares about him, and no one cares about you, you mindless newbie... After a few minutes, Ingus was about to turn around and give him an earful when the captain appeared on deck with his two assistants.
Ingus was surprised. The captain quickly recognized him as a reporter, so the Ensign, if not a little too happily, took out his phaser and proceeded to escort him out to the brigs. Well well... Ingus thought. Things might actually get a little interesting...

"These Vulcans get stranger by the minute..." Virjok grinned a little to Kouji, "Hmm, maybe it is just her... Calm down, Piri's that stiff to everyone, including her own staff. Talk about reassuring for the patients..." She joked pointing to herself when she said the word 'staff' as she looked at the human a little closer, "Say, I've seen you before... You were on my transport, no? Trying to stop our new helmsman from assaulting the vessel." She smirked holding her hands out for him to shake should he not faint from the shock which, to be honest, would not be all that surprising. "I'm Virjok Ru, by the way."
OOC Notes
"What? Is it civilian?" Carnis asked, wondering if the reporter had managed to get something out on his way to the brig.
"Negative, it's definitely a military encryption, it looks . . . Romulan." The ensign looked around in horror.
"Block it if you can, and try to decrypt it. Hail the shipyard, they've got a spy somewhere." He said with authority, back in his element of commanding a starship. They may not be flying, but it was an operational vessel in every other sence of the word.
"Aye sir." Came the reply from the Science station, quickly followed by a young female voice saying, "Hailing frequencies open Captain, Admiral Ark'Vor responding."
"On screen." The viewscreen flickered into life, showing a hectic scene, "I would guess you picked up the signal Admiral."
"Indeed we did Captain, we're trying to pinpoint the transmission location now, but half our sensors are offline for a routine diagnostic, they knew when to send the signal. Any luck your end?"
"No sir, I've got science working on it now, we're trying to decrypt it as well."
"Very good, let me know if you get anything." The screen blinked back to the external view again.
"Anything on the decryption Ensign?" He asked.
"No sir, it's top level encryption, I can't even get close to it, the chief might be able to help you, I hear she's pretty good." Carnis nodded, tapping the ship-wide button.
"Chief Science Officer please report to the bridge immediately." He shut the intercom down, "Keep working on the signal trace Ensign."
"Aye sir, the block appears to be working sir."
"Good, monitor it, let me know how much may have gotten through if you manage to decrypt it." So much for a quiet start to life on his new command, still, it was good to be back in charge of a crew.
OOC Notes
"Holmes, you do know he was talking to you?" said the voice of a fellow science officer, who had actually known her for a year or so. He frowned slightly at her, knowing it wouldn't take much for little Vera Holmes to forget everything. Third simply shrugged at this, as anyone could easily understand a being like herself not being able to pay attention to such small fractions of time. When you live forever, many immortals found, past, present and future sort of blend together. However, Third wasn't immortal anymore, at least she didn't think she was. As she stepped into the elevator, declaring her destination, she winked at the poor friend before the doors closed, and the contraption moved.
Her presence was declared by a sorely missed "whoosh" of the elevator doors, and Third stepped unto the bridge, well knowing that she didn't exactly appear like the average science officer. She greeted the Captain as politely as she could, but preferred to get to the point by adding "How may I be of assistance?" with a slightly smug grin.

Elsewhere on the ship, the journalist had recently activated an implanted subspace transmitter, the switch was in the roof of his mouth, no-one would have noticed him activate it. His mission was complete, if Starfleet were able to jam it, it wouldn't matter, the important parts were transmitted in a micro data burst at the start, the rest was mainly as a distraction to keep them off the micro burst. He wondered if he would escape this alive . . .
--------------------------------------------------------
Hidden near a gasgiant, a Romulan fleet waited, waiting for the transmission from their spy. Within minutes of it arriving, the last ship had achieved warpspeed . . .

"Already? Not even off dock, and we're already arresting people? Either the bar's open early, or Star Fleet picked the roudiest crew ever."
"It's not a member of Star Fleet."
"What do you mean? Is it a stowaway? A spy? A trader?"
"That's just it. The guy claimed to be some decoration person for the ship. Captain I guess didn't believe him. We're watching him now. The Captain wants you to contact the shipyards and have a transport get him to the shipyards."
Trenton sighed and out a hand through his hair. That was all he needed. Somebody giving him a problem already.
"Fine. Keep your eyes on him. I'll contact the shipyard."
Trenton went to his comm unit and punched in a few buttons.
"Shipyard, go ahead."
"This is Trenton Mustaine, Chief of Security aboard the Pandora, we have arrested someone claiming to have been part of the decoration of the ship. Request shuttlecraft to come and take him off the ship."
"Acknowledged. Shuttlecraft will arrive in 5 minutes."
Trenton sighed as he turned off the comm unit. He then called the bridge.
"Security to bridge."

My problem is that several characters were vaccinated, which I hadn't planned on :S And although I can easily present you with an antidote, that wouldn't be very sporting :D So no-ones going to die, I'm just figuring out how to get an antidote to you guys without it being too easy. (Suggestions welcome!) Si please bear with me a little while longer, in a short while, all hell will break loose in space (if you hadn't guessed already), so I'll try and give you an opening to sort out the vaccinations sooner rather than later.
@Thekherham: There are possibilities for non-standard species, though you'll need to give me a reason why they were accepted into Starfleet. At this point in the timeline, only the mainstream races were being accepted. And if you're making up your own race, then be sure to add a fair bit of detail in for my reference ;) If you've got any specific queries, fire me a PM and I'll answer as best I can :)

As for learning about the universe, google Memory Alpha. It's a wiki based on Star Trek. The important things to know about are the Romulans, our main adversary, the main technologies (warp drives, phaser weapons, Multi-Vectored Assault Mode) And things like the uniforms, that's probably about all that's really necessary :p Other than that, if you have a question, just shout up in the OOC and we'll try to answer it.
For submitting a character, you will need to pick a division to work in, they are the following (in no particular order):
Engineering: Responsible for running the ship, maintaining each and every system, no matter how small.
Security: Responsible for ship-side security, and also providing security for away teams.
Tactical: Responsible for the ships weapons and defences during ship combat, they tend to be trained in a similar fashion to security as well.
Science: Responsible for studying the universe, be that with the ships sensors or with their tricorders on a planet.
Medical: Responsible for keeping everyone on board alive.
Command: There are only a few command roles on a ship, they are the chiefs of each department, the XO and the Captain, they run the ship essentially.
Helm: Only a few of these, but they pilot the ship. It is rare that you get a dedicated helmsman, they often double in other departments, generally tactical. However we do have on dedicated helmsman ;)
So, take your pick and send in a character sheet ;)
