Gang leader, synthetic drug addict and all-round opportunist, Sol is as sharp as steel and just as cold.
Name: Sol Bretton
Age: 30
Gender: Male
World of Origin: Yueda
Appearance:
With easy good-looks and hard mahogany-brown eyes, Sol's sharp features are attractive and he is not afraid to use that particular fact to his advantage. His hair is short and dark, his skin pale almost to the point of sallowness. He is tall but not imposingly so, and he is lean but not built, with the sense of tightly-wound energy about him. Perhaps his most memorable feature would be his right hand, which is bionic and clad in gunmetal-grey steel, although he often wears gloves to conceal it. Tattooing is rife within the criminal underworld and Sol's back and torso are inked with, amongst other images, a Russian doll-like figure, a slender knife, a fish with black scales and a sugar skull.
His clothing is practical and often dark-coloured, with sturdy leather boots, dark trousers and a grey t-shirt like a camouflage against the concrete, smoke-stain brick and wire fences of the urban habitat of Thea. A royal blue scarf is invariably looped around his neck and has, in the past, been wrapped around his hands to protect against the sting of a shiv, bundled on the ground as a make-shift pillow or used to bandage a laser burn. In the winter, a tailored jacket keeps away the cold.
Personality:
Very much the isolated leader, Sol is self-reliant to the point of arrogance and has gained a reputation as somewhat of a maverick within the loose community of organised crime outfits. Despite his cocksure and sarcastic manner, he can be utterly charming when he wants to be and this, combined with a talent for manipulation and an unusual insight into the greeds of those around him, has enabled him to build up a widespread network of contacts and employees who all dance to the tune of Sol and his money.
Whilst carrying out business, he acts with a tendency for ruthless self-destruction that is not so much brave as simply devoid of fear. He doesn't care about the safety of himself and often doesn't care about the safety of others either. Doing what is necessary comes first in his priorities and subjective morals a distant second. Sol is not the cruellest or the most violent of the crime lords; he carries out the tasks that others might find squeamish not with the joy of a sociopath but the grim satisfaction of a craftsman.
History: (I've intentionally left this reasonably short as I prefer it to be open to later revelation or development.)
Born on the planet of Yueda, in a cramped floating slum fifteen miles off-shore, Sol's mother died in childbirth leaving his father, a jump-engine mechanic, to look after his baby son alone. Emotionally crippled by the loss of his wife, his father's resentment, at first turned inwards, was soon reflected onto Sol when he was old enough to go to school. He responded by gradually withdrawing from life at home, spending most of his hours skiving off school in the narrow streets of the floating city and developing a talent for manipulation and charm. At around the age of sixteen, Sol became a regular user of tryptomine (colloquially known as 'trip' or 'T'), an illegal synthetic stimulant common in the slums of Yueda. When the local dealer was killed in one of the sporadic bouts of inter-gang warfare, Sol stepped deftly into his shoes, slowly building up a drug empire that expanded with the power vacuum created by the elimination of rival syndicates by the SOOC.
