This roleplay is closed for sign-up. All character positions are filled. Sorry.
There are five of them. Genetic experiments gone horribly right. One is unable to feel fear. Another will only stop fighting after everything has finished. Yet another can walk on water, while another has wings. The fifth must be taken away from fighting, for that experiment will fight to the death.
Ten years from now, it all begins. There aren't really any new inventions, so life is like it is now, barring the fact scientists are able to create freaks like these.
These five were the originals, the prototypes. The scientists who created them set them free after determining the stability of their minds are captured by the government, and all they have is each other. Some may split, some may stay. They must find a home - if the government doesn't catch them first.
So the question is - Is this a race against time, or a race to be free? A race to win, or a race you want to lose? Or is it a race at all?
Your job is to answer the questions. Enter the minds of these fugitives, give them a chance to succeed. For if you don't, who will? Who can help these freaks, these mutations, who did nothing wrong but to survive?
The five are hunted, though, by agents of the law and monsters, other creations by the scientists gone wrong. They seem to be of five different types, though they deal in shadow so the hunting hunted are not sure about them.
Never Afraid - Simplicity
Fighting until the end - VioLance
Walking on Water - Deja Vu
Fly - feralfairy
Fighting until the death - Vis Naturae
At first, the turmoil is who to lead. Then, the group debates about leaving, as there is some tension. But all must find a home, for if they don't, they'll be found and captured. What to do, I ask you?
Not all of these children have powers - would you consider fighting to the death a power? It's more of an instinct, a natural reaction. They, nevertheless, are a crucial asset to the group. All of the subjects must be between the ages of six and twenty-five, though those are a bit extreme. The main amount should be in the highschool age, and only one is allowed to be younger than twelve. Along with each gift, they also have enhanced seeing, hearing, strength, and speed, but not enough to truly stand out.
This will be a serious roleplay. I don't want silly things, though your character may be immature. If they so choose.
I don't want to make a character skeleton, as I want to see your writing style. The information must include -
Power, Age, Gender, Appearence (Description or Picture, does not matter), Top Five Favorite Things, Top Five Least Favorite Things, Personality, Favorite Weapon To Use, and Place They Want To Live.
These may not be in direct order, as I want them in sentences, incorporated into a biography.
More is to be added. If you have questions, ask them on the OOC board.

OOC Notes
The sun was bright, and though the clouds were not pretty-fluffy – she forgot the scientific name, but who needed that anyway? – the sound of rain pummeling the ground could be heard lightly from below, like listening from a basement. Alex thought about that – a basement not adorned with buzzing noises and white lab coats. She shuddered, though whether from the cold of the rain or the memories she couldn’t, or wouldn’t, tell.
It was only up here, high in the sky, hidden by clouds, wings keeping her aloft with soft flaps, did she allow the past to affect her visibly. More than anything did Alex want a comfortable, homely basement to be dry in, next to a crackling fire with her flock.
She stayed like that, vertical, wind whipping her blond hair lightly as she admired the view until she was dry. The sun was much warmer up here, but Alex eventually had to go back down. She had, after all, told the group she’d only be gone a little while. Ruffling her feathers, she pulled her wings in sharply and dived.
The wind hit her face harshly, but she paid it no mind. Soon, she hit the rain clouds again, getting re-drenched, but tore through them, bursting out underneath with a smirk. Her hawk eyes spotted the group huddled under a large tree, trying to get out of the rain, somewhere near a Louisiana bayou. It was only the second day after narrowly escaping the government agents and being set free. Alexandra landed on a large branch easily, legs catching it and wrapping around, her momentum causing her to swing upside-down like a bat. “Heya.” She greeted them with a smile.
OOC Notes
He brushed the rain from his messy, now frizzy brown hair, the wavey mahogony ocean was now a poofy, dark brown jungle upon his head. He brushed it off from his arms, and flung the mud from the bottom of his boots away from the rest of the group. They had to pick the day that huricane Katrina struck the area to escape, didn't they? He didn't mind the rain, but it certainly didn't do anything for his appearance. At least his red bandana kept the hair from drooping down into his face. Mud soaked his jeans from the knee down, and his grey muscle shirt was nearly black from being drenched.
Looking back over to Alex, he smirked again. "Be careful, huh? Don't hang too long from that branch. It's slippery, and if you fall and conk your head, you'll become even more batty." He said with a snicker. He towered over the rest of the group. He waited for the lightning rod jokes to pour on, but he knew they were all in good spirit. After all, liberty was their prize for escape. And it felt GOOOD.
OOC Notes
Malory glanced around the group. They were the only family she had ever really known. Flashes of her past would occasionally cloud her mind, though, as much as Malory wanted them to, they would never linger. She never knew her parents, she couldnt even remember any names. At times this made Malory wonder if she even had a guardian, or if her parents disposed of her as quickly as possible, abandoning her to a life of needles and horrible genetic mutations and alterations. But Malory refused to don on that, she had her friends, and that was all she needed.
With the crack of a few branches from up above, Malory knew her friend had arrived once more. She glanced up, making out the dark figure that was Alexandra. She smirked slightly as her and Brock talked back and forth. Alexandra, attitude with wings. Malory had grown up like sister with her, twins if you must. She was witty and quick to counter. Then there was Brock. Though they were the same age, she always seemed to imagine Brock as the protective older brother, no doubt his size rendered to her insight. She had always admired his willpower and determination.
"Your one to talk Brock" Malory teased lightly, glancing at Alexandra, "though quite frankly, I don't think Alex could get much more battier." she said, using her hands for air quotes, "She's as crazy as I'll get out" Malory said shrewdly, returning her gaze to Brock.
OOC Notes
"Why, if I may ask, are we in the middle of the swamp? Really, why. Humor me. Cuz I don't see anything funny about possibly being eaten by a gator."
He rambled on, his mocking tone being droned out by the sound of rolling thunder. He was happy to be free, sure, but being on the run was an entirely different matter. What was worse for the young man was that they now found themselves in the middle of nowhere practically. He listen to his family peck fun of each other, knowing that it was a sign that they were indeed free. But in the back of his mind, Kevin wondered for how long. Always the pessimist, he called out to Alex, as he liked to call her.
"No one take potshots at you while you were out and about? The closer we get to civilization, the more you're going to have to limit your flights, least in the daylight." With that he pushed himself off the trunk and strode out to the edge of the trees shade, absentmindedly scanning the horizon. He turned back to the group, his short stature evident as he did so.
"Aye, Mt. Brock, I'm hungry. Stand up and see if you can punch a squirrel or something to munch on." Kevin said being only half serious. He was hungry, but it was more of a jib at his 'brother'. He stuck a hand out into the rain, turning his palm upward to catch a bit of water. As he ran the now wet hand through his hair to remove it from his face, he spoke.
"Where we headed anyway? Ways I see it, we gots two options. Head north and hide out in the Ozarks for awhile, or head east and do the same in the Apps."
OOC Notes
He turned to Keven, whom seemed a little under the weather, instead of under the tree...symbolicly anyway. "Well. Swamps are great for escape scenes. Didn't you see that one really old movie before you were captured? Rainbow, Randyo....I can't rememb- Rambo! That's it. Crazy dude going through with a knife killin' guys." He said, chuckling. "But in all seriousness, I'm not sure. It's not like we had much of a choice." He finished his statement.
"Well, Kev's right you know, Alex. We're tryin' to stay hidden. We'll...have to get you some attire that doesn't show your anatomy. Even though I know you like that stuff." He said, trying to keep himself from laughing. Again, he hoped they didn't take his jokes too seriously. He really didn't.
"Sorry Kev. Small furry rodents aren't on my "Hit list". Besides. They're supposedly really rancid tasting when wet. Should I bully some fast food chain's CEO instead? I hear that they don't give a crap about the enviorment. They'll build a, a Ching-Chong-Hutt around here in no time. You might even get the little doughnut balls too." He said keeping his lighthearted attitude.
"As for where we're headed I saaaaayyy....not the way we came. By all means, we don't have any survival gear...I mean, a compass? Matches? Maps? Hand grenades? We don't have any of the vital nessities of life. If someone's got some of that stuff, I'd like to know. It'd be big help in our location..." He said, looking around. The rain seemed to be lightening, but it could've just been his imagination. "And hell, we can get some kind of indication to where the nearest city is. So we can get some lunch instead of that 'gator. Right Kev?" He said with less of a silly attiude, but nowhere near serious.
OOC Notes
He looked up at Alex, who was still swinging from the branch. "Watch out, batgirl. I'm comin' up," he informed her as he jumped as high as he could. Hooking the branch almost with his fingertips, he managed to flail about and get a grip. As he pulled himself up, however, the branch gave an inauspicious crack. He exchanged a brief glance with Alex before bursting into laughter. The tree was deceptively flimsy.
"I guess I could stand to lose a few pounds," he noted, dropping easily back to the ground.
As the conversation shifted from jokes to reality, Leon's expression grew serious. He listened as Brock gave everyone a precis of their plight and thought for a moment before responding.
"Brock's right, we need to think about supplies. All I've got are clothing and some dried foods that we can use in an emergency." He didn't mention his knife, or brass knuckles. He tried to avoid violent topics. "As for finding civilization, Alex can always fly up and look for a city's skyline."
He thought briefly. "I'd say we need to avoid cities, since we're more likely to be caught and identified in places with more people. But, we might not have a choice right now." He smiled almost apologetically, aware that he had just given the conversation its most serious tone yet.
OOC Notes
The teen tossed her blonde hair behind her back, drawing in her wings as far as she could go. "Are you saying my anatomy is a bad thing, Brocky-osaurus? I say we do go to cities. Earn some money doing who-knows-what, buy supplies, and go somewhere hidden. Point is, Einsteins, we can get money from big cities. If we can find one."
Her face adopted a serious look, and she sat down. "All I have is what I'm wearing, and it's a sure fact I'm not tossing that into the supplies pile, thanks much. And anyways, why make batgirl do all the work when Jesus here can find us a path out of the marsh?" Alex's black wings outstretched and beat the air behind her. Despite her joking at Kevin, this talk worried her. It was true they needed to get out of the rain and get more supplies. Not to mention she was hungry again. Her stomach rumbled and she frowned.
"As soon as this bloody rain stops, we can head out. Tramp in a straight line and we'll get somewhere. Right?"
OOC Notes
"I still think heading into town is a bad idea. I mean we got me, Tasmanian Devil, Evel Knievel, and if we put ole Brock in some flannel and throw a halo over Alex, we got Paul Bunyan and a fallen Angel to finish off the gang! Inconspicuous we are not. But whatever I guess."
With that Kevin walked out from under the tree and into the rain, which was showing signs of letting up. He didn't really mind the rain, he'd been given rather cruel experiments and test that left him borderline hydrophobic after all. As he made his first step out of the rain a puddle found it's way underneath Kevin. There he stood, defying reality as he stood on the water. Kevin had found out early on that he would never enjoy splashing throw puddles like the rest of the human race. With a sigh he threw his hood up and waited for the rest of the family to hurry up. The rain was now but a drizzle and Kevin could see the beginnings of a rainbow forming over the top of the tree through his glasses.
OOC Notes
"Your anatomy? A bad thing? Now where'd you get a silly idea like that, you majestic swan...crow...raven you! I quite envy your appearance, and your mode of transportation. But, I don't know. I think that it could work, as long as you stayed from plain view. You'll be the hardest to NOT recognize." He said, nodding. "And why not? It's not like we haven't seen you nude before in the labs. Because trust me. We have."
"Me? In flannel? Paul Bunyon? I think I'd make a pretty good redneck, if I could cover up my accent(Slightly Brooklyn-ish). And I could make a great amount being a trucker. Or a backwood hunter. Or drunken bankrobber. All of the above." He said. "And great idea. We can convince people that Kev is the reincarnation of the big JC, and tell people Budha is goin' to smash 'em with his gut if they don't give us money." He said, chuckling. Kevin was headed out into the rain....Seemed he was ready to go.
"Yeah. If we head straight, we'll eventually see signs towards civilization...,Or we'll hit an ocean one." He said. "I suppose that's our 'Let's go'." He said, walking out from under the tree, the branches grazing his head and shoulders as he stepped out from under it. He just kind of followed Kevin, catching up to him.
OOC Notes
"Your appearance is fine," he noted wryly, "A pair of wings won't arouse the least suspicion. And good idea about finding a city and getting day jobs; you're really getting the hang of this whole fugitive gig."
Leon turned to follow Brock and Kevin. He had never heard the advice "just walk in a straight line" for people lost in the wilderness, but everyone seemed anxious to get moving.
"Come on, Mal," he called over his shoulder. "You too, batgirl. Don't ditch us yet."
OOC Notes
Crossing her arms, she waited for Brock to turn away before somersaulting on the ground and leaping up next to him, using her wings to beat the ground and give her altitude. Her boots whizzed by his face. "Majestic swan-crow-raven-thing kick of doom, Brocky-osaurus!" She gave him a grin, sailing right by him. Her aim was to land dramatically in front of the walking group, but instead somehow managed to land unevenly, and stagger into a puddle of water.
Screeching, she flapped her wings for balance but fell in anyway, getting covered with mud. "Oh, great." Now she was wet all over, and rather dirty. The rain could take care of the dirt. It couldn't be helped, really. Giving herself a few shakes to dry off, Alex rose again, giving all those who would laugh a skeptical glare. She, being now ahead of the boys, waited for them to walk up to her. "So, about that leaving we were going to do? Come on."
OOC Notes
The group slogged through muddy water and roads, the challenging thing was keeping high hopes in the soaking rain and the slushy, cold mud that they dragged through. With the two's antics, it was a little easier.... But it wasn't fun. He squinted his eyes, looking over the horizon. "Hey...guys..." He said, leaning forward a bit. "Is...that a ramp off the highway?" He said, pointing to a hunk of paved road up ahead.
OOC Notes
She never really paid attention to the conversation, only shooting a, "Hey, watch it" in a teasing tone when a joke or two was shot at her. Instead, she gazed out into the rain, thinking to herself. Thinking about where they were headed next, how long they would be able to keep hidden before something happened. At this thought, Malory turned to look at everyone, not daring to imagine what would happen is she were to loose one of them.
Once again, she lost herself in her thoughts, only really paying attention when the mention of going into the city was announced. A city. Lots of buildings and even more people. Crowded, tight spaces, little room to run. The idea made Malory frown. She jumped down from the branch, sinking slightly in the damp earth. She lagged behind momentarily before catching up with everyone.
"Are we sure that going into a city is a good idea?" Malory spoke up, putting herself between Kevin and Brock as the five of them walked, "I mean, of all places..." her voice trailed off as Brock pointed out a so called highway ramp. She was silent as they drew nearer, making out the pavement and the end of a guard rail. "Yeah. I think it is" she said

I'll be adding more locations later to where they could go. Other than that, there's nothing really more I need to say. I think. Let's begin, shall we?
Oh, and also: The characters don't know it, but the five types of monsters are others who were genetically engineered to have the survivors 'gifts' - and failed. Keep that in mind.

Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
I am intending this for tab roleplays, still. So if you'd kindly submit your characters to the roleplay, it would help me keep them straight - also, make sure the 'power' is clear. We may have more than one competing for the same position. If I don't accept your character, feel free to tweak him/her to an open power, if there is one.
On another note, I'm glad to see such an avid interest. Deja Vu, Kevin looks to be fantastic for this roleplay - if no one else applies, you'd definitely be in.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
I'm hoping for the walk on water role, and have a sharptongued character in mind
Kevin Valverde was a regular youth up until one fateful day when he was 10. If he remembers correctly, he was kidnapped and taken on a long journey that took nearly a month to complete. In the end he settled into what they called a 'lab' of 'facility.' From then on his life would be very different than most. Before he was a well mannered outgoing boy. Now, he has grown harsh and spiteful though his unwilling incarceration. Sarcastic insults and loaded remarks aimed to incite conflict are usually what flows from Kevin's lips nowadays, but every so often his old chipper self comes out to play.
Through various means of experimentation Kevin gained the ability to walk on water. He seems to be able to treat bodies of liquid like solid surfaces, able to walk across them, pull himself out of them as if he's pulling himself onto a rooftop, and other such feats. It's seen as a novel 'gift' to Kevin though, who finds anything forced onto him by his captors as inherently bad. Now at age 16 he finds remembering who he once was hard, his mind having forcefully buried some memories from the traumatic events he's had at the hands of scientist since his capture. But he does remember a certain place by the name of Rio De Janeiro, and he wishes to return to that place.
His height never really improved since his capture, and he is only 5ft and a half on his tiptoes, and he needs glasses to correct his nearsightedness. Hazel eyes usually look through those lens past a long head of black hair that has never seen proper care and hangs past his jaw. The beginnings of teenage scruff can be seen on his chin, and his bronze skin tone does nothing to hide it. He wears what he's given, and if he could he'd have some sort of pointy weapon on hand to defend himself with.
Kevin adores freedom, and goes through great pains to savor it. Thus he values any privacy he gets, and does not like it when people pry. His jerkish demeanor occasionally lashes out at those who unintentionally cross the line with their curiosity, but he is quick to drop the subject as soon as they let off. He knows that his companions find him abrasive at best, and actively tries to atone for this with a self perceived 'leader' complex. As in, he always has a 'plan', however ill conceived it is.

Vis: Precisely what I was looking for. I'll wait a bit to see if anyone can trump that (though it's doubtful,) but it's probably accepted. You're right, favorites are best put in a list.
I'll have my character up around five tomorrow, for an example.

Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
Leon Batista was subjected to genetic experimentation when he was but 8. Even at such a tender age, he had already developed a compassionate character. Despite his outstanding intelligence, the child was gentle by nature and never took advantage of the other children. Somewhat shy but well-adjusted, he charmed every adult he met and played well with his peers. Until he was taken away.
By an ironic twist of fate, the experiments instilled into Leon a savage lust for battle. Once enraged, his mind becomes focused on killing. Indiscriminate death becomes his only desire. Self-restraint is all but impossible, and fear is out of the question. By self-discipline and some training, he can ordinarily suppress this impulse and is, as far as others can tell, a mild-mannered adolescent. So overpowering is this artificial "instinct," though, that once it emerges he must be physically restrained or removed from the presence of others. Only then, and with great difficulty, can the desire to kill be overcome. None in their right mind would call this anything but a burden.
At the time of this story, Leon is a 14-year old with a fairly athletic build and a habitually calm demeanor. His attire is fairly ordinary, although as a fugitive he does not have the resources to be fashionable. His hair is brown and cut fairly short, and his facial features are strong and angular. He is friendly and outgoing, although somewhat insecure about the possibility that he might lose control and attack those close to him. He suspects that his companions are secretly wary of his suppressed tendencies.
Doubtless, Leon's weapons of choice are his bare hands, supplemented by brass knuckles. In combat, he relies heavily on overwhelming his opponent with brute strength and ferocity. His style is a combination of brawling and wrestling, having had some training in the latter during the experimentation. While he can wield virtually any close-range weapon to some effect, in the heat of battle he retains nowhere near enough presence of mind to aim a projectile weapon.
Leon likes people. He likes meeting them and learning about them. Ideally, he would like to live in a city like New York, but obviously it is infeasible at present. Even if he weren't a fugitive, he wouldn't trust himself near that many people, just in case.
Likes and dislikes seem best given as lists. Please tell me if you would prefer otherwise.

Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
But I've got a few more questions for you, so I can submit the best possible character sheet.
1. When you say you want this in the form of a Biography, do you mean one mohunking block of text written like an english term paper? I'm asking this in all seriousness.
2. Give a few examples of powers. Because it's a wide category. What are the limits of these powers? Are they powers like super strength, or speed? Unmatchable wit, or wisdom? Narrow your category just slightly, if you would so kindly.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
Also, the ages intended for these characters are somewhere between six and twenty-five. All are from the same lab and have grown up together, some longer than others, and so, even if the 'Fighting until death' character was as you say, Vio-Lance, they'd still be friends with the others. Acquiantances, if nothing else. Hopefully that clears things up. If you have ever read the 'Maximum Ride' books, it is a bit like that.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
When I think of "I fight untill I die", I see a rogue barbarian on a path, unhampered by anything that his blade can smash or rend. He cared not what he maims, as long as he maims. Destruction is his value, his life style. He is there to battle untill his demise, weither it be old age, or a rival foe. All are his potential foe.
That is simply what I see in it. I don't know if it clarifies it for you, but I tried.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
Vio-Lance wrote:I believe the "Fight untill you die", would be more of a loner. He doesn't care about the others, only himself.
This interpretation, if it were a complete description of the trait, would resolve my question immediately. Unfortunately, it does not stand alone in light of the definition given in the third post.
OP: Thanks for explaining.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
I've a small question to ask: What exact time period is this roleplay set in? Current, I assume, as I see the tag "Highschoolers". But, the sweet-ass techno beat of Bass Hunter is perhaps indicating the future.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
Vio-Lance - I'd be glad to. But if someone else creates a character for that slot, you might not get it- it depends on the quality. Just heads-up.
Re: [OOC] Walk on Water
Either way, I'd like to reserve the sport for "Fighting untill the end" slot, if you would please?
