Introduction
History
Hundreds of thousands of years ago, an ancient civilization crumbled, bombing the entire surface of the planet, Neudara, with nuclear weaponry. No records of that time remain. Over the years, the planet's biosphere gradually healed, creating vast forests and grasslands, deserts and tundras untouched by man. Out of this new biosphere emerged two sentient races: The Reda'an and the Djinn.
The Reda'an were human in size and shape with one difference: they bore the tail and ears of animals. This did not diminish their intelligence however, as they grew to use tools, invent new weapons and ways of life, and contemplate the universe.
The Djinn were equally human in size and shape, but without the animal features. Instead, they bore eyes of gold; the iris of every single Djinn shone like burnished gold. They developed marvelous powers, abilities to shape reality. These powers did have a cost in strength, but were enviable nonetheless.
The Reda'an discovered a way to bind the will of a single Djinn to a single person, as well as boosting that Djinn's individual power; this method was hidden by the group who discovered it and they used it to make themselves powerful; this group of Reda'an wormed themselves into the tribal government of the area in which they lived and, over time, established a global government headed by them, the Elder Council.
They forged an agreement with the Djinn: they would give the Djinn race as a whole an equal place in society and the choice to become bound to a master, gaining power. Many Djinn chose power, and offered themselves to the Council. Those who didn't fled, choosing to exist peacefully but separately from the Reda'an people. They were named Wild Djinn, and were never seen by Reda'an. Bound Djinn and Soon-to-be Bound Djinn were marked with a tattoo of the Elder Council's mark: a sword crossing a pen. Any Djinn with this mark upon it's brow was part of society; bound Djinn also had it's master's mark tattooed upon the left hand.
Reda'an who wished to own a Djinn had to apply with the Elder Council to do so; the application process was kept secret, as was the binding method.
On Neudara
The technology on Neudara is synonymous with fourteenth century earth: Firearms non-existent; swords, bows, etc. Horses and sailing ships as transportation, all that jazz.
The difference is the magic. Due to Djinn magic, there is running water and plumbing in major cities, and instant visual communication via quartz sheets that are imbued with magic. These are also only available in major cities, located in police departments, government buildings, and public communication buildings.
These communication glasses work like this: each glass is connected to one other glass. each of the pair always shows what's on the other side of the other glass. Therefore, if there is a person speaking in front of the other one, you can see and hear that person and he can see and hear you.
The global government is headed by the Elder Council, a group of eight individuals who are chosen by the previous council and serve for life. Under them are Continental Councils, made of eight people each, and City Councils, made of eight people each.
There are three continents: one in the east, one in the west, and one in the south. Terrain on each continent are diverse; neither is particularly distinguished in that respect. The biggest, the Western Continent, is two months travel across and three tall. The Eastern Continent is half this size, and the Southern Continent is a third the size of Western Continent.
Each continent has Ten major cities.
On Characters
You were sent a message by a mysterious Ellen, who requires your presence in the main city Talis on Western Continent. Talis is a metropolis to the east, on the edge of a massive forest. It boasts several seaports. The message was short, and as follows:
Your presence is required in Talis in four months time.
You should come to the Bloody Dagger Tavern in the
Southern Quarter of the city. Tell the Innkeeper you
are there to see Ellen. He will show you to me.
Please be prepared for a long journey.
You will begin when you enter Talis. For your first post, please include a summary beginning when you received the letter and ending when you arrived. Your character can be from anywhere in the world; city names are up to you, but subject to change before your character is approved. Please PM me for any questions.
