This role play follows students through their high school years - relationships are made, broken, remade, or strengthened in a world where being young means being invincible, and everything feels life or death, even if it's really not.

OOC Notes
Nina climbed into her father's truck early in the morning of the first day of school. He was always kind enough to drop her off at the high school, but annoyingly, first they had to drive from one construction site to the next so that he could make sure no one needed anything before he returned at 8. She smiled at her father and turned the radio up louder than necessary. Her father Bert was a nice guy and fairly young, so the two could often find something on the radio that they could agree on. This morning? Top 40 rock.
As Nina stared out the window and listened to some band that vaguely sounded like they could be Nickleback, or Daughtry, or Three Days Grace or some other band with that feel, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of her father's truck - a mixture of his aftershave, coffee, and the cigarettes he kept swearing he was going to quit smoking. The scents blended together to create an aroma that was completely her father, which made the smell soothing to Nina's nerves. While she'd had a great year last year at Westville High, she wasn't looking forward to being able to make rookie mistakes the way she had when she was a freshman.
After some stops and a few kind words of encouragement from some of her father's workers, she was neatly deposited in front of the school.Nina liked that her dad wasn't one of those parents. He understood her need to not look like she was being treated like a little girl, so there was no last minute hugs, or "I love you"s or hollering out the window to have a good day. He simply dropped her off and waved goodbye. Since she was still pretty early (the stops had been much shorter than normal), she sat on the front steps of the school and pulled out one of her summer reading assgnments. She had slacked off a bit this summer and still had about 50 pages left to go. Hopefully she'd finish in time.

Danielle woke up two hours earlier than usual. "Ugh, school." She got ready to go and woke her mom up so she could drive her to school. "Can I drive?" Danielle had always wanted to learn to drive even though she is still fourteen. Her mom had let her drive once in the school parking lot when all the cars were gone. Turning was the easiest, parking was going to take a while to figure out. Her mom looked at her like she was crazy. "No! I don't want to have to worry about you hitting someone." Danielle was disappointed but sighed and said, "Fine." The ride to school seemed to take forever. Finally, they reached the school. Kids were standing in their groups talking to their friends. "Great, another year to not fit in," she unitensionally said aloud. "Get over it, I'm sure you will find someone just as crazy as you here. San Diego isn't the only place with those kind of kids." What did she know? She hasn't had to deal with this kind of stuff in years.
OOC Notes
Great, her first day of school. She walked around the campus looking at her schedule. She didn't know whatelse to do since she didn't know anyone and she was new to Westville. "This would be a lot easier if I wasn't shy," she thought to herself. All the people just chatting and some glancing her way and then back to their friends made her even more nervous. Did they know she was new?

Nina glanced up at the new girl. She was certain the girl was new because only new students look as utterly frightened as this one did. She caught her eye and gave her a friendly, genuine smile. "Hey," she called over, "If you need a seat, come on over and sit here with me. I don't bite or anything." She patted the concrete beside her and moved her backpack up against the wall on the other side of her. Folding her book and resting it in her lap, she waited patiently for the new girl to come over.

Danielle was smiled back and said,"Sure." She walked over and took the seat offered to her. "I'm Danielle, I just got transferred here from San Diego."

"Oh wow," Nina replied, "I hear it's beautiful out on the West Coast." She leaned back and let the sun warm her face. "I've never been there, but I'd like to visit sometime. Learn to surf and whatnot," she smiled at the girl next to her. "I'm Nina, by the way. Westville born and raised. What grade are you in?" Nina waved at a few other aquaintences who were beginning to arrive at the school, but she didn't bother waving anyone over. She figured she'd make the new girl feel comfortable before bombarding her with new faces and new names.

Oliver was sitting in his car, after sleeping the night in it he was ready for his first day at this new school, in a new country, and on top of that no family to support him. So quickly Oliver got changed in his backseat, sprayed some deodorant on to cover the smell of not washing for two days and hoped in the front seat of his Black Honda Accord. "Heh....Guess its time for school". Slowly he starts to drive into Town turning a few corners before reaching the school. Quickly he parks his car and hopes out and starts walking towards the entry of the school trying to be ignored by all around him.

"Ya it's nice there. I've never learned how to surf, but I used to go to the beach every month with my friends." Danielle couldn't help smiling at the memories as she spoke to Nina. "I'm in ninth. You?"

Nina grinned at the new girl. "I'm a sophomore. Had my freshman experience last year. But it's cool. Everyone's pretty nice here, they don't mess with you or anything. Not really, anyway." She glanced at the boy walking up the steps. Another new face. Huh. Well, new faces were coming more and more often since the area had suddenly sprung up as the spot to get away from busy city life and back to the "wholesome goodness" of a more rural area. Although how the area would stay rural was a question on Nina's mind since more people meant more businesses and more businesses meant even more people. Still, Nina was tired of the same old, same old. Maybe it was time to see what it was like to live in a more populated area.

Oliver was walking up the stairs as he noticed a younger looking girl glanced at him. Heh. Random, is everyone this Nosy? or is it just me?. Well better be friendly. Walking past Oliver smirked at her and carried on trudged towards the office.

Nina smiled back at the boy, nodding her head slightly in greeting. As she turned to talk to Danielle, the first bell rang, alerting the students that it was now time to get to class. "Oh man," Nina said. "Here it goes!" She stood and offered to help Danielle to her first class before heading to her own. She enjoyed school, though she often played as if she didn't just because it was what everyone else did.
As she made her way through the hallway, her BFF Sarah ran up behind her, grabbing her by the arm and spinning her around. Caught off-guard, Nina almost screamed (she almost fell, too). Instead, the sound coming out of her throat evolved into a laugh that was light and giddy and young. She spun Sarah back before letting go of her and throwing up a hand as she headed to class. Sarah returned the wave and added a big, fake blown kiss across the hallway. Nina laughed and headed into class. Hopefully, it was going to be a good year.

Danielle looked to see who Nina was looking at. He didn't seem very nice, maybe she wouldn't have any classes with him, if she was lucky. When the bell rang Danielle asked Nina where the Biology room is. Great, this was going to be an interesting day. Who would she ask for the next class?

While in the Office, enrolling Oliver heard the bell ring looking at the slightly too american office lady he lets out the tiniest of laughs. He looks at his timetable, English, now its time to find it.
Heading down the hallway he finds it too hard to find so instead just goes to his locker and decides to go for a drive. Now wishing he was back home in England.

Danielle sat through class. It seemed like everyone already knew one another. "Hey, are you new?" a girls voice came from the other side of the table. "Um, yeah." Danielle thought that this meant the girl would say something else to her, but she just turned back to her firends and continued on with their conversation. "Wow, this school is weird." she thought to herself.
The class seemed to drag on and on for hours, but when she looked at the clock, it had only been thirty minutes. To pass the time she took out a pencil and started drawing on her binder.

As the final bell rang for the day, Nina grabbed up her bag and headed home, keeping an eye out for both new students, hoping to give them her phone number in case they needed anything. While perhaps she was being a bit silly about the whole thing, Nina was looking forward to making more friends this year - and making homecoming court.

Danielle watched the clock as the minute hand seemed to be moving slower. Then finally the bell rang. Danielle raced out of the classroom and found Nina. "Hey, will I see you tomorrow?" She didn't want to seem like she was forcing Nina to be friends with her, but she still wanted to talk to someone and not be a loner at school.

Nina flashed Danielle a huge smile. "Of course! And hey, since you're new here and all, let me give you my number. You can call me if you have any questions or even if you just want to hang." She grabbed the other girl's wrist and pulled out a pen tucked behind her ear. Scrawling her number on Danielle's hand, she smiled once more. "Now call me. Even if it's not something important. And maybe we can hang sometime, too. My dad's really chill and sometimes lets me go check out his construction sites in the evening when everyone's gone. They're super-spooky and way fun."

Danielle smiled, "Okay, sounds cool to me." She was sure that if Nina tried to notice, she would see that Danielle had pen markings all over her other hand. She wrote on her hands a lot. Her frist day of school went great. Her mind though, went from the number on her hand to the guy she had seen earlier. He seemed like he didn't talk much to others. Maybe she could talk to him and get to know him better. She was feeling a bit more confident. She walked around until she spotted Oliver and waved while smiling at him. "Hi, I'm Danielle."

Nina smiled at Danielle as she headed off. "Have a great night! See ya later!" After saying goodbye, Nina grabbed her books from her locker and headed out the door, tossing her bag into the back of her father's truck when she reached it and climbing in to the passenger seat. After a brief conversation with her dad about her day, she kissed him goodbye and jumped out, now at home for the evening. Grabbing her bag, she headed into the kitchen where she grabbed an apple for a snack and sat at the table to start her homework.

Just a head's up - I'm going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. I'll still have internet access barring some catastrophic laptop meltdown, but I won't necessarily be on often. Hi and welcome!
Here's a quick list of rules for those of you interested in joining.
1. Remember that this is an RP to help anyone who wants to become stronger at role playing. That said, please do your best to follow basic rules of grammar, and be fair and patient to those playing with you.
2. Make sure that all characters are well rounded and feel real. This is one of the most important parts of becoming a good role player. "She's really nice and everyone loves her," is flat. "She tries her best to be positive and to keep everyone around her happy," is better. "She tries to be optimistic, at times even to the point of blindly ignoring the negatives of a specific action," is better. The more detail, the more realism, the better your character is and the more fun your character will be to play.
3. While in-character tension is totally fun, don't let that tension pass over to out of character. Characters can dislike each other even if two players are great friends. Just remember to keep things separate.
4. As above, the reverse is also true. Don't let out of character issues take over in character. If Bill and Jim are playing characters that are best friends, the characters should stay best friends, even if Bill and Jim are suddenly bitter enemies.
5. Feel free to PM me with any questions or comments or plot ideas you have.
6. Our goal is to have NO one line posts. If you're having trouble doing more than one line, please PM me and I will help you out with a few tricks I have of making my posts fuller.
7. Understand that nothing I say is meant to be mean or offensive. If I upset you or hurt your feelings, please let me know PRIVATELY.
8. This is a realistic role play, not fantasy-based. If posting a picture of your character, post a realistic picture only, and also add in a description. Whoever said a picture is worth a thousand words lied. No vampires, no werewolves or the like, either.
9. ALL OOC talk should take place here, all IC should take place in the posting section.
