A 42 year old CIA agent assigned to the Counterterrorism Center.
Alex is full blooded Italian American, with olive skin, hazel eyes and black hair flecked with gray. Small wrinkles on his forehead and at the corners of his eyes and mouth mark a permanent mirth. He is built like a greyhound, all gangly limbs and compact muscle, though he stand more on the average side at 5' 11".
Though reminiscent of a piano players in shape, his dinner plate sized hands are rough with callouses. His feet as well seem to be a size too big for his body.
At work, his attire leans heavily to the conservative side. Dark slacks, pale button down shirt, dark suit coat and black dress shoes. As a CIA agent, Alex doesn't usually carry a gun. When he does, however, he favors the Glock 22.
Off work he is a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. Sneakers are his shoe of choice, brown his choice of shirt color, and he doesn't variate much from that. He always carries a 22 when off duty, more out of habit than anything else.
At work, Alex falls into the role of the stereotypical movie CIA agent with ease, and just a bit too much enjoyment. That is to say he appears unable to smile and unable to take anything less than seriously. He treats those ranked above him with the utmost respect regardless of what he thinks of them.
Alex never demands or orders those ranked below him. He asks instead. "Would you get me a coffee, please?" "Would you fill out this form, please?" "Would you shoot out his kneecap, please?" Even under stress he never raises his voice above cordial conversation level, and the tone of it is always as relaxed as though he is ordering a sandwich.
Outside of work he is no more than an overgrown kid with a hearty love of adventure. Alex is up for anything, anytime, anywhere. Just as long as it isn't snore inducing, of course. He loves to visit local bars and bug the people who drink alone in corners. That usually either leads to a black eye or a new friend.
He treats his friends like family members and tries to have someone over for dinner every night he is home. His loyalty is almost blind, and he is willing to defend the opinions and beliefs of his friends even if they are wrong. Strangely enough, he asks that his friends call him Will.
Alex is a die hard patriot, believing that America has the best form of government and is therefore most able to bring about peace, and he will fight to protect his country at the cost of his life. Although he recognizes the country has faults, he believes they are outweighed by the good points, and that the faults are lesser than those of other countries. He particularly dislikes communism and believes that such a form of government only leads to greed and suffering.
Alex doesn't often show it, but he has a bit of a temper. He runs magazines and paper through a shredder when he gets angry, and has so far broken three of them due to overuse.
He has a fear of silence, and has an ambient sound maker at home to provide noise. Alex has a mobile version of it on his cell phone that he uses away from home, and he prefers the 'thunderstorm' setting on both. He also dislikes hedgehogs and porcupines, considering them to be no more than 'spiny tail-less rodents'.
Alex's Italian background show itself in the hand movements he uses when talking and the occasional Italian curse mumbled is stressful situations. And, of course, in his love for good food. He loves fried squid and loaded mashed potatoes. Strangely enough, he dislikes the taste of tomato sauce and mushrooms.
Around kids he becomes a big, loveable teddy bear and will gladly join in on anything from rough housing and snake hunting to tea parties and playing house. He draws the line at dress up, however.
In his wallet, Alex carries a 'alien' ID as well as thirty dollars hidden under the credit card flap and about half a dozen pictures of his 8 year old son, Tony. He will show anyone the photos of his son every chance he gets.
Aside from the standard CIA authorized equipment and occasionally a Glock 22, Alex carries three cell phones. The first is a business phone and the second is a personal phone. The third is a special twin of a phone he bought his son so that Tony would be able to call him at any time.
Alex was born to Cinzia and Carlo Moratelli on June 18, just a few short years after his parents migrated to New York City from Italy. From a young age he was told of the hardships they suffered, namely in regards to crime. Such things were quickly compared to their situation in America, which was often described as being the free-est place one could live.
He attended All Hallows High School, a strict Catholic school for boys. His grades were some of the top in his class, and at age 18 he was accepted into Harvard, but passed up the opportunity when a teacher suggested that he apply to the CIA's Undergraduate work study program. He was accepted into the program and promptly moved to Washington, where he double majored in Information Technology and Law, and double minored in Arabic and Information Technology at Georgetown University. Alex graduated six years later, and began his career at the CIA.
Starting with the school for Intelligence Analysis, Alex moved through the internal organizations until he was bumped over to Special Activities in the Science and Technology division. He was there for two years before being transferred back to Intelligence, specifically the Counter Intelligence center. At age 40 he moved to the Counterterrorism Center.
At age 25 he married a young woman named Marie whom he had met in collage. A short four years later Marie set his car on fire just outside the house and left with a boyfriend. Alex later received divorce papers in the mail, which he promptly signed.
Five years later he met Alison. The two married three years later. At age 33 they had a son whom they named Antony Garret, after Alex's grandfather and Alison's father. Eventually Alison was unable to stand the long trips he took for work and his inability to discuss certain topics and filed for divorce. Alex was greatly saddened when she asked him to sign the papers, but did so without complaint. The two still have a friendly relationship and though little Tony still lives at his mother's full time, Alison is happy to let Alex take custody of him whenever he is home.
