Running for our Lives (A mutant RPG) ( )

Postby WindOnFire on Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:24 pm

Ever since an unexplained explosion somewhere in space seventeen years ago, radiation has been washing over the earth, causing mutations in humans. This has resulted in the creation of ‘mutants,’ humans with strange powers and abilities. Some of these mutants have been using their new powers for evil, while others try to help mankind.

Unfortunately, all of the ‘mutants’ are being judged off those few wrong-doers. A special government attack force has been relegated to capture the mutants- the MRF. (Mutant Resistance Force) Basically, every mutant they can find, they capture and throw into a special prison.

Because of this new danger, as the government sees it, scientists have been experimenting in secret on captured mutants. As an experiment, large numbers of convicts and test-tube babies were exposed to different types of radiation. This was all top-secret. As a result, even more mutants were created. These ‘labies,’ as they refer to themselves, are prone to spontaneous mutation due to chemical remnants in their systems.

Many of the older laboratory mutants died, but the babies were fairly successful, or so the scientists thought. For a few years, they were trained to use their powers and help capture rouge mutants. However, they didn’t like being treated like things- who would? And they escaped.

Now, mutants live in hiding, fighting for their lives. Discovery often equals death. Fighting has been going on for a long time (15 years), and many cities have been utterly destroyed. Many innocent humans have been killed. Empty cities are a refuge for mutants, because the MRF will (mostly) leave them alone there.
Many mutants find themselves in grave danger on a daily basis, since they can’t get to the free cities. Many live in sewers and empty warehouses.
As you can well imagine, many are getting tired of the run-and-hide survival techniques they have relied on the past, and uprisings are becoming more frequent. Some simply wish for peaceful co-existence, while others wish for more drastic changes.

Here is the character template:

Name (first and last):
Age:
Male/Female?
Power:
Labie or exposed to radiation?
Appearance:
Bio:
Strengths/weaknesses:
Personality:
Other:

Keep in mind:
• Mutants are refugees, so would probably have only one pair of clothes, and they would be ripped and stained.
• No different races (no vampires, werewolves, etc.)
• NO POWER REPEATS! Be original! This will give us a wider range of abilities.
• One power only.
• PM WindOnFire with any special requests. (double power, power close to another) If you can’t think of someone to play/a power, ask. There are some powers that would greatly help this RPG.
• If you are a laboratory mutant, you can’t be more than sixteen. (15 years old is the preferred age)

Rules
• Everyone must have a weakness, and that doesn’t include kryptonite. The MRA must be able to injure you. No Mary Sues.
• No godmodding.
• PG13- no sex, nudity, and minimal swearing
• Posts should be at least a paragraph.
• Don’t kill another’s character. (Without permission)

Telekenisis, healing, and telepathy are taken.

Name (first and last): Kara Hunt
Age: 17
Male/Female? Female
Power: Telepath
Labie or exposed to radiation? Exposed to radiation
Appearance: Has brown long hair down to elbows with her bangs to the right of her face. They were cut that way a while ago so they stay that way. Square framed glasses and blue eyes. She’s very dirty and her clothes are tattered. Her jeans have huge holes in them. Sweatshirt is really gross and dirty. It used to be a bluish and now it’s black. Converse are really dirty too. Socks are really smelly and gross. She's about 5'5" too.
Bio: When she was about twelve her parents got rid of her. They cut her hair the way it is now right before they got rid of her so people wouldn’t recognize her and ask where her parents are.
Strengths/weaknesses: Her strengths are well knowing where the MFR is and talking to people through their mind when needed or when some of her friends are in a building and need some help with things. Weaknesses are getting hurt easily and having a bad power. Or at least that’s what she thinks she has a bad worthless power. What can she do with telepathy?
Personality: She’s sort of talkative. She’ll talk to people when they talk to her directly. She never really was a talkative person when she was little either. Anyway she’s very shy too around people she just meets. Once she gets to know them better she’ll start to warm up to them. People that meet her for the first time think she’s rude and not very friendly.
Other: No siblings and now no parents. Very lonely wishes to change her attitude and wants to be talkative but just can’t seem to talk to other people first.

Re: Running for our Lives (A mutant RPG) ( )

Postby WindOnFire on Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:52 pm

Name: Aly Spring

Age: 15-ish

Male/Female: female

Power: telekinesis. She can only lift things she would be able to move physically, but can exert an amplified force from her hands.

Labie or exposed to radiation: She isn’t quite sure…

Appearance: Aly is about 5’9” with long, dark brown hair. She is tanned and is very fit (it comes from the constant ‘fight for your lives thing!) She always wears a black tank top and ripped jeans, along with some old tennis shoes. She has brown eyes.

Bio: Aly has been on the streets for as long as she can remember, which isn’t very long. A year or two ago she was knocked out by another mutant, and lost all of her memories.

Aly doesn’t care about being a mutant, a refugee, losing her memories, or pretty much anything else. She takes life as it goes, and doesn’t worry past her next meal. She isn’t associated with any groups. If asked, she would like equality between mutants and normal humans, but only so she could stop hiding in sewers and buy fast food legally.

Strengths/weaknesses: Aly is good at combat, being fast, strong, and flexible. She doesn’t care what others think, but she doesn’t follow directions very well, being strongly opinionated. She has a horrible temper, though.
Personality: Stubborn, intelligent, and somewhat aloof, Aly doesn’t talk unless directly addressed. She is rather laid-back.

Other: More will be revealed through the RPG.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Gale Matthews

Age: 17

Male/Female: male

Power: healing (himself and others)

Labie or exposed to radiation: radiation

Appearance: He has short sandy blond hair that constantly falls into his eyes. His stained white muscle shirt emphasizes his well-muscled chest. He has brown eyes, and is tanned. He wears torn jeans with his muscle shirt. He is about 5’10” and strong.

Bio: Gale only recently left his home and his loving parents when the MRF began snooping around. He was quickly adopted into a small group of mutants lead by Rolf, a large man who can create walls. He is constantly chaffing under Rolf’s strict rules. He is disgusted by Anna, one of the others in the group, a 15 year-old-girl with a gigantic crush on him.

Strengths/weaknesses: He has to fight hand-to-hand due to his non-combat power and lack of weapons. He is immediately healed of any wounds or injuries he sustains, including scars. There is no known limit on his power, but his power seems to be carried in his blood.

Personality: Rather kind and caring underneath his tough exterior, it is easy to see through him. He is a leader, and is always looking for something to do. He hates hiding from the MRF. He is looking to strike back, and would prefer equality to ruling over the normal humans.

Other: Gale does like girls, just not Anna.

Does anyone want to join Rolf’s group? (Gale’s)

Name: Isabelle Genuity
Age: 16
Male/Female?: Female
Power: Telekinesis/Telepathy
Labie or exposed to radiation?: Exposed to radiation
Appearance: Isabelle has long blonde with natural highlights, and it is cut in a layer style. She has high cheekbones, plump lips, perfectly white teeth, and blueish greenish grayish eyes. Mostly they appear blue, but in special lights they can appear green or gray. However, when she is performing or using her power, her eyes appear to be very violet; but when she is angry, her eyes turned a deep maroon. She has olive skin, and doesn't have freckles, but she does have dimples when she smiles. She is tall and slender, but not extremely skinny. She has a naturally muscular frame, but is also surprisingly strong both physically and mentally.
Bio: She was born on December 7th, 1992 in a hospital near New York City, but was raised on a ranch near the central valley in California. She had graduated at age 15 from high school with the highest GPA and all AP classes. She was well liked and known by everyone, but didn't really hang out with anyone.
Strengths/weaknesses: She is slightly above averagely strong physically, but extremely above average mentally. She has the abilities of the following: mind reading, future predicting (mostly using patterns), and able to move things without contact, or in other words, by her mind. She has weaknesses, but one that is so simple, it is usually overlooked. Her weakness is any type of distraction, especially regarding intelligence, she has such an attraction to any type of distraction because she loves to do things and she notices everything. It doesn't help having ADHD either. Other different ones are crystals and rubies.
Personality: Nice, kind, funny, smart, sporty, and fun loving. Even though she doesn't like to hang out with many people, she loves doing random things with people she doesn't know well, and she is extremely outgoing.
Other: She had grown up with only a mother, and had always loved animals growing up on a ranch.

This is great, but if few other people show up, would one of you be opposed to being a 'labie,' so we are more balanced? And if you want to, one of you could be in Gale's group? Well, it is Rolf's group really, and he is a 'talent collector.' He gathers mutants with usefull powers. san-fran-fan-101 (can I just call you Isabelle?), he would think your power extremly useful, so would try to get you to join for sure, and ShadowDragonFox, he would like yours, too.

There is only one problem- ShadowDragonFox- maybe we could work in sort of ancient magic or some such thing into your family line to explain the shape-shifting, such as an 'ancient magic' passed down through one side of your family combined with the radiation to create some strange mix of abilities? Remember, there is no such thing as werecreatures here, but I think we could make one exception if we had a good explination.

For right now, just say that you are in the group, and when we start RPing, You'll be with Gale. I don't want everyone to start together, but if Tylee and Gale are together, and Aly, Isabelle, and Kara are a little bit spread out, and meet each other fairly quickly, I think it will work. Would everyone be okay with waiting just a teeny bit longer, then starting? I was also thinking that we could start in a city being bombed by the MRF, where Aly, Isabelle, and Kara are fighting/hiding, evntually find each other, then find or are found by Rolf's group. Is that a good beginning for everyone, or does anyone have any special requests?

Also, san-fran-fan-101, in your character sheet, it seems to say that Isabelle has a weakness diamonds and rubies? That isn't quite what I was thinking...if you have a reason to this, or I misunderstood, I apologize. But otherwise...would you mind making Isabelle slightly weaker, physically, insted of above average? You know, just normal. In a fight, I picture her using her brains more that brawn. She could use her abilities and plain old intellect to outfox her opponents. (Not refering to Tylee in any way!)

Postby Nevrmore on Sun Mar 29, 2009 5:06 pm

Name (first and last): Bruce LaChance

Age: 17

Male/Female: Male

Power: Super-Scrutiny. The ability to instantaneously analyze and categorize any situation he may find himself in and grill it for possible weaknesses, holes, and other things that might be advantageous to him, if he can act on it.

Labie or exposed to radiation: Radiation

Appearance: Tall, just breaking the six-foot barrier. Bruce has a lanky body type, but he is very fit because his power allowed him to come up with the perfect workout routine. His skin is a perfectly tanned brown thanks to his power allowing him to figure out the exact amount of time he should stay out in the sun. His hair is brown and combed as close to perfection as one could manage as a refugee. His eyes are a deep, dark brown.

Bio: Bruce was considered a genius for most of his life thanks to his ability to find and understand patterns in the tests he was given at school, allowing him to make perfect scores on nearly all of them. He was highly praised until a head injury caused him to get an MRI Scan upon his visit to the hospital. The doctors discovered that his hippocampus was vastly expanded beyond normal limits, and realized that it was due to the radiation-related mutations that had been striking the area. The doctors, being douchebags, refused to treat Bruce. His family and friends disowned him. He went on the run, using his super-scrutiny to live as comfortably as one can in complete refuse.

Strengths/weaknesses: Aside from his power to quickly analyze any situation, he's just a normal kid. He can be hurt just as easily as anyone else. Prick him and he will bleed and all that jazz. His strength comes from his ability to quickly strategize and comprehend most anything.

Personality: Bitter and disconnected.
And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown as you go down, all alone,
Dragged down by the stone.

Name (first and last): terra knight
Age: 15
Male/Female? female
Power: incredibly strong "super" strength
Labie or exposed to radiation? labie
Appearance: dark hair, tan skin, gray eyes, 5' 2" tall, slim, wiry or gangly. baggy 2 sized too big cargo pants, a dark gray slightly ripped hoodie, medical tape and other torn clothes on her feet
Bio: she grew up in a lab, she escaped about 4 months prior to rp. has been hiding and traveling above ground as much as she could to escape the dank sewers.
Strengths/weaknesses: can get to where she needs to go, but is over careful and is very prideful, almost never follows dirrections from some one not her friend.
Personality: head strong, solem (mostly, has periods of goofy ness and good natured fun)
Other: not much.
Anywhere is walking distance, if you’ve got the time.

“A friend is one who walks in when others walk out.” [Walter Winchell]

Great to have you both! We have a great range of talents, too, and it is nice that we have bith physical and mental powers.

Just a question, Nevrmore- does Bruce have to activate his power, meaning that it doesn't work automatically? For example, if he didn't think to activate it at a certain time, the MRF could effectively sneak up on him? That would make it more realistic, every power has a loophole.

Other than that, I think everyone is great, and we will start soon. What do you think of the plan previously suggested for starting? If either of you wants to be introduced in some other way, suggest it here or PM me, and we can work something out.

PS: Hello, San-fran-fan-101, are you there? Oh, forget it, you are hereby dubbed Isabelle. Anyway, are you going to respond to anything or never come back!? Paranoid, here!

Re: Running for our Lives (A mutant RPG) ( )

Postby Woland on Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:15 pm

Name (first and last): Chekov Branson
Age: 67
Male/Female? Male
Power: Formulaic Molecular Orbital Control
Labie or exposed to radiation? Neither - out of towner. Powers provided by medicaid.
Appearance: Caucasian, 5'11, brown eyes, combed brown hair, Dupond mustache. Likes to wear porkpie hats and overalls.

Bio: A retiree painter, he decided to explore the world after acquiring a medicaid package provided by his country's government. The Homeland Medical Association had offered large cash rewards to any mutants after the irradiating began, in exchange for their participation in twelve month periods of extended study. Due to recession, many had jumped at this opportunity and the HMA experienced a cavalcade of participants. With such a large turnout, they were able to reverse engineer many of the mutations in a matter of years, and ultimately discovered biochemical principles which allowed them to tailor a compound selection of said mutations into a pharmaceutical drug, dispensing it to the population at large through medicaid. However, due to the newly turbulent condition of neighboring countries, Chekov's government decided to follow the example of Switzerland and maintain a removed prosperity rather than spreading their resources thin with excessive international involvement. But Chekov's newfound mutation-fueled vitality left him restless, and he decided to travel regardless of the chaos beyond his country's borders. After all, bombed-out cities can be quite pretty in their own way. He currently works as a dock hand at a run-down port town, slowly building up enough money for his next boat trip.

Strengths/weaknesses: Chekov is an adaptable man, but often at the expense of moral fervor. He has come to see the grays of the world, and would rather not get any on his jacket.

Personality: Chekov is rather easygoing. He likes his food and he likes his cigars, and ignoring the ever changing interstate travel regulations, he has a hard time finding much to complain about, even in these unfortunate times. Much like his country, he maintains a sort of removed contentment that many would take offense to, but none wouldn't envy.

Other: He raised pigeons as a hobby for ten years. This has absolutely no bearing on the story.

I don't really see how it's more realistic, but it can be inactive in that if he's not paying attention, it won't work. He has to be active and vigilant to be able to use it, so the MRF could sneak up on him if he were off his guard.

Still accepting members?

Name (first and last): Kik 17-21-49
Age: 15
Male/Female: Female
Power: Illusion
Labie or exposed to radiation: Labie

Appearance: Kik's features are prominent and could most likely be named african, though she has seen no record of this. Her skin is smooth and the color of mahogany. Her hair is kept in tightly curling braids, her eyes are wide and almond shaped, and both are very nearly black. She is thin from being unable to eat as much as she should, and she seems even thinner because she is pretty tall, about 5 foot 9.

Bio: Kik was born and raised in the lab. For as long as she could remember, the scientists had been obsessed with the root of her power. She was always strictly controlled and was only allowed to use her powers under very monitored circumstances. She escaped about 6 months prior to the beginning of the rp.

Strengths/weaknesses: Kik's power allows her to force anyone she wants to experience what she wants to, completely. This includes physically. She is able to make you feel the heat of flame, or the blow of an adversary. She cannot, however, access any of your thoughts, and so an enemy may know that what they are seeing isn't real. Also, she has yet to fully master her power and while she has no problem creating whatever illusion she wants, the amount of energy she exerts is sporadic and she could easily exhaust herself on small things.

Personality: Because the experiments or radiation, Kik is unbalanced in the extreme. She often has strange and uncalled for reactions, but essentially, she is a sweet and innocent person, who's seen a little too much.

Other: Because Kik spent so much time sheltered in a lab, there are things she still does not understand about the outside world. There are certain things that she fears unconditionally, such as needles.

Thanks for clearing that up, Nevrmore, it just confused me a bit.

Nice to have you, Kik!

Woland- what does your power entail, exactly? It sounds fancy, but as far as I know, molecular orbitals change one element to another...is that what you mean? I do like that you introduced some possible new elements into the storyline, especially the part about countries that would possibly accept mutants. For the sake of most of the world’s paranoia of mutants, however, would you mind saying that the spreading of Medicaid mutant powers is a secret operation, concealed form the other countries? Otherwise, I'm positive that nuclear warfare would be imminent.

I can't believe how well this is coming together! We have labies, age differences, lots of different talents- :D

Is everyone good with starting now, or do you want to wait? If we're all ready, I'll post the beginning, unless someone has an awesome relevation they would like to impart.

EDIT: I realized my character sheet for Gale might be misleading- he heals both himself and others...I'll fix it.

EDIT: I am so sorry I can't do much right now my computer is being crazy and it's hard for me to get here. The RPG will have to wait untill tomorrow I'm sorry.

Name: Austin Avon (Commonly called Avon)
Age: 15
Male
Power: Is Powerless
Mutant Type: Lab-Related
Appearance:
He is tall and muscle-bound, has green eyes, and dark brown hair.

He wears a distinctive superhero mask. It is multicoloured red, blue, orange, black, and yellow in that order. It shifts to those colours in a rainbow-like pattern, moving in a downward angle to the left or to the right.

Bio: A failed experiment, Avon was thought dead by those in operation. The scientists dumped his body outside city limits but weeks later, he returned, killing those that had tested on him. After disposing of the corpses, Avon donned an ever-changing ski mask he had stolen from that military compound. When shot at by the guards, Avon noticed his reflexes were incredible, nearly superhuman. However, he soon learned that this was not a power, but rather, an adrenaline flow. Angered that his creators had failed and knowing why he was tossed aside like trash, he swore revenge on the humans and mutants working for the U.S. military. He later renounced his vengeance, taking on a responsibility he said was “His and his alone.” He planned to be a hero among the people. Mutants he has met in his travels suspect he will go to drastic, unnecessary, and horrific measures to glorify himself as a champion of his people.

Strengths/weaknesses: He is a skilled combatant, having been trained extensively before experimentation. This was due to the fact that those who had genetically modified him intended to use him a super soldier. He mostly fights free-style, grappling, kicking, and punching as needed. He is usually on the offensive. Because he has no powers, that is his weakness.

Personality: Serious, egotistical, and superficial. (He doesn’t seem to have much of a personality to others due to his longing to be a hero and a mutant. He keeps to himself, mostly driving out the normal aspects of himself.)

Other: Not much else is known about his former life. Relatives were killed by mutants. (He does not know this.)
Can't you see this is the Land of Confusion?

Well, the power essentially involves the very basic principles behind molecular bondings. Attach a carbon to a carbon, form a double bond between the carbons and then oxidize, that sort of thing. But orbitals also determine where electrons exist in relation to atoms, their level of excitement, etc, and control of the electrons within an orbital can mean the emission of wave-particles or the reversal of an electron's spin. There are many other properties of orbitals, molecular and atomic, but it gets somewhat complicated. What it all boils down to is the building blocks behind particle interactions, at a certain scale. Not minute enough to get into the workings of quantum mechanics, other than where electron positions are involved, but still fairly minute stuff. What that means for actual abilities could be nothing, or a lot of things, depending on what the person can actually figure out. Problem is, you can't really experiment with these powers. If you're just given the drug and not taught anything, the drug means practically nothing. You just keep on living normally. The manipulation of orbitals, especially to the extent that said manipulation could be rendered useful, is just too complex. It takes scientists to actually engineer the abilities, and then instructors to teach those abilities to amateur power holders. What that comes to is 'abilities' being handed out at an advisory board's discretion. You get the harmless stuff through medicaid, but you're not going to be wielding weaponized powers without a license. For most people, the power simply means a much stronger constitution. The HMA made all sorts of medical enhancements with the tools they were able to develop from such a nuanced control of micro particles. Bones are stronger, metabolism is faster, the body is less prone to disease and falling chainsaws. In other words, the power is resilience. People from Chekov's country are hard to kill, and harder to keep dead. Their bodies contain a selection of board-approved bodily enhancements and protective mechanisms, none of which help them to put the hurt on a fellow citizen, or even do particularly interesting things. Those powers are reserved for the military. Which, as previously stated, is currently inactive due to pragmatic disassociation from the rest of the world.

Now then, on to the issue of the country. First off, it is doubtful that a rivalrous series of war-torn nations would attempt to bomb a neighboring superpower which, while they were off getting their men killed and depleting their natural resources, was busy stockpiling resources, not killing off its men, and being generally prosperous. You don't poke the sleeping bear. It isn't that they couldn't take Chekov's country. It's that it wouldn't be worth it.

On a related note, this country isn't really going to be accepting any mutants. Or rather, it isn't really going to be accepting much of anybody. The fact that this country is maintaining neutrality means that it isn't taking immigrants from other nations, or even tourists. That would be an international alignment, and an act of war. It is allowing international travel by its own citizens, but at their own risk, and they are not given any sort of immunity.

Hope that helps clear up my bio, good luck with your computer.
