About

Stuff happens. Sometimes good stuff, sometimes bad stuff. Sometimes people find themselves in predicaments they don’t know how to get out of. Sometimes people lean on others for the support they need while they get through the mess they’re in. And sometimes, people just don’t care.

Some months ago, a number of teenagers turned round to find themselves in one of life’s messier predicaments; they were homeless. Whether they had chosen to leave, or had been forced out of their homes, all were alone and had nowhere to go except the streets of London. A handful of such people found themselves together, having discovered a deserted warehouse beside the Thames that was safe and dry, and provided a secure environment for them to spend the long nights.

Over time, the group began to grow; there is safety in numbers, after all. Finding themselves able to lean on each other for support, a closeness developed, such as might be found in a caring community. The strength they drew from each other allowed them to welcome yet more into the fold, and so what started out as three individuals on a cold winter’s night seeking nothing but shelter has become a rapidly growing society.

Rules
*Please Note* OhhMyGeeABumbleBee and myself are gods in this RP, meaning she can enforce any of the following rules just as much as I can [x
1) All the normal rules; keep romance/violence pg13 etc, but there's a few extras.
2) Please try and be as literate as you can. We all have off-days - mine have been quite frequent recently - and we all make mistakes, but I'm expecting at least two paragraphs per post, one post per day - minimum. If I don't get the impression that you can do this from reading your character sheet, I won't accept you. Simple.
3) Swearing is 100% permitted, but don't go overboard. Eff and blind all you want, by all means, but it looks ridiculous if it's every other word.
4) When describing how your character became homeless, please try and be original. From the dealer to the addict, the attacker to the victim, the suicidal to the just plain bored - anything can be in there, just be realistic about it.
5) I shouldn't have to say this, but don't god-mod. It pisses me off.
6) Please don't post in the IC until you've been accepted in the OOC, that pisses me off too.
7) HAVE FUN! It's meant to be fun!

Role: See above
Personality:

Not really expecting much interest, but more spaces can be opened once (if) everything else is filled; to that extent, let me know if you want to reserve a character.

Re: Sanctuary On The Streets - OOC ( )

Postby Thunder on Sat May 30, 2009 5:30 pm

Name:
Blake Rowin
Age:
19
Gender:
Male
Orientation:
Straight
Role:
Original Member of the group
Personality:
Blake tends to act big and mean. He isn't one to keep his thoughts to himself and even when he has nothing to say, he'll be showing his feelings through his expression. Sarcastic and rude remarks are common to be flowing from Blake and his short temper makes him hard to be around for most people. If you're someone that Blake likes and trusts, you'll see a different side of him. He acts like an older brother to many of the other group members and isn't afraid to put his like on the line for his friends, or the people who he considers family. It's hard for Blake to actually like people, but if he thinks you're a nice person, he keeps his comments inside of his head instead of saying them out loud. Blake realizes that sometimes he over reacts or gets over protective but he thinks that what he's doing is helping everyone, rather than making life harder. Blake likes to hold the status of being someone who will never back down from a challenge, and someone who basically scares people away. He is always looking for a good physical fight, and stealing isn't something that he is afraid to do, even if he does it more than necessary. Drugs and alcohol aren't things that Blake actually uses but he does steal and sell them to make a profit. The only things that Blake uses is cigarettes.
Bio:
Blake never knew any of his family. If he did, he would know that his mother and father were both university teachers who were extremely excited about their son. If he did, he would know that his mother and father were both devestated after their two-month old son was kidnapped out of his crib on Christmas Eve and he would know that they spent years searching for their missing son. If Blake knew his family, his story wouldn't have went like this.

It was Christmas Eve when the sleeping infant was silently stolen from his warm home on the outskirts of London. Both of his parents were asleep and didn't notice their child was missing until the next morning. It was too late, and Blake was already headed far from London. His captors, a young Spanish couple, had stolen the little boy to sell. Blake was sold the next morning in an "under-the-table" deal, where he was secretly given to an elderly couple who strived to have a child. In return, the Spaniards got a load of cash and then returned back to their illegal works. Blake was left to grow up with these old folks, falsley learning that his parents died in a car-crash and that they were his grandparents. Blake never really realized that anything was wrong because the old couple were nice people who loved and cared for the growing boy.

At the age of ten, the man passed away of a heart-attack. Blake and his "grandmother" were left in their home for about three more months, when the woman had a seizure while driving, and got killed when crashing into another car. After the phonecall from the police, Blake was never seen again. He was supposed to wait for the police to come and take him to a foster home but by the time they reached the London home, Blake already had packed his bags, taken every ounce of money from the house and fled. He traveled far from London at first, and after about a year he returned to the city.

He struggled for survival, but ended up enjoying the exictement of a homeless life. He learned to fight for money, food and to steal in order to survive. Blake was one of the first members of the group and he takes pride in knowing it. Because of his hard past, Blake has had a hard time in accepting strangers and he's always wary of how to act around new people.
Appearance: Image
Other: Blake has a habit at staring at people or things. He'll look over at someone, and begin to think about them or mentally insult him. It creeps people out sometimes because he'll be lost in his own little world for five minutes sometimes before snapping out of it. Blake also to break rules just for the fun of it. If he knows that one member of the group hates smokers, he'll follow them around smoking, or if he knows that someone has just stolen some neat new thing, he'll hide it. Blake is a strong believer in karma, although he never admits it and so after he does do these bad things, he tries to be nice to an equal amount of people so that he doesn't have bad luck.

Postby almostinsane on Sat May 30, 2009 5:37 pm

Name: James Miller
Age: 16

Gender: Male

Orientation: Straight

Role: Original Member

Personality: James is sarcastic and somewhat cynical. He doesn't believe people do things out of the kindness of their hearts but there are exceptions to the rule. James likes to break the law whenever he can get away with it. He disrespects all authority except for any authority he chooses to abide by of his own free will. James is a very loyal individual, willing to risk almost everything for a friend in need. He will, however, tease his friends and annoy them when he feels like it. If one of his friends acts like a jerk or anything, James lets them know quite clearly. Despite his independent streak, however, James truly cares for his friends.

Bio: James never knew his father and his mother never told him anything about him other than that he was a deadbeat loser that left as soon as he was born. His mom was a barmaid, but had an alcohol and drug problem, but she was a caring parent, nonetheless. One day, she came home drunk and went to sleep on the couch. She never woke up. In his grief, James ran away from child services. He caught a train for London and for awhile, lived on the streets.

Soon, he fell in with other homeless kids and, with them, found the warehouse. Thus far, he enjoys his new life as it fits his independent nature rather well. He does what he wants, when he wants, and couldn't be happier about that fact. When he's bored, there's plenty of things to entertain him, his favorite being to mess with rich tourists. He doesn't understand why some people are grim about being on the streets. He finds it rather fun.

Appearance: Image

Other: He's a good artist. He draws a lot. However, he prefers to keep it a secret and is very sensitive about it. If someone ever insults his drawings by mistake, he'd lose his temper and punch the offending person. James also keeps always keeps with him a pocket knife and metal cross he wears around his neck.

Postby Daemon_of_Cybele on Sun May 31, 2009 1:19 am

Name: Danielle 'Danny' Thompson

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Orientation: Straight

Role: Original member

Personality: Danny has a fat mouth. That has never been up for debate- not since the moment she learned to talk. Really, she says whatever crosses her mind, and, for lack of many normal moral codes, has a strong belief in brutal honesty. She likes to think she's tough enough to back up everything she says, and she gets into enough fights that she should, but it seems that everybody is still bigger than she is, so she gets the crap kicked out of her frequently. Despite the regularity of her getting into trouble she can't get out of herself, she refuses to let anyone else try to solve her problems for her.

For her 'family' she has a grudging sort of love and loyalty- she may complain all the time about them, but if it comes down to it, she's with them all the way.

Bio: Born to the owner of a record store, her father died before she was born, leaving her mother to run the store and raise a child. At first, things went nicely- Danny spent the day with, at first, her grandmother, and then at school, and went home to her mother and her mother's musician friends, who all seemed to flock to their studio apartment. She and her mother shared a 'room'- a curtained off corner of the apartment- while the musician friends crashed on the various couches and futons in the apartment.

But when she was twelve, three months after her grandmother died, the record store began to fail miserably. In an effort to make sure her daughter had everything she needed, her mother sent Danny to her father's brother, who blamed Danny's mother for his brother's- her father's- death. After a year of mistreatment, Danny just took off her the streets.

Appearance: Image

Other: To say that Danny is a fan of alcohol would be putting it lightly. There is little else the girl will touch, but she drinks enough to be a drinker, and not enough to be an alcoholic. Danny is also a compulsive nail-biter, and she talks
about herself in the third person when she talks about her emotions or things she's done wrong. Music is, like it was for her parents, a passion, although one that often lacks the resources to support it. She's attempting to teach herself guitar, and is pretty bad at it.

One of her greatest treasures is her hair. It's one of the things that she actually puts time and effort into.
we're gonna revel in hating what's going on.

Name: Aimee Marshall

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Orientation: Straight

Role: Original Member

Personality: Aimee is usually a bright, happy bubbly and slightly eccentric person. Although you wouldn’t want to rub her the wrong way ever since her mom kicked her out onto the streets she’s gained quite a mouth and is defeinitly not afraid to use it. But that’s what makes her the fun, head- strong, independent person she is .

Interests- Aimee can play the piano, drums and guitar. She loves being surrounded by her friends and family.

Bio: Aimee’s mom finally kicked her out after she’s had enough of Aimee’s late night partying, going missing for a couple of weeks and suddenly showing up out of nowhere like nothing has happened. And of course Aimee’s “Bad influence” boyfriend Dan.

Re: Sanctuary On The Streets - OOC ( )

Postby sweet_angle66 on Sun May 31, 2009 7:56 am

Name: Melanie ‘Mel’ Wright
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Role: Future Member of the Group

Personality: Mel’s personality has changed quiet a lot in the last few months and weeks. Her family and close friends would’ve described her as a very outgoing, laidback type girl, always wanting to be centre of attention, always full of energy. She was always up for a laugh and some fun even if it meant breaking a few rules. At times she can get very annoying as she talks non-stop about the most random things. But since the whole boyfriend thing, she seems to have become a quieter person and it takes her now a long time to really open up to people and show her true side. She now is seen as a more aggressive and stubborn type girl who has a few trust issues but all she needs to do is relax a little more and forget about her past so that her bubble side can come out again.

Bio: Mel grew up in a well of family; her parents both had successful jobs which allowed her to go to a privet school. Her life was going fairly smoothly, she had good grades, a great group of friends and before she knew it a total gentleman of a boyfriend, or so she thought. Mel and her boyfriend William seemed to be inseparable and the ‘cutest’ couple at there school, everyone thought they would end up marrying each other once school was finished. He was her first real boyfriend and Mel couldn’t see her every being with anyone else but him. Her parents seemed to love him too and when she asked if she could move in with him they agreed. So at the age of 17, she moved out of her home and in with William. The first few weeks seemed to go pretty well, both enjoying each others company but when William started to hang out with the wrong crowd and doing drugs, this fairytale story came crashing down. William turned from a gentleman to an abuse drug addict. Mel at first thought it was just a one time thing and that he was stress and need to let his anger out, but before she knew it he got her hooked of drugs as well and his verbal abuse became physical. Mel pushed herself into a deep hole as she just kept trying to ignore it and kept using drugs and drinking in hope that it would just all go away. She dropped out of school, her circle of friends seemed to detach themselves from her and so did her parents and William became more abusive threatening her if she ever left him. Mel knew that she couldn’t go on like this, so one day when William was out with his buddies she ran away, grabbing anything she had left and fled to the streets. She know travels from homeless shelters to shelter, occasionally sleeping on a park bench or in an alleyway. Never staying in one place more than once in fear of William finding her.

Appearance: Image
Bronzy gold skin colour, dark brown coloured eyes, her hair is a brown blonde colour.

Other: She has been clean from drugs for about 3 weeks and she has a bit of sweet tooth. Mel has replaced her drug addiction with a lollies and sweets addiction, bubblegum and lollipops being one of her favourites. She is also a sucker for fast and expensive cars; she did earn some money one time street racing.

Name: Samantha (Sammi) Nicholls
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Orientation: She's bi leaning towards straight, having never considered any girl as more than a fling whereas she would have what she considers a relationship with guy.
Role: Future member of the group
Personality: Sammi is incredibly shy around new people and she hates to cause a fuss because she is terrified of being the centre of attention. She dislikes asking people for help in case they think little of her and has always tried to deal with her problems on her own. The first impression you get from her is of some body who's well off, seeing as she always has to look good and always knows which clothes on the sales rack will last and what goes well with what..
Once you get to know Sammi her true personality shows, which might not necessarily be a good thing. She is very protective of her friends and is always willing to fight anyone who insults her or them. She has a way of being able to pick at peoples weaknesses and yet say the right thing at the right time but she often speaks without thinking and doesn't necessarily pick up when she hurts someone’s feelings. Sammi is an incredible flirt tending to subconsciously alter her pose or change her tone of voice when somebody she likes is close to her.
Bio:Sammi has made her own way in life for the past two years after having been kicked out of her house by her incredibly catholic parents after her mother had walked into her bedroom to find Sammi and her girlfriend kissing on top of the bed covers. Her mother had packed her bag for her and threw it out of the front door pushing Sammi after it who, on a snap decision, made her way to her girlfriends house who pretended she didn’t know who on earth Sammi was when her mother had come up behind her.
She had heard many stories on the television of children running away from home to big cities and decided it could in fact, be the best place to go, seeing as nobody would be likely to recognise her there and she could get a job. Which she did, as a ‘waitress’, and got good pay for what she did, until she got fired because her boss had tried to ‘touch’ her.
After being fired she resorted to doing odd jobs and even begging on the sidewalk to make enough money to keep her from starving, and of course, she had to look good.
Appearance: Image
Other: Sammi enjoys teasing people, wether it's boasting off something somebody wants, or wether it's working out peoples pet hates and using it agaisnt them, she knows she can always get away with it by acting innocent. It's incredibly hard to panic Sammi.

Postby DyingHere on Sun May 31, 2009 7:05 pm

Well yay, I wasn't expecting this much interest! Umm, almostinsane, I'm sorry to ask, but do you think you could get some more info in there? Other than that, everyone's accepted and I will get round to editing you into the first post.
Aaliyah, m'sad you decided to drop out</3

So it took me all day to do this, but here's my character:

Name: Sky Pearce
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
Role: Original Member

Personality: Sky is the kind of person that is always there but isn't noticed until you piss her off. She's very quiet, and keeps to herself rather than branching out into the group and making friends, but if something annoys her, she's not afraid to stand up and speak her mind. Although there are a few people in the group that she's close to, she does tend to isolate herself, preferring to sit on the sidelines and watch people rather than get involved. She has very strong personal values but isn't quick to judge others, even though first impressions are important to her and tend to stick with her. She doesn't really care what people think of her; only the opinions of those closest to her matter. Despite appearances, she isn't shy, she just prefers her own company.

Bio: Sky used to be a very gregarious girl; outgoing, social, friendly, very popular in school - she was everything everyone wanted to be. That is until the family was ripped apart when her father's alcohol dependence reached breaking point, and he backhanded her mother into the wall. A divorce promptly followed, and the vicious custody battle that came in its wake was enough to make anyone close in on themselves. Sky became withdrawn and introspective, spending a lot of time on her own, completely shutting both her parents and her friends out; the only person she'd talk to was her little sister, Steph. When the custody case was closed, and the two siblings were separated, their mother leaving town with Steph was the final straw for Sky. Why her father had even bothered fighting for her she'd never understand, because once he'd won one of his children back, he merely retreated further into the bottle and only ever surfaced to ask what was for dinner.

Sky had been considering running away for a while when she caught the smell of smoke as she walked home from school one evening. One glance at the house told her what had happened; her father had fallen asleep, drunk, with a lit cigarette in his hand. It had happened before, but Sky had usually been there to stop any serious damage happening. This time, however, it looked like the whole ground floor was ablaze, and she could already hear the sirens in the distance. Taking one last look at the house she called her home and offering a silent prayer for her father's safety to the God she wasn't sure she should believe in, Sky ran back to her school to fetch the duffel bag containing a change of clothes, some money and a few personal belongings that had been kept in her locker for the past few weeks, and never looked back.

Catching the train to London, she roughed it in bus shelters and on doorsteps for a few days before she and a few other people discovered the warehouse, and that's where she's been for the past six months.

Appearance:
Image

Other: Even before the fire that may or may not have killed her father, Sky was a bit of a pyro. No matter where she goes or what she does, she always carries a small silver zippo branded with the union jack, and she plays with the flame constantly. Even though most of the personal belongings contained in the duffel bag she ran away with have been sold, the lighter is the one thing in all the world she refuses to be parted from.

Re: Sanctuary On The Streets - OOC ( )

Postby StarStruck on Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:29 pm

Name: Kylie Larson
Age: 12
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Role: Original Member
Personality: Kylie is pretty bitter and believes that being harsh is better than sugar-coating something just to make someone feel good. She is very pessimistic and is never afraid to insult someone about anything, and everything that she can find wrong. Kylie tries to act big and tough because she knows that's what it takes to live on the streets. If there was one thing that could be put as Kylie's major weakness, it would probably be people physically hurting her or men. Having a man who was basically her step-father constantly abuse her, Kylie is extremely wary of men and strives to stay as far away from them as possible. Being one of the younger members in the group, Kylie knows that her only way to hurt someone is through verbally hurting them and she knows that she has no advantage in actually fighting.
Bio:
"She's tryin' figure out why the world is so cold
Why she's all alone and ain't never met her family
Mama's always gone and she never met her daddy
Part of her is missing and nobody will listen
Mama's on drugs gettin' high up in the kitchen"

Kylie could say that she's never been happy in her life. Her father and mother were both only sixteen at the time when they concieved Kylie and her mother knew that there was no chance of her boyfriend staying. She was right and after the news reached her boyfriend, she never saw him again. Kylie's mother struggled through the nine monhts of pregnancy but was determined that once her baby was born, she would give her the best life that she could. Of course that all changed once her mother met a new man. Greg was his name, and he stayed with Kylie's mother throughout the pregnancy and while Kylie was growing up. He was never a nice man to Kylie but always seemed to play innocent while they were around her mother. It wasn't like the love-struck woman would care anyway, because she was always high on something or on the path to being drunk.
"Bringin' home men at different hours of the night
Startin' with some laughs... usually ending in a fight
Sneakin' in her room when her mama's knocked out
She tries to resist but then all he does is beat her
Tries to tell her mom but her mama don't believe her"

The beatings from Greg began when Kylie was only four years old. She would be left alone for many hours on weekends and when Greg and her mother returned, they'd both be far from sober. Normally her mother would still be passed out in the car when Greg crept up to Kylie's room and dragged the girl out of bed before pulling his belt off or using his own fist to hit her. Kylie tried to tell her mom about this but it would always end up in her mother yelling at her for lying or Greg finding out and her getting double the beatings that night.

So she gave up.

"Forced to think that hell is a place called home
Nothin' else to do but get some clothes and pack
She says she's bout to run away and never come back"

She was nine years old at the time of her departure from her home. She brought nothing more than the clothes on her back and enough money to last her a day, which was all it did end up lasting her. She paid for a trolley ride to London and from there, she made her wages by begging and sweeping up infront of a deli every afternoon. It was barely enough to keep the homeless girl alive, but she did manage.

Kylie found the group of homeless teenagers about a year ago. It was New Years Eve and London was packed at around eleven thirty at night. Clubbers and young people were all out on the streets and it was easy for the eleven year old to steal change off of the drunk partiers. She followed one group of teens after seeing how they were able to steal so easily and that was when she saw their place, basically inviting herself in and just never leaving.
Appearance: Image
Other: I'll have to edit with this later considering I'm going braindead now and have to work on a project. Hope it's okay!

My one on the IC? Yeah, I wasn't sure where you guys actually were if that's what you were talking about. I thought Sky left and saw Aimee on the streets but than the Aimee character walked into her section of the warehouse so I was confused on whether you both had ever left the warehouse or not. [Sorry, that was probably just as confusing.]

My OOC post was meant by are we starting out in the IC as if it were day or night? I saw that you posted as if it were night time but then others posted as if it were day.

RolePlayGateway is a site built by a couple roleplayers who wanted to give a little something back to the roleplay community. The site has no intention of earning any profit, and is paid for out of their own pockets.

If you appreciate what they do, feel free to donate your spare change to help feed them on the weekends. After selecting the amount you want to donate from the menu, you can continue by clicking on PayPal logo.
