"As I said," Vince continued, smiling at the other boy, "It's not quite as enchanting as they lead you to believe. Personal reasons to say the least." With that, he nodded and cast a surreptitious glance to Tess, who was glaring at him openly. He shot her a smile that said, 'oh, come on.' She rolled her eyes and stalked off down the hall again, not seeming to care if he was following her or not. "Fine, fine," he said to the boy, shaking his head. "My leash, commonly mistaken for my lovely sister, beckons. I didn't catch your name, though," he said, holding out his hand. "Daniel Vincent Lancaster. But if you call me Daniel, your life may come to an abrupt and sticky end, so Vince, please." Ahh, tasteless Vampire humor. There had to be some guilty satisfaction in life.

Tess threw her bag down in a seat near the back of her first class before crossing to the teacher and sliding her schedule across the table to him. He was a nervous man, balding and covered in plaid and khaki. He squinted at her slip of paper for at least two minutes before smiling wanly at her and telling her to take her seat.
She sat down heavily in her chair, rubbing her head vigorously. Perhaps she had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, but she had the sinking feeling that something deeply unpleasant would be waiting for her today. Somewhere in her musings it occurred to her that she should check to see exactly what class she had just enrolled into. Anatomy, huh? Well, that wasn't surprising. Biology had been the subject she'd planned on majoring in as a human ten years ago.
Finally deciding to take a cursory glance around the class, Tess was met with the typical sight of a high school classroom. Skinny jeans and short skirts, Varsity Jerseys and the faint smell of pot permeating the corner of the room that held the black-clad stoners. Awful perfumes from the "chic-chicks" in the front of the room, and anxiety rolling off those who felt they didn't belong. She could tell from their posture who had a host of friends available to them and who didn't. Completing her mental round of the class, her eyes drifted to the young man sitting beside her, a few seats down. The two of them were the only ones occupying the very back row.
Now here was an unusual character. He didn't seem like one that fit in instantly to the norm here.
It was a force of habit, really, something as natural as breathing. Tess focused her senses, pushing them to a higher caliber, and took in a deep breath of air from his direction.
She felt slammed with cold shock instantaneously, and could feel her pupils dilating. What in the WORLD was this guy? She found herself openly staring at him in a half-shocked, half-threatened way, her eyes near-black from the involuntary widening of her pupils. His smell was wrong, all wrong. He was too many familiar things all at once, which made him the most unfamiliar and unnerving thing she had encountered yet.
The teacher was talking now, and Tess tore her eyes away, heart hammering as Vince slipped suavely into the class and grabbed a seat beside her, raising his eyebrows.
"Would the two new students like to introduce themselves?"
******
Vince rolled his eyes. What a question. Did ANY new student ever really WANT to introduce himself? He grinned and strolled up to the front of the room, with Tess behind him.
"Well, for starters," he said, brushing his black hair out of his eyes. "I prefer to go by Vince. My sister and I are from London." Never one to mince words, Vince stopped there and glanced over to Tess to continue.
"Tess is fine for me," she said, already uncomfortable with standing in front of the class, especially after her strange episode from moments earlier. A werewolf who was intimidated by a room full of soft, breakable humans... how sad. "Like Vince said, we're from London."
Oh, wow, she thought to herself. That wasn't redundant at all. After a very awkward pause, Vince quietly said, "Ta-daaah," and held one hand out as if unveiling a magic trick. There were a few snickers from around the class, and they were thankfully allowed to take their seats again.
