Skolaris Nebula ( )

Postby Vyral on Fri Feb 25, 2011 8:13 pm

This is a collection of information to be used by Vyral/Parabola/Tiko/XavierDantius32/Gasmask in relation to various characters and storylines operated within the MV. People are free to interact with these creations, so long as they adhere to what has been created, and ask permission before making any drastic changes to the dynamics listed here. Just ask permission first, y'dig?

As for those already involved, I'd really appreciate you guys giving me a hand creating the content. As you might've guessed, this will be called the Skolaris Nebula. I've created a number of systems within this Nebula already, and a few factions have been mentioned. But, as it is I would appreciate you guys helping create more systems, factions and planets to fill out the gaps. Most of it can be filled in while we roleplay as and when is needed, but a rough backdrop would be good, I think. Post replies with suggested information, and if it seems suitable I'll edit it in. So, without much more babbling, here is what I have so far:

Systems and planets:

The Skolaris Nebula is a a collection of expansive systems, with varying governments and environments. No one faction controls the entire Nebula, though some have much more influence than others.

The Neith Rift is the smallest mapped area of the systems in the Skolaris Nebula. It is believed that only an eigth of the system has been explored and reliably mapped. Within this area only one habitable planet has been found, alongside a further two uninhabitable planets. Rumors are abound of a hostile race that once entered the Skolaris Nebula from beyond the Neith Rift, although there is no actual evidence to support this belief. The three planets all appear to have been drawn towards the Skolaris Nebula by its strong gravitational pull, a theory that supports the believed expanse of the Rift's true size.

Nerif - The only inhabitable planet in the Neith Rift, Nerif is a small, harsh but inhabitable world. It's surface is covered almost entirely in unstable oceans, with only one major continent on the entire planet. Though their is sparse ecological life, the high levels of carbon in the atmosphere mean that survival is hard on the planet. Even so a small colony of around 14 million people has grown on Nerif.

Ardun - An enormous, uninhabited rock planet. Nerif's constant below zero temperatures and its low oxygen atmosphere make the planet almost impossible to survive on. Though there are signs that oceans may have once existed on the planet, there have been no signs of life on the planet since its discovery. It's inhabitants are mostly toughened farmers and former Ebonois Expanse citizens.

Verma Delta - A tiny rock planet with a highly concentrated methane atmosphere. There are no signs that live has ever existed on this planet, and it is unlikely that it will ever become inhabitable. It is the furthest planet discovered in the Neith Rift.

The Ebonois Expanse is the buffer between the Neith Rift and explored space. As its name suggest this system is huge in proportion, with hundreds of planets within its domain. Though most have been explored, as many are deemed uninhabitable only a few are worthy of note. The system itself has no central government, but there is an increasing Nueverian Empire presence. The system as a total population of around 34 billion people.

Ebon Prime - A typical garden world. With a rich, pleasant atmosphere and budding ecological systems this planet is a perfect place for habitation. As such, huge colonies have established themselves on the planet which is in the center of the system. As a hub for the system, it has been occupied by the Nueverian Empire and has many outposts and bases situated across its surface. Although not under strict control, it still does not welcome criminals and conflict. It has an approximate population of 1.2 billion people.

Echun - Approximately two thirds of the distance between Ebon Prime and the Neith Rift sits Echun. A carbon dioxide and ethane atmosphere have long size frozen solid, making the surface itself uninhabitable. In efforts to expand into the Neith Rift, however, the Nueverian Empire have established a growing Space Colony in its atmosphere, named EN-1. It has a recorded population of 3 million. Laws are enforced strictly here, but the frequent deliveries make it a welcome target.

Denbaum - A standard methane-ammonia gas-giant that is close to Echun. It is the largest source of fuel in the system, and as such is almost entirely covered with fueling stations run by private companies and firms, whom run various layovers and 'less than acceptable' past-times. It is a frequent stop of for criminals passing between Ebon Prime and Echun, and has a population on 5 million.

Pas - A large moon, Pas has a trace carbon dioxide atmosphere but has very few signs of water on the planet. Due to being roughly equal distance between the Colsa Cluster and the distant Ebon Prime, this planet has been facilitated with a large Space Port by the Nueverian Empire. The port is well-maintained, although passport controls are much more lax than areas closer to the Nueverian Cradle. It has an approximate population of 23 million people.

Colsa Alpha and Beta - Two huge, twin garden worlds that sit on the edge of the Ebonois Expanse, close to the Okanta Verge. Both worlds are heavily populated, and both fall under the Nueverian Empire rule. Combined the planets have an approximate population of 12.4 billion people, with Colsa Beta being the slightly larger of the duo.

The Nueverian Cradle is the point of origin for the expansive Nueverian Remnant. It is small in size, with four inhabited planets, and sits between the Uhia Sea, Ebonois Expanse and the Gordia Expanse. The Cradle has a total population of 63 billion people, and is a highly advanced system.

The Gordia Expanse is around half the size of the Ebonois Expanse, and is controlled by the Nueverian Empire. It has around one hundred planets, half of which are inhabited.

The Boron Hole is an area of uncontrolled space within the Gordia Expanse. It has only two planets, only one of which is inhabited. Despite this, both planets have heavy atmospheric colonies and two large Space Ports sit within this space. The area is controlled entirely by a trio of powerful mercenary groups whom are rumored to have links to the nearby Elirian Remnant. There is an approximate population of 23 billion people.

Uhian Sea is a system that is openly at war with the Nueverian Empire, and sits on the borders of the Nueverian Cradle, the Ahrian Wastes and the Gordia Expanse. It has around fifty-three planets, of which only a few are known to the Nueverian Empire. The Uhian Sea is a collection of state-worlds which have all joined together to fight the growing intrusion of the Nueverian Empire. It has an estimated population of around 82 billion people.

The Okanata Verge is a rival system to those under Nueverian control. It has a total of thirty-eight planets of which twelve are inhabitable. It's ruling body is the Elirian Remnant which is formed of representatives of each planet, and strongly opposes the militarist authority of the Nueverian Empire. A loose truce sits between the two factions, with the border between the Verge and Nueverian space having a heavy military presence on both sides, although travel across it is possible, if ill advised. It has a population of 132 billion people.

The Ahrian Wastes is cut off by a large asteroid belt that enters the Uhia Sea's border. It has absolutely no government interference, and its few planets are almost entirely uninhabitable. As such it has a collection of Space Ports that are run by large mercenary organizations and colonies, all largely free of 'conventional' law. It is a dangerous area of space. It has a population of around 42 billion people.

Species:

Nueverian - A race of average humanoids, whom have achieved a high level of technological advancement earlier than their interstellar neighbors. Enthusiastic exploration, greed and a determined government have led to them forging an Empire that spans multiple systems and contains dozens of worlds and billions of people.

Raelin - Humanoids from the Ebonois Expanse. They were at a low stage of technological advancement when the Nueverian Empire arrived in their space, and were simply absorbed by the Empire. They are, on the whole, a loyal race and abide by the laws given to them. They are distributed across the Skolaris System.

Farien - Humanoids whom are native to the Ebonois Expanse. They put up a brief struggle against the initial forces of the Nueverian Empire, but were unable to organize themselves effectively against the invaders. They have since become a part of the Empire, although their race is looked on by many as 'beneath' the other races. Even so, many hold powerful positions of authority.

Uhians - Humanoids whom inhabit the Uhian Sea. They are a collection of different planet-states, and as such are only joined under this title due to their alliance against the Neuverian. There is no single level of technological advancement or culture, although most of the joined states are fairly liberal.

Gordias - Twice the size of the average humanoid, and with twice the bulk behind them. These abnormally large aliens are fairly slow-witted, but are commonly hired as muscle, due to their incredible strength, stamina and being near impervious to getting hurt.

Vangaru - A race of reptilian humanoids whom hail from the Ahrian Wastes. Their inability to mate with other races and their inherent aggression has stifled their populations growth, and their lack of a distinct homeworld means they are often nomadic. Although they are most concentrated in the Ahrian Wastes, Vangaru can be found across the Skolaris Nebula in various roles.

Elirian - A race of orange-skinned humanoids whom are all deaf, and communicate via sing language. Despite this genetic flaw, they are a stable, advanced race and inhabit the Okanata Verge. Due to their lack of military force they are unable to venture beyond their system for fear of the Nueverian Empire, but they do hold a steady border to keep them away. For the moment they hold a loose truce, and can travel beyond their system as civilians. Elirian are rarely found beyond the Gordia Expanse.

Angiaran - A race of dark-skinned humanoid creatures whom are facing the extinction of their race due to their being a nitrogen-based lifeform as opposed to carbon, a much more abundant element. They are a technologically advanced race whom migrated from a distant galaxy in search of nitrogen-rich systems, in the end stumbling upon the Tasiran. Their pursuit of nitrogen lead to them poisoning the atmosphere of many planets, and wiping out most of the systems population. They are an incredibly organized race, and focus heavily on military performance due to their need to move planets regularly. Their most recent move saw them enter the Neith Rift. They have become aware of the bountiful systems beyond

Factions:

Nueverian Empire - A young, bold and ruthless Empire that has forced itself upon a number of reasons, resulting in many wars, some of which are still going today. The Empire itself is ruled by a succession of monarchy, though the actual day-to-day running of the Empire is left to various departments spread around the systems. The Empire is currently at war with the Uhian Collective, and has a rough ceasfire with the Elirian Remnant.

[quote]Elirian Remnant - After an initial invasion by the Nueverian Remnant, the then Elirian Republic managed to band together and slowly push their oppressors back into Gordian space. While they are stretched too thin to push them any further back, they maintain a strong line of defence along their former border. They have a shaky ceasefire with the Neuverian Remnant, and are connected to those within the Boron Hole.

[quote]Uhian Collective - A collection of democratic planets joined together to form a large government whose aim is to repel the encroachment of the Nueverian Empire. There is no set standard to this faction, as they are made up of so many different species and cultures.

- Various mercenary/crime groups

Added a few races. Feel free to make your characters any of these. I'll add some more later, and you guys can add your own too. If you plan to make them organized, given them a planet/system as well that won't conflict too much with the setting.

Hold of on the Nueverian's, because Parabola is doing some stuff with them for the moment.

Istani Freikorp
Istan is a verdant world in the heart Uhian sea, comprising of expansive savannah, packed with a menagerie of exotic wildlife. Consequently, the locals are expret hunters and trackers, living in nomadic clans that persue the game across the plains. With the arrival of the collection of State worlds within the Sea, the Istani were reluctant to submit to forign rule. After a decade of brutal conflict which left the desert stained with blood, the natives bowed to the oppressors, and many were drafted into the ongoing conflict with the Nueverian Empire.

Back on Istan a group of like minded natives, under the inspiring leadership of one Hosep Kossar, thought they could make a more money selling their highly specialised skills to the free market. This rag-tag band of misfits aquired enough weapons on the black market to steal a Uhian cruiser, and hotfoot it to the border. After a few years of hap-hazard piracy on both the Nueverians and the Uhian Sea, the newly formed Freikorp stumbled upon an abandoned space station deep in the Ebonis Expanse. The station was deserted, apart from some incredibly dangerous bio-forms, that were quickly dispatched.

The fifty or so men and women of the Freikorp set up the station as a safe haven for soldiers of fortune and pirates alike. The station became a hub for the disenchanted, with many joining the Freikorp under Kossar. The population on the station swelled rapidly from fifty to over ten thousand. The influx of outsiders brought ships of every variety and class to the Istani, giving them a small fleet of around thirty warships. Today, the Istani operate in small groups of around a hundred men and a ship being hired out too one employer. They have earned a reputation across the Skolaris nebula for being hardened, merciless killers.

The Nueverian Federal Enforcement Agency:

An extensive and widely regarded as ruthless organisation, the Federal Enforcement Agency are the long, intrusive arm of the law in Nueverian space. Composed of well trained soldiers and guards, they act with the precision and heavy-handedness of a military force, and indeed, a large portion of the FEA are also part of the Nueverian military. As well as the soldiers in the FEA, there is a large portion of the organisation more closely related to a normal police force; consisting of detectives, inspectors, crime scene investigators and other such individuals. Known as the 'Section', this branch of the FEA is more closely involved with the civilian populace and with investigating criminals. The military part of the FEA can be called upon by officers of the Section to aid in the apprehension of criminals if they deem it necessary. There is a third arm of the FEA, S-Section (Special-Section) responsible for the more sensitive cases, and investigating Section and the Military.

As far as ranking goes, the three arms of the FEA have a similar hierarchy to their parallels in Earth's cultures (blanks included to accommodate for cross-arm hierarchy):

Section: Officer -> ----- -> Sergeant/Inspector -> Chief Sergeant/Inspector -> -------- -> Superintendent -> ------ -> Chief Superintendent -> Deputy Commander -> ----- -> Commander

S-Section: ------ -> -------- -> ------- -> Special Agent -> Supervisory Special Agent -> Division Chief -> ------- -> Section Chief -> Deputy Director -> ------ -> Director

Military: Private -> Corporal/Specialist -> Sergeant -> Master Sergeant -> Sergeant Major -> Lieutenant -> Captain -> Major -> Colonel -> Lieutenant General -> General -> Captain General

All of the branches of the FEA are equipped with the best weapons and tech that the Nueverian empire can afford them, and between them they maintain a very solid peace over worlds and stations where the empire has a strong foothold.
