So here is a pic I drew a while ago of my RP character Kynn. I think I drew this hmmm.... Maybe two years ago?
I thought to show it 'cause I just saw another person art pic, and I was like "Hey that's really good!" So I thought to show some of mine.
I have done a lot more art since this pic was done, and perhaps I may post them up if you guys like this one.
Maybe start my own little art gallery on here! ^_^

I like it overall :) It reminds me very much of "Fable" or "Fable 2" in terms of the body, which may be a good or bad compliment, which I'll leave at your disposal.

Wow. two years ago!? You're better than I was 2 years ago! Nice drawing!
I like how you colored it in and the shading is pretty good too.

With the exception of the head looking a little too big for the body style and the arms being too short (I just measured myself, and my fingertips hit about one-half of the way down the thigh, but that might just be my body type), this is pretty good.

Though fantasy seems to be your thing, I'd like to see what you can do outside of that genre as well.
How long will he keep on fighting? How long will his pain last? Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure...

Non Fantasy...? Ummm, yes I have a few but not many.
I love this style, and his arms are too small? *Looks at pic...* Hmmm, Well, I'm not very good when it comes to proportions. As for his head though, it is suppose to be big, thats kinda my style.

I've changed my drawing style quite a bit though from the last time this pic was drawn, I try new things different types of shading or trying something new with their faces. I'll show one more pic, umm.... *Decides which one to show*.

Okay here, what do you guys think of this one?
Image
Okay the color is a bit faded and blurred (Due to my scanner...) >.>
But all in all it looks pretty much like the one on paper. *Edit: I also drew this one a while ago, it's still not very new so...
All feed back is welcome though, even the bad stuff. I can't grow unless I know!

Start with the more technical aspects of drawing before you pinpoint yourself into a "style." Too often will artists claim that to themselves, which ends up being less aesthetically-pleasing and more of a hinderance. In terms of your drawings, they actually look pretty good! Both have a case of the heads being too large for their bodies, but this is easily fixable; the body, being about seven to eight heads tall, is four heads tall to the crotch. Your coloring on the second one is pretty solid. The folds on his shirt are a bit haphazard (and yeah, they're a bitch to draw). I'd recommend studying true anatomy, especially toward them finicky arms. Also, draw from life, as it will help you better grasp rendering your objects; the first one is screaming for a more realistic light source.

...Fuh, he does remind me of Lloyd from ToS. xD BEAST FANG.

Hmm, okay so make heads smaller, got it! And the folds of his shirt aren't right. *Nods head.*
I have never ever had art lessons of any kind so this is the very first time someone has told me what to fix on my characters (other then my sister).

I'll show one more recent pic, then my art gallery will come to a end.
I just drew it this morning and I don't have time to upload it right now so I'll do it later, and perhaps if no one post after me then I'll edit this post and add it here. That way you can see a new one and judge me on my current drawing style.
The second pic I drew was maybe, hmmmmmm almost a year old? And I looked at the date for my first one and it turned out to be drawn in 2007, so it is three years old (Maybe even four by now...)

Alright people keep your critiques coming in!

It's all good! I go to a visual arts school and I rarely get character help, just help with pushing values, bettering my composition, all that fun stuff in the kid's trick-or-treat bag (hurhur).

Well, if the first drawing was done in 2007, then the oldest it could possibly be is two years, unless I'm MISSING OUT ON SOME SORT OF TIME-SPACE CONSPIRACY. Good luck with the rest of your little art gallery! I hope I've been of some assistance.

Oh, haha thank you. and for my last post I should have said "Going on four years" Bleh... >.>

Anyways, I was going to upload another pic, one I did a few days ago. But as you can see I overloaded Photobucket and it died on me. Can't uploads nothing until I gets me bandwidth back. XD

So, my art is on hold until further notice. I have taken to heart though about the big heads and stubbly little arms. So, for all future drawings, they will have very long arms and tiny little heads. (Joking, joking. But my goal is to try and draw pictures more realistically.) I hope to achive this goal by sometime next year. ^_^

I excel best at coloring pictures, so I hope to show you what I mean with my next picture. And perhaps I'll give a link to my other gallery I have up.

Wow, I forgot about this topic. I stopped using photobucket. It's stupid. Instead I now use Flickr. So here is some of my recent art that I drew. The first two are concept art pictures that I drew for my newest super hero character. I later decided to turn her story into a role play site. I've been working on making their heads smaller but it's hard because I started off drawing in a anime style of drawing, so all of their heads are really big, arms are a bit short, and eyes take up a lot of space on their face. I have to try really hard to get the proportions right.

These next two pictures are concept art for some new fantasy medieval characters. I suppose they came out pretty good. In my last role play site I had a alchemist girl that was murdered by a monster. The first pic is her father in his younger years.
Image

And lastly a pic of a face that I drew. I drew a pic of a friend I used to know. I haven't seen her in a very long time so I drew it by memory. I think it would have came out a bit better if she had been sitting in front of me.

Image

Alright, I had said I would post up more pics but never got around to it. But now my art gallery is complete! :D

I spy dynamism! Very cool post, Light.

I applaud the improvement from your last update; it's evident in your color usage, which is more bold and vibrant than before, and in your figure structure, which, while still very much rooted in manga styling, has reached a greater level of understanding on your part. Glory's design is wicked--the scene you placed him in is even more so, although I'm confused by the outcome (did he just Captain Planet that car into the wall? Was his intent to save the kid or to scare the wits out of him? I jest, but hey, that mask almost looks villany!). Overall, good stuff! I know you say your gallery is complete, but I would love to see more in the future. :)

Woo, Someone replied!
Since you have requested it, I shall show more... some day.
I don't draw as much as I used to, I find I don't have the time to do it. I'll get around to it though and try to upload some more art. I agree, my style is still on the manga/anime style of drawing, I've been doing it for so long I find it hard to get out of that style. I've been drawing a lot of faces, like the last picture, to try and adopt a more realistic drawing style. But it's very hard to do it right.

And lol about Glory! Funniest thing I've read in days. The intent was to save the kid from the car. Originally I was just going to draw Glory doing the pose, but as I kept drawing I decided to do a full color picture and to add on to it. I threw the car in there at the last minute. Have you ever seen the video "Cool guys don't look at explosions"? Well, that came to mind when I was drawing it. XD
And the mask looks evil by mistake. I based it off of a real life venetian mask I came across, and decided to use it as a superhero's mask. Those things always look creepy, so I guess I couldn't help it coming out looking "Villany", lol.

Anyways, I just recently got a new idea to draw a smaller scale picture, but with the amount of detail in the face like the close up picture. You know like a full body drawing like the first Glory picture but with all of the facial detail like in the last pic.
I guess we'll see how that comes out...

Alright, thanks for the comments. I shall continue to try to progress my drawings!

Re: Some of my art! ^_^ ( )

Postby Lightcaster on Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:41 pm

I have been asked to not draw cartoon or manga style pictures several times over the years. So here it is...

As I said in my last post I wanted to try to do a full body picture, while still adding detail to the character's faces. I don't like drawing people in a relaxed standing pose, so if I draw them they have to be doing something. I think the best way to learn how to properly draw proportions is to mix it up by drawing your characters in different poses. So that was what my goal was: Keep the body proportions realistic, get realistic looking faces, and draw them in some type of pose.
Here is my first attempt:
(The scanner causes the color to fade, so the nose disappeared a bit. I tried to fix that problem with the next picture by shading it in deeper.)
Image

This is my second attempt:
Image

Alright, with the second picture I tried to do a self portrait of myself.
It doesn't look like me much...
I'll explain why. In real life I discovered my jaw line is square, but I am very young looking because I have a thin smooth face shape, making me almost pass for perhaps a 17 year old (even though I am almost 23 years old). I have had people ask me if my younger brother and I were twins, even though we have a six year gap between us.
In the above picture, attempting to draw a square jaw with a thin face made me look a bit older, and the facial hair didn't help. I don't know how to do it. I discovered I have a very complicated head... O_O
I guess it is close enough though...
All in all though I am happy with both pictures. I don't think they look too bad. I can see the difference with how much I've grown over the years (Or months. I think these pictures took a big leap since I drew the Glory picture up above).

Anyways, I'll try to do another portrait of myself, and maybe I'll have more luck next time in getting my face shape right.
My next major goal though, is animals. I don't draw nature or environments, so that is going to be my next drawing attempt. Let us now wait to see how it turns out...

Lightcaster's Art Gallery. ( )

Postby Lightcaster on Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:38 pm

Alright, my art project for nature is going to take a very long time. So I thought to just show some more art for fun. The below pictures were not made to be fancy, or artful, they were nothing more then fun ideas I saw in my head that I decided to put on paper. In other words, they are "free time" doodles...
The pictures were either drawn with the "50 count" crayola color pencils, or shaded in with normal No.2 pencils.
This is a large collection of work that I have done over the years from different stories that I have made. Most of the work is concept art for role plays or book ideas. I won't be posting art for a long time in this topic, so Enjoy!

Animals and nature is hard to do, so it is still on hold. Inspiration comes in very small waves, and if I don't act quickly it fades before I even start my project. Superheroes are still something that I am trying to bring back to their former Glory, so here is another pic of my hero "Glory".
The old picture up above was nothing but concept art, an idea that I was trying to develop into something real. Now that I am sure that this is how she looks, here is another picture with a bit more detail placed into it. I will most likely draw one more to add final touches. This picture was 100% hand drawn with no help from the computer. The only thing I edited about the picture was adding a bit of sharpness to it because the scanner blurred it. And as always, scanner slightly fades the color (but this time it isn't too bad... I guess...)
You can't see all the colors in the masks design but, close enough.

I literally just finished this like 30 mins ago, so it is so fresh that it's still piping hot!
Image

These are the Venetian masks that I found and used as reference. I layered them all on top of each other to create the one that I saw in my head, and after I saw how the mask looked in real life, I drew it on paper.

Re: Some of my art! ^_^ ( )

Alright... So here is some more art. Fantasy, anime, and Science fiction is the three things I love to write about and draw. It's my style, so I'm sticking with that. I just don't like drawing nature and animals so I have completely abandoned doing that. My older sister and I do a lot of computer drawn images where we take real life things, and make them look like our characters. I realized I haven't shown any of that on here, so here is some of my work (Check below). I use Paint shop pro because I don't have photoshop. Because paint shop pro isn't as good as photoshop, you can sometimes see where I past these together. Either way, I love these pics!
(Warning there are a lot of pics below!!!!!)

If you scroll up you will see one of my characters that I drew named Adorah, here is a real life version of her that I made using Gwyneth Paltrow as a base.
Image

Same thing, but one of Alastair (He isn't in this gallery, but if you check my RP characters he is in the list).
Image

His hair was really brown and he was wearing dark brown leather. I dyed his hair red, added scars near his mouth, put a hat on his head, and changed both his hat and clothing to red. I don't know who he is and I no longer have the original pic. Some people say it is Hayden Christensen from Star Wars, but I'm not sure because I couldn't find a pic of him that matched this one...
Image

Kynn Lightcaster. Yep, this is the character I named my account after. If you want to see some other pics I edited you can click his character bio in my RP character list.
Image

This is that hobbit from the Lord of the rings... I don't know which one, but this is another Kynn.
Image

This is Kynn. I used that guy from that live action Dragon ball movie.
Image

Shiloh, she is in my gallery up above. I used the actress Sarah Parker Kennedy as a base.
Image

Kynn's mom. I used... umm... that lady actress but I can't remember her name and I don't remember all the things I edited... I'm sure you can find the original pic on google.
Image

And last but not least, the Hydra Overshadow turbo bike!
This image will be used for my latest RP that I am currently making. It is going to be a fast paced Grand prix race. The first pic is the finished product, and all the pics below are the ones I used to build it. :)

It is made up of a giant jet engine, motorcycle parts, a rocket launcher, and some type of old rusty engine thing. If all goes as planned, the new RP will be up and running by the new year. :D
I made this pic because I needed a hover bike, but couldn't find one on google that looked the way I wanted it to. So I just made my own...
