The President of the United States sits in the Oval Office, not aware he is about to die. A foreign ambassador has just left from a highly sensitive meeting; and now it is almost midnight. President Carl Maynard is tired; he massages his temples and sips from cold coffee. No breeze blows in the White House; the bulletproof windows are securely shut. The air smells as though it has been recirculated one too many times.
An aide walks into the Oval Office and delivers a message from the Al-Jazeera network, a message intended for President Maynard's eyes only. As the aide exits the room, the President gets up and stretches, yawning loudly. He reads the message, raises his eyebrows, and carefully tosses it into the paper shredder. After Maynard is sure it is destroyed, he walks through the halls and out onto the patio, where he settles into a large armchair with a copy of Dante's Inferno.
Two Secret Service agents discreetly guard him from nearby, quietly chatting about the day's work. Nothing is out of the ordinary--until a single bullet whizzes through the air and buries itself in its target, Maynard's head. As the President slumps forward, blood dripping down onto his suit, the agents rush forwards shooting...
This roleplay is based off of a thriller novel I have written, entitled Starless Sky. It is not yet published, and the roleplay's plot only loosely follows the novel's.
A Secret Service agent and four FBI agents have been assigned to solve the case of the President's assassination. But they face several insurmountable obstacles, not the least of which is the fact that the President's three children, Brenton (16), Kimberly (22), and Soraya (14) are determined to find their father's killer first. Add to that the fact that the President had an unheard of approval rating of around 82%, and was just about to run for reelection...Then, the agents must face the fact that the fingerprints on the murder weapon belong to one of the world's most feared terrorists and most dangerous women...Treali Storm, the record-holder for longest occupant of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, and also, known to be a close, personal friend of Usama bin Ladin.
The agents face enormous pressure from Maynard's VP, now President, Abigail McKinley, a diehard conservative who wants to see the assassin die via lethal injection; Robert Edwards, the Director of the FBI; and the public in general. Add to that the ever-present media angle to the international frenzy. And the mysterious message from Al Jazeera that no one, not even the aide, had read...

Rules (not Roles with an O, Rules with a U)
1.) No god-moding. You're not God, so don't act like it.
2.) Each player can control only their own characters. Meaning I can't say your character goes somewhere, and likewise for you and my character.
3.) As this is realistic, keep events at least somewhat realistic. Nothing insane or insanely drastic. Reasonable. Of course, suspension of belief is totally allowed.
4.) People swear. Avoid it as much as possible, but very brief utterences of profane words are permitted. Words I consider profane (as this differs from person to person) are f***, s***, b****, and cunt. Bastard, whore, crap, and variations of dang, darn, are acceptable although not encouraged. Damn and hell are not considered swears in the proper context. Otherwise they are considered profane.
5.) Romance is encouraged, but keep it PG-13, which in my definition (see above) means no explicit descriptions of sex, whether brief or drawn out, whether "typical" or kinky, and no extended making out AND no descriptions of making out. Saying a character makes out with another is fine (as long as there is mutual consent). Kissing, embracing, and coddling are allowed.
6.) Use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation to the best of your ability. No chatspeak (unless you're writing what someone said in an IM) or useless abbreviations, with some obvious and practical exceptions: i.e. FBI, USA, etc. This is for clarifcation and simplicity--so these common abbreviations are accepted, however many others will not be. Test for to use or not to use an abbreviation? If four out of five people recognize it and correctly identify it, it's usable. By the way, if you have actually read these rules, please answer the last question of your signup with the word "fascination". If you want to use a difficult/long/higher order/obscure word, by all means go ahead, and spelling mistakes on words like idiosyncrancy and Hippocratic will be tolerated. But spelling mistakes like disapear and scool won't. And "u like ppl b/c..." is also not acceptable. Neither is shorthand, if you actually happen to know it (which is cool, but I can't read it). You can also use short phrases in foreign languages, if they are commonly known OR explained, i.e. Allahu Akbar, gun dan, Shalom, Buenos Dias, etc. (However, these words MUST be written with the English/Latin alphabet) Sorry if this one seems strict, but proper English is a must if you ever want to succeed anwhere in life.
7.) Last one. When you post, be not only literate (as described above), but please also, bare minimum of three paragraphs, 150 words. Recommended minimum: five paragraphs, 300 words. Maximum--there is no real maximum, just use common sense. No more than 2500 words, please, unless absolutely necessary.
