The year is nothing to care for, though those keeping count will say it's been 415 years since the coming of a Holy King. We find ourselves in a vast world, one rich in lands, in culture, in battle. Focusing on Sayn Isle, an island on the southwestern area of the map: unknown to most, it is a piece of Heaven carved by the angels, as the rumors say. Those who do know of it, they live a fine, peaceful life. From the harvest, to the smiths, all the way to the sorcerers and mages. Little did they know, their corner of the world, their home, would be stricken down by a cold, greedy king on a far continent to the west.
This Holy King calls forth arms with 'religious innovation' as an excuse. They're told to take ships, take gold and take lives if they must. Their intent is nothing short of merciless, and now, established at the shores of Sayn, the troops arrange, attempting to summon last minute troops. That, that is where the rest come in... Mercenaries: filthy, traitorous, backstabbing sellswords with no reason but money. Western land's Holy King orders they be hired and taken as more soldiers to colonize the land. Whatever their own purpose, their background, their beliefs, the promise of a big job makes most whimper in glorious awe. Here, their beginning will be written, what will you write?
- I thought this one wouldn't be necessary: but ready everyone's posts! It's in the IC that the entire story is made; what are you doing skipping it? How can you react if you don't know what's going on? Exactly, you can't. So, read the posts before yours and reply accordingly-- Confusion? Here's the OOC, go ahead and ask.
- The next addition to the previous rule set: NO SPEED POSTING. A few members have complained of those posting too quickly, which at the same time, is forcing me to draw the plot forward. This is a game for both rookies and more experienced roleplayers to enjoy, let's keep it that way. The post minimum will be kept at six sentences, but may be raised if the problem persists. What do I mean by no speed posting? Wait a few posts before going at it again, you'll be more detailed, have more to reply to and overall just heighten your quality.
Player A posts
Player B posts
*At this point, Player A is to wait for another poster.*
If you need to put up a conversation, or something where you'd interact more with a player, have it over PMs or IM and post it on the IC thread after telling us you have permission from the other player in the OOC.
- Above all, dedication. I don't expect you to pour your life into a roleplay, merely to remain loyal to it for its duration, which, as said before, will be well into more than one game.
- Next up is your posting: posts should be at least one every few days (if you can post daily however, do so) and must reach the bare limit of six sentences. Those having trouble meeting the post limit may send me a PM and I'll do what I can to help, so not knowing how to roleplay isn't an impediment.
- It's assumed you know etiquette - stay true to that assumption! Godmodding, Mary Sues, powerplayers, inactivity, text talk are all things that can and will ruin a good game, please avoid them as well as the others gone unmentioned.
- Swearing? As the rules say, as long as it isn't distasteful or excessively vulgar. Which, to my criteria means you may do so if you don't overdo it.
- More mature scenes may present themselves at a time (a band can only grow together so much without falling in love) so you should know by now those are taken to PMs.
- If you must leave the roleplay (hopefully it's only a temporary, as I've asked for dedication previously) please tell me via PM or post it in here.
- Check (and use) the OOC often, while the plot is clear, subplots may be discussed in here, as well as npcs and enemies.
- The rules are subject to change, and though major changes will be announced in this thread, I expect you to read them every once in a while.
I must note the entire world will not be used for this roleplay, but rather for the future ones, as such, details will be scarce. Feel free to elaborate on a part of a land during your skeleton (the village, a town, maybe an island here or there.) Focus for now will be placed on the western lands and Sayn Isle, moreso on the latter.
Mev'Tok (pronounced mehv-tak): a merchant continent on the east. Template climate and woods make most of the place, rumored to exist on a far southern side is a huge tree. Magical, it houses the entire elven race within it, so they say.
Silia: cold, grand and a beauty to behold. Despite the frostbite you'll get from visiting, the icelands at the north are quite the thing: unique weaponry, technological innovations and experimental fighting styles. Deep within caverns, forbidden to the people, are said to be dwarves.
Nath: the kingdom who's ordered the assault. Ruthless, though it has a history of excelling military leaders. It is the biggest of the four known continents, housing a monopoly on soldiers. It's a frequent place for mercenaries, some even settle down here. The people's whispers speak of orcs' wandering on ocassion.
Rweng: warm, sunny, humid; Rweng is pretty much a modern day suite turned outdoorsy and made a whole continent. Those here live pleasent lives, taking little interest in outside affairs and more in their own: magic. From a bishop's faith healing to a witch's cursing. It's been said such magical concentration attracts angry giants...
Not really, these are just questions that may arise before the beginning of the roleplay, or even before making your sheet.
- So what do we do here?
You're part of the mercenaries hired by Nath's Holy King. The mission is to colonize Sayn Isle, though in your case, it'll just be ransacking and taking down authorities.
- What's a Holy King?
The maximum authority, a single one resides in each continent at the time.
- How's the technology?
This is mostly a fantasy roleplay. There are ships, pulley systems but nothing that runs on steam or fuel. Of course, if something like this is required, there will likely be a magical version of the item.
- And the demography?
Think... 100,000 people on the smaller continents or so, though they're well connected. The largest would likely hold around half a million. As for races, if you hadn't noticed I made it somewhat like earth in that sense:
Mev'Tok would be Asia, so lighter body frames and long blades. No ninjas, mind you.
Silia is Europe and a portion of Asia, brown hair, blue eyes are all the norm here.
Nath would be more like America, with a wide population and varying races.
Rweng is the equivalent of south Africa and south America, so darker skin tones and a simple lifestyle for most.
Note these are comparisons! This isn't earth!
- You hinted at fantasy
Not for now, sorry. I'll only allow humans during the prologue.
- What should I do in the team?
Anything you like! You don't even have to use a fighter! Maybe you're a knight of Nath as an official soldier, or a thief coming from Mev'Tok to acquire riches. Heck, maybe you're a merchant and don't know anything outside of your bartering and knife.
- How's magic work here?
Spells are cast by either incantation, a staff/wand movement or hand movement. The type of magic will vary, but it's not the whole 'Name, ara, aga' thing Final Fantasy has going on. Bishops don't just heal, they may use holy elemental attacks and summon familiars. The consensus is you may have both offensive and passive magic, but keep a theme to it; from water to darker, more evil spells.
- Can I play someone fighting against the mercenaries?
I'm afraid not, you may however, use npcs. I'll take care of most of the army and the opposing troops. Note however, you may suggest a fight (a subplot, or just let us know your ideas) in this very thread.
