summer time

It is currently around noon on Saturday, the first of July. Late the previous night both families arrived at the Williams' summer home where they will be spending the summer. While the two families do live close to each other on a regular basis, they will now be spending two months together, without there parents. However, the four adults knew better than to leave a bunch of teenagers home alone and have hired a young woman and her partner to watch over the home and children while they are away. Knowing that this would spark outrage from many of their older children, the parents agreed to not inform the kids. At this point, everyone still believes that they will have uncontrollable freedom for the summer.

Despite the fact that the late afternoon sunshine was still sparkling high in it's place amongst the clouds, the feline form that was Bridget Williams lay sprawled out on one of the large leather sofas in the living room. Her still pyjama clad body hadn't moved since she'd risen from bed earlier that morning, not for food, not to change the channel, not for anything. Snuggled in her lap was her beloved, yet dopey Calvin and she'd be damned before she disturbed his cat-nap. Really, it was almost strange how much of an attachment the girl developed to her pets but nobody had ever really questioned it and so both animal and girl carried on, seemingly, without a care in the world.

There was no mistaking that at present, B was enjoying the silence of the house but she reckoned, with a smirk, that it was nothing more than the calm before the storm. The nights ahead were to commence in a number of hours that she could easily count on her fingers, and she knew, as well as everybody else did that it was going to be wild. There was no other way to describe it, really. Part of her wondered distantly why their parents had put so much trust within the group of teenagers, but she didn't dwell too much on it as she attempted, before failing, to reach for the remote that lay on the rug just out of her reach.

Giving a disgruntled shift in body weight, Calvin slipped from the girls lap as the movement disturbed him, and giving a half-hearted sigh, B finally moved herself with a stretch, somewhat miffed that today's efforts to keep still had for the most part, been for nothing. However, with a new found freedom now awaiting her grasp, the blonde took advantage of the moment to shuffle her way into the kitchen to grab some food that would at least semi-prepare her insides for the waterfall of booze that would be consumed later on in the evening. Even the fridge forewarned her as the bottles placed inside of the door gave a satisfied clink when the movement rocked them gently to and fro. Needless to say that the teenagers were prepared, if nothing else.

Two minutes and two slices of toast later though, Bridget had popped herself up on the kitchen counter, legs crossed and blonde hair mussed as she waited around to see who'd be the first to break the silence.

It's the same thing over and over again. Every day, more pain, more hurt, more silence....

As Holly Wilson stared at herself in the full length mirror that hung on the wall in her bedroom, these words flitted through her mind, her body still. It was always the same, every time she caught a glimpse of herself, those words of self-loathing piercing her mind with an insane force. It wasn't as if she couldn't think of herself in any other light anyway, she was all bad in her eyes; she was the child that just missed that A grade, the child that just didn't get that perfect boyfriend, the one that just wasn't pretty enough. She was the most pointless one in the family, and she couldn't see anything else there. A small sigh emitted her lips, her eyes dropping to the floor, looking away from that horrible person in the mirror. She gently sunk to the ground, her legs being crossed in front of her when she was seated. The music playing along in the background helped her drop into the realm of meditation, Yiruma's Kiss The Rain playing first, closely followed by her second favourite, River Flows In You.

Slowly breathing in, the brunette though about how she was small in comparison to her siblings, not coming up to their standards by a long shot in her parents eyes. But then as she breathed out, she imagined herself growing, becoming equal with her siblings for the first time, a genuine smile on her face, not a fake one hiding all the pain inside. This was the one time that Holly felt almost good with herself, happy, when she was sitting alone in her room meditating. It cleaned her of all of the negative thoughts of herself for a while, but as soon as she finished, she knew that they would return just as heavily. After a few more minutes of just sitting there, breathing in and out softly, the brunette opened her eyes, coming back to her world of reality.

She was usually up before everybody; the quiet sounds of the morning helping to relax her. There was just something so peaceful about early morning sunrises that she just couldn't quite put her finger on. When she had had to share a room with B, of course the getting up early had caused a little bit of tension. But the two sisters had fought through it. Sometimes, Holly missed sharing a room with her twin - they enjoyed being together. That was them. But, it did make it harder for her to hide her true feelings about herself, so the separate rooms really were a God send. That didn't mean that their rooms weren't next to each other though, in the Fleur De Lys.

Holly exhaled calmly once more, before standing up. She straightened her jumper quickly, pulling it down over her tights, before opening her bedroom door. Her insecurities made her so self concious about her looks - only a certain number of people had seen her in PJ's, with messy hair and no make-up. Bridge and her Mum. On her feet were red fluffy socks, to stop her feet getting cold through the tights and situated on her head was a garland of pink flowers; a bargain find from a thrift store.

"Good morning, B." She beamed brightly as she entered the kitchen, sliding her way over to the fridge and pouring a glass of orange juice, as well as one for her twin. "You okay?"

His body was shaking, his breath short and his skin covered in sweat as he finally escaped the nightmare that had engulfed his mind for what had seemed like days. James knew that he had not had a good dream, but the second he awoke he couldn't remember a single detail on what had gone on in the nightmare. It was a frequent occurrence for him to have nightmares after eating junk after midnight the previous night, but that had never stopped him and still wouldn't after this one. Fingers shook out his head of blonde hair as he slunk out of bed and into his bathroom. After shedding his boxers, he slipped into the steaming shower relieving him from any stress that his emotions had caused him throughout the night.

Honestly, James was in a great mood. His parents had left to go away for the summer and the Edwards' were spending the next two months with them at Fleur de Lys. Most summers were good ones for him, since he always did as he pleased but this one there would be no one to tell him that he needed to get his life on track, that he was embarrassing the family name or leading his younger siblings down the wrong path. There would be house parties, beach parties, clubbing and lots and lots of hookups. He could surf all day, eat as much fast food as he pleased and then finish the day off with shots.

After showering, he changed into a pair of red board shorts, a white Quick Silver t-shirt, and his usual Red Bull hat before jogging downstairs. Bridget and Holly were already awake, which didn't surprise him since Holly was always awake and the twins were so similar.

"Who else is pumped as hell for this summer?" he said with a grin as he entered the kitchen, nonchalantly grabbing the last bit of toast on B's plate and quickly devouring it. "I always said you make good toast, B. So good that you should make me one," he said, mouth half filled with the food as he then moved over to Holly, washing down the bread with some of her orange juice. "You guys must be happy that you get to spend the summer with sexy me. Don't worry - I'll try to get you some invites to the parties I go to," he added as he took a seat at the table. He enjoyed being the arrogant bastard that he was, but after nineteen years of it, his family was fairly used to his sarcastic antics, although that isn't to say that they still didn't resent him for it.

A few moments of sheet's moving and twisting in the large queen bed could only signal that Everett was slowly but surely waking up to meet the day. A ray of bright sunlight seemed to shoot out from a small open hole that the beige curtains in front of the window didn't ever manage to cover. The ray descended directly upon a pair of pink painted toes, and Everett could only rise up from his sleeping position, and cock his head as he stared at the ten toes just staring back at him.

He gently lifted the covers next to him, only to see a semi clothed blonde who was drooling rather heavily on the pillow next to Ev's. "Hey." He mumbled softly, both wanting to wake up the drooling girl and attempting to be some what of a gentleman. His finger prodded her makeup stained cheek and she opened her eyes, baby blue and foggy that blinked several times before she opened her mouth to speak. "Hmm...hey baby." Everett immediately recoiled as soon as the word rolled off her sleepy tongue, moving an inch away from her. "Well, it's morning so I think it's time for someone to grab a cab." As the nineteen year old searched for his pants, all the while getting off the bed and avoiding eye-contact with the girl he had banged, he felt an arm grab his and fingers wrap around his wrist. "Wait, I thought we could go get coffee or something? Ma-" Everett cleared his throat, interrupting her before she could say anything else. " I don't do dates. One night stands, yes. Dates, and going out is a sure negative. There's twenty- bucks on the table for a cab hun. " The girl's face immediately seemed to scrunch together, and Everett had a feeling she was about to cry, so for the sake of keeping any more fluids off the pillows and bed, he leaned forward and kissed the top of her forehead before smiling and grabbing his pants from the floor, leaving his t-shirt off so he wouldn't have to spend too much time in the room.

The smell of toast and several other morning delicacies made Everett licked his lips as he wandered over towards the kitchen, his mind now tottally over the girl from earlier and now completely focused on food and talking to his family and everyone else. As soon as he step foot into the kitchen, he spotted Holly, then Bridget, and finally James as they all chattered together. "What? No toast for me? " Everett asked, a small comical pout forming on his face as he glanced at Bridget's clean plate. He walked over towards the fridge and pulled out a bottle of sparkling water before sitting down on one of the many chairs around the kitchen.

"You guys must be happy that you get to spend the summer with sexy me. Don't worry - I'll try to get you some invites to the parties I go to," Everett couldn't help but smirk as he took of the cap to his water , still looking at James. " Oh thank you for thinking of the little people James. You're so kind."

Unlike her siblings, Mona was a regular sleeper, she didn't rise early, nor did she sleep late. Now, she'd been awake for more than an hour, had slid right out of bed and blared her music throughout the room. Since she was located at the farthest end of the house where most of the guest rooms were, Mona could resort to her own wake-up methods, which were far louder and more energetic than her sisters'. Being a bit of a techno-junkie, Mona immediately signed on to her Mac, surfing the web before she decided to kick the summer in full spring and create an event on Facebook. Let's begin this summer the right way. The girl thought, as she clicked through her whole friends list, inviting all the right people to the Party that will start the string of parties this summer. A half hour later, Mona finally slithered out of her room and made her way through the winding hallways of the house, finally emerging in the kitchen to join the four.

"Morning," she smirked to her siblings and Everett, before weaving her way towards the fridge and whipping it open. Thankfully, a few things had flown out from the sheer force of her opening the double-doored fridge, and next thing you know, Mona was ass up and head down, bent at her waist picking up the runaways. Why? Well, of course, Everett was in the room, that's why. You gotta cheer for the subtle way the girl operates, and for the generous rump that her parents gifted her.

After getting herself a lonely stub of string cheese, closing the fridge and, hopefully, teasing Everett, Mona leaned against the counter and pulled tiny strings of the cheese with her teeth. " Guys, you gotta thank me--" she spoke as she chewed, "--tonight is gonna be amazing, invite you who want, because there's no turning back. This is gonna happen, go check your facebooks, " she grinned as she spoke, watching her own nails take apart the cheese string by string, and lifting it to her mouth. This kind of food was a game to her, usually, she refused breakfast.

As Holly breezed into the kitchen, Bridget tracked her with pale as ice eyes, her brow slightly furrowed with just a hint of the true concern she felt. The blonde knew, almost better than anyone, the internal beating that her twin put herself through daily but she also knew Holly and that nothing she could ever say would completely eradicate the true extent of the negativity she felt. So with nothing more than a soft, helpless sigh, B mumbled a 'morning' around one of her slices of toast and gave a nod in response to the question. Once she'd finished she reached for her glass of OJ with a smile and returned the query. "Are you?"

Next it was James who entered the kitchen, his greeting ensuing an eye roll and a smirk from B who attempted to half-gently kick his shoulder as he stole her last piece of toast. "Well someone has to feed you," she commented as she hopped from her perch to pop in a couple of other slices, missing Everett's entrance until she'd turned to face the others again. "You're not smart enough to do it yourself."

With a sly smile shot in her brother's direction just to reinforce the joke though, at the next toast request, B jutted her thumb towards the toaster and then glanced briefly at Everett, her expression changing to somewhat amused as she took in his disappointed pout. She'd forgotten making food at prime time probably hadn't been the smartest move if she'd wanted any for herself but she didn't mind in that feeding the family was kind of satisfying. To Holly though, she mock whispered a "Save me from the toast fiends," as she reached to butter the other slices of cooked bread with a half-smile, listening to the banter that commenced between the two boys. Needless to say that James never surprised her with the stuff that he came out with and she found it amusing more than anything, especially with the added reactions of some of the others in the room.

"I'm in awe of your kindness James," Bridget teased, her eyes widened in mock appreciation as she added to Everett's reply before shooting another 'good morning' to Mona and then dealing out toast to whoever it was that wanted some. In the next moment as her sister's show began though, the blonde could only watch with a blank expression, part of her being somewhat entertained by the girl's subtlety, the rest of her concerned for the whole situation. See, B wasn't really the kind of girl to hook up with someone over summer, nor was she a relationship kind of person because both situations screamed out hurt to her, so she could kind of understand but she couldn't. After what had happened to her before she preferred to stay away from all of it. In saying that though, neither was she the kind to interfere so quietly took up her place again on the counter, apparently as laid back as ever, one eye brow raised as Mona introduced thoughts of what tonight would really offer.

Caylee was never an early riser. She hated having to wake up at a certain time, and disliked eating breakfast as it just seemed like unnecessary weight gain, so it was normal for her to sleep in late, especially now that it was summer. A tired groan was muffled into her pillow as she slowly allowed sunlight to pierce her eyes. After a few minutes of adjusting, she was able to pull herself out of bed and get ready for the day. Even though they had only arrived at the home a day ago, Caylee's bedroom was already a mess, and it took her a good few minutes to sort through the piles of clothes that she had thrown onto the floor the night before after giving up on trying to sort everything into her closets and dressers in the tired state.

A white Ralph Lauren bikini and light blue Free People sun dress were her final clothing picks, and she slipped them on before brushing her blonde locks up into a high ponytail. By this point, some of her morning frustration had dissolved and after checking her Facebook updates on her Blackberry, things were even better. She had received the update from Mona about a party they'd be throwing tonight and Caylee was quick to forward it to nearly her entire contacts list. She loved parties, and this was going to be ten times better considering that she wouldn't have to sneak home and try to hide her drunken state from her parents, because they weren't here. In fact, they wouldn't be back for another two months.

As she walked downstairs, she sported a smile and entered the kitchen in good spirits, like usual. "I'm awake," she stated happily to the occupants of the kitchen, as if it weren't obvious. "I saw that like thing on Facebook that we're like having a party. Did you invite any hot guys?" she asked, her eyes flashing towards Mona before she moved to the fridge and poured herself a glass of water.

Everett, Mona and Caylee soon filed into the kitchen, all receiving a nod of a greeting from James as he snacked on the toast in front of him. "No problem," James replied to them with a smirk, after they sarcastically thanked him for his invite offer. He glanced at the clock, mentally noting that their parents were already in the air and soon probably landing wherever the hell they were going. The details of the trip didn't concern him, and really all that he cared about was that they'd be gone until September and wherever they were going had limited cellphone service. It really was as close to freedom as they could get, and when Mona mentioned something about Facebook he pulled out his phone and checked, seeing what she meant about the party.

"Sick," he said with a smile as he slipped the black device back into the pocket of his shorts and adjusted his hat. "We're gonna need to go an' get beer and shit. I doubt that they'd be stupid enough to leave any alcohol here." He paused, looking around for a second before he flashed another wide grin. "Everett, we're gonna kick ass tonight in beer pong. I'm going all out tonight. We gotta start off the summer right..."

His voice trailed off as his eyes searched for something out the window. It was still only noon, meaning that they had a good few hours probably until the party started and James wanted to get his first surf of the summer in. "I'm gonna head down to the beach for a little," he decided.
