The Awakening of the Song Maidens


The introduction: Year 1381 of the current era. The world is divided by kingdoms, republics, independent cities and empires. Within these, we find small mountain towns, important merchant cities, port cities, large capitals, and many other places. This is the land of Woarel. Magic exists in this world. However, only really skillful magicians have really mastered its use, and they live isolated. However, it has been decades since a new way of magic was discovered. Songs. In the past, it was proved that human voice was able to cast magic of diferent sorts by singing; from healing wounds, to sending powerful waves of energy, nearly everything can be achieved by singing. But the main skill is that of altering the human mind. This is the reason that big armies have the songstresses in battle, using their chants to infuse bravery to their soldiers, as well as trying to bring fear to the enemy. Up to now, very few males have achieved the necessary voice level to become part of the select group of "those who sing to the land", as they are called by some. Due to the specific characteristics of the female voice, it turns to be easier for them to be able to cast the hidden powers. Since then, many academies have been created (called Akademiyi -Akademiye in plural), to be able to train the so-called "soldiers of the future". Inhabited by many, this land doesn't escape its own problems, and only a century after the Sixty-Year-War, the land is suddenly found at a moment where tension arises, and although the different countries that exist are trying to avoid war at all costs, it's something that many see as unavoidable. A first showing of what could happen in the future was when the Sixty-Year-War was about to be reenacted, by the same actors, a few years ago, when a Wissean Patrol and a small group of soldiers from Jowav entered into battle. Tension arised because Jowav would say that Wisse started the attack, whereas Wisse mantained this was false. The truth was never known, and they made a pact, trying to forget and forgive, because, even with this conflict, both countries were trying hard to improve their relationship. However, recently, the empires are being the biggest threat of war.


The different places:

Kingdom of Sobaya: This kingdom is a peaceful place. In the middle of the desert, a city is founded, surrounding a huge oasis. They haven't been involved in a war for around 250 years. They have a small Akademiyi, specialized in water-based songs. Their current leader is interested in opening the city to the other countries, improving the trade and the diplomatic relationships.

Nowadays, there is a heir to the throne.
The merchant guild is one of the most powerful groups in the kingdom.
Their diplomats are skilled and devoted to the kingdom.
Capital city is Darganav.


Kingdom of Wisse: One of the kingdoms who was involved in the Sixty-Year-War. To the north of the land, their classic landscape is that of a snowy forest, or mountain. Their Akademiye (there are 2 of them) are specialized in fire-based songs. Their leader wants to restore the relationship with Jowav, their enemy during the Sixty-Year-War. Wisse used to be very rich, but after the war, the kingdom has lost its glory.

Nowadays there is a heir to the throne.
The Diplomats used to be as good as Sobaya's, but lately they're struggling to make advances with Jowav.
A unique job exists within Wisse, and it's that of the water-seller, people who pick snow and turn it into water, to sell it.
Capital city is Fliame.


Kingdom of Jowav: Their landscapes consist of very cold barren earth, without many place to grow any vegetables, meaning the cities are scattered through the kingdom. Sharing the northern part of the land with Wisse, a rivalry between the two countries' kings led to a massacre during the Sixty-Year-War, a century ago. Jowav had always been under the shadow of Wisse, and a century ago, the tension eventually led to a war with them. They are now even poorer than Wisse. They don't have any Akademiyi, so they send their potential songstresses abroad. Their leader is trying slowly to improve the kingdom's economy and save it from being abducted, or even attacked, while not trusting Wisse very much.

(King Ceitan VIII - Deceased) - Now ruled by General Caspian, in the meantime, while the conflict goes on.
Nowadays there is not a heir to the throne.
Their generals are between the fiercest of Woarel, due to the fact they have to deal with low resources.
Their songstresses are trained mainly in Wisse, due to vicinity.
Capital city is Lanagh.


Kingdom of Trianea: A kingdom located on the west coast, consisting of green places with big forests, mountains, and a shore, where several port cities are. Trianea is well-known for their very different geography, meaning they have sea, rivers, mountains, and forests. It's nor particularly cold or hot. They have one of the biggest Akademiyi in all the land, specialized in life-based songs that are able to heal. It is said to be one of the toughest Akademiyi, requiring more level to be able to unveil the powers. King of Trianea is a calm wise man who is trying his best to avoid war, without setting his goals too high.

Nowadays there is a heir to the throne.
Trianea is devoted to the peace, and has their Akademiyi with a high reputation.
Traditional jobs such as smiths and carpenters are highly-reputated, as well.
The port city of Aneastor is one of the most important cities, and it's so near the capital that it's been suggested they could merge, soon.
Capital city is Rolad'n.


Republic of Azure: A totally neutral land. Azure has avoided problems for as long as everyone can remember. They proclaim their system is, by far, the best governing system in all the land. They have no enemies nor allies, so nearly everyone is welcome inside the lands of the Republic. It is located in an island in front of Trianean shores, and its particularity is that their capital is completely built over the sea, with many bridges crossing the water and using watter channels as a sort of streets. They have the biggest Akademiyi in all the land, where light-holy-based songs are taught. It is, by far, the toughest of the lot, and they require a huge level to even pass their tests. The council in Azure works to prevent problems in the city, and if problems were to come, avoid the Republic being involved.

The former royal family disappeared after willingly stopping reigning. Who their descendants are is unknown.
Azure is a mysterious land, and whereas their citizens travel around the world, it is hard to meet someone who has actually been there. Specially Areza, which is rumored to be the most beautiful city in the land.
Jewellers, painters, and writters of Azure are well-known.
Capital city is Areza


Merchant City of Loein: A city that controls nearly all the trade in the land. Strategically located to the middle of the whole land, they have easy access to every place. It is also neutral, although it was once raided by the Yowlen Empire, many decades ago. It's a rocky place with many roads that lead to the different places. Those roads were built by their workers. They have a merchant guild leader as the leader of the city, and he only wants money income to increase, to build the legend of the "Golden City of Loein".

Ruled by Crell Genaim, leader of the Loein Merchant Guild.
It is said that he will choose the heir to his position, but it has not been said whether it would be a single person, or a group.
A very crowded city, always full of people of many places.
Loein is very rich, thanks to the merchants.
The center of the city is the main place to buy and sell stuff.


Grenaian Empire (Empire of Grenaia): By far the most belligerent place in the whole land. To the south, and with their tropical landscape, it is only hiding the truth of their leader's intentions to take over the whole continent. Palm trees and turquoise waters are a big contrast with their dark huge cities, place for mercenaries and such people. They have the dark-based-songs Akademiyi.

Nowadays, there is a heir to the empire.
Many jobs are done in Grenaia, obviously, but mercenaries, assassins, and thieves are all over the place.
The Assassin guild is said to be one of the most dangerous groups in Woarel.
Capital city is Mapeliard. (named after the Emperor)


Yowlen Empire (Empire of Yowle): A newly-created Empire, with a leader who wants to expand his frontiers. Neighbour of Grenaia, they want to avoid problems with the other Empire, and try to take over Jowav by negotiating with them. Dark water shores with rocky places and big mountains, it is very much the opposite to Trianea, while their approach as an Empire is that of trying to avoid war. Their Akademiyi is based in earth songs.

Ruled by Emperor Yahehay (real name is Kahen)
Nowadays, there is not a heir to the empire.
It is rumored that the emperor is planning on transforming the empire into a Kingdom, thus giving the throne to his son, although the Queen is pressing the emperor to turn Yowle into a Republic, such as Azure.
Farmers and shepherds have the will to succeed, and so they are better than in many other places.
Capital city is Yahehay. (the Emperor took the name from the city)


Independent City of Veton: A city founded around their Akademiyi, teaching wind-based songs. Their site is not within any kingdom or empire, being then an easy target for possible expansions. Their landscape is pretty much a plain, where the city is sitting. They have a leader called "Commander", who simply wants to have a better situation for Veton. They might become allies of whoever offered this.

Ruled by the Commander, Haf Lewsan.
The townspeople chose their Commander, but he will choose the next one.
Not really a crowded place, but it is common that people stop there, while travelling.
The city is full of Pub's and Inn's.
The name came after its first Mayor, centuries ago.


Holy City of Moncray: A city founded by a religious group trying to gain followers. The city is located near Veton, but has been able to reach a pact with each and every Kingdom and Empire, so they cannot attack the city, which would remain not only neutral, but "untouchable". Their landscape is mainly the same as Veton. However, a huge river crosses the city, so mills are everywhere. Their leader is the leader of the religious faction in the city. They're not interested in wars.

Nearly everyone who lives there follows their religion, but many people chose to leave here because of the security it gives.
Really crowded place, but the city is also huge.
They have nearly anything, from merchants to assassins, having jewellers and smiths, and many other jobs.
Surprisingly, any kind of magic is forbidden inside the city, meaning that any known mage can not enter. However, songstresses are not allowed to enter, as well, since it is considered that their job is blasphemy.



The Plot: Since tension is common thing in Woarel, everyone fears a war is about to begin. For this reason, all the kingdoms and empires are gathering troops, and recruiting mercenaries. The vast majority of the mages remain neutral, although there are a few who are joining some of the parties. As for the songstresses, they are being added to the armies, recently. However, no matter how dangerous this times seem to be, everyone tries to avoid thinking of it, and going on with their lives. At the Akademiye, everyone knows they're playing an important role in the upcoming conflicts. Conflicts, some say, that will bring an end to all the battles. Nobody knows what future has to give, but one thing remains sure. Very hard times are to come, perhaps even before, and after, the war.
Zeyia, a young songstress from Azera, capital of Azure, travels to Trianea, to attend the Akademiyi there, and is worried, at first, as to who will her companions be, and if they're going to be nice with her. The story starts when Zeyia walks down the ship that was taking her to the Kingdom of Trianea...to find a port city, bustling with people far more than she had imagined.


Trianea Akademiyi classes:

The singing classes' meaning is obvious. People practicing to sing.

Voice classes are mainly to gain control over one self's voice, through exercices like mantaining the voice in a note for as long as possible. Mainly voice control, rather than singing. People work in tone, pitch, consistency, etc.

Theoretical classes are, of course, "how to" sing well, and specially, how to sing the life based songs.

Bravery classes have the goal of preparing the songstresses mentally for any kind of conflict, to avoid them running away from the battlefield, abandoning the soldiers.

Psicological classes are similar to bravery, but they also help with daily things, trying to help the songstresses to cope with stress, as well as some small parts of the course being directed to their basic abilities like bringing fear to the enemy, etc.

Purity classes are somewhat the only "stupid" course in the Akademiyi. It's actually a course on "how to behave well". How to eat politely, how to be with the nobility, how to be a nice girl (or boy, when there is any of them). How not to do some kind of things with the opposite (or not opposite, depending on the case) gender. You know, the kind of class that actually wants to turn the girls TOO pure. Many people think this should be removed, because it's actually not allowing freedom within the songstresses, specially on the love side of life.

Finally the last of the classes, music writting, is optional, but it allows students to try their hand at writting songs. When written for an specific voice, songs can draw the real power of the person. However, it has been proved to be quite difficult.





NOTES: Even though each Akademiyi has its own special song-type, they all teach the braver and fear tactics, being those the most important basics of any songstress. This is based in a fantasy-pseudo-medieval-world.

Colors of the Akademiyi tunic's trimmings:

Sobaya - Blue
Wisse - Red
Trianea - Green
Azure - No trimmings, just a black line
Grenaia - Their tunics are completely black
Yowlen - Brown
Veton - Yellow

Even if there are not most males who can sing, Akademiye have male teachers, who know the theory and can teach it. But only females teach practical classes.

Clothes: She wears the attire of a songstress trainee, consisting of a long tunic with baggy sleeves, tight at the top and loose at the bottom, so it looks like a regular dress. Some wear a litle hat but it's not compulsory and Zeyia doesn't like it, so she does not wear it. The dress is always white, and has some trimmings (and so does the hat). Depending on the Akademiyi, the color of these trimmings change.
Appearance: She looks, actually, like a regular girl. She is considered quite beautiful.

Education: Studied at the Azure Akademiyi before going to Trianea, where she would enter the Akademiyi as well.
Born: Capital of Azure, named Areza
Now lives: Trianea Akademiyi
Lives with: Everyone studying there.
Relationship status: Single, looking.

Occupation: Trainee
Skills: Knows how to use a sword, good singer.
Hobbies: Reading, contemplating the world, trying to learn new songs.

Serious problems: Sometimes a bit innocent, not that many problems...yet
Personality: Kind, gentle, sometimes innocent, good person, cares for her friends, sort of shy. Passionate and fights for her beliefs.
Background: She lives a normal life as a trainee, so she has nothing particular to explain.
Bio: Zeyia has had a normal life as a young girl. She had always lived in Areza, and as soon as being 12, she joined the Akademiyi in Azure. She graduated there years before than what is supposed, and decided to make her way to Trianea, to be able to learn the ways of their songs. She arrived there, praised by everyone in Azure, and even with a recommendation letter.
Other: She always wears a necklace with a small green crystal. She says she loves the reflections of the sunlight on it. She also says it inspires her.

The closer he gets to people the more he'll talk with them, but people tend to shy away from him, assuming he won't talk to them to begin with. Under his quiet exterior he's polite, fun, and caring.
Background: He works with his father as a Carpenter but truly wishes to become a Solider. His Mother passed away 2 years ago, and had been a songstress. This is part of what peeked his interest in them. Other than that, his background isn't really out of the ordinary.
Bio: He's always been a smart person, and absolutely loves to learn new things. He was born and raised in Trianea by his Mother and Father. His Mother passed away when he was 15, and this made his interest in songstresses more prominent. When he was young he began learning to fight and has always loved it. His obsession with learning, and passion for fighting have lead to his dream to become a solider.
Other: The bag he is always carrying with him carries many things, but there is one particular item that never leaves the bag, and that is a journal. The bag and journal belonged to his mother, he started writing in the journal where she left off.

Clothes: A Gold over Iron plate armor, covering his chest, legs and back. Heavy and thick, it has been known to stand up to brutal attacks, and is littered with scratches and marks of battle, each with it's own story.
Appearance: Tall, straight-backed, close cut hair, the armor covering up most of his body and his head the only thing visible. I can't think of much more to put in this.

Education: Very well educated in the ways of battle and strategy, he ha originally shown great interest in the classic game of Strategen, where two armies are pitted against each other, and the player moves different pieces and attempts to wipe the other army out, or destroy their camp. After showing great skill with strategy, he was sent off to school. But as he made it halfway through school, his father died by the hands of Wisse bandits, which made him feel cheated and angry. he finished school with a great score, and was made a general within a year of his enlisting. He'd been a general of The Militia of The Peoples of Jowav for seven years, but has not tasted battle yet.

Background: He has a hate for the Wisse Kingdom, due to the fact that one of them, a bandit, sent his father back home on a death cart. He was eager to get out of school and into the fight, but he couldn't exact his vengence without a reason to attack the Wisse Kingdom. After that, his life turned into a steady rhythm, patrolling the borders, checking that Wissian armies weren't on approach, and playing Strategen with his buddies.

Everything's great, except a small thing. The Sixty-year-War ended a century ago...this means it ended 100 years ago, approximately, which makes it impossible for Julius to have any relationship with it... but as for the other things, looking great!

Nicknamed slit because it is believed after a beating he slit his father's throat (his dad actually died in a drunken fight). After his father's death his mother soon took ill, leaving him to take care of the farm by himself, which collapsed months later when his mom died leaving the land to a family friend, who kicked Adrian off the farm. After walking around the farms looking for a place to stay Adrian went into the forest, finding the vegetation and the calm noises pleasing, he made a life there.

Personality: In the barest of essentials, Almaz is more like an adorable kitten sitting beside a fearsome cursed blade: you would be more afraid of how he could hurt himself with that blade by accident rather than the possibility of being hurt by him. To aid him in his quest to become the greatest Warrior King in all of the world, Almaz knows absolutely EVERYTHING about every hero that walked the land of Woarel. Perhaps this was because of the world simply abandoning 'wishful' literature that depicted 'lies found in fairy tales' was how he got his hands on almost every Saga, Epic and Tale of heroes. Like any other Fanboy (Again, he could be a crazy otaku), he will unquestionably rise to the defense of any Hero he knows of when their courage/deed/existence is disputed. He will argue with passion, so be careful.

Aside from this, Almaz is but a gentle young man: he could never raise his blade to kill any living thing. Having deep respect for the value of Life, Almaz rarely engages with the intent to kill, let alone with the thought of killing someone/thing out of self-defense. His lack of courage, combined with his desire for non-violent resolution makes him the perfect holder of the 'Lame hero' status. Could this change? Only time can tell...
Background: Hailing from the somewhat powerful Armadin Family, Almaz is the firstborn son that would inherit over 400 acres of Farm land in the Prester Plains. Siding very strongly with the Grenaian empire and Darwinian values, the fickle parents he lived with expected the absolute best out of Almaz. No wonder they nearly went insane when he turned down their offer for a formal education to become an Adventurer. Sad to say, they acted as if nothing happened the day he ran away .
Bio: Everyone wants to become a Hero. But Almaz just wants to be a hero more than anyone else. Spending his days locked up in the Library when he was but a young child, Almaz deeply admired the Knight whom roamed desolate lands, slaying demons and evils alike with the swing of his blade. At age 13, he knew every hero that walked the land: from The Giant Armaldo the Great to Dunames of the 4 Blades, he knew it all, right from their births, exploits and their untimely deaths. Abandoning the oppertunity to learn in the most famed of Scholarly establishments, Almaz resolved to become a Hero, despite his Parent's wishes. Brandishing a worn-out Longsword while wearing a pair of Grieves he bought with 3 Month's worth of allowance and his great-great-grandfather's gauntlets, he ran off from his manor to become the new Human champion of Woarel.

Or so he thought.

Turns out the life of a hero had to start somewhere on the bottom of the ladder. Barely making it out alive from seemingly safe errands gone horribly wrong, Almaz found it hard to act like any hero worthy of respect due to his lack of courage and internal fortitude. However, one day he had heard of a certain...place where foul creatures congregated about. While lost in a drunken trance, Almaz openly accepted the endeavor by declaring that he would defeat every Demon in that area. The tavern partied for one night, then pushing their new 'Hero' to the entrance towards the desolated Manor. Overcome with fear and shock, Almaz could only gulp as he walked ever close, his hand slightly shaking as he treaded lightly, his blade brandished should any child of the night wander by...After almost being killed by a swarm of Gremlins (Somewhat weak creatures, mind you), he lost hope, until he met up with a Young Bard whom took him by the hand. Since then, the two forged a friendship built upon trust and dreams, as the bard aspired to become a great troubadour. The two walked across plains, mountains and hills, only to come across a city by the sea, not knowing that their fates would intertwine amongst others...
Other: The only way he could gain courage is through the number of women around him. Feeling the need to impress any woman alive, he gains reckless courage through this way.

Just a couple of small thingies :)

The ring is way too powerful...I mean, magic is something ultra-strange, let alone that kind of rings... the maximum I would be allowing in a ring would be something like a ring with an inchantment to make the bearer impossible to hurt through fire, or water, or wind, ... you know, resistance to one element.

And the second small thingie is about those imps. I haven't decided yet if there will be other beings besides humans, so I'd prefer you remove that.

Other than that, your character sheet is excellent.

Oh yeah, the wife thing...could you have him be a little older? 13 and a wife seems a little 'wow' for me...perhaps being 16 would be ok? It's just that when you talked about a wife, after seeing he's 13, I was shocked...

hmm...alright...you keep it, but try to play it as such, ok? I mean, assuming that the wife would be definitely more mature...ok? :) As long as you can do it "realistically" I will accept it without any problem.
