The Black Diamond Circle

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Jeweyll Lose on Fri Nov 09, 2007 10:19 pm

An old, wizened man pushed back the long, silk sleeves of his midnight-blue robes. The candle in front of him flickered as a cold breeze blew in from the only window in the room - one overlooking a turbulent sea reflecting the crescent moon's bright light. He stretched out a single gnarled hand to pick up an eagle quill, and dipped its sharpened white point into an ink-pot of crimson ink. He hesitated a moment, then pulled a sheet of fresh, heavy parchment towards him, and started writing slowly, picking and choosing his words with extreme care. As he wrote, the ink dried fast, leaving behind runes that were a interesting shade of brown. When he finished, he flapped the parchment once, drying the last words he wrote, then examined his work over his black-rimmed spectacles. This was what he wrote:

"This may come as a shock to you, but you are actually a mage. You may or may not have known this long before, have even been trained in your element, but the single truth is, you are a mage, and I now require your help. I have chosen you to guard the precious Black Diamond, which you may know holds this kingdom safe and protected from other kingdoms that surround us. This Black Diamond is the heart of our kingdom. It holds magic from the past ages, strong yet dangerous magic, and whoever beholds that kind of destructive magic must not misuse it, or else doom would befall many people. The Diamond has, for thousands of years, held up the magical charms that shield us from warfare. It must not fall into the hands of the enemy. Recently, I fear that the Black Diamond's safety is threatened, and that is why I now beg for your help.

If you have no misgivings about leaving your home for the sake of this kingdom, please meet me at noon exactly a week from now, at the Hangman's Pier. Again, I beseech you, come protect our kingdom.

Yours Truly,
The Wizard."

The old man sighed, pleased with his work, then proceeded to copy out this message seven times. He carefully folded all eight pieces of parchment, slid them into eight beige-colored envelopes, then with a wave of his hand and a muttered incantation, the envelopes hovered into the air and zoomed out of the window towards their chosen destinations.

Name: Sairen Delan
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Element: Metal
Appearance: Sairen's long black tresses reach to her lower back and almost exclusively remain in their straight, unrestrained state unless they become a hassle. Over all, she is quite natural and somewhat plain. Her entire appearance reflects this quiet reverence of nature and shows that one does not need to wear beautiful things to be beautiful. From her bright, jade-colored eyes to the faint brown freckles that are lightly dusted across the bridge of her nose to her cheekbones, creating a vision of innocence and childlike bashfulness, completely void of any evil selfishness that seems so commonplace in the people that surround her. Freckles also cover the rest of her body, but not in such a thick concentration as on her nose and cheekbones. She is slightly tan from her long hours of work and her body shows the faint striations distinguishing her muscles gained as the tan was, through hard work.
Personality: She--very rightly so--comes off as cold toward other human beings and soft-spoken when in conversation with said organisms. The latter is somewhat untrue; rather she is selective in what she says and likes to take into account all the information she possesses before she makes any decisions or statements. Her Achilles' heel would be, quite clichely, animals, excluding the domesticated canine on principle. She enjoys the company of cats and will often pick up strays to care for. Currently, she is the caretaker of six cats and three kittens, all of whom come and go as they please while stopping every once in a while for some attention and food. On occasion, she will show a kind streak in the presence of children, but the majority of children she interacts with are spoilt or unruly and she dislikes these characteristics. Despite this 'luke warm' side, she sees life as a game of chess and is not afraid to sacrifice a pawn here or there, though when it comes to the cats that share her home, she would be hard pressed to see them as dispensable.
Talents:
- She wields a metal staff that nearly reaches six feet and does so quite deftly
- She reads well and often, thus gaining both knowledge and skill easily
- She has the amazing talent of cooking dishes so dreadfully awful that it could only be described as a rare skill only one of the gods could possess
Background: She left her own village after her parents' demise--something she doesn't like talking about--and moved into a room stationed above a bakery three villages away. She tried her hand at baking, but was thrust from the kitchen and appointed as a dishwasher, water-fetcher, shop-cleaner and over all laborer. Soon, however, the family-owned bakery had to close down due to a lack of profits brought on by the slowly dying status of the town. She moved to the next town over and was attacked promptly upon arrival. Not knowing any sort of self-protection, one of the men almost succeeded in forcing himself upon her before she was rescued by a young man. She has spent the two years leading up the reception of 'her' letter living with this young man and his master, learning from the two some fighting skills while she worked as a tender of crops and whatever else she was needed for. After her master received his letter in the mail, she quickly took it and, thus taking his place in the protection of her kingdom, she protected him, in his old age, of having to exert his weak body. In her opinion, her fellow student, Ray, wouldn't be able to handle the pressure of such a duty and would become distracted with saving a canary from a tree, leaving the diamond unprotected.
Little did she know, the letter had originally been meant for her and Bane--her master--had taken it upon himself to go in her stead. His efforts were, of course, in vain.

Name: Cassandra Rivet
Age: 23
Gender: female
Element : water
Appearance: White hair just to her shoulders, large blue eyes and fair skinned. She generally wears deep blue robes and simple dresses, nothing too fancy. Average height and build. Carries a dark blue staff encrusted with small jewels and topped with a carved moon.
Personality: Easily amused, hard to make angry.
Talents : No formal combat training aside from magic, but if need be, she will thwack someone with her staff. Also has a good singing voice. Can't cook in the least.
Background : Cassandra was discovered as having a talent with water when she was young, after causing the fishing pond to boil when she became angry. She was quickly shipped off to a nearby magic academy, where she learned the basics of the art, and graduated with no real difficulty. She has since gone from town to town, performing small enchantments to make spare change, and looking for a permanent residence...preferably somewhere with a beach. She was excited at the prospect of defending the world (or whatever it was the letter she skimmed over said) and took off without so much as paying her tab at the inn she had been in.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Shadeyrou on Tue Nov 13, 2007 4:01 pm

Name: Shadelle Nosa, nicknames: Shade, Elle.
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Element: Darkness
Appearance: Long white hair, very soft and light blue eyes, clothing is like this http://jadedmandarin.deviantart.com/art/Ye-Olde-White-Mage-2366628
Personality: Shade is a very intelligent person, she usually remains quiet though. It looks like she hides many aspects of her personality, though she's very good at hiding it.
Talents: Intelligence, emotion control, though she doesn't look it, she is very proficient with staff and polearm combat.
Background: Shade was dropped off at an orphanage the day of her birth, her parents were less than thrilled with her arriving. For the first 7 years of her life she was raised in the orphanage, socializing very little with the others, but concentrating and excelling in her schoolwork. On occasion, nobles would drop by to adopt, if only to gain public favor. Shade believes she was adopted because she was quiet, and intelligent. Though she would never show it, she was actually happy to be out of there. Her new "parents" put her into the highest available education place around. Shade aced all her classes, she loved school, it was one of the only things that made her happy, that and, those other things which she wished to keep secret. Eventually her parents gave her enough money to buy a house, and start whatever kind of a life she wished, which was possible considering all her education. She chose a small house in the outskirts of some town, the only reason being it rained almost constantly. She lived there for a long time, reading books, receiving the occasional young one wishing for some education. Shade assumed the profession of teacher. She received a letter, an odd occurrence for her, it was from someone she didn't know... The letter opened easily enough, she read it over calmly, after finishing, a small, small, smile, might have appeared. She nodded and tucked the letter away, getting up to prepare her things for departure.

Leo was walking around in his room, kept thinking about the shooting competition. How the hell could he had missed? He had shot surely a meter above the whole big target. Someone must have sabotaged his bow! Leo was angry, so he smashed his foot into the wall, causing lots of pain. He got interrupted by his mom calling for him.
"WHAT IS IT MOM?" he yelled back.
"There is a letter for you!" she replied.
"A letter, for me?" he thought to himself as he walked to the others.
"Here it is." his mother said the second he came into the room.
"Thanks." he replied and walked back to the room. He looked at it, and there were no senders name. He opened the letter, read, read again to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
He wanted to leave right away, so started packing. When he was done, he took the things, and ran to his family, he hugged them all, hard, and told them he loved them. He never told them where he was going, he just left. As he closed the door, some tears ran down his cheek, but he quickly wiped them off. He headed east, to the old man. Leo almost stopped for a second, what if this wasn't real? What if it just were some boys messin' with him again? But he ignored that thought, no boy in the village were that clever. He walked for many nights and days, trough forest and mud. He did not want to walk on the road, because he was always a litte afraid of bandits, they were really common here. After some days, he forgot to count them, he finally arrived to a city. He hoped this was the right place, and he walked up to someone.
"Hello, uhm, you know where "Hangman's pier" is?" he asked.

OOC: Ok never mind.

Cassandra strolled into the town, wide blue eyes taking in everything around her. Her staff clicked on the ground with each step.
It was a nice day.
There was the pier, a delightful place, if only for the large quantity of water involved in it. She paused, looking down at the delightful blue liquid, and smiled a bit, reaching out her hand and twirling it a bit, causing a tiny swirl in the water. Such fun.
Looking up to the sky, she sighed. The sun was not quite at its peak. I'm early. And I'm hungry. Having been walking on her own, she had been living only on what was safe to eat as it was. Berries and mushrooms. Not terrible, in and of themselves, but it got old after a while. She glanced around, searching for some shop or stand for some decent food, one hand fingering the pouch she kept her earnings in.

Re: The Black Diamond Circle

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Angel_Melfina on Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:57 am

Name: Saylee Quin
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Element: Fire
Appearance: Saylee has long, wavy hair that is a very deep red color. She usually leaves it down so that it falls down her back in huge contrast to the white dress she wears. Her dress extends down to her knees and is very simple with no ornamentation at all. It is tight against her slender figure, with long-sleeves that connect to a ring on the middle finger of each hand. She wears white boots that lace up to meet the hem of her dress at her knees. Her earrings and necklace are very ornate in contrast to her outfit. Her earrings are in the chandalier style, and are almost antique-looking. She wears many necklaces that are all jumbled up around her neck, falling down as far as her stomach.
Personality: Saylee can get pretty loud sometimes. She is very insecure, and feels as though she must always be the center of attention for people to like her. It is very hard to read her because she will tell many lies to get the people around her to like her. She has never had the chance to attend school, because of her background, so she gets very nervous when things involve lots of knowledge. She frequently goes through fits of depression because of her past, and at times when she realizes how different she is from others.
Talents: Saylee has no knowledge of defending herself, and she has no possessions of her own except the clothes on her back. Her only talent is making clothes for people who happen to need it in the towns she wanders through. She does not know she is a mage.
Background: Saylee lived happily with her parents in a small town up until she was 11 years old. Her parents were leaders in the small community, so her whole family was admired. On her 11th birthday and during her celebration, her town was attacked and her parents forced her to flee into the bay that the town thrived on. She watched her town get torn apart from the old fishing dock that she hid under. After the attackers left, she searched for her parents but never even found their bodies. She spent years as a child wandering from town to town looking for them, but to no avail. Her attitude has changed over the years, and she feels abandoned by her parents. She feels as though she has lost much of her identity. While wandering, she learned to sew her own clothes from scraps of cloth she found in the villages she visited. She now makes her living revisiting the same villages over and over again hoping to find work to get food. She does not know she is a mage, but will soon realize her power.
Today, Friday, October 10, 2009, is my last day on RolePlayGateway.com.
Everyone give me lots of love, because I shall be handing lots out. <3

Re: The Black Diamond Circle

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Jeweyll Lose on Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:12 am

For a late-autumn day, the weather was pretty fair; the sun was peeking out behind fluffy white clouds, and the ocean was blue and gentle. Cargo ships and fishermen's boats rocked rhythmically in the cradle of the ocean, and a cool salty breeze whispered through the cottages lined by the pier, bearing flocks of white-winged seagulls squawking in its wake. If you squinted hard enough, you could just make out the faint outline of Krahn, the kingdom to the east.

Hangman's Pier stood, creaking and squealing as boots squelched on it. This place was called Hangman's Pier for a reason. In the early days, before protection and peace followed in the wake of the arrival of the Black Diamond, convicts were shipped off here to an island in the middle of the Blue Ocean, where a heavily-guarded prison was situated. It was the most horrific place you could ever imagine, cold stone cells and stale stew. The screams of the convicts as they were dragged off were echoed here, and remainders still lay about - several handcuffs lay abandoned on the beach below and the rusty railing was stained with long-since dried blood.

But for now, peace lay in the kingdom of Prayn. For now.

OOC: I named this kingdom Prayn and the neighboring one (also the enemy!) Krahn.

Saylee was sitting on the bank of a creek watching the little tadpoles swim around in the still water when the beige envelope appeared in front of her. She stared at the floating object for a moment, almost not unable to believe what was in front of her. Magic was not prevalent in the area that she was from, so she did not have a lot of first hand experience with it.

She reached for it and slowly opened it. She was afraid of what she might find inside, and she wasn't sure why. She proceeded to read the parchment as slowly as she had opened the envelope. She didn't understand half of the words in it.

"Damn it.." she mumbled under her breath. "This thing probably isn't even for me anyway."

She tossed the envelope and parchment into the water and watched it float into the midst of the creek. She stood up, and started to walk along the bank, trying to forget what just happened. False hope, that is all it was.

Before she even knew what she was doing, she jumped into the creek and grabbed the parchment. What was the name of that place?

"Ha...Hang...ma...man's P...Pier. Maybe someone there needs new clothes."

Not knowing which way she was supposed to go, she headed from town to town getting directions until she finally arrived to the city that housed the pier.

She stared in awe at the immense brilliance of the large city. It was so much different than where she came from. Everything lately was different.

Shade had a horse-drawn carriage within an hour or so of receiving the letter. She loaded her things and got on. In only a few days they would arrive at the pier. Shade read nearly the entire time there, she was reading up on magic, considering the contents of the letter. The days passed rather quickly, she walked down to the pier, her bag full of books and a spare robe. She looked around, no one stood out, just a bunch of sailors and dock workers. She sat on the edge of the dock and took out a book to read. Guess I'll just wait...

Cassandra, one hand holding her staff, one hand full of some odd combination of bread, meat and cheese, made her way back to the peer, mouth full of a delightful, if odd, bite. Chewing happily, she was paying perhaps less attention to her own path than she should have been...and nearly tripped over a girl reading a book.
"Wooph! My apologies, stranger!" She proclaimed after swallowing her bite. "I didn't see you there!"

She blinked, pulled back to reality. Shade looked up at the woman and nodded, speaking quietly "It's ok." She looked the woman over. She doesn't look like any of the others here... Maybe she knows something The pier creaked as she got to her feet, "Excuse me but... May I ask why you're here? I received a letter asking me to meet some people here and... You're the first person I've see who isn't a dockworker." She extended her hand, "I'm Shadelle, you can call me Shade, or Elle."

"Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who came... I wonder how many more will be coming... And who we're meeting exactly." She looked around the dock once more. "Care to wait here with me?" She sat down on the edge of the dock, feet hanging over. Shade was never a very social person, but oddly enough she more open to strangers then those who were close to her. "Can I ask your name?"

Cassandra smiled brightly, settling herself next to the girl. "Many thanks. And my name is Cassandra. Pleased to make your acquaintance!"
She swung her feet a bit, looking down with great delight at the water. It seemed to sparkle and splash directly up at her, for her. She settled her staff across her knees, looking Shade up and down. "So where are you from, Shade?"

"Just a few days north of here." She looked out over the water, looking very calm and at peace. "Not sure if it has a name.... It rains very often, only reason I live there. She put the rather large book she was holding with the rest, all of which were also quite big. "Oh, and nice to meet you Cassandra." Shade nodded, with a very faint and small smile. This girl is rather happy... And hasn't prejudged me, perhaps I could grow to like her... "Where might you be from?"

Saylee stepped in to the town gates and continued to look around in awe at all the goings-ons around her. On one side of the city were numerous market stands with both meek and rich looking housing in the background, and on the other side, a vast ocean that stretched to the horizon. The sun reflected straight down the middle, producing an almost heavenly glow on the edge of the town.

Saylee wandered around the town, looking for people who might be looking at cloth to buy. She was hoping that she could catch one of them and offer her seemstress skills.

"I can make almost anything with just a small amount of fabric!"

"Wouldn't you rather have someone make you something than just buy it?"

"Do you have spare cloth? I can make you something with it! Anything!"

No one even looked at her.

She wandered to the end of a dock and sat down, just a few feet away from a couple other ladies sitting, dangling their legs. She didn't notice them. She didn't even know she was on the pier that she'd been looking for. She pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them, watching the people pass by.

(OOC: Edited, after iggman said he wasn't going to talk to someone.)
