The Chosen Four ( )

Postby Lord Saladin on Sun Jun 07, 2009 5:40 pm

Once upon a time... Okay, before time began. A conference was held with God and the full host of heaven;in this conference, a plan was put forth and anyone with a knowledge of Christianity should know this plan. It involves the Son of God, the Prince of the Morning, and every person who has ever lived, will live, and is living now.

Through whatever means, some elements of the truth have been shamefully skewed for reasons we can't truly understand. Though one could assume it too was a part of the great plan. The Prince of the Morning, given the name Lucifer, or Satan, the Devil, has been known as the evil force within the universe, being a tempter of souls, wreaking damnation on any he could corrupt with whispers of riches and women, of power and dominion. Repulsive to the minds and sensibilities of the general populace, attention is generally kept from his direction. His very name is a taboo.

Yet the truth could not be further from this common misconception; for the Prince's mission is one that will bring a new dawn, a morning of greatness that will see completion of the great plan constructed before time even began. The Apocalypse. The Four Horsemen. A legend that people have been led to believe is the end of the world, its full destruction. Nay, truth will tell that The Apocalypse is the salvation of the world. Lucifer's role is to find the chosen four, train them, and then lead them into the battle that will cleanse the world, bringing to it a renewed birth.

This roleplay maps the search of Lucifer for the four people who will act as the horsemen in the Apocalypse, their training, and finally, the Apocalypse itself. Please note that this isn't designed to be a particularly religious roleplay, though inevitably there will be elements of religion involved. Also note that the story and plot do not, in any way, represent my religious beliefs.

I am looking for roleplayers of a high-level literary ability who can construct a well-written, gripping and exciting roleplay. As such, please don't apply to join this roleplay if you are not of a high level. I have no interest in those who are unable to spell, use correct grammar, and/or write tiny posts expecting them to be accepted. I will be looking at posts from each person who applies to join, so please don't waste my time. :)

As for characters, I will be taking the 'Game Master' role of Lucifer, and also Death. The other available Horsemen are War, Pestilence and Famine. Obviously, ancillary characters are permissible and even encouraged: We need more than just five characters, and not everyone can have a Horseman.

As for the Horsemen themselves, I want each of them to be a historical and prominent figure, though from any time period: From ancient history, to modern day people. How you play the character is entirely up to you, you need not provide a 'carbon copy' of your selected 'celebrity' - so feel free to interpret them how you will. But, remember, you are choosing that person because you associate them as somehow being able to fit the role of the particular Horseman.

This roleplay will be spanned across various periods in history (and maybe even the future), so all characters can be from any era. As such, you have a pretty free reign when it comes to making your character. However, please do not post up anime-type characters; I don't want to see cat-girls or "confident, shy girl-looking emo boys with gravity defying hair that glows." Overall, this roleplay will be a realistic game, with the occasional fantasy element. So, keep that in mind.

As for the desired tone of the roleplay, I am looking for a study of how people deal with a reconstruction of their reality, how being given duties they could deem beyond their ability affects them. I want it to engage the reader and make them want to see what happens next: Tension of development will be important as such. Delving into your character is paramount. This is why I want only advanced roleplayers.

If you want to apply, just post in this thread. For the Horsemen, state the one you want, the character you want for that role, and then why you think they would be suitable. For ancillary characters, please state the era they are from, how you envisage they'll be connected to the whole story and a little background information: I don't really require a full biography, however. I'll not ever read it, so you'll be wasting your own time.

This should hopefully develop into a brilliant roleplay, so let's get on with it, people. :)

One question: If we take somebody from history for a horseman, they have to have something to do with their role as horseman, yes? Does that mean they fought for or against what their role a as a horseman is? Who would be better for War, Gandhi or Genghis Kahn?

That is entirely up to yourself. It doesn't have to be a direct relationship to their particular role, either. If you can see some abstract reasoning, then go with it when you make an application.

Could I be Plague and Hitler? I have no love for Hitler(in fact, I hate him to my very core), so I would like to add a bit of a humorous element by making him appear to be the inept dunce he was, and he did the Holocaust so I think he would be good for Plague.

WAIT! I thought you wanted War, so I chose that. If you don't want it I'll be War and Caesar(or Patton, I can't decide).

Well, Phidius, I'm afraid that you won't be eligible for this roleplay. I've taken a look at a few of your posts, and they don't make the grade.

DCLXVI, as requested, I'd also like to know why you think the chosen person would be suitable for the role of the particular horseman you want before I consider your application.

Patton's cooler than Caesar. But no, I just used War as an example. I wanted Famine, but I can't think of a good person besides Mao, and I know nothing about China. Thing about Famine and Plague is that they're not really people-driven things... Although one could have a metaphorical thing, I suppose. What can famine be a metaphor for?

Oh, hey! I could be Pol Pot! Oh, wait...I know nothing about Cambodia...

Joe McCarthy? Yeah, him...he could be Pestilence. Not famine, certainly...I don't know. I'm not even sure 876'll take me, so I won't hold my breath.

Well, given that you've made several suggestions and yet have failed, despite two requests to do so, to give reasons WHY that person would be suitable for the role, the chances are you won't be up to the spec required. However, once you have met the requirements of the application: Desired horseman, person to be that horseman, and finally a reason for that person being that horseman; I will take a look at your posts to make judgement.

Eragon, you're not accepted. ForgetMe, please read what is required of an application: you need to include why you think your chosen person is suitable for the role of whichever horseman you've picked.

I want to join. You should easily find roleplay posts done by me- especially my Gateworld RP which sadly never started after several attempts.

Well then, I choose Pestilence. The 'celebrity' character shall be Josef Mengele from Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland during World War 2. It was started in 1941 I believe, and he himself conducted many pseudo-scientific studies such as burning jews alive to 'observe' how long it takes for a person to receive first, second and third degree burns. He is also known as the Angel of Death, and had a hobby for twins and dwarfs.

Some more info: He operated without anaesthesia, performed vivisections, brain transplants, sowed the body parts of various people together to create faux siamese twins, and the diseases Norma, Tuberculosis, and Measles ran rampant throughout the camp because of the extremely poor living conditions coupled with insane worktimes, lack of sleep/food, and general de-motivation of the prisoners.

If prisoners showed signs of sickness, they would immediately be transferred to the isolation ward- a cover-up name for a room where prisoners die by lethal injection. In addition, Auschwitz had a shooting range, an area for jews/russians/war criminals to dig their own graves, furnaces, gallows, and gas rooms.

Every couple of weeks several prisoners get selected for execution. Most of the time the prisoners killed included failed escapees, prisoners trying to rebel, suspected of rebelling or fleeing, and those failing their saving throw for luck. Space was also a factor for these executions; Auschwitz accomodated over fifty thousand prisoners up to the end of World War 2.

I choose pestilence because pestilence means sickness, a trait which was present in Mengele's mind judging from his actions, and the way he treated, abused, and murdered people for the sake of scientific study.

History is fun.

This is my first obvious choice without thinking too hard on the subject of Pestilence. I will continue to think on my rider until you give me the OK to continue or a slap of DENIED to the forehead.

Cheers!

Next choices: The Black Dahlia, or H.H.Holmes

Reason: The Black Dahlia isn't an obvious choice for any of the riders, but I think her character could be made to fit. She was the victim of a cruel murder in which her body was drained of blood, her face slashed and her limbs twisted apart. I think that she, after death, could become a very good potential candidate for a rider, mainly pestilence as I think it's much more befitting of the name to revel in poisons and disease than anything else.

H. H. Holmes is a murderer from the early 20th Century that murdered over two hundred people in his 'house of horror'. Some of the ways in which he killed them were rooms full of gas, acid, or drains leading to vats of acid. It's said that he masturbated to their screams and would later skin them, polish their bones and sell their skeletons to universities. Regarded as a charmer of women, and only discovered because of DNA tests found from remnants in the sewers that linked the victim's death to Holmes.

More to come.

Edward Bernays, at your service. Nephew of Sigmund Freud, born in 1891, is the father of modern propaganda. And so far as public opinion is concerned, Bernays is the authority on swaying it - for you or against you. What exactly are we fighting for, he might ask, but your response had better involve a large cash sum, benefits, and immunity.

I saw you inviting Vex and Rem to this in chat, and was intrigued. Please feel free to check my references both here and elsewhere. Bernays would be an ancillary role, and I intend to play him as accurately as possible. His historic disdain for the inherent chaos in society, his idyllic goal of a corporate utopia, and his Wikipedia article will all be a great help in melding into the Apocalypse plot.

Let me know your thoughts.

If you're the Alias I think you are; author of the Thick With Issues blog, then I have no need to check your posts. You'll be accepted automatically. Just confirm that you are for me. Or not. Whichever the case may be.

And I love the idea of having your character involved. Could certainly make some interesting plot devices that I hadn't, thus far, considered. :)

Edit: Well, just saw on your profile you're at Carnegie Mellon. Which means that you are indeed the Alias I suspected you to be. As such: Welcome to The Chosen Four.

Perhaps if you ave room I may join this Role-play. I am interested however I will not be able to post everyday but every three days or so. I like to craft my posts if that is acceptable I will submit bodies of work to be reviewed for acceptance.

I chose Hitler because, not only, did he create/cause a world war but he also inspired loyalty in people, forced them to kill their own- and people who looked exactly like Hitler himself. Living through many assassinations, only to kill himself later.

Hitler created war, hatred, unfathomable loyalty, fear, and anger in most people whom he encountered. He effected the whole world- and that Is what I think he should be one of the Horsemen, seeing as this man represents war in every aspect- the emotions, the fighting, and the loyalty that can come from war.
