The City That Never Sleeps ( )

Postby Billie_blujean on Sun Jul 20, 2008 1:53 pm

"The world in which they live is the same as the world you live in. They watch the same shows, listen to the same music, and eat the same food. Except... when the sun goes down, more of them stay inside. More of them look over their shoulders as they walk to their cars and more of them stay in the streetlights as they walk down the sidewalk. More of them also go missing each year.

The shadows are longer, the nights are darker. More of them are afraid of the dark. And they should be. Because here there be monsters."

Okay, so. I'm restarting a group loosely based on White Wolf's New World of Darkness series of Role Playing Games. For those of you not familiar with it, here are some links that I encourage you to check up on before you decide whether or not to join. First, visit the World of Darkness Wikipedia page and read through the different types of characters available. In case you were too lazy to click the link - you can play a mortal (who is either aware of what's going on or not), a vampire (if so, make sure you visit here), A werewolf (once again, check here), a mage (here), a Promethean (here), or a changeling (here).

You do not need to have read the previous posts of the thread unless you want to play a character that has some sort of relationship with one of the already established ones. Think of it as moving into a new neighborhood - you don't necessarily know your neighbors' histories, you just know what you see presented in front of you.

Then, if you're interested, please contact me by PM and I will inform you how I suggest one goes about making a character.

Thanks!

~Billie

Hmmm what where? O yeah, ummmm. Yeah I'll join. XP

Nice to see you again Billie, any chance of getting Tony in here?
Hello all, I'm sorry to say any and all RPing has been put on a complete hold on my end. The school I am presently attending gives me time to eat and do homework. My sleep usually averages 5 hours a night and I don't have enough free time to do any RP justice. I'm sorry and hopefully I will be able to continue my participation in this fine community once summer hits.

I can keep playing him if that's what you'd like. I definitely don't mind having two characters.

Re: The City That Never Sleeps ( )

Character:

Type: Changeling

Name: Sybil Cleareyes (AKA Miss Fortune)

Age: 5 (apparent age - 25)

Seeming/Kith: Wizened Oracle

Background: All she wanted was to play with her dolls somewhere away from her mean big brother. Instead, she was swept away at 5 years old to read the future for a demented Keeper who had an old phone book and went down the names held within, forcing each person's fortune to be told. 20 years later, she focused on her own name instead of the name her Keeper was reading out loud and the cards she had been given by her Keeper told her how to escape. When she returned, she ended up in her backyard, watching her 5 year-old self walking back up to the house, arguing with her big brother. Approximately 15 minutes had passed.

Physical Description: She has pitch black eyes that make it impossible to see where she's looking and is 5'0, weighing maybe 80 pounds. Her forehead is taken up almost completely by a large third eye that has a bright blue iris. She keeps it covered by a hedgespun bandanna, since it weirds people out - she can't control it and it has a tendency of weeping blood red tears. In human eyes, she looks very small and frail, with a tattoo of a sun surrounding a celtic knot on her forehead. Her Tarot deck is extremely thin and almost see-through. It's made of a very strong material that looks a bit like tissue paper, but she has a very disturbing feeling that she can feel a pulse in the cards and worries (probably correctly) that they're made out of human flesh. The pictures on the cards are constantly moving paintings done by a wizened artist, she believes, and she fears the card Death - which depicts a member of the Gentry who feels familiar and always seems to look into her eyes every time it's dealt. To human eyes, her cards look handmade, and many of her customers express their appreciation at how beautiful they are.

Personality: Sybil is smart, and despite her disturbing appearance, she is quite confident. She makes a living telling fortunes at the local flea market (and just enough of her fortunes come true that she gets many return customers). Sybil has befriended (and ensorcelled) the local Vampire Prince, working as his day-time goto when he's busy. She has also been known to be friendly enough to Mages and werewolves seeking information... as long as the price is right.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Sybil has minor flashes of the future and the occasional prophetic dream. She has a difficult time relating to women, as she spent most of her adolescence chained up in a single dusty library. She also doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut about certain aspects of people she finds off-putting. It makes her seem very rude.

Flaws: The only major flaw Sybil has are terrible nightmares that often leave her grumpy and irritable the next day. She also has a five year old Fetch that replaced her - who wants to make her life miserable.

Opinions:
Vampires: Some are decent enough, others could do with a few lessons on manners.
Werewolves: When they're not assholes, they're fine.
Mages: Think they know too much, and a bit obsessed with themselves.
Prometheans: What?
Mortals: I wish I was with them again.

Re: The City That Never Sleeps ( )

Postby Tony Gerspacher on Mon Jul 21, 2008 12:03 pm

Character:

Name:
Antonius "Tony" Gerspacher

Age:
430 (Apparent Age-28)

Type:
Vampire (Nosferatu)

Title:
City's Prince

Covenant Title:
Untamed Visionary of the Curse

Background:
Born in 1578, Tony was around while men like Galileo Galilile, Issac Newton, and Robert Boyle walked the Earth. Born to a noble family in the late 16th century, Tony had the means to be whatever he wanted. Growing up in Europe with a merchant father, he moved constantly. Weary of his high-end lifestyle, he grew bored and made a change in his life. Wanting more, he secretly began living as a slum kid, learning the tricks, the families, and the ways of those less fortunate. His heart was moved as he shared these people's joys and sorrows. Using what resources he had, he devoted what his life to the study of knowledge, seeking to better both himself and those he became acquainted with.

Later, Tony joined a military group, doing the bidding of England's king. After a few short years, he had discovered truth about humanity. Disgusted by the atrocities that humans could commit, he ran away, surviving in the cold woodlands of his homeland. After a few years, he finally had enough. During his travels, he found an old decrepit keep, surrounded by miles of woodland. With his food gone and his spirits low, he entered that dreaded place. He lay himself down upon a stone table, awaiting his slow and quiet death. It was then that he heard the voices, the rasping low whine of other beings. It was at that moment when someone asked him,"Do you wish to live?" that he became an eternal member of the damned.

Personality:
Tony is a noble man, not consumed with self-absorbed notions of grandeur. Tony is a tough leader, taking care of his own, and defending his laws and way of life. A courteous and well kept man, his only downside is his wrathfulness, but it also takes an extreme situation of irritation to trigger these violent episodes. His secretive manner is only fitting an elder member of the Ordo Dracul. Willing to listen to anyone and also with an open door to those under him, Tony looks to his city for a life that he seeks.

Physical Description:
Tony is a tall man, very muscular. At first glance he would seem the type of person you'd rather not be around too long. His face is hidden behind a bony mask. His skin is an ashy black with greenish tones, his sinewy muscles showing as if he had no skin at all. Behind his mask are two glowing red eyes, full of fire. He dresses the part of a smart businessman, often reflecting the fashions of those he wishes to impress or intimidate. The only symbol or adornment on his person is a talisman with a dragon holding a spear.

This is Tony when in frenzy, as rare as this event is...it is almost always ended with the death of something.
Image

Strength/Weakness:
Tony is powerful. Having been around much longer than an average vampire of todays standards, he has seen his share of time. His body and his mind are as sharp as ever and he is a force to be reckoned with. His only real weakness are his bouts of violent rage, some attribute this to the beast inside him, but those who know him know that his beast is him. Maybe he acts out on purpose, maybe not. It may never be known.

Flaw- Ashamed of his face, his mask is never removed in public or around those he does not trust.
Image

Opinions-
Vamps-- Eternal brethren of the damned
Werewolves- A curious and rowdy bunch, There deep seated sense of pride and comradere is admirable.
Mages- Self-absorbed cattle, but fun to watch.
Mortals- The herd, take care of them, and they will nourish you forever.
Prometheans- This somewhat new occurrence is somewhat unsettling , but still a marvel of the supernatural.

Re: The City That Never Sleeps ( )

Postby Surreal on Mon Jul 21, 2008 2:59 pm

Finally finished my profile. Hope it's acceptable. :D

Type: Werewolf

Name: Leonard Ferral (prefers "Leon")

Age/Apparent Age: (Apparent age: around 23 ) ( Actual age: 105 )

Auspice: Rahu (The Full Moon, The Warrior) - warriors of all kinds from brawlers to seasoned commanders.

Tribe: Ghost Wolves (Thihirtha Numea) - not an actual tribe, rather a collective term for Uratha who eschew the tribes while not necessarily abandoning the Oath of the Moon. As they are not a tribe, they have no patron spirit or tribal ban.

Background: Born in the early 1900s, both parents died of typhoid fever when he was three. He went to an orphanage, where he lived until he experienced his First Change at the age of twelve. After realizing he was a werewolf, he ran away and took to wandering the world. He discovered that there were others like him, and that they formed tribes. He then joined the Farsil Luhal, the Iron Masters, and he stayed with them for many years.

But finally a fellow tribe-member, who hated Leon for daring to love the same women as he, arranged with a Hunter to kill Leon, forcing him to flee. The Hunter, wanting to keep up his reputation as being relentless, tracked Leon all across the globe, until a final confrontation which ended in the Hunter's death.

After that, Leon felt that he couldn't trust anyone but himself, and became a Ghost Wolf, wandering around on his own.

Physical Description: About 6' tall and weighing 180 pounds, his eyes are blue and his hair (whose style has changed many times over the years and is currently several inches long and messy) is brown. Wears modern fashion, consisting of a pair of baggy faded blue jeans, a black Hoodie, and Converse sneakers.

Personality: Generally polite and reserved around strangers, but he becomes quite friendly around friends. Has a quick temper as well.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Very strong for his size, even in human form. Has a fantastic sense of smell and hearing, and can see in the dark quite well. Also has a healing factor much higher than humans, causing him to recover from wounds quickly, unless they are inflicted with a silver weapon.

Weakness include silver, to which he is violently allergic to, and can cause daeth if contact is prolonged, and fire, as his healing factor cannot handle the extensive damage that serious burns cause.

Any flaws: He is stubborn, and hard to sway once he's made up his mind. Also had a rather quick temper, and may react violently when antagonized.

Opinions: If your character doesn't know that certain beings exist, that's cool. If they do, they probably have an opinion. The different groups are -

Vampires: They are dangerous and cunning, but can be great allies.
Mages: Weird and mystical, not to be messed with.
Prometheans: EH?
Changelings: A pity, but what can one do about it?
Hunters: Dangerous and to be feared.
Humans: They're not so bad, as long as they don't find out what you are.

Re: The City That Never Sleeps ( )

Postby Raikou on Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:15 pm

Type: Werewolf

Name: Raikou Touketsu

Age:unknown(apparent age - 19)

Auspices: Rahu (The Warrior)

Background: She belongs to the Storm Lords - the tribe of Winter Wolf seeks to lead all Uratha through strength and noble example. Their tribal ban is "Allow no one to witness or to tend your weakness". Following that ban she is closed off to everyone and never lets anyone close. Many say she is the perfect warrior because she shows no emotion. She is very mistrusting and likes being alone. She's always cold and never talks very much if she can avoid talking at all she would. After going throught hell in training she's gotten use to not having anyone to lean on or to help her out. Many of her memories are full of pain and sadness. She dosen't blame anyone for her suffering, but herself. The training that she was put throught still haunts her and the past keeps her from reaching out to others. Also the fact that she's overlooked and seen as invisible. Being ketp at arms length of everyone she thought of as a friend also helped in making her the way she was. No one knows very much about her or her family history. Raikou may be cold and collective like most fighters, but under all that ice she dose have a heart. She maybe a female, but that dosen't mean that she isn't deadly.

Physical Description: In her human form she's 5'7' and weighs about 150. Her body is lean and tone, but not muscular. Her eyes are a cold silver and her hair black with electric blue highlights, going down to her waist. Her skin is a nice tan color and she keeps a invisible cover of ice over it. Its cover is the wall that keeps her locked within herself, she never lets anyone in which keeps everyone safe. No one can see the ice, but if you touch her you will sure as hell feel it. She wears black baggy pants with a dark blue shirt. For foot wear she has black boots that have alittle heel with a hidden dagger in it. When in her werewolf or wolf form her fur is the same as her hair. Also she's smaller than the average werewold and unlike most of them she isn't ugly when transformed, she just looks like a larger wolf. She has a big fluffy tail that also has electric blue highlights. For her weapons she has a big sword that's about the size of her body and she keeps it straped to her back. She also has two pistols, one is black and the other is silver. The sword can be covered with ice and lightning to help her with her attacks. Her pistols' bullets are very shape and can easily pierce throught skin. Some of her bullets have poison on the tip so that they can immobilize or kill you slowly.

Personality: She's cold and would walk away from any chance to help someone. Being kind isn't something she's been tought so she tends to not help out at all. To her people equels pain which is why she keeps to herself alot. To avoid being hurt or hurting someone she stays away. She dose her job very well and loves to fight. When fighting she feels that she's free even if she's not showing what she's feeling on her face, her eyes give many things away.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Her strengths are that she is the perfect warrior and can easily take down someone bigger than her. Her look is almost innocent which throws people off guard so in fights she's underestimated alot. Her weaknesses are that she dose ever thing alone, no one knows how she stayed alive this long without having help in the worse of fights.

Any flaws: Her really big flaw is that she's anti-social. Being looked over and made to be invisible by most of her pack. Many people don't even use her name, they call her "The warrior". Feeling more like a thing to people that she use to think of as family has made her disgusted with being around others. To her its better to stay inside the frozen walls that she has put on her skin. It keeps her as well as others safe and apart.

Opinions about different species - She could careless and if they mess with her she'll kill them. If they don't mess with her she wouldn't mess with them. Mortals are on her hate list because they destory alot of things they don't understand.

Put up the IC board for us! It can be found HERE

By the way, once again, here are the rules I'd like you guys to follow -

1. Don't play other people's characters for them without their permission. There will be occasions where you and another character are talking to one another and it would be easier (and faster) to play both characters at the same time. This is fine if you have the other player's permission ahead of time! I won't butt in unless someone complains to me, in which case I will encourage you to delete the thread and play the scene out appropriately.

2. Don't take liberties with other players' characters, either. If someone makes a show of having their home (or car, or office) secured, don't randomly show up inside their property without permission. I've known people who wanted to do this for "shock" value, but it can really upset some people.

3. Watch your grammar. I'm not saying you have to be perfect every time, but just keep an eye on your spelling. I also stop about every paragraph and read back what I've written to make sure what I'm saying makes sense. Please do the same with your posts. Also, please leave a single white line between each of your paragraphs (just hit enter twice). And remember - please, no signatures on IC posts!

4. I had you post your character's strengths and weaknesses on purpose. If your character has a specific weakness, such as, "Tends to let others tell her what to do instead of making her own decisions," follow that line of your character. It doesn't hinder you, just makes your character that much more interesting.

I just wanted to mention that I've changed mah' profile a little, updating my Background and Tribe.

Also, is it alright if I create and play a couple secondary characters? I have an idea for a foe of Leon's, who would be around for just a while.

Character:

Type: Mage

Name: Jasper Wilkins

Age: 265 (apparent age - 26)

Seeming/Kith: Guardians of the Veil / Moros

Background: At a young age Jasper really never had any goals or hobbies at that. The question swarming him was always “Why”. Running away from home at age 12 he shortly discovered truth about his existence. Practicing his skills alone for years, Jasper has now decided to venture the world to see exactly what humanity has done to itself in his absence... and plans to fix it.

Physical Description: Standing 5' 11” and weighing a 180lbs the red haired Jasper tries his best to hide any physical descriptions of himself. Doing this not from fear but from paranoia. Wearing all black he covers his hands feet and face from the rest of the world. He is a night walker and hates being out in the sun for the simple fact at hiding his identity. His black leather coat equipped with a durable hood blocks all harmful UV ray's and everyone else's eyeballs from ever seeing him.

Personality: A rouge/loaner who isn't afraid to open his mouth to shut someone else's. Does not hesitate to destroy an inferior being (judged by his opinion). Explores the world looking for his own meaning of life, always trying to answer the personal questions “What am I doing here? What is my purpose?” In search of corruption to study; Corrupted himself, Jasper looks for his inner peace with the world and its inhabitants.
Since Jasper has been self taught most of his life, understanding the technology and specific behaviors of others is hard for him to decipherer, making it hard for him to trust anyone; so, he is constantly peeking over his shoulder.
Run into him with a friendly smile and something worth talking about... maybe you'll be the first to see his bright blue eyes?

Strengths/Weaknesses: Growing up depending on nobody but himself, Jasper doesn't quite get around and make friends. It's quite hard for him to make friends since he thinks the world is out to get him. Although growing up on his own and surviving, practicing just living on his own has taught the necessary skills to be completely dependent... yet lonely.

Flaws: Trust

Opinions:
Vampires: How do I know you're a vampire?
Werewolves: wolves are not important to me...
Mages: Its quite nice to meet a fellow Magi
Prometheans: Stay away... unless you have something of interest to talk about...
Mortals: What have you been up to lately *rubs chin*
I would kill for a Roasted Spleen right now...

Name: Xaul Knofker

Seeming/Kith: Darkling Razorhand

Age: Unknown and unidentifiable. Looks anywhere from 25 to 45 under his scars and tattoos.

Height: 6' 2"

Occupation: Mercenary and prizefighter.

Bio: As an orphan on the streets, Michael was unbeatable in fights. Eschewing the gangs, Michael was his own master, walking freely through the alleys and back streets unhindered.

Until they came.

Terrible in their beauty, the Fae stole Michael in the night, laughing at his attempts to fight back at they dragged him into the shadows of their world. There, he was handed over to the ‘scientists’ of the Arena, dissected and sliced and torn into thousands of pieces, and put together again, changed into Xaul Knofker, the dark blade.

Xaul (which was the only name he knew now) spent centuries and millennia in the arena, fighting to sate the bloodlust that was fed to him by the thousands of spectators that came to see him win, or to see him lose. Dying was the worse part. He would fall to the sand, praying to any gods that would listen that this would be the last time, and wake again, staring at the face of the head ‘scientist’, and be lead once more into the arena, praying for release.

One day, his chance arrived. His captors had done an excellent job in making the perfect fighter, and when Xaul was being led back to his cell, he broke free. Ripping through the guards of the arena easily, ignoring twenty to one odds, Xaul left the place where he had died many times over, looking forward to revenge.

The next century saw one of the bloodiest wars in history, especially considering that one side consisted of only one darkling. What do you expect, when someone cannot die? What do you expect, when spells simply slide around their intended target? What do you expect, when you make the perfect fighting machine and cause it to hate you? What can you do?

Eventually, the West Court of the Fae captured Xaul. However, instead of torturing or killing him (or worse, returning him to the Arena), the West Court, for their own reasons, took Xaul in, caring for him and quenching the pyre of hate that had fuelled his very existence. At the hands of West, Xaul learned about Honor and Chivalry, ideals that he took to heart. With newfound purpose, Xaul returned to the world of humanity, ready to stop any Fae from creating another changeling.

Personality: Xaul is intelligent, honorable and loyal, but only for those who win his trust. He sees himself as the protector of humans from those who would harm them, and therefore hates most predator races. He will still work with them as he recognizes that not all members of a race are evil, but…

Appearance: Xaul is a painfully thin, shadowy presence swathed in a tattered leather trench coat. He has dusky black skin that is almost transparent with black hair and dark eyes, legacies from the Arena’s ‘scientists’. Also, his entire body is covered in ritual scars from the many modifications made in him by the Fae, as well as normal scars that accumulated from the millennia of fighting. Xaul normally wears dark tattered clothes that hide him almost completely when he is in darkness. In the day, these clothes are shabby and ugly, but do a very good job of hiding the chain mesh that he wears underneath. Over everything, Xaul's favorite item is a beaten, battered, and oft-repaired dark leather trench coat.

Equipment: Many throwing knives, thief tools, caltrops, poison blow darts, and nets. Also, a pair of flare pistols, a Smith and Wesson SW99 pistol, and a Nitro Express .700 revolver with dum-dum and normal rounds.
Coat: Xaul's favorite coat is magically enhanced to allow him to always have a pocket that will fit what he needs to carry. He stores everything in this coat, and can pull out the strangest things from it. Often, these items are just what he needs to win a fight. Also, the leather is lined with Kevlar and chainmesh to protect Xaul in a fight.
Suppressor Stones: These cancel out all magic and electronics in a five-meter radius. They can, however, be overloaded, at which time they will explode with the force of all the energy that they have blocked.
Incendiary and concussion grenades: these are each fifteen seconds in time frozen from a natural disaster. The incendiaries are from an erupting volcano, while the concussion grenades are from a force-5 hurricane.
Uška, a multi-bladed Urumi that is linked to Xaul's Kounnar. The increasing level of rage causes the blades of Uška to superheat and scorch anything it touches. Xaul will not be burned by Uška.
Drshil and Haingre, two hooded splitting Katars (favored weapons). These, too, are linked to Kounnar.
Drshil causes a wound to hurt more than normal, increasing with time. At higher levels, Drshil can cause pain simply from proximity, and even cause old scars to re-open. Xaul is immune to this pain.
Haingre causes a wound to instantly begin rotting, and leaves a horrific stench in its wake. Xaul has become used to this smell after years of use. Also, Haingre can cause metal to rust, and wood to rot, simply through contact.

Abilities:
Fighting Style: Xaul is constantly in motion during a fight, always landing light hits and harrying his opponent, until he sees an opportunity, in which case he will dive in and strike. Also, he will often pull items like caltrops, nets,
