Still taking joiners? I'd love to do this one, it's such a complete world and I love the corporations-as-government idea. If you can take one more player, I was wondering if I could play the crew's pilot (not part of the merc team)? I think my pilot charrie would work well for this.

Yes I believe Meng still has the enrollment open, from what he has said I would gather that he will assume you had been here from the beginning, you just were quiet thru the meeting. This will be the second time I've quoted this line but...
The stated rules for joining in are:

Mengmoshu wrote:Out Of Character: Alright this is the first post of the in-character for The Empire of Man RP. It is mostly open for new players. Post character sheets in the OOC thread, I'll approve them and you can join. You'll find the setting outline and a Character sheet template in the OOC thread.

As for your question about playing the crew's pilot, the AI will end up doing most of the piloting and the stated bridge crew are supposed to be NPC's. I doubt they will get off the bridge very often except for sleep and minor recreation on board. IF I read the situation correctly the bridge characters will get left out of most of the fun stuff, which will not be as fun for a player... so I really doubt Meng will open them up as PC's. I could be wrong, so PM Meng about it if you are seriously interested in playing an already defined NPC.

Zephyris has it right on both counts. I am still accepting new players, but there are no openings for the ship's crew members. You'll probably want a non-pilot character since we've already got 2 Player Characters that can do that. I'm hanging on to the Ship's crew as my own characters. I don't want any of them in the limelight, so they'll be mostly staying out of the interesting stuff.

It looks like just about everybody is ready to board the shuttle, so I'll be working on that.

I'm here, I'm just suffering writers block across all my current RPs, I've probably written 3-4 replies so far in concerns to Wizard but I haven't posted any since they're sub standard, also don't think my PM went through to Mengmoshu but anyway, I don't have anything left to do before boarding the ship.

Here as well, i'll prod Meng and see where he is...

EDIT: Ah HA!!! He had a busy holiday weekend and didn't get a chance to address his post in the IC thread. He said he will be working on it this evening.

I was hoping the delay for Easter would give everybody time to let me know what's up or post appropriately in the IC thread. I would rather not just assume everybody is ready, it feels too much like railroading the RP. Though I don't want it to fade out either so if I don't hear from everybody by Wednesday I'll go ahead with the shuttle boarding. This should give everybody about a day and a half to post here, or in the IC thread, or to PM me.

On a lighter note, you'll be meeting Anya Revkya the ship's helmsbeing at the shuttle since she'll be piloting it out to the ship.

Alright, I edited my last post on the IC thread to change it to an actual IC post. Feel free to begin arriving at the Hangar. If there's another lull in posts I'll probably just push things along to the ship itself.

I'd like to point out that Sepforus is the Starfish xeno, and doesn't actually have a gender. It chooses to use the masculine pronoun because it identifies with males in it's personality and general tendencies.

And a Link to the latest IC post: The Empire of Man (IC)

I'll try to put something up in the next day or so. Having a hard time concentrating on writing due to RL issues at the moment.

Name: Slim. The crew gave him the nickname, a pun on Slime. His actual name is virtually unpronounceable, and sounds like a very juicy belch.

Race: Carbosilicate Amorph. Amorphs resemble massive lumps of grey-green putty, and bear similarities to single-celled organisms. They have no specialized organs other than their eyes, using their entire body mass as muscle, skin, digestive organs, and brain tissue. A typical amorph weighs about 300 pounds, but can vary widely depending on the available food supplies.

As their name suggests, they are completely amorphous, and can sprout extra limbs as needed, though they lack the balance needed for bipedal movement. Instead, they 'slither,' and develope their own means of rapid locomotion based on size, terrain, and whim. Some throw themselves along on pseudopods, while others adopt a kind of rolling motion. The same amorphous nature that dictates their unusual methods of locomotion render them immune to most physical injuries. Amorphs can reassimilate after being splattered across the walls, and can survive being diced, though their eyes may not survive the process. Regenerating an eye takes several weeks, and is generally considered a nuisance. The only reliable ways to hurt an amorph are with high-energy weapons, such as plasma, fire or laser weaponry, in which case the burned tissue is completely lost. Electricity-based weapons cause massive convulsions and can immobilize an amorph for hours afterward as they rebuild their microscopic structures. Most amorphs are extremely cautious around high temperatures and other sources of potential harm, and many are outright phobic. Explosive decompression renders them unconscious, but can take days or weeks to actually kill them. Low temperatures cause them to solidify, and temperatures below -15 C will render them nearly immobile.

They have conscious control over their body chemistry, and their traditional form of combat is to lump together and pit their immune/digestive systems against each other in an attempt to absorb their opponant. Given this metabolic control, the only toxins likely to harm them are those that are either obscenely powerful or tailor-made to affect them. Memories can be physically passed around by trading pieces of body mass, leading to a very strange culture.

Age & Appearance: Given the method of Amorph reproduction (asexual fission), age is more or less meaningless, but he split from his parent/sibling/whatever twelve years ago. Slim has been eating well, and weighs in at roughly 350 pounds. He has been intentionally eating non-organic green dye in order to change his hue, and is now more of a combat-fatigue green than the original grey-green.

Home World: Amorphs are native to the Ghanj-Rho system, but Slim's predeccesor was aboard the merchant vessel Eatan Run when he/she divided. Slim's sibling is currently employed by Acquisitions Incorporated, a transport/smuggling/bounty hunter outfit operating out of the Alpha Centauri system. They trade Asexual Fission Day cards every year.

Gender: None, though Slim self-identifies as male.

Personality: Most amorphs have a skewed view of violence. Their society is one where murder is virtually impossible, because the only means for an amorph to kill another amorph is by eating them, in which case the memories, thoughts, etc, are passed to the survivor, effectively granting the 'deceased' a kind of afterlife. Slim has applied this to other species as well and has few, if any, qualms over violence. He is enthusiastic about his job, and has shown a genuine love of heavy weaponry.

Specialty: Slim is well-suited to the role of heavy infantry, and often fills the role, but the abilities granted to him by his physical traits have earned him a role as Special Forces. The ability to slither unseen through air ducts and whirling fans, only to appear inside the enemy HQ and devour someone has proven useful before. His inability to wear a shield generator or armor because of his lack of a solid body structure is offset by his natural resilliance. He once tried eating a shield belt, but a quick test showed that the projector couldn't detect projectiles through his body mass, rendering it pointless. Besides, it tasted like crap.

Secondary Skills: Slim can identify most chemicals by taste, though he doesn't always know the common name for whatever he's nibbling. The same accuracy applies to his sense of smell, which is good enough to identify individuals he has met before. Unfortunately, he lacks the directional accuracy to track people by smell. He can also store things inside his body mass to hide them, provided they aren't delicious. He lacks the self control to keep from eating food hidden inside him.

Time With the Mercs: 10 years

Weapon of Choice: In close combat, Slim relies almost entirely on his natural weapons, namely the ability to mold fifty-pound fists and smash people to blood and bits or simply eat them whole. He recently acquired a portable fusion cutter designed for cutting armor plates to patrch holes in vehicles for field repairs. After successfully using it to carve a hole in an enemy armored transport and engaging the occupants in hand-to-pseudopod combat, he takes it everywhere. The cutter is about the size of a pistol, though the 'barrel' is noticeably shorter..

On the rare occasions that ranged combat is a viable option, he uses a heavily modified chemical sprayer. Originally designed for applying corrosion preventative compounds to ship hulls, the tank and interior tubing has been heavily reinforced, and the vaporizer tip has been rigged for easy removal and replacement. Typically, he loads it with cryogenic chemicals. Two seperate tanks carry chemicals that drop to -270 C when mixed, resulting in considerable tissue damage as ice crystals rip cell walls apart like a ziploc baggie filled with steak knives. The end result of the chemicals and modifications to the weapon is a gun that looks like a very bulky carbine with a backpack attached via a coule of flexible tubes, and a spray nozzel which spews a vapor close to absolute zero in a narrow cone about twenty feet long. If needed, it can be loaded with tear gas, flammable chemicals, and anything else that can be distributed as a fine mist or a gas.

Other Stuff: Slim is crafty, but not smart, and manages to get by on being a devious bastard. His morals are questionable, though his loyalty is not. On several occasions, he's risked death to drag teammates out of danger. In the not-too-distant past, he tried to rush past an enemy armed with a flamethrower in order to get a medical kit to an injured squad member. The resulting blaze reduced him from his normal 350 pounds to 40, rendering him catatonic for several months as the company medic force-fed him back up to his original mass.
