The end is near ( )

Postby Omnistrife on Fri Jun 20, 2008 5:46 am

Has anyone noticed the Year is going to end every other year?
I mean, 2000, 2004, 2006, and soon 2012 the world is supposed to end. Really, why do we always get so worked up?

"We?" Who's "we?" I'm certainly not part of this supposed "we" you're talking about.

But then again, if the world ends, does that mean I don't have to clean my house?

Anyway, shouldn't this be in the "Discussion & Debate" forum?

Until the world actually ends, I won't believe it. Frankly, there's no actual glyphs in Mayan that say the world is going to end in 2012, despite popular belief. The Calendar just ends in 2012, in which point it was probably going to be revised, but they don't exist anymore.

Y2K never actually happened. People believed the Computers were actually dumb enough to think that "2000" didn't come after "1999," when a computer can count up that high in the first place. No planes crashed because the computer thought it was 70 years older than it was, no computer networks said Ms. Morgan Wright born in 1970 was 70 years older than she actually was. It was paranoia because 90% of the population on this planet are damn idiots.

The world has ended every year since organized religion. Untill zombies and/aliens invade, magnitude 20 earthquakes, or hell freezes over, we'll all be fine.

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök (Old Norse "Final destiny of the gods") refers to a series of major events, including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Freyr, Heimdall, and the jötunn Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterwards, the world resurfaces anew and fertile, the surviving gods meet, and the world is repopulated by two human survivors.

Well, even Christianity suggests that there will be war (enough to fill an entire valley with blood deep enough to come to the shoulders of a horse! (Rev 14:19-20) when the time comes - but Christianity also suggests that there will be "one thousand years of peace" after that.

Rev 20:1-3 NIV wrote:And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations any more until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

Poster's note: The word Satan was not used until the canonization of the Bible by King James many years after the original text was written. When reading the Bible, always go check the original and look at as many different translations as possible.

Actually, there was a need to update certain older computers so that they could cope with the year 2000. I doubt it would've been the catastrophe the media made it seem like, but there was actually a problem.

Yaaay.

I suppose where you stand in te whole 'Its the end of the world!' debate is basically based upon your beliefs. If you're a christian, like me, than yes, you most likely will believe in the Rapture, described pretty well earlier by Remaeus. Basically The Rapture is when the Anti-Christ come to earth, and than so does Jesus. Though it is a seven year period. The first 3 and one half years are very peacefull, and many will suspect noting will happen. But the second three and one half years are full of destruction, killing, etc. Anyway, if you really want to know how it's going to happen, than just read the book of Revelation in the bible.

Also, as said in the bible, no one actually knows when it is going to happen, though there will be signs. One is listed below, and the sign is obvious at that.

Well, one sign is the sun shall turn black and the moon to blood.
They've finally come up with the perfect office computer. If it makes a mistake, it blames another computer.

People have been predicting the end of the world from the begining of the world.

Why it would run out in 2012...the next date some people believe because the maya calendar (which is very good) runs out.

If there was every going to be a time to predict the end of the world the Bubonic plauge that killed somewhere around a 1/3 (estimates vary) of Europe would have been ideal....not because a calendar runs out.
