As you lay back down on the floor, the light overhead brightens insistently. It seems that--wherever you are--it's no longer time for resting. You get gingerly to your feet, trying to ignore your headache. There's not much to do in this empty room, though.

Suddenly, one wall slides upward, revealing an opening in your compartment. When you walk forward, you find yourself in an identical room, except for the four foot tall cylinder in the center. It is about one foot in diameter and seems to be made of he same pearescent material as the rest of the room. On top of it, however, rest two small bars, each about one inch square and six inches long. One is red; one is blue. You don’t remember the last time you ate, but these bars appear to be edible.

Copper rubbed his arms gingerly and looked around. Where was he? What was this place? He looked at the cylinder and tilted his head to side. He saw the bars and debated. His stomach growled and he touched his stomach. Should he go and get one of the bars? He walked toward it and touched the cylinder, wondring if it was safe. It felt cool to the touch and it didn't move. It was a taller than him, which meant he would have to climb. He looked around again uncertain. His stomach however, would not be ignored.

He climbed up and looked at the bars. He almost slipped off, but he clung to it. He reached out and grabbed the blue on since that was the one closes to him. He clung to the cylinder and examined the bar. He sniffed it and felt its tecture. After he was convinced that he could eat it, he put it up to his lips and nibbled on it while he looked around. Why was he here? Who was he anyway?

Saturday looked around, not know where she was, who she was or anything else that might have been of brief importance. she stood up, dizzy, then she saw a strange cylinder thing with a red bar and a blue bar, she almost ran to them and examinded them for a little less than a second, she also couldnt remember the last time she ate, but she was hungry. she took the red one quickly and examined it more, this time for a little over a second, she went back to the original room and sat on the floor, starting to nibble the food.

At the corner of the room, Young Lin's stomach grumbled as she hid her face behind her knees. "Where am I?... What is going on here?...", she sniffed, "I want to go home...", such thoughts ran through her mind constantly even when she couldn't recall where her home was or if she had any in the first place. About to stand to search around the walls in hopes of finding a button or some secret compartment, as was her daily routine, she quickly returned to her crouched position, startled as one of the adjacent walls slid upwards. Afraid that something might come out of there, she remained still for a while before slowly getting back up on her feet. Ignoring the persistent throbs in her head, she cautiously approached the new room.

Relieved and at the same time, disheartened to find herself alone yet again in the new area, she approached the cylinder that was slightly taller than her. She was weary of the cylinder at first, but when her eyes caught a slight glimpse of the bars, she quickly stood on her toes and reached around the top, hoping at the very least that it was food. After a few seconds of frantic reaching, she felt the tip of one of the bars at her fingertips and quickly slid it off the cylinder. It was a red bar. She was unsure what this light object was and at first glance believing it to be a weapon, bashed it against the cylinder. It broke into two.Puzzled, she took the pieces and started sniffing it and it was not long before she stuck her tongue out and licked it. It wasn't the tastiest of all food, but her stomach said otherwise. Quickly gobbling up the bar and licked her fingers clean, she reached out for the other bar in hopes of having another meal, but to no avail. She was just too short. Tired, she sat back and leaned back against the cylinder with her face tucked behind her knees. "Where am I?... What is going on here?..." She sniffed, "I want to go home..."

Coming back to consciousness was difficult for Gray. It was like resurfacing from water when one got the bends, though she wouldn't know that. Every time she'd come close to waking up the dull throbbing at the forefront of her head would push her back into sleep. Gray couldn't be certain what increment of time this had lasted for but the pattern of waking only to fall back to sleep continued for quite a while leaving minimal room for dreaming. Still, the process couldn't last forever. Despite the headache that chewed at her brain Gray's eyes did indeed flutter open. At the sight of the bright light above her Gray inhaled sharply and shielded her eyes.

All in all, it was a rude way to be awakened when one had a migraine that could take down an elephant. Turning herself over on her stomach Gray opened her eyes once more. The room was much easier to look at when there wasn't a garishly bright light shining in your eyes. In a horse like fashion Gray blew up a loose strand of hair so it floated up and out of her face. She wasn't sure where she was, or how she'd gotten there. Then again, she wasn't sure where she was before she'd been taken to where she was at. So, the act of not knowing where she was located was a bit of a moot point considering she could have likely been there her whole life and didn't remember.

Somehow that tangent of though sounded wrong to Gray.

No, she certainly was elsewhere before she'd been brought to the room she was in. Speaking of that, the room she was in certainly was odd. Gray wasn't sure what made the room so peculiar to her but her gut told her that there was something off about the place. Pushing herself to her knees Gray's dark eyes began to survey the room. For the most part there was nothing, with no distinguishable difference save for a metallic plaque in the center of one wall. Gray had almost dismissed there being a difference from any of the other walls, but something got her attention. One wall of the other three nearly identical walls was slightly different when Gray scooted closer to it. There was a very thin line around it's edges and when gray put her hand near the bottom she could feel the tiniest bit of temperature difference. What was it? A door? A window? Gray titled her head to one side and furrowed her brow. Her train of thought was soon broken by a large rumbling sensation in her abdomen.

Hunger.

She gripped her stomach in a self conscious manner and grimaced. Gray was hungry, very hungry. Oddly enough, as if to cater her needs though Gray was almost positive this wasn't the case, the peculiar wall opened up. The initial action made her jump a little, and she leaned back slightly as she eyed the next room curiously. The room wasn't unlike the one she was currently in, but had some sort of contraption in the center. Gray cautiously stood up and walked to the door. Her then fingers pressed against the side of opening, where the door would have been. Slowly she walked to the cylinder at the middle of the room.

Like a vulture Gray circled the machine, curiously eying the substances that lie inside. They looked like batteries to her, and she wasn't sure if they were safe to touch. Still, she wouldn't know unless she tried. Reaching out a hand Gray was relieved to find that she wasn't electrically shocked or burned when she touched the blue bar. It was somewhat soft, though not immensely so. She held the bar up to eye level and gave it an inquisitive gaze, she then sniffed it. It smelled bittersweet, like a hard candy. Biting into she found that it tasted bitter sweet too. She didn't mind, though that wasn't particularly what she'd wanted to place in her mouth after being as hungry as she was.

Upon biting into the other bar, she'd found it to be quite salty. Gray wasn't sure which taste she'd preferred, or why the bars tasted such a way. Still, something was better than nothing and the teen gratefully downed both bars in a matter of minutes. Both bars had left a sticky residue on her fingers. As she licked the blue and red mess off of her hands Gray examined the room she was in, sticking her foot near the bottom of walls to see if she could find another door.

Thought opened his eyes as the dim lights from the ceiling grew brighter. These "days" he figured to be about 12 hours long, the same as the "nights". The dull throbbing in his neck got slightly less painful each day, but hardly enough to notice the difference if you weren't looking for it. He stared at the plaque on the center of the wall he was facing. It said "3641-DI/30". His identification number, no doubt. He wished he could remember his actual name.
He sighed and picked himself up from his lying position on the floor and calmly watched one of the walls slide upwards, nothing surprised him anymore. The opening led to another room that might as well have been the same one, except for two bars that were sitting on top of a cylinder in the center of the room. He warily walked forward and looked around for any other difference he might have missed. There was none.
Thought approached the bars, which appeared to be edible. He picked up the blue one and examined it, despite the growl of his stomach, then did the same for the red one. They had no odor, a dry texture, and he found they had a bitter taste when he licked the ends of them, although the blue one tasted a little coppery while the red one tasted more like an aspirin. He broke them open and searched for any type of pill that might be hidden within them, but they were clean.
Finally allowing his hunger to win over he sat on the floor in front of the cylinder and quickly ate the red one first, then the blue one. Once finished, he leaned against the cylinder, still sitting, and took slow deep breaths. I need to get out of this place...

Where was she? Who was she? What was she doing here? So many questions floated in the young girl's mind, knowing well enough that they wouldn't be answered any time soon. Night shivered, rubbing her arms as she looked around the the large room. It was white, nothing more, nothing less. Slowly, she stood up, a little wobbly. The pain in the back of her neck was immense, almost enough to knock her down right now. Good for her, she went through that stage already. All she needed to do now was to focus on anything she could find, anything different at least. She heard a huge rumble behind her, and she spun around quickly. Sadly, the pain worsened even more when she did that, which caused her to double over in pain. She gripped the back of her neck, the searing pain slowly going back to normal. Well, at least she knew now that she shouldn't react so quickly.

Looking up, Night stared at the wall as it moved, giving her a passage way to another room. It was the same plain white, except for the two bars in the center, blue and red. It seemed her skin almost matched her surroundings, but her hair and eyes stood out very much. She looked down at herself, seeing that she had shorts and a shirt on. Nothing else. She felt cold for some reason, a nauseating feeling coming over her. Somehow, she felt as though this wasn't exactly normal. She didn't know if that was good or bad.

She had a huge headache, and it didn't seem like it would heal yet. Still, she managed to ignore it as she made her way to the cylinder, her stomach seemed more important as of now. She circled the cylinder a couple of times, doubting whether or not she should even touch it. She might as well do something, not like she had any other choice. She hesitantly reached out, touching the blue bar. It felt cold under her skin, but nothing happened. Picking it up, she observed it, turning it around and waving it in the air. It seemed safe she guessed, so she licked it. She blinked, surprised that it tasted good. But with her stomach growling so loudly and not even remembering the last time she ate, she guessed even dirt would taste really good right now, she really couldn't tell the difference. She bit off a good portion of the bar, finishing it quickly as she moved to the red bar. All the while though, she looked around the area. Where was the exit?

Quiet. That's what the room was right now. Quiet. Peaceful. Even with the throbbing of his head, he couldn't help but find a measure of peace, or some semblance thereof. Ironic though, that the room was stark white, a blank slate, much like the passages of his memories. Shade had been trying to remember something, some small little thing that mean he had lived a life, an existence previous to now. There was nothing. He couldn't recall anything beyond waking up here, and the pain. It was a dull aching sensation now, but the agony had been of nearly epic proportions when he first returned to the land of the living. No, wait. This wasn't living. He merely existed, and he suddenly feared this would become his day to day routine.

For lack of anything to call himself, he named himself Shade. There was a small bit of a shadow, created by his body, cast down upon the barren floor while the lights blared overhead. A stark contrast to the nothing that had been surrounding him, the shadow was something and he wanted to be something. By taking on the name Shade, maybe he would be. At the moment, he felt as blank as the walls in the room. Anything would be better than a blank being.

Wait, a change. The intensity of the lighting seemed to pulse, and his heart beat nearly matched its rhythm. There was nowhere to hide from the steadily increasing glare, but a sound broke through, scratching roughly at his senses like sandpaper. Shade turned his head in time to see one of the walls lifting upward until it disappeared into the ceiling revealing another room. It didn’t vary from the first room, except for the cylinder in the middle of the floor. A cylinder with color standing against the blizzard of nothing.

Shade shuffled toward the opening separating the two rooms, dark eyes glancing upward to where the wall once was. If it was going to slam back down without warning, he wanted to see it coming. He expected it, or maybe just some difference between the rooms other than what his eyes beheld, but there was none. The temperature appeared to be the same, there were no extra odors, nothing his senses could pick apart and dissect. The colors beckoned him closer, silent and still, Shade had a difficult time trying to take his eyes away from the red and blue.

Once past the threshold, he found himself standing next to the pillar before it registered in his head. Fingers of his right hand drifted across the objects, his touch light, measuring. The texture was different from the cool table, it yielded to the pressure he applied against the top of the bar. Shade cast another glance through the room and the opening between the two. These were here for a reason, whether it was wise or not to indulge that reason, well, that would be discovered shortly.

He picked up both bars, the blue in his right, red in the left. With his thumb held against one side of the blue, the bar was lifted and held to his nose. No smell, but something told him it was edible. Call it instinct, sixth sense, lack of anything else to focus on, maybe a little of all three. As he backed away from the pillar, he took a small bite from the blue, the red held fast in his left palm. Shade wasn’t surprised that it held no taste. Everything in this place seemed to be as bland and blank as he felt inside. Perhaps that was just his own sense of nothing coloring his perspective, his taste, his smell. Maybe these things did actually exist, only he failed to register them.

Didn’t matter, it was edible and his stomach contracted with hunger. He tried to make the blue bar last, chewed each bite ten times with one to grow on. All too soon, it was gone. Eaten out of existence. He had a choice. Did he consume the red bar as well? Not knowing when he’d have something more to eat, much less if the blue bar had side effects that had yet to show themselves? Or should he hold fast to the red, saving it, hording it for later? Would there be a later? Too many questions ran through his head, making the pain at the base of his skull more acute.

Dark eyes looked down at the red, now balled like clay in his left palm. He held this protectively against his chest as he stood near the opened wall. It would make more sense to remain in the room that provided the food, if that’s what they were. The other room held nothing but a table, and a plaque on the wall. Shade remained on the side with the pillar, the red and blue room, as it was now noted in his mind. He didn’t know where he was, what was going on, or what he could expect next. He did at least have an identity, even if self-given.

He was Shade.

Satuday was all alone, except for the walls, the floor and the extra blue bar. she wondered if it was like a test, 'how long can you take madness, before it takes you?'. she shuddered at the thought of anyone being so cruel, she looked around the room, or tried to at least, she could barely see a foot in front of her, she needed to see, and at that moment she barely could, she started humming a strange tune, she didnt know what it was, just a tune, she presumed, maybe it was something of her past life, a fovorite song, maybe? she sat in the original room and nibbled little by little at the blue bar, just as she did with the red one, eat as little as possible and it will last longer. her stomache begged her to just gobble it up, in the end she bowed to the dull throbbing of her head, the aching of her barely working eyes, and the sharpness of her empy stomache, she ate the second half of the blue bar in one bite.

Though small, these bars seem rather fulfilling, at least for now. After finishing with the colored bars, however, there is nothing left to do in the room with the pedestal. Indeed, once ignored, any bar remaining on the pedestal seems to sink below its surface, no longer reachable.

The light in the pedestal-chamber fades to blackness, leaving only your original compartment lit. If you try to remain alone in the dark, you may find yourself getting a prod in the right direction as nothing but the floor itself offers a tiny electrical shock. Whether you enter cooperatively or not, the door to your cell slides shut as you return. Then the light here too dims to about half its original intensity. Apparently, it is time to rest once again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After what you assume to be several hours, the light overhead brightens insistently. It seems that rest period is over.

Suddenly, one wall slides upward, revealing an opening in your compartment. When you walk forward, you find yourself in an identical room, except for the three-foot-tall cylinder in the center. It is about eighteen inches in diameter and seems to be made of he same pearlescent material as the rest of the room. On top of it, however, rest some small colored bars, the same dimensions as the previous ones.

[OOC: for presenting character specific settings, I’ll just go straight down my list, which is in order of who joined. Do you remember you number?]
Specimen 96: Your pedestal presents a red bar and a purple bar.
Specimen 27: Your pedestal presents a red bar, a blue bar, and a purple bar.
Specimen 41: Your pedestal presents a red bar, a blue bar, and a purple bar.
Specimen 85: Your pedestal presents a red bar, a blue bar, and a purple bar.
Specimen 30: Your pedestal presents a red bar, a blue bar, and a purple bar.
Specimen 71: Your pedestal presents only a purple bar.
Specimen 26: Your pedestal presents a blue bar and a purple bar.

Although the red and blue bars are identical to the previous, and rather bland-tasting, the purple—should you choose it—is new: sweet, but slightly tart. To your (fill-in-the-blank reaction), once any two bars are removed from the pedestal, the third sinks beneath its surface, still visible three inches within, but clouded as though frozen inside the pedestal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[P.S.: Damien: Why does five-foot-eight Copper have to climb on top of a four-foot pedestal to see what’s on top? Everyone else: I shortened the pedestal, in case you didn’t notice. Please also note that this is a different room than last time; the bars from before (if any) are not still within the pedestal. Each "session" presents a different room, despite how identical they may seem. (Damien: no need for edit if you don’t want.) Finally, let me know if this is too much for the characters to react to in one post.]

((My bad. I didn't take in account of the size! I must have forgotten while I was posting.))

One the lights had dimmed in the second room Copper remained where he was a while, starring at the frozen bar inside the pedestal. He tapped the pedestal and tried to figure out how the bar had gone into it. Suddenly he was shocked and he jumped back a little more than surprised. He was shocked until he reached his room again were the lights had dimmed as well. The door closed behind him confining him to his room again. He sat down on his bed but didn't fall asleep. Why was he here? Would he ever be able to leave? He didn't want to stay here forever. With an inward sigh he lay down and closed his eyes. He wasn't sleepy, but he thought he had better sleep just in case he would later need it.

When the lights had turned back on and the door slid open, he sat up again. What would he find in there today? He walked into the second room and looked at the pedestal which was now shorter. There was a red bar and a purple bar there this time. He looked at the two bars and debated which one to take. Were they just as bland as the one he had eaten the day before? He reached out and took the red one. For some reason, he didn't like the color purple. He licked the red bar and sighed. It was still bland. He sat down where he was and nibbled at it. He wasn't too hungry. Once he finished eating the bar he stared at the othe red bar that was stuck inside the pedestal. He tapped at it wondering. It seemed solid enough. He peered over the top of it and saw nothing that would have opened to allow entry. He then watched the purple bar, sure it would also sink into it and wanted to see how it did.

After a certain degree of time, the lights within the room dimmed. Gray heaved a sigh and stared up at the ceiling. It would appear she'd probably have to go back to sleep, that seemed to be the pattern that was happening. However, Gray didn't lay down. Instead she paced about the room, ducking down to the floor to feel a draft. Just like the last room, the draft was hardly noticeable. Gray realized that her hands, wet with saliva, aided her in feeling the breeze. It was notably colder when moisture was present. After a minute or so of searching, she'd found the door.

While she knew getting out was probably a futile and fruitless effort, the ability to spot her way out filled Gray with a smug sense of accomplishment. A small smirk crossed her lips and she seated herself in front of the door. A hand reached out to touch the pearly surface. It felt, solid, there wasn't much more to it. However, something about it also didn't feel right. Gray wasn't sure wanted to keep her hand on the foreign plane any longer, and thus removed it. For one last time she looked around, the room hadn't changed. With a small groan Gray laid her head down on the floor, curling up slightly for warmth.

Gray was, once again, rudely awoken by the ever irksome bright lights above her. With a scowl she pushed herself up and let out a small yawn. As Gray had anticipated the door in front of her opened up to reveal another room. Much to Gray's disappointment the room looked almost exactly the same as the one she was currently situated in. Using her right hand Gray pushed herself up into a standing position. More confidently Gray walked into the other room though that didn't mean she still wasn't somewhat apprehensive of what may happen in the new room.

A cylinder, identical to the one in the next room, was located in the center of the floor. Gray circled this contraption to. If it truly was the same as the previous pedestal, it would provide her with some kind of sustenance. Gray chewed on her lower lip, a habit back from when she was younger though she wouldn't be able to recall such details. She walked closer to the pedestal, and peered at it's contents. Yes, things were almost exactly like how they had been earlier save for one exception.

Sitting in the pedestal was a new, for lack of better word, food. Gray, however, wasn't too keen on trusting this new object. For all she knew it could be dangerous. Sure, the other two cylinders weren't detrimental to her health. On the other hand, she could be sure of that. If they were indeed poisoned the substance may not have taken effect as of yet. What if the other bars, when mixed, created a deadly poison? What if the purple one was the antidote? The paranoia eventually got to Gray and she took the purple bar.

Admittedly, Gray wasn't all that hungry. She'd merely taken the purple bar because of her paranoid mental ramblings. Holding the bar up to her face she gave it a quick bite to discover that it had a pleasant taste. Gray licked her lips and raised her eyebrows. It was indeed better than the other two she'd tasted. She couldn't help but wonder if one of the other bars had changed taste, or if color played a key factor in taste.

When the brunette removed the blue bar from the pedestal, the red one sank below. The sinking of the red bar didn't surprise Gray, she'd seen the bars raise up so it only made sense that the process could be reversed. However, she was curious about how the bar just sank into the pedestal. If common sense served her right Gray was certain that wherever it was that she came from things didn't just sink into seemingly solid surfaces.

It was at this point that something in her mind told her she wanted something. Gray seemed confused by the sudden longing and chewed on her lip a bit more. The teen's fingers went to her lips unconsciously and she looked to the bars. Was she hungry? Gray brought the blue bar to her lips and chewed. Upon the substance traveling down to her stomach Gray concluded that she wasn't hungry. Or, at least not for the blue bar. She repeated her actions with the purple bar, which Gray had decieded tasted much better. However, this didn't stop the feeling that ate away at the back of her mind either.

With a small grunt Gray sat back down, a thin finger twisting at her hair. Aside from the nagging feeling she had, Gray also felt something else. She felt alone. When she shut her eyes and thought hard enough Gray could recall a street full of other people and the incoherent chatter one would expect from a busy city street. Be that as it may, the memory was vague and shattered. Envisioning it was like trying to look at on old photo through a layer or two of plastic wrap.

The two bars were indeed filling, but they weren't enough to make her satisfied. It didn't matter though, at least she had something to eat. Right now, she was actually waiting for something to happen. Something as in whatever she ate affecting her, those bars were indeed suspicious. She leaned against the cylinder, wondering what might happen next. This place was pretty boring, there was nothing to do. Why was she here anyways? Well, she couldn't remember anything so her memory did no help.

Her memory, there was something wrong with it. She was sure that she was alive for a good portion of her life, so she must have had some memories. She sighed, it was simple. They erased her memory, that's probably it. She didn't know why they needed to do such a task, not like it would do something anyways. The thought of not knowing how long she lived or what she did in her life frightened her actually, who knows what happened? She stopped thinking about it, taking in a deep breath. No, she shouldn't think of things like that. Panicking only made things worse, and she couldn't go mad yet.

Night looked up, seeing the room slowly grow darker. It was pitch black now in the room she was in, but it was bright as ever at the other room. She blinked slowly, looking around. Nothing else happened, so it must have meant that she needed to move back to her original room. She really hated the bright room, but she guessed she had no other choice, the darkness wasn't safe for all she knew. She began walking back slowly, relaxed but still alert. She didn't want to make any sudden movements. A spark of pain made her gasp, jumping away from the place she stood. It seemed like these things wanted to get this over with. She walked faster, glaring at nothing in particular. They should really give her some time, she was clueless, not her fault.

She made her way to the room, standing in the middle as she stared back at where she came from. She looked up, seeing the wall close once more. But she observed it very closely this time, trying to figure out any glitches or problems. The wall closed silently, and she sighed. She couldn't find anything wrong with it. She didn't even have anything with her to maybe stop the wall from closing. She could have used those bars, but she highly doubted that they would do any good. They were just bars of something, and they broke too easily.

The room she was in dimmed slightly, but didn't go pitch black like the other did. She was glad that it wasn't a blinding white anymore. She sat down, falling on her back as she stared up at the white roof. This wasn't interesting at all, it was just boring. The pain in the back of her neck wasn't that strong anymore, but still hurt none the less. Maybe sleeping would do the trick.

She groaned as she rolled over, the blinding light coming back again. Nap time was over, pity. She blinked away the sleep in her eyes as she yawned, looking up at the room. Nothing changed, obviously. Once again, the wall slid upward, giving her another entrance to another room. She gave up on trying to discover a weakness, there really wasn't one. Getting up, she walked over to the other room, seeing a cylinder. She blinked though, seeing three bars. She narrowed her eyes, feeling as if she saw them somewhere before. Even the cylinder, she saw it somewhere before, but she couldn't remember. Shrugging, she picked up the blue bar, no need fretting on something that wasn't important. She observed the blue bar, somehow having a feeling that she should eat it. Well, she guessed she should take a bite, she didn't really care anymore about anything.

The taste wasn't very welcome, but she ate it anyways. Better then anything else, who knows how long it will be until she gets to eat again? She picked up the purple bar, somehow not sensing anything familiar with it like the blue and red bar. She licked it though, tasting a very sweet but tart taste. It was better then the blue one, for sure. She blinked, watching the red bar disappear beneath the cylinder. She leaned down, wondering how in the world it that. She knocked on the top, it was solid, so how did it go through? It couldn't be real, but it was of course real.

She didn't let her eyes avert from the cylinder as she nibbled on the bar. This made her wonder about many things, but she didn't focus on anything. Why? Simple. If she wanted to know everything, she would go mad. So, she needed to ignore anything that seemed weird or thought provoking, she couldn't risk wandering into a mind full of thoughts that has no answers to.

Saturday paced the room for a long time, she didnt know exactly how long, but she did. she walked back to the other room, examining the cylinder, or as much as she could with her failing vision and just as she walked in it got darker, and darker, and darker, soon the only thing she could see was the bright light of her original room. Saturday just stood there, unsure of what to do. she could sit it out in the dark, see if she could somehow challenge 'them' the people that kept her in this prison, or she could go in the safety of the light. "ow, ow ow!" she yelled as a shock went up her foot, she raised her foot, the other recived a shock, she fell to the floor. "well this is going to be harder than I thought" she mumbled, then a shock was registered at every part of skin touching the floor, a shock was sent out about every four second, if she timed it she could run to the other room with out anymore shocks, she ran, and got a little shock as she leftand burst into her original room. "painful" she muttered, dropping to the ground, exhausted from the shocks. she stood back up and started pacing again, she thought, and thought, and thought, she couldn't remember anything. by the end and she finally gave up she was running around the room, she stopped when she wasnt paying attention and ran into one of the walls, Saturday was smart but she just didnt use knowledge, she did nearly whatever she wanted. she fell on the floor after she ran into the wall and that room dimmed, she thought it was time to sleep, she tried but she just couldnt, and after hours the room got brighter again, another door opened, she went in the other room, this time there were three bars, a or blurs to Saturday. there was a red a purple and a blue. she picked up two of them, the blue and the purple. the red one sank and Saturday tried to grab for it, the more food the better off she was, the hand she tried to grab for it and her fingers got stuck somehow in the cylinder. "oh god! what the heck? erg! help!" she called out, her fingers were stuck, she didnt know how, they just were, she knew that no one would help but she started calling out, she dropped the blue and purple bars to the floor, her hand was stuck and she couldnt find anything to do about it. she struggled and pulled, but no result. she sat down at an akward angle and got the purple bar, being that she already ate a blue one, she thought it would taste the same as the original time and the red one being stuck along with her hand, she ate it quickly, a good taste, a little tart, but okay. and she sat. she just sat, her fingers stuck in the strange cylinder.

(Once I get a number, I'll post for the second test. Until then, here's an opening post for Silence.)

Silence. The whole room was filled with silence. And white walls. But mostly silence. And white walls. Too white. Something had to be done about the whiteness. Ooowww... Okay, first came the head pain, then the blinding whiteness. Sitting up slowly, the blak-haired teen gently rubbed the back of his head before glancing around the room in an attempt to find out what had given him the killer head-ache. Finding nothing, he brushed it aside and slowly brought himself to his feet.

Quickly shading his eyes, he looked around the empty room and made a mental note to go look for the other inhabitants. A mental note which was forgotten approximately 1.5 seconds later when he tripped over his feet which led to his face getting very acquainted with the floor. Not the most comfortable thing in the world but at least the floor was padded. Gotta be careful. This place is hazardous.

Bringing himself back to his feet, the teen noticed a plaque on the wall. He approached slowly and examined it carefully. Gripping the sides gently but firmly, he gave a hard yank and found himself flying backwards as his hands slipped off the edges of the plaque. Okay, so that wasn't moving any time soon. For a moment he remained bent over with his back arched over the ground, his head and feet planted firmly on the floor, and his hands still stretched out before him. And then he pushed himself up and looked at what was written on said plaque. Numbers? Who the heck would put numbers on this thing? And why won't it come off?! Several more minutes were spent trying to get the pesky plaque off the wall before he finally gave up and seated himself before the shining metal.

For a moment there was silence and then he said, quite bluntly, "Stupid." It was directed at the unmoving plaque and it was quite apparent by the way he watched it that he expected some sort of reaction. Needless to say, he got none. This only led to irritation and he began shouting, "Stupid! Idiot! Moron! Get off the wall!" This led to him again trying several different way to get the object off the wall and every single time led to his defeat.

Finally, out of breath, the teen lay on the floor while staring at the ceiling in an attempt to discover the reason for the object not moving. "I know!" he snapped suddenly, sitting up and almost smacking his head against the plaque. "You little...! You're trying to take over my body so that you can invade some alien planet and take over... waitaminute... That doesn't make any sense. Oh well."

There was a soft hum followed by an even softer click as a panel in the wall slid open. The plaque was forgotten as the boy quickly approached the new doorway to investigate it. He stared hard at the opening, wondering how and why it had appeared where it had. "Seriously, why not the other side of the room? Or maybe... that plaque was a hidden lever and I opened this door! Cool! But seriously, why not next to where I was? Or below me?"

Entering the new room, he quickly rubbed his eyes as he was greeted with more whiteness. And why the boring color scheme? There should be... "...Blues! And yellows, and greens, and oranges! And yellows! Or did I say that already?" 'You said that already.' "Holysnapwhatwasthat?!" Turning around in a complete circle, he found no one else in the room with him. However, he was most definitely sure that he had heard a voice from somewhere nearby.

The voice was pushed away, however, as his attention was captured by the pedestal in the center of the room. First thing he did was touch it. A mental note was made about the way it was soft, much like the rest of the room. Everything is... padded? Why? Maybe it's to keep me hurting myself. This room can be hazardous. Gripping the top of the pedestal, he pulled himself onto his tip-toes to see over the top. All he saw were two colored bars.

"Colors!" The blue bar was snatched immediately and he let himself fall back to the floor. Said bar was finished off quickly and he was about to reach for the second bar when the mysterious voice returned.

'Don't you think you've had enough?'

This time, however, the voice was regarded as natural, as though it had been around all the time. "You know, for a talking shadow, you're kind of funny," he stated, again reaching for the second bar. 'I think you've had enough.' "What are you, my conscience?" 'No'. "Then... am I dead?"

Only silence greeted the teen and the second bar was forgotten as he turned to face his shadow. It was small, not surprising since the light was from directly above. However, he was determined to make it talk again. Why his shadow? He had yet to figure out. Yet it only made sense that his shadow would talk. If it were some person that he had made up, he would surely be considered insane. A talking shadow made much more sense.

"What's your name?" he asked suddenly, crouching down to stare at said shadow. This time, he got an answer. 'What's your name?' "That's not much of an answer, you know. By the way, what is my name?" 'At this point, who knows.' "This room is so quiet... It's like listening to silence." 'Silence... Is that your name?' "It is now."

Jumping up, Silence pointed at the open door and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Ya' hear that, world! My name is Silence and I'm here to... here to... What was I here for?" 'To paint elephants pink with purple polka dots?' "I'M HERE TO PAINT ELEPHANTS PINK WITH PURPLE... Say, what shade of pink and purple am I using, exactly?" 'Lime pink and neon purple?' "Okay!" There was a soft thump as Silence tripped over his feet once more and fell face first on the floor.

Thought's head still rested against the cylinder of the second room as he sat on the floor. Suddenly the room went pitch black, leaving only the first room with light. He stayed still, wondering if anyone would come in to collect the cylinder or something, but then he felt a shock on his feet and butt coming from the floor. He jumped up, startled, and stared at the floor. Another jolt ran through his feet and he realized whoever was in charge wanted him out of this room. He gave an annoyed look at the floor and walked deliberately slowly back into his room, wincing and giving a slight jump whenever another shock came. If they wanted him out, they would have to wait a bit. When he finally reached his room the sliding door fell back down within moments, closing with a slam. He smiled, they were probably mad at him for that. Good. He wasn't gunna be herded around without defiance. The lights dimmed again, so he figured now was a good a time as any to take a nap. The "days" and "nights" were getting more and more varied time-wise. He lied down flat, like he was earlier, and stared at the wall opposite him until sleep finally came.

After a few hours the lights brightened again, forcing Thought to cover his eyes so they could refocus. After a moment the wall that had opened earlier opened again, leading to what looked like the same room as before, except that the cylinder in the middle was shorter. He sighed and wandered forward, noticing that they'd added a third purple bar to the original red and blue one. He eyed the purple one cautiously before picking it up and sniffing it. It had a sweet smell, but other than that it was exactly the same as the other two. Thought took a bite out of it, still feeling a bit hungry from earlier, and discovered that this one actually tasted good. He wondered if the other ones still tasted the same and picked up the red bar with his free hand. As soon as left red bar left the cylinder the blue one started to sink into it. Thought curiously lowered his head to be level with the top of the pedestal and watched as the two solids passed through each other. That was interesting. He tapped on the top of the cylinder, but his hand didn't go through. He stared at the blue bar that had stopped sinking a few inches beneath the surface, wondering if it would come back up again. It didn't. Thought decided that if he ever met the people in charge he would have to study the physics of their materials, they were obviously different than from wherever Thought came from. Pushing those thoughts aside he took a bite out of the red bar he'd grabbed and frowned at its taste. He quickly finished it, wanting to save the best one for last, then slowly ate the purple bar, savoring the sweet but tart taste. He couldn't identify the flavor but he liked it. He sighed disappointedly when it was gone, but then realized that they would probably be feeding him regularly now. That was a small relief. Thought stayed in the new room again instead of going back to his original room and sat on top of the pedestal. He wanted to see what else they would do to get him to go back in there.

Nothing. There was nothing else to do in the room. Shade had looked, he paced along the inside perimeter, examined the pillar, ran fingers along the remaining three walls. Nothing, and then darkness. Only the light from his original room remained, the illumination barely reaching into the black depths of the other compartment. That’s what these things were, he had decided, compartments. It was a notion that crossed his mind before he could even begin to fathom the meaning of it. It fit though, so Shade linked the two together in his head.

The floor crackled briefly, and the jolt traveled up through his feet and spread along the rest of his body. A yelp escaped and he jumped about a foot to the side. There was another mere seconds later, eliciting the same response. “Ok-kay!” His voice actually held a bit of volume to it as he moved swiftly for the opening between the two compartments. Shade was shocked one more time before he managed to cross that threshold, and leave the electrified floor behind. The moment he was clear, the wall returned with the same abrasive sound. Shade flopped down on the floor, rubbing the soles of his feet with vigor. That, while not extremely painful, was definitely discomforting. He could still fill the residual tingles of the electric shocks, and he rubbed until most of the sensation ebbed, even as the light overhead dimmed significantly. Whatever that had been, it was apparently over now.

Was it just a feeding time? Perhaps, it would make sense, but was this place supposed to make sense? Shade looked at the rolled up red bar he had set to the side in favor of soothing his pained feet. He held it in the palm of his hand briefly before letting it rest in the center of the room. The color wasn’t as bright, having been pushed and molded by his grip, still it was a nice change from the surrounding white. He wished he could remember something, or figure out where he was in the very least. Shade wasn’t entirely certain that he cared to try and figure it all out right now. The base of his skull still ached, the pain dulled a great deal, but still he felt the pressure remain. At least that reminded him that he existed. For now. Shade couldn’t help but dwell upon the last thought, for now. It took almost all of his willpower to push it down, in fact, he had to tamper it with physical activity.

His body needed to move, needed to do something in order to distract himself from the wandering thoughts. Thoughts that wouldn’t be beneficial or productive, he suspected. Shade stood up and ran the fingers of both hands through his hair. It felt good. Stimulated the scalp or some such, he wasn’t sure, he just knew that moving felt good. Toes wriggled as he started to walk around the perimeter of his compartment. Shade walked at a brisk pace, arms swinging by his sides. Before long, he felt himself humming, though he didn’t know the tune or melody, but like the walk, it felt like he was doing something. Something was better than nothing. He kept feeling the need to go faster though, faster, quicker, and his legs moved accordingly. Shade began to take longer strides, breaking into a light jog for a few minutes. When that failed to satisfy the craving for more, the pace increased again.

Within ten minutes, Shade was doing an outright run through the small room. Dark hair blew back from his face, eyes bright, he kept his breathing at a slow and steady pace as long as possible. Bare feet thudded across the floor, hands fists at his side, arms pumping as he moved. It felt natural to him, like he’s done it before. Sweet blue, it felt so very good. Shade laughed. A wide grin spread across his face as he ran and laughed. So very good, indeed. After what felt like a long time, Shade couldn’t keep going. He slowed down to a light jog, then walked for another five minutes, letting his breathing and heart beat return to a semblance of normal. It would be another five minutes before Shade laid down on his back in the middle of the room. Dark eyes stared up at the strange ceiling, while one hand rested almost protectively on top of the molded red ball. Didn’t want to lose that.

Time passed and Shade would not be able to fully recall what he did during those hours. That usually meant he had fallen asleep, or dozed. Either way, he felt well rested after his run and he sat up, pulling the leftover red ball into his lap. He should eat again, only he dreaded not knowing when he might be fed next. Was it better to eat and nourish the body now, and starve later? Or was it better to linger in the small pains of hunger that never faded, but enjoy the sensation of eating again? Shade opted for the first thought. He’d rather not ‘endure’, he already existed rather than lived. Part of him said there had to be more than this. He knew there was more. Shade had to believe that this wasn’t all there was, otherwise there would be no real reason to wake, eat, sleep, be. Decision made, he took a bite from the red bar at last, finding it as tasteless as the blue. Food was food, and he wasn’t going to refuse it because it was bland. Of course there was still the question of any side effects. Maybe it wasn’t food, but he had nothing else.

Lights flickered, brightening and glowing with a steady increase in intensity. Shade shielded his face with an arm across the face, and that’s when the sandpaper sound returned. A glance to the side revealed another compartment and another pillar. He wasn’t going to waste time, not if there was more food to be had, to save for later. He quickly pushed himself to his feet, half of the red balled bar remained. Small bites were taken even as he shuffled into the other room. The purple bar was noted for the difference in color, but its meaning escaped him. Shade quickly plucked it from the pillar, finding it to have the same texture as the previous bars. He finished eating the red while eyeing this new bar. Feet padded back through the opening to his original compartment, not caring to deal with electric shocks. Red consumed, Shade settled on the floor and sat the purple down a foot in front of him. He faced the opening and kept watch on the sliding wall, his mind counting silently to see how long it took for the wall to close.

One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three… wait. What’s a Mississippi?

Re: The Experiment [IC] ( )

After resting for a while Young Lin decided to try yet again to reach for the remaining bar. On her toes yet again, she tried feeling around the top of the cylinder but to her surprise instead of feeling a hard and cold solid surface, she felt a somewhat liquid or jelly like texture. Quickly taking a few steps back, she found that the blue bar was missing. "Eh?!", she exclaimed in surprise. Where'd it go? Unless there is someone with me behind the cylinder! She thought excitedly but to her dismay, she found herself all alone. Stumping to the ground, she was about to began her usual Who, What and I wanna chants when she felt a great shock ran up her her toes, knees and spine. Her body pounced up before falling flat on the floor, paralysed for a moment. To an older teenager, a shock such as this would only cause pain to their body. But to a young teenager such as her however, the effects were much more drastic.

As soon as the paralysis effect wore off she gasped for air, as if having swam a whole 50 meter relay without ever breaking the surface for air. Her body trembling, she ever so slowly got up on her hands and knees. Her vission blurred as tears strating to swell up her eyes, more so because of the sudden shock than the pain or the fear of being unable to move, she wailed her heart out. "Waaa! I wanna go Home! I wanna~", the floor zapped her once again, shutting her up as she fall face down to the floor yet again. Not even giving her time to recover, the floor gave her another zapping as her body spasm out of control. It was only after a few series of relentless jolting and Kin's body not moving at all did it finally stop. Opening up her eyes with tears still flowing freely down her cheeks, she slowly crawled towards the only light source, her room.

Once within the safety of her room, she hurled out the remains of the red bar on to the pearl white floor before collapsing beside it, too exhausted to budge or even cry. As if listening to her plea, the lights dimmed allowing her to have some shreds of peace and at last, rest. The headache still remained and occasionally disturbed her sleep, but after experiencing the few jolts, it made it seem nothing more than an irritating mosquito bite.

The bright light easily waking her from her peaceful slumber, she wiped away the dried vomit on her mouth and the crusts from her eyes. About to yawn, she jolted towards the opposite corner of her room when the wall behind her slid up. Can all these walls do that?, she thought to herself looking around her room before cautiously approaching this new area. Making sure not to step on the vomited remains, to her disbelief, she found herself face to face again with a similar looking room if not for the shorter cylinder. On top of it as she had guessed, were two bars but with the red bar this time replaced with a purple. She wanted to ignore the whole thing with the memory of being shocked still fresh from her mind, but her stomach would not allow it. Having eaten nothing with the remains hurled out, she forced herself to enter the room.

After looking around to make sure no one else was around, she dashed towards the pedestal and grabbed the two bars with ease before dashing back to the confinements of her room. Looking back panting, somewhat surprised to find herself returning back unharmed, she sat down with her back against the corner and inspected the bars and stared at the cylinder across the room. She found herself laughing at first before letting out a small cry, the feelings of relief overwhelming her. Once calmed, she licked the blue bar," Blegh!... Taste awful...", she pouted and placed it on the floor with it being too bitter for her. Deciding to lick the purple one, she found herself in love with the taste. The sweet yet sour taste fumed up her child like taste buds. About to suck and swallow the bar whole, she stopped with a dilemma at hand. She is very hungry, but if she were to eat the purple one, she would be left with the bitter blue bar, on the other hand if she blue bar tasted too bitter for her but she would be left with the purple one which she could eat at her own leisure. After a few minutes of pondering, she decided on the latter. After having swallowed the blue bar quickly, like a child forced to eat some chopped up boiled broccoli, she could now take her time to nibble at the purple bar grinning ear to ear.

Intermittent Report:
Error: Specimen 12 is overwhelmed by electric prompting. Dosage lowered to accommodate size.
Error: Specimen 41 has appendage enclosed in test release cylinder. Correction initiated.

[I'm waiting just a bit till I put up Test #3. In the meantime, this is what's going on in "Central Command" or wherever the scientists actually keep themselves holed up. The characters cannot hear these announcements, but their effects might present themselves in the characters' world, especially after Saturday got her proverbial wrench caught in the works. :) I did say "go the extreme"; well done.]

Gabz.: Suddenly, you hear a faint hiss, as if from inside the pedestal. In a circle surrounding your hand, the tiniest bit of vapor rises from the material’s surface. You find that you can now pull your hand free from the pedestal. To your (fill-in-the-blank reaction), however, a portion of the cylinder is still stuck to your hand, keeping it in the same position. At least now you can move around, though. The pedestal, on the other hand (as it were), remains otherwise motionless, now with a cylindrical hole in its top. The red bar is still visible within, but it will certainly not come out in one piece.

Saturday pulled a few more times, she sat there for a bout half an hour jut tugging at her hand. she sighed and tried again, this time to fall back because her hand came out of the thing, and it wasnt just her hand, a peice of the cylinder had come with it. "and I win!" she yelled out to the air. she shook her hand, now heavy from the . . . .whatever it was. she examined it, looking around it, and after a while tried to get her hand out of the piece of pedestal. she hit it against the wall, and spit on her fingers to get it loose, no dice. she tried and tried for as long as she could, she was drained in the end, because she had tried enough tests and none worked, she would never stop though, as long as it was stuck on her hand in the end she just sat next to the wall and hit her hand against it, until her fingers were getting sore, red and raw. she never stopped though, always just sitting, and hitting. eventually she fell asleep.
