In The Hall of the Valkyries -- OOC. ( )

Postby LALAshesang on Mon Sep 22, 2008 6:39 pm

For centuries upon centuries, the Valkyries have been there, deciding the outcome of battles and wars, and the worthy few who have died in battle to Valhalla, the hall of the slain, where they fight each other all day. They fight until they have been torn to pieces, and at the end of each day, they are magically healed and sent back to the hall to feast, drink, and be merry, until the next day, where they would start all over again.

Over the many, many years, the warriors and the wars have changed. The Valkyries have basically remained the same. Now they collect more than just your every day soldiers from the world's armies, though. Anyone who is deemed brave enough to go to Valhalla will be taken when they die. These people could be policemen, firefighters ... anyone brave enough.

For Ragnarok draws near, and Odin needs more warriors to stand at his side in the epic battle, in which the fate of the world will be decided. No one knows when this will happen. It could be another thousand years from now, but Odin is nothing if not prepared, so more pressure than ever is placed on Freyja and her seven choosers of the slain. These women have been alive for thousands of years, and will remain immortal and invulnerable for many years to come, as long as they continue to do their jobs as well as they have been doing them, and remain virginal, of course.

And so, the Valkyries not only scour the battlefields of the world, looking for worthy soldiers, they walk amongst the everyday living, looking for that rare diamond in the rough. They look like your normal, every day women, and why shouldn't they? They've been practically frozen in time, forever doing this sacred duty. Then, at the end of the day, they return to Valhalla, don their white robes, and serve the warriors.

The Valkyries
-Female characters only
-I would say no god modding, but the nature of Valkyries is to be immortal and invulnerable to any sort of attack. They can't be killed or even wounded. If they do get wounded, it heals instantly. And what's more, the warriors get ripped to shreds and probably killed every day, but at the end of the day, they're magically healed and they go party.
-The prettier the better :)
-Freyja is the chief of the Valkyries (she will be played by me.) There will be seven other Valkyries. These will be their names. (I've also included the meanings of the names, just in case that influences decisions.)
Brynhildr Mail-Coat of Battle
Gunnr Battle
Goll Battle Cry
Friagabi Giver of Freedom
Hrist The Shaker
Reginleif Heritage of the Gods
Rota She Who Causes Turmoil
All of the Valkyries are equal, and the order of their names has nothing to do with any sort of chain of command.
-First come first serve on the names, you can also pick what your Valkyrie looks like, seeing as there isn't really much on that subject to be found. All the historic sources say they're all blonde-haired and blue-eyed, though. I understand if that's not what you're into, but please, nothing too ridiculous (like ... no technicolor hair and such? Thanks)
-Romance is allowed, but keep it PG in the thread. And remember, if your Valkyrie doesn't remain virginal, she doesn't get to be immortal. In fact, she will be killed. Odin's very particular that way.
-Odin is the God whom the Valkyries serve. They do his bidding and such. We'll need an Odin, if no one wants to play him, I will.
-The character skeleton for the Valkyries is pretty simple.
NameChoose from list above
AppearanceThis can be a picture of a verbal description, it doesn't really matter. Just remember, nothing ridiculous. These are Valkyries, they're Norse and they've looked the same way for thousands of years.
PersonalityThe Valkyries, of course, are all very business-like and task oriented, but everyone has little habits and idiosyncrasies while they work. You can put those here, though this is completely optional.

Here's mine
NameFreyja, (Fry-uh) or Valfreyja (Mistress of the Slain) as the Einherjar refer to her.
Image
PersonalityBeing that she is the chief of the Valkyries, she is sure to make sure that everyone is always on task. She runs a very tight ship and doesn't allow slip-ups, not that they happen very often, anyway. She is the one to whom Odin gives the orders, and she gives them to the rest of the Valkyries to carry out. She makes sure that everyone has a job to do and that they do it correctly.

The Einherjar(Warriors)
-Male characters only
-There can be as many of these as we want. There's no limit, and of course, there will be room for plenty more warriors to join as the roleplay goes on because new warriors come to Valhalla often.
-I know, I'm repeating myself, I just wanna make sure everyone knows that these guys can be killed, but then they come back to life at the end of the day to go party with all the others.
-There can be one or two who have already been at Valhalla, but I would like for most of the warriors to be alive at the beginning of the RP for the Valkyries to bring.
-Remember, these guys need to be really brave in order to be considered worthy enough to live forever in Valhalla.
-The character skeleton for these guys is slightly more involved than the one for the Valkyries
Name
Age
OccupationI'm kinda lax about this. You don't have to be a legit soldier, but the occupation has to have to involve being brave and putting your life on the line. Fireman, policeman, etc.
Appearance
PersonalityThis is where you put your basic personality stuff, but also: What makes this warrior so brave? Why should he be in Valhalla? Be sure to address these questions here. Is your character going to be new to Valhalla, or has he been there for a while?

I think this could be loads of fun. Hope lots of you join!
We'd be so less fragile
If we're made from metal
And our hearts from iron
And our minds from steel.
But if we built an armor
For our tender bodies
Could we love each other?
Would we start to feel?

Knock: In

Animchicita: It doesn't really matter :), though I would prefer to see a glimpse of your personality, just so I can make sure I like you better than anyone else who might apply. For instance, you're in for now, but if someone submits a better character than yours and there are no other spaces, I MIGHT just give yours up. (Or I might make more spaces ... it depends on how many extra are applying.)

Is this ok?

Name: David Benson

Age: 28

Occupation: A former New York City police officer

Appearance: Image
History/Personality: Dylan has lived in Valhalla now for a little over seven years, since he was killed in the line of duty, seven years ago. On September 11, 2001, David was on his normal patrol, when the Twin Towers were hit by the airplanes. He was trying to drag unconscious victims out of the blaze, when the South Tower collapsed, and his fellow police officers saw the last of him. The job of a police officer made him very serious before he died, and he was always worried about his parents, before he was killed.

Name: Gunnr

Appearance:Like a typical Valkyrie, Gunnr has long, blond hair that is typically held in a knot on the back of her head. Her eyes, however, differ slightly, in that they look almost green compared to the normal blue. She has a slight build, and stands at a mere five foot six.

Personality: As her position as a Valkyrie demands, Gunnr is very dedicated to her work and diligent. She does not like to leave affairs unfinished, and it doesn't matter how long it takes for her to complete her task. She is very quiet and comes across as almost antisocial. She is also very devoted to Odin, and doesn't take it lightly when/if someone makes a joke or remark at his expense. She has a quick temper, but is usually adept at hiding her anger and just leaving the situation.

When she is not on 'active duty,' which isn't often as it is, she likes to wander around Valhalla and ponder the Ragnarok or the destiny of man, the gods, and herself.

Name: Sergeant First Class Erik "Iceman" Westmoreland
Age: 32
Occupation: US Army Special Forces
Appearance: Erik is tall (6"2), lean(185), and blond-haired. From months in the desert, he has a full beard and a dark tan. See the pic below.
Image
Personality: Erik is a sarcastic guy, with a manner that is usually cold as ice. Rarely does he allow his emotions to surface. After spending ten years in the U.S. Army, he was killed in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, after his team of Afghani soldiers were ambushed by insurgents. He led his men into the only available cover and, seeing some of his men were wounded and left in the open, dragged them to safety, being wounded in the arm and neck while doing so. When an enemy mortar began lobbing shells into their position, he flanked the mortars, eliminated the crews with aimed fire from his M4 carbine, and then while returning to his position was mortally wounded in the lungs and stomach by an enemy machinegun crew. While bleeding badly, he operated the M203 grenade launcher on his carbine and lobbed shells into enemy positions until helicopter support arrived. He died before he could be airlifted out. His posthumous Medal of Honor citation stated that he killed upwards of 20 insurgents single-handedly.

Awesome! We have a Gunnr.

And Iceman is in.

We need a few more Valkyries before we can begin, though!

Name: Hrist
Appearance: Image
Personality: Hrist always stands tall, her shoulders squared and jaw set. She walks with a purpose and if anyone tries to do anything that could result in harming her or one of the other Valkyrie, she will not think twice about either killing them, or bringing them close to begging for death. Although on duty, Hrist will get her tasks finished one way or another. She likes things to be done in order well done. She can be reasonable though and is not quick to anger. Though she is VERY blunt. Painfully so actually...

Wonderful! Slowly but surely we're picking up more characters. If one more Valkyrie hops in I'll start the IC. And of course, more warriors would be appreciated also.
