The Rogue Guild (OOC) ( )

Postby Village Alchemist on Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:59 pm

Shaydton has been around since the dawn of written history, and is one of the largest cities in this kingdom. It is built around the Farsend River, which connects the Southern Regions with the rest of the world by passing through an otherwise inpassable desert. This makes Shaydton one of the most important trading centers in the world, and the wealth flows in dayly.

Most of that wealth ends up in the coffers of Duke Felswallow, and most of the rest to half a dozen noble housholds. Most of the city is slums where people live to work, and work only to pay off the duke's extortionate taxes. Some merchants and clever entrepreneurs manage to run succesful businesses, but they pay well over half their income to the duchy in the form of trade permits and sales taxes.

Naturally, such a city will be home to crime. However most of it is a sort of neat, orderly crime. This is because it is nearly all governed by one organization: the Rogues' Guild.

The Rogues' Guild is an alliance of thieves, smugglers, and other outlaws. It exists to aid and protect those who want to live their lives for themselves instead of for lazy nobility. The Guild has secret bases throughout Shaydton and in neighboring cities, always disguised as some more legal place of business--taverns, shops, warehouses, and the like. They operate on donation; all members are expected but not required to donate a portion of all their profits to the Guild Administrators. The Administrators are in league with many of the kingdom's court judges, and can use bribery to help out members if they are caught and put on trial.

This RP is about a group of Rogues in Shaydton.
-----------------------------------------------------------
RULES:
-You are not a superwarrior! If you have to fight one person, you may lose. If you have to fight two people, you will probably loose. If you have to fight a dozen people, you will almost certainly loose immediately. Choose your battles.

-Just because this is a fantasy world does not mean that every one of you has to play as a magical half-vampire half-werewolf ninjutsu-wielding angelic shinigami dragon princess. Magic is around but rare, remarkable, and-well-magical! Shaydton is populated mostly by normal humans. There are Freaks, but no more than one Freak to every three Normals.

-Village Alchemist is the GM. As of now, GM stands for God-Man. Understood?

-Don't post any out-of-character comments in the IC thread. That's what the OOC thread is for.

-Technology-wise, if it wasn't invented by the 1600's, it does not exist. This is a very, very loose rule, though.

You may click here for a map of Shaydton. The symbols that looks like upside-down 'Y's represent Rogues' Guild bases.

"Why can't it act in an orderly and lawful manner?" "Because it's a Big Stupid Jellyfish."

I've put up a character skeleton now. When I first posted this, I had to run off for some real-life business, so I forgot it.

Name: Felicity Enix a.k.a. Fenix
Gender: female
Age: 25
Occupation: Something of a popular fighter, and as well she serves as a body guard and pickpockets... or mugs, as a better term.
Skills: Fenix is an avid fist fighter, and has a body set for it. She has a quick mind, and feels little pain. When underestimated, she can quickly bring the pain.
Appearance: Image
Fenix stands a fiesty 5'7, with a body built for battle. She has beautiful curves, being a woman, but has taught muscles toned more than the average dame. Her skin tone is tan and her hair a light blond. With eyes of sharp green, and lips set to a dangerous smile, she has a sculpted face.
Bio': Fenix spent her childhood rough-housing... or perhaps... being rough-housed. She was teased by the richer families because her own could barely afford food to put on the table. She was a scrawny child with crushed hopes, but a fiery spirit to relight in later times. And the only one who made her feel better, was her father- an outlaw street fighter.
Becoming a teenager, she finally engaged in a fight. And though she was frail looking at the time, she learned that her mind was a sponge- and she knew fighting was her newest strong point. From that day on, Fenix trained everyday alongside her father, learning more and more of life in the rough.
As time passed still, she began to learn how to make a living taking bets in fights. And her father retired... But upon a wretched night, the loser of one of her recent fights- a dark haired man- had murdered her parents.
Thus, she sought the rich pretty boy who put her parents to the grave, and in her search, she found a group of people who might be able to help her for an equivalent trade:
The Rogue Guild.
One who knows nothing, can understand nothing.

Name:Ziro Dayle
Gender:Male
Age:56
Occupation:Smuggler/Thief
Skills:Annoying rants about younger days, still strong despite age.
Appearance:Six foot one, blue eyed, with short graying blond hair. A rugged full beard and a a missing left eye, left uncovered. Muscular from years of physical conditioning, but age has weathered some of his physique away. Wears a shattered breastplate over a cotton shirt, but beneath a heavy leather vest. His right hand is within a gauntlet hiding a missing middle finger, and his left within a simple leather glove. Wears leather trousers and boots. Overall he wields an aged look, but not an old one.
Bio':Ziro as a young child, was always fascinated by the smugglers and thieves of Shaydton, and when he was eight, he ran away from home to try and get into the Rogue Guild. He was eavesdropping for days on a local smuggling ring, and managed to sneak inside one of the smuggled shipments that took him straight to the heart of the Rogue Guild. When he was discovered, the smugglers first thought to kill him, but then fearing what would happen if their superiors found out that a child discovered them, decided on a different course of action, and they took him in, letting him help them. From that day on, Ziro was a pick pocket, smuggler, thief, you name it, he did whatever he was told to do, but tried his best to stay at a low level of authority. He didn't like having to manage people, he just liked doing his job. Over the years he amassed quite a collection of stories of the follies his fellow smugglers encountered.

Re: The Rogue Guild (OOC) ( )

Postby MEGAcya on Mon Dec 01, 2008 2:42 pm

Name: Avarei Roth (pronounced ay-vah-RAY)
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Occupation: Avarei has worked as barmaid at The Green Dragon since she was 12.
Skills: Avarei is often seen by others as being somewhat useless. She is very limited in her physical abilities, being unpractised in fighting and unmotivated to cook or clean. However, she is something of a quick thinker and her stories, or rather, her lies, are often very convincing and well thought-out. Also, Avarei has within her a latent ability to conjure images within a person's mind. With the proper encouragement, training and guidance, she could probably be a decent fighter and her power could become something of an asset to the Guild.
Appearance: Avarei has thick, dark hair which is often worn either in a bun at the back of her head or one long braid. Her hair is a rich, deep mahogany colour, which has a very glossy red tint in sunlight, and falls to the small of her back when let loose. Her heavily-lidded eyes are a very dark shade of grey that contrasts greatly with her ivory skin, and are framed by thick, dark lashes. Her physique is slender, but devoid of any kind of muscle or strength, and her narrow waist tapers out to her hips in a gentle curve that suggests the presence of some, but not much, fat. Avarei can usually be seen wearing some sort of simplistic cotton gown, often with an battered black corset over the top of it, and she does not wear shoes.
Bio': Ever since she could speak coherently, Avarei has had a powerful knack for storytelling, and thanks to a trace of magic in her bloodline, she is able to channel the imagery of her stores (and lies) into apparitions in the minds of others. This ability is still somewhat dormant, and most people mistake it for simply their own imaginations being inspired by her descriptive prowess. Avarei was born to a fairly poor family in the city's slums, but she was able to find work in a middle-class tavern at the age of twelve, where she was told old stories and legends by customers, which fed her already active imagination. One story that she heard came from an old man who insisted that the tavern was being secretly run by a huge organisation of Rouges, which sparked her curiosity much more than any other, and she has spent the past few months trying to find out more.

Re: The Rogue Guild (OOC) ( )

Postby Irish Wolf on Mon Dec 01, 2008 2:47 pm

Name: Hariel Ch'tiel
Gender: male
Age: 30
Occupation: Tavern Owner/smuggler
Skills: serving different types of booze, making plans for smuggling runs, a good shot with a wheellock pistol, telling his "bouncer" to toss people out in the street, hiding thieves.
Appearance: A man of average muscle build, Hariel stands at a good five foot nine inches tall, with long black hair tied back into a pony tail and a short but well groomed beard. When working inside his tavern, he normally wears a pair of brown trousers with a green shirt (sleeves rolled up) and an almost white apron. Scuffed up leather boots cover his feet at almost all times, inside his tavern and outside.
Bio': As a young boy and through his teen years, Hariel was almost aways around those that stayed outside the law. His father, Laenatar Ch'tiel, ran the Green Dragon and it was one of the many places that thieves and other lowlifes gathered to plan their crimes in the backrooms and get the food and strong drink they needed.
When he wasn't out getting "special" orders for his father or having a little free time, young Hariel was working in the kitchen or cleaning glasses at the bar. On more then a few of those "special" pickups, he was forced to fight to make an escape and learn quickly that a wheellock was a good friend to have or maybe two. He also learned out to pickpocket with a low degree of skill and mostly used it on drunks.
Laenatar retired to the country five years ago, to make the Green Dragon's own brew called Fire Ale, a mouth burning ale made with a blend of spices and leaving his only son the tavern.

Re: The Rogue Guild (OOC) ( )

Postby Selothi on Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:48 pm

Woohoo, rogues ! Lemme in, lemme in ! lol

Name: Keleth Tarn (remind ya' of anything, VA ?)

Gender: Male, yessiree !

Age: "23 years under my belt, sirrah."

Occupation: "A poor leper I am ..." And even poorer I'd be if it weren't for all those plundered pockets and purses ...

Skills: "One never wishes to boast, but I know my trade well. All you have to do is get some foul, rancid ointments, spread them on your right arm, and walk about with a stick begging for some cash. And of course, let the other hand pilfer at its heart's content. Oh, and finally, getting caught isn't that much of a problem: whack you around the head, I will, the run away into one o' them back alleys, and you'll ne'er see me again ..."

Appearance: A ragged, very ragged, cloak of stained and dirtied grey linen, hiding a sharp and harsh face, falls down small shoulders, finishing in tattered and ripped ends at about mid-thigh. Keleth's face seems cut with a knife: jagged, thin, even gaunt, almost like a veil of thick and coarse linen draped over a skull. Already-greying stubble covers the man's chin and upper lip, meeting similarly pale hair, matted, greasy and unkempt, that is left loose to gallivant to the wind's little whisper, and cover his aquiline features. Eyes of a faded brown, rammed deep within the beggar's skull, peer out of those lifeless orbits with a blank expression. The more religious would say his soul has gone missing, judging from the empty look he carries.

Tarn wears a leather cuirass, banded horizontally and covering his chest, stomach and ending a bit onto his thighs. The battered and nicked leather of a rusty-brown holds a few pockets, a hidden dagger sheathed into it in the right curve of the man's back, with a thick linen "shirt" of grey over it, always open as it has no buttons, and dotted with pockets as well as stains. This cuirass is worn over a faded blue shirt, long bandage-like sleeves covering all of his left arm, but tattered and torn on the right, so as to expose his "bloated" arm. Yes, Keleth applies an almost daily balm to make the skin of his right arm seems festered and swollen, with boils and all. Of course, he'll tell you you can't go saying you're a leper if you don't have the proof, but it tends to scare away people rather than open their hearts and purses. This right hand is also covered in dirty white bandages, loose and flailing about in the wind like washing on a line, and some parts are dyed red as to represent blood.

For trousers, the leper wears wide pale brown pants, tied at the shins with rudimentary strips of fabric and covered in leather boots. Of course, nicked, torn and dirtied like the rest of his attire. All in all, covered in grime as he is, Keleth plays well the part of the man who lives on the street, making it his home, making it his only way of survival, but thanks to deft fingers and clever dupe, he can actually make a mildly decent living by robbing the rich and those who are generous enough to pity his "ailment", and resorting to beating up the poor in the back alleys. No quarter is his way of life. People won't give him any, why should he, it's a dog eat dog world basically.

Bio':The usual really, it seems all crooks have the same roots. Born into a middle-class family with a father running an inn and a mother working as scribe at one of the lord's houses, which is where he learnt to write (somewhat), things seemed good. While too poor to go to school, the boy waited tables and helped his father, however his mother was fired quickly after an affair with the lord. More likely the pig tried to rape her and when she fled, had to sack her to avoid losing his reputation. His father however, the hot-headed male he was, believed the story and kicked his mother out of the house. Naturally, the sot hadn't realised the inn wasn't a very steady source of income.

Soon enough, while Keleth was aged eight, dad just couldn't keep it up. Working day in and day out, with next to no customers, he had to resort to making his inn a safehouse for thieves and robbers, and when the Rogues' Guild came to know of it, they basically initiated him within the "family". Keleth therefore lived his more important years surrounded by the miscreants of Shaydton, and ended up joining them as soon as possible. After trying robber, thug, and a few others, he settled for beggar, and with a cunning disguise provided by an alchemist of the Guild, plied his trade for many years, not just sticking to the streets, but also doing the occasional bit of thuggery and intimidation.

It has been over a dozen years that Keleth has been a part of the Guild, and while not an outstanding individual, he's still got some say in the parts of the Guild he frequents. Still, all in all, he's fine with his life, and doing fairly well, for a beggar !

***EDIT:*** Weapons: Keleth always keeps a staff in hand, resembling a simple walking stick it's tough enough to be used as a quarterstaff and he can wield it pretty well. He also keeps a slightly curved, one-sided dagger strapped to the left of a flimsy belt around his waist holding its sheath, a small waterskin and a small purse. He used this quite well for sudden attacks, but otherwise hasn't a hope in hell of fighting anyone off with it, contrary to his staff. He can also use a bow quite well, but doesn't carry one with him, and doesn't use them often, so he's rather rusty.

Re: The Rogue Guild (OOC) ( )

Postby Cohort Of Time on Mon Dec 01, 2008 7:53 pm

Name: JonJon the Candle Boy
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Occupation: Thief and riddler
Skills: Need a lock picked? He's the man. He can also steal things pretty well. He relies on his wit and trickery in most of his plots.
Appearance: JonJon is not handsome in any respect. He's not absolutely repulsive, but he's nothing special. His hair is light brown and so too are his eyes. He has two scars. One that runs over his right eye(somehow he retained his eyesight) and another that runs the length of his back. Sometimes the scars hinder his abilities, but he's gone to great lengths to get over these short-comings. He recieved the first scar when he tried to snag a nobles purse. Apparentley the noble had a secret invisible mage to help her out. The second occured when he tried to kill the mage. Fortunately the mage started hacking up blood (the plague had been going around at the time) and JonJon was able to escape.
Bio':JonJon was ironically born to a high-class noble. But with a name like JonJon, you don't get that far in life. As a boy, JonJon was constantly made fun of for his name by all the other rich kids. He endured this until he was 9, when he finally made his stand and challenged one of the boys to a fight. JonJon won the fight, but he did not celebrate for long. His father, who had a real name, Frederick, soon found out that his son beat up a very important noble's child and Frederick was very offended. So offended, in fact, that he banished JonJon from the noble life at only the age of 9. JonJon replied to this by saying. "Well dad, it's all your fault. If ou gave me a real name, nothing would have gone wrong!" And then JonJon ran out and joined the lower class, as he was only 9 and could hardly find work. A thief named Walter Besto found JonJon and taught him everything he knew, and even introduced him to the guild. JonJon still got made fun of, but that was only default when you have a name like JonJon. Since he was picked on so much, JonJon learned to be witt and beat people with words rather than force. For he was not a strong man. He got his nickname, "JonJon the Candle Boy" because everytime he steals something, he leaves a candle burning in the room. That's his trademark. He always carries candles with him, and it is said that those who earn his respect are handed a lit candle. JonJon the Candle Boy was certainly strange.
