Gavin nodded with each of the instructions as though they were all completely new but graspable ideas to her. If anyone were safe to reveal her night-time identity to, it would have been the Batman...and yet it seemed foolish to attempt to do so in the presence of a cheap crook and some bookstore clerk. So she made pretend as if the thought of swinging along the rooftops of Gotham was a new activity, managing to hide a smile as she felt the thin, sturdy cord's cold wiring press into her poorly gloved hand. She decided that it was too risky to swing along while wearing her hat, sure that she would lose it in the motion-caused breeze, so she unwedged it from her scalp and quickly rolled it up, stuffing it into one of the larger pockets sewn onto the inside of her coat. She realized that her short dark hair must have looked far less than feminine and nothing resembling appealing after being crammed under the hat all day, but neither of those things had ever been high on her priority list. Besides, did Batman run around during the day like some preened peacock? She doubted it.
