The Tenants (IC) ( )

Postby Skeith on Sun Nov 30, 2008 2:24 am

Ciel woke slowly, lazily opening her eyes to a dreary hotel ceiling. Or she should have been. The mildew ranch that hung over her earlier had been removed. She didn't take any real note of it and pulled herself into a sitting position. It was then she saw her surroundings. The paintings, the furniture, and the eerie life that filled the room. Nervous as to what must have transpired that night, Ciel slipped from the bed and toward the wooden door. She gripped the knob and turned slowly, pushing the door out as she did. There were others in the adjourning hall as well, she could only recognize the receptionist, who was looking more so frightened than her. That's when the lights flickered, and a scream rung out. It was the receptionist. When the lights returned, Ciel turned sharply to the scream, the receptionist was gone, nothing. Sweat began to bead on her forehead as her eyes darted to and fro. This was not what she was expecting when she left home. Taking a step back, she clutched the side of her door, keeping it ajar.

“What the hell happened?” Her breathing hastened. “Where'd she go?” She pointed to where the receptionist last stood. Ciel could guess that no one was in any position to tell her an answer. She looked at the remaining people, wondering who'd be next to vanish in the blink of an eye.

Dadrian awoke from his sleep, sitting up and sliding his fingers through his black and silver streaked hair. He yawned, and opened his eyes. Gazing around the room, he gasped. Dadrian did not recognize these surroundings. He was a bit shocked, "The hell?" He stood from his sitting position, and opened the door, stepping into the Hallway. He gazed over to the girl aside of him, and walked to her. His eyes flickered as he did so, "..Where the hell am I? This isn't the hotel. Or ..is it?" He sighed and looked to her, awaiting a reply. However, he could see she was frightened. He sighed and turned around.

"What's happened?" He spoke aloud, "This isn't the damned hotel I was in from earlier..." He looked back to the girl, waiting to see if she did have anything to say.

"FUCK!" Artery shot up. She groaned, and rubbed her head. Sitting on the side of the bed, she felt like puking. Suddenly, she noticed....she wasn't in her house. A hotel of some sort. She looked to her right. It read 1:30 p.m. Damn, I've been asleep for that long? She asked herself. She looked down, she was still dressed in her clothing from the night before. She noticed the door right across from her. Getting up, she walked to the door slowly. Gripping the knob, she turned it - slowly. Opening it, she took one small step outside the room. The hallway was quiet. Odd for a hotel, she thought. She took a step outside the room, she began to walk through the hallway. She noticed a door. It had golden lining on it. Gripping the door knob, it was locked. "Damn," she cursed. She heard a voice. She could feel her whole body begin to shake. Her nerves seemed to electrify. Looking back behind her, she saw a maid. A friendly woman of old age, smiled to her. She decided to smile weakly back.

The maid entered a door, probably ready for cleaning. Maybe she would know how I ended up here, Artery thought. Speed walking to the door of which the maid entered, she turned inside. What she saw horrified her. ....Nothing was there, but the basket of clothes the maid had carried when she saw her. W-Where did she g-go? Artery began to sweat as her mind wondered of where the maid went. She decided she couldn't stay no longer. Running back to her room, she slammed the door behind her. "Where the fuck did she go?!" Artery snapped.

“..Where the hell am I? This isn't the hotel. Or ..is it?”

Ciel turned quickly to meet the eyes of the older man, she tried to hide her fear, but she had always been weak in that regard.

“What's happened?” He spoke aloud, “This isn't the damned hotel I was in from earlier...”

“I... I... I don't know... I just... I don't...”

Her eyes began to redden with fear and an overwhelming feeling of dread. Why was anyone asking her for information? It was likely that she was more afraid than anyone else here. Choking on a frightened sob, she spoke again, “I'm scared.” She slumped against the door, rubbing the forming tears from her eyes. She didn't know if he heard her, as when she spoke, her voice was drowned out by the slamming of a door and a question mixed with a swear. Ciel looked in the direction but didn't move. Something happened. Something bad. She knew it. That's when people swore like that. At least her family was like that. Was, she didn't know how they were now.

Dadrian looked over to the girl, stepping to her, "..Who're you?" His eyes glared to hers, which were covered in tears. He coveted her tears for a moment, and stepped even closer, "Are you ..okay?" His eyes shot in all directions as he stood to her. He wanted to know what was going on, but he couldn't bare to see someone this scared. Her fear answered his question, she didn't know either. He coughed, covering his mouth, and staring back at the other girl.

"Great," he said, "Wonderful. More lost people." He turned to Artery, "HEY! YOU!"

She turned her gaze to him. She seemed shock. Don't be a smartass, she thought to herself. She walked over to them. "Who are the both of you? Where are we? What that fuck is this place?!" Bending down towards them, she placed her hand on Ciel's shoulder. "Tell me what's going on." She looked to Dadrian. Her gaze seemed full of concern. "Tell me! Somebody!"

Dadrian backed away, "Hell if I know! If we both know!" He hushed for a moment, listening to the sounds of breathing erupt from them. He sighed, "Alright, where were you two before you woke up here?"

Artery looked to Dadrian. "..I sort of drugged myself up, and I guess I ended up here. Where were YOU?" She eyed Dadrian so hard, it felt like burns were coming through his head.

Ciel felt better when the man began to comfort her, but when the woman came the dread washed over her again. The woman was scared, and angry, like Ciel was at that moment. Gritting her teeth she stopped crying and glared up. She tried to find the fire that filled her thoughts so often, but it was dowsed in fear at the moment, and her glare melted away.

“My name is... Ciel...” She spoke just above a whisper, but the man drowned her out.

“Hell if I know! If we both know!” He hushed for a moment, listening to the sounds of breathing erupt from them. He sighed, “Alright, where were you two before you woke up here?”

“I was in... a hotel... I can't remember which... and when I went to sleep, I was... why did she disappear? Why aren't we disappearing now?”

She knew she wasn't speaking loud enough for them to hear, so she stopped for a moment to calm herself down. After a deep breath she stood up straight, but feeling the fire between the druggy and the man, Ciel decided to stay quiet and revel in their anger. It soothed her so.

Dadian eyed the woman, "What the fuck is your problem, eh? I just asked. I came here to a Hotel to get away because I can't afford a damned apartment anymore." He turned his gaze to Ciel, and spoke, "My name is Daiden, I'm a the Journalist for the Death Loves Company article." He turned to the other woman, "What's YOUR name?" He mimicked her phrase of reactions in the way she had talked to him before.

Taking a bottle of painkillers from her pocket, she threw them down the hall. Those didn't help her when depression hit, they wouldn't help her now. A headache struck her. Scared, she wasn't. Confused, she was. She turned to Dadrian. "I think she's starting to calm down." Walking over to the girl, she asked, "Ciel, who disappeared?" ANOTHER person had disappeared? First the maid, and then...someone else?

"No, it was before you screamed. It was the receptionist at the hotel. She looked scared, and she screamed... and then she was gone. The moment I couldn't see her she was gone." Ciel looked at Daiden and at the woman who seemed content on not speaking her name. "Did you see the maid vanish? Or did it happen without you seeing? Cause if we only will vanish when no one sees us, I think we should stick together..."

Artery spoke, "The maid disppeared whenever she entered the door...just down there." Artery pointed to three dors down. Sticking together sounded nice, but what would become of them? Could they leave the hotel? ...Would it be easy? She helped Ciel up. "By the way, my name is Artery."

Daiden looked to Ciel and Artery, "The hell are we gonna do?" His eyes shifted from one point to another, "Together? what's gonna happen to us? Where are we gonna go?" He gasped at the thought of being lost. Turning around, Daiden began to walk towards a door. "Anyone know where this thing leads?" He looked to Artery.

She shook her head. "I've only been in my room, and the room of where the maid disappeared." She walked to Daiden. A soft gaze looked upon her. "...Want to lead the way?"

Ciel shrugged, "Sorry... I don't know where anywhere leads... but there is a lot of rooms here... I hope we don't get lost. Then again, if we don't know where we are, I guess we're already lost..." Ciel thought for a moment, "Do either of you have something you could write with? So we could mark rooms we've been in or something?"

Artery checked herself. "I'm clean of everything. I'm sorry." She looked to Daiden. "..Do you, Daiden?" She began to take different steps out of the direction they were in. "Come on," she told them, "I'll lead the way. If anyone should vanish, I'd rather it'd be me."
