If you want, you can make it so they - Ben and Damion - meet in elementary school; or at the coffee shop Ben worked at in high school; or at the place he was (and is?) in training to be a vet. (Maybe Damion found a sick cat and met Ben, who was an assistant, that way.) I don't know how long vet school takes... can anyone help me on that?

Vet school takes 4 years...That is after the required 4 years of undergraduate college work...Oh, and if he's going to be getting a PhD in anything add another 3-4 years. I am very, very aware of the subject. (i'm doing the DVM/PhD program starting in the fall.)
